Dr. Terry Stevens just lost his job because he was working on one of his own experiments on company time and was told to focus on what he was getting paid for but Dr. Stevens far fetch dream was more important to him being at home in his own laboratory working on his own experiment than his boring job teaching physics at a university. It was no surprise to him that his days at the university were numbered so when the dean of the university called him in the office the next day and was handed the news his response was oh well. Dr. Stevens gathered his belongings from his desk and headed back home to tell his wife the news and she wasn’t about to welcome him with open arms about the news of losing his job.

When Dr. Stevens arrived home earlier than usual and his wife heard his car pull into the driveway she knew something was wrong because Dr. Stevens never came home early ever. Dr. Stevens grabbed his briefcase from the passenger’s front seat and got out of his car and already knew it wasn’t going to be a pretty sight when he opened the door and broke the news to her about losing his job. Right when he opened the front door to his house there stood just a foot away from him was his wife with both hands on her hips pointing her finger at him and said “Let me guess you lost your job!” in a stern voice. “Well honey it’s like this…. Dr. Stevens couldn’t finish his sentence because his wife lay in on him like a ton of bricks and her mouth ripped him apart as he took his brief case downstairs to his laboratory slamming the door behind him. Mrs. Stevens was banging on the basement door yelling for him to come upstairs and talk about why he got fired. Dr. Stevens yelled back telling her to leave him alone so he could finish his experiment.

About an hour later Dr. Stevens felt he should test out his experiment on someone and didn’t know who he should get as a test subject then as he pondered on the question he started hearing that loud banging and yelling on the basement door and that’s when it hit him like a ton of bricks “My nagging wife would be a good test subject because we don’t get along and if my time machine experiment works she won’t be missed if I can’t bring her back.” Then Dr. Stevens called out to his wife and said “Oh honey, I’m sorry, I’ll unlock the door, and you can come down here, and we can talk this out, and I’ll tell you what happened.” Dr. Stevens unlocked the door and his wife followed him downstairs to his laboratory and Dr. Stevens sat her in his time machine chair unbeknownst to her that it was a setup and she was his test subject.

As the two were talking things over Dr. Stevens carefully strapped in his wife in the time machine chair and said “How would you like to go back in time just for a quick visit and when you can come back, you can tell me all about it?” Mrs. Stevens replied “Are you nuts no one can travel back in time!” “We won’t know unless we give it a try,” said Dr. Stevens as he smiled. “All I ask, is you give me just a minute or two of your time and if it don’t work you can go and tell your friends about how crazy of a husband you are married too.” Mrs. Stevens agreed and Dr. Stevens turned the knob on the control panel and within seconds she was gone and Dr. Stevens jumped for joy saying “I got rid of that battle ax once and for all and even if I could bring her back I wouldn’t in a million years.”

Dr. Stevens wasn’t about to stop with just sending one person back in time. His ego shot through the roof and he had plans on sending anybody that rubbed him the wrong way on a one way ticket back in time but too many people came up missing in his neighborhood and Dr. Stevens was the last person that they were seen with so one day a curious neighbor sneaked inside his home after midnight while the doctor was asleep and stumbled upon items from his neighbors and reported back to the remaining neighbors and formed a mob and paid the doctor a visit that night ready to burn his house to the ground not knowing how their neighbors disappeared and may have been able to save them if they could figure out how the time machine chair worked but they were too angry and all they wanted to do is kill the doctor.

The angry mob of neighbors gave Dr. Stevens a visit to his house. The angry neighbors were yelling for him to come to the door and when the doctor opened the front door he was doused with gasoline and set on fire. The angry mob of neighbors rushed inside the doctor’s home and poured gas everywhere and tossed a match and watched outside the doctor’s home as it burned to the ground along with Dr. Steven’s secret.

It’s a shame the doctor’s time machine chair couldn’t have been put to use in a controlled setting with a group of scientists that would make good use out of it and not use it for evil purposes but we’ll never know what could have been since the secret went up in flames along with its inventor.
