The Principle of being in Right Association with others

Introduction:

The concept and principle of Association is contained in scripture in The Bible. From us having an understanding of this principle and how it operates, we learn valuable life skills and also it can potentially answer certain questions as to why we experience certain degrees of hardship or even blessings at times.

As a believer we each need to understand that God created each of us for a specific purpose and we each have a destiny to fulfill. One of the benefits of being in right association with others is that it can bring a degree of greater blessing into our daily life as we each pursue and go after our God given destiny. Knowing this principle is important; however this should not be the main reason or motivator for us being in right association and right relationship with others. The main reason and right motivator for us being in right association and right relationship with others is love.

Jesus said if you love me, keep my commandments. Jesus also said that we are to love God with all our heart, all our soul and all our might and that we are to love our neighbor as our self.

I believe that as we each walk in Godly love and in the keeping of God’s word, it will bring about the blessing of being in right association and right relationship with others and then we would walk in the unhindered blessings of God in our life.

Association with others

What does it mean to be in association with others?

Association with others is who you are linked to and or joined to and can be with or without your intent. By your association with others, it can either bring greater success into your life or even some hardship.

It is important to understand that by your association with others, it can either work for you or against you.

In light of the above, consider Hebrew 10:32-33, “But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions; partly, whilst ye were made a gazing stock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.”

This concept of being in right association with others and being in wrong association with others is expounded on in the next few pages of this ebook.

The consequences of wrong association with others

Wrong association with others brings about problems and disrupts the ease of life. Let’s look at Jonah running away from God’s direction for his life. Jonah was one person in the boat running away from God’s instruction to him.

The people in the boat were in association with Jonah by Jonah being present in the boat with them. The boat was tossed to and fro because of Jonah being present in the boat. The people in the boat tried to off load their cargo to try and lighten the boat so that it would not sink. By them throwing their cargo overboard they lost what was theirs. The boat being rocked to and fro caused them to lose their peace and their ease of their life was disrupted together with their ease of their journey.

The blessing for ease of their life and ease of their journey was only restored when wrong association with Jonah was ended. This is seen when Jonah was thrown overboard and then the right order was restored and the boat no longer rocked to and fro and the panic of sinking was subsided.

Wrong association with others either with or without your intent can bring about loss of physical property, loss of peace of mind and may even bring ruin and destruction across your path way.

Ask yourself today, who are you in association with? Who have you allowed in your boat? Could it be because of wrong associations, you are experiencing problems in your everyday life. If so, quickly get rid of and end the wrong associations with others that you have in your life. When you do so, the blessing in your life will not be hindered and once again flow freely.

Always be led and directed by God and God’s peace as you are led to identify and get rid of wrong associations with others in your life.

The blessing of right association with others

Being in right association with others brings about increase, promotion and good success.

Let’s look at the association between Abraham and Lot. God told Abraham that He (God) would bless him (Genesis 12:2-3). We see the fulfillment of this promise that God made to bless Abraham in Genesis 13:2 when we read that Abraham was very rich in cattle, silver and gold.

Lot was in the right association with Abraham and as a result Lot got blessed and increased and had good success. In Genesis 13:5 (NLT), we read “Lot, who was traveling with Abram, had also become very wealthy with flocks of sheep and goats, herds of cattle, and many tents.” The blessing of God on Abraham’s life overflowed onto Lots life and caused him to also become wealthy and increase.

As a result of the blessing of God on Abraham it caused him to increase and Lot who was in right association with Abraham also increased so much so that the land could not support both Abraham and Lot and all of their possessions and hence Abraham and Lot had to then go their separate ways (Genesis 13:6).

In this example concerning Abraham and Lot, this principle of being in right association and the resultant blessing of being in right association, clearly comes out here and you can see that when you are in right association with others, it brings about a greater degree of the blessings of God in your life.

Today take a few minutes to think on the right associations that you have in your life. I would encourage you to nurture and protect theses right associations that you have in your life.

In Psalms 68:19, we read that God daily loads us with blessings. I would encourage you today to always be grateful and thankful to God for His blessings that He daily loads you with.

Walking in right association

How do we walk in right association with others? The best example for any Christian of how to walk in right association with others is to look at how Jesus handled this. Let’s look at it from two perspectives; first how Jesus associated with people and secondly the people who associated with Jesus and the impact it had on their lives.

How did Jesus associate with people He came in contact with?

In John 2:23-25, “Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did. But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, and needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.”

In John6:14—15, “Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, this is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world. When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.”

From these scriptures we see that Jesus knew what was in their hearts. Know this, Jesus was not side tracked by thoughts of fame and the call of the world. Jesus knew who He was and what His destiny and purpose was. Jesus did not go the path of being contrary to the perfect will of God the Father. Jesus kept His purpose and destiny in mind and in so doing Jesus kept the right association with people here and in so doing, Jesus went the God path of fulfilling His destiny and purpose. So too, we need to keep our purpose and destiny in mind and in so doing, we too will have the right association with people.

When Jesus spoke to the Scribes and Pharisees, Jesus spoke God’s Word to them and did not let them influence Him to their ways. Jesus did not seek their approval but Jesus had the approval of God. Jesus heart was in the right place and guarded correctly. In Proverbs we learn to guard our heart for out if spring the issues of life. By Jesus guarding His heart, it kept Jesus in the right association with them. So too, we need to guard our hearts and have our hearts in the right place as this will also enable us to be in the right association with others.

What about those who were in association with Jesus when He walked this earth?

When Jesus resurrected Jairus daughter and when Jesus was on the Mount of Transfiguration, Jesus took with Him only three of His disciples; Peter, James and John. Why? Because they were in right association with Jesus. These three disciples were eye witnesses to it and other disciples only heard about it. These three disciples by them being in right association with Jesus put them in a position to witness a higher degree of the supernatural.

From this expounding of the above scripture, we learn that being in the right association with other Godly children of God is very powerful and has potential to take you to higher places in your daily walk with God and in your relationship with God.

Also consider when Lazarus was sick, his sisters could call on Jesus to come and heal him. Lazarus later died whilst Jesus was on route to them but Jesus then resurrected Lazarus from the dead. By Mary, Martha and Lazarus being in the right association with Jesus, the miraculous could occur in their lives.

We can that Peter, James, John, Mary, Martha and Lazarus were part of Jesus’ inner circle. The Scribes and Pharisees was possibly part of Jesus’ outer circle. From the above you can see that Jesus knew how to have boundaries with different people and hence knew how to relate and associate with them accordingly. So too, we too much understand and have boundaries with others with whom we associate with.

Throughout Jesus’ earthly ministry, Jesus was still the salt bringing out the God flavors in the world and still the light that dispels the darkness of ignorance, sickness, death and such like. So too, as we live in this world and as we associate with others, we too must still continue to be the salt and light that God has called us to be. How do we do this? Let’s look at some of these foundational stones that enabled Jesus to have the right association with others and let’s also practice same in our lives, as this will also enable us to be in the right association with others.

Some foundational stones that enabled Jesus to have the right association with people;

When Jesus walked this earth, Jesus was led by God the Holy Spirit and Jesus walked in Godly love with all. So too, must we.

Jesus made time to be with God the Father in prayer (See Mark 1:35, Matthew 14:23; Luke 6:12). So too, must we.

Jesus read God’s Word, quoted God’s Word and followed God’s Word (See Luke 4:18 and the Gospels). So too, must we.

Jesus knew who He was and what He came to do. So too, must we. From The Word of God we learn who we are and whose we are. Spend time in The Word of God and in God’s presence. Be the salt of the earth that brings out the God flavors in the world and be the light that God has called you to be.

Jesus had the right boundaries with people. So too, must we. We must be careful not to let people take God’s place in our life and we should guard against having soul ties. Pursue after having a close and personal relationship with God the Father.

These are only some foundational stones and I would encourage you that as you walk with God that you continue to seek God and let God reveal more of these foundational stones to you.

I would also encourage you that you pursue after and have a close and personal relationship with God and that in prayer that you seek God and let God direct you concerning the people in your life and the boundaries that you should have with each and that you continually walk in Godly love with everyone.

Always be mindful that God is a good God and His plans for you are for good and that you are deeply loved by God.

Do you know the truth?

Eternity, where are you going to spend it? in heaven or in hell. It is a serious matter; take a moment to think about where you will spend eternity.

Just like heaven is a real place, so too is hell. The Bible describes hell as a place where the fire is not quenched and where the worm does not die.

Hell is a real place that was prepared for Satan, his co-host and for those who are separated from God by sin.

The good news is, it is not God’s will that any human being spend eternity in hell. God loves you so much, that He gave the Lord Jesus Christ, that who so ever believes in Jesus, should not perish in hell but have everlasting life in heaven (John 3:16).

The reality is, the choice is yours. Whilst you are alive on earth, you decide where you will spend eternity.

God has made a way for you to be forgiven from your sins and to be no longer separated by sin from Him.

If you choose to accept the way that God has made for you to come to Him and to be forgiven from your sins, then please pray the Prayer for Salvation that follows.

Prayer for Salvation

Heavenly Father God, I come to You, through the Lord Jesus Christ and I ask You to please have mercy on me and to save me.

Dear Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and into my life. I confess that I am a sinner and that I have sinned and have done wrong. I am sorry for my sins and wrong doings and I choose to turn from them now.

Dear Lord Jesus, I confess with my mouth that you are Lord of my life and I believe with my whole heart that You died on the cross for my sins and that God raised You from the dead. I ask You, to please forgive me of all of my sins and wrong doings and to wash me in Your precious blood.

Heavenly Father, I also ask that Your Holy Spirit would give me the life of heaven that I may be born again. Please help me to live a life that is pleasing and acceptable to You.

Dear Lord Jesus, I also ask that You baptize me and fill me with God The Holy Spirit.

Thank You for answer to my prayer, for I pray and ask all of this now, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Welcome to the family of God. I would encourage you to read and follow God’s word as found in The Holy Bible and I would also encourage you to find and attend a good church where the Word of God is taught and practiced.

It is my prayer, that this ebook has been a blessing to you and that your eyes of your understanding has been enlightened to this principle of association and that you constantly aim to be in right association with everyone.

God bless,

Ajeeth Sing.
