This book’s title “The Other Side” refers to the Judeo-Christian Scriptures’ discussion of existence after human physical death.

This book will not get into a discussion about whether the Judeo-Christian Scriptures (the “Bible” in today’s vernacular) are inspired writings, or if God really exists, or numerous questions like this. It is simply an extrapolation of particular Biblical scriptures which speak about eternity and immortality.

This book’s purpose is to assist people – no matter what their spirituality or belief system – to possibly consider a “bigger picture” according to the Bible, which had its beginnings over a few thousand years ago.

This book is coming from a Christian perspective – a perspective that basically and ultimately believes in a Creator of all things, both in the physical and non-physical realms.

My goal is to bring you further hope, peace, and understanding in God’s plan. It is my heart’s desire that you will be positively impacted and enlightened by this discussion, and that you might see a bigger picture of life and God’s purposes for us as human beings – both here and on The Other Side, in the ages to come.

Ephesians 2:7 (NLT) – So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.

Over 30 years ago as I began reading the Bible, one very key question struck me: how seriously should I accept what I am reading?

I realized that there are some very important concepts being presented in the Bible, and if I really, really decided to really, really believe what I was reading, then I would need to really, really adjust some things in my life.

One thing I read is that every human being will need to give an account at the end of their lives to The Creator. This seemed to be like an annual one-on-one review with the boss at my work place – but way more important!

Other things I read are: there is life outside of the current natural / physical realm, and there is life after death.

As I watched various people in my life pass away over the years, these Biblical concepts started to really shock me. Reading information such as over 150,000 people die every day around the world (look it up!) and other topics like these, further cemented my concerns for the future possibility of eternity.

If my existence does not end at the ceasing of my physical life, what is the future really going to be like? What would I be doing a million years from now, if this is all true? What will YOU be doing a million years from now, if this is all true?

One key thing I have learned in this search concerning our immortality and eternity: our long-term future is not in Heaven. I’m sure this will rattle Christians and non-Christians alike, but as you read on, I believe you will find quite a bit of interesting information which will confirm this statement.

Romans 2:7 (NLT) – [He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers.
_ _]

How often do we hear that we are to seek after (pursue) glory and honor and immortality?

The Gospel of Jesus Christ – summed up in the following four statements – is truly what the Bible is all about.

Consider the possibilities about a future immortal and eternal kingdom in the statements below.

1.      People were designed by God to live in immortality *]and [+unity+]*], under His theocracy *]and in His eternal [+kingdom+]*].

2.      Jesus the Christ (the Messiah) is the eternal [*king *]of this eternal kingdom.

3.      The “law of the land” in this eternal kingdom is to treat others like you want to be treated.

4.      To live in this eternal kingdom, a person must have a new nature and a great attitude.

Biblical support:[
* *]

1.a. [*Immortality *]- 1 Corinthians 15 (resurrection of the dead), Ephesians 2:7;

1.b. [*Unity *]- John 15:12, 1 Corinthians 1:10;

1.c. [*Theocracy *]- Leviticus 26:12, Ezekiel 37:27, 2 Corinthians 6:16-17;

1.d. [*Kingdom *]- Matthew 6:13c, Psalms 145:13, Revelations 21:1-5.

2. [*King *]- Matthew 2:1-2, Philippians 2:9-11, Revelation 19:11-16, Psalms 2.

3. Treat others like you want to be treated – Matthew 7:12, Luke 6:31. (Read these verses in their context!)

4.a. New nature – John 3:3-8, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 6:15;

4.b. Great attitude – Philippians 2:5, Romans 12:2, 1

Thessalonians 4:1-12.

Proverbs 12:28 (NIV) – [In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality.
_ _]

1 Corinthians 15:53~54 (NIV) – [For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
_ _]

2 Timothy 1:10 (NIV) – […but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
_ _]

As we continue to explore this subject of Biblical immortality and The Other Side, we find even more amazing facts about it.

I have asked many people this question, “What will you be doing on the other side?” It is interesting that they generally have the same answers:

  1. Go to Heaven.
  2. Worship God.
  3. Pray.
  4. Be with other people that they knew on earth.

When I ask, “What else?”, they always say, “I don’t know”.

Exploring Biblical immortality for its own sake is not the end of the journey. Let us look at how the Bible gives examples about what this future could look like. So, using our intelligence, reasoning, and imagination…

[Heaven is a +]temporary[ staging area for believers after their bodies stop working in this life.+] However, humans were designed to live in a physical body, and to exist eternally on a physical earth.

Genesis 1:26-27 (NIV) – [_Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. _
_ _]

In eternity, God’s immortal intention shall be fulfilled, since there will be a new physical realm of heaven and earth for us to live in. There will also be order, and there will be work for us to do.

Let’s look at the following points which support these statements.

[A.) A new heavens and a new earth are coming:
* *]

Revelation 21:1~3 (NIV) – [Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.
_ _]

2 Peter 3:12b~13 (NIV) – [That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.
_ _]

[B.) There will be nations and kings on the other side:
* *]

Revelation 21:22~24 (NIV) – [I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it.
_ _]

Revelation 22:1~2 (NIV) – [Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
_ _]

[C.) There will be cities (don’t nations have cities?) and cities need order and government:
* *]

Luke 19:15~19 (NIV) – …[“He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it. “The first one came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned ten more.’ “‘Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.’ “The second came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned five more.’ “His master answered, ‘You take charge of five cities.’
_ _]

[D.) An excellent “organizational” model of the immortal future can be found in Moses’ patterns, as well as the kingdoms of David and Solomon.
* *]

We know that all Believers will be at a different maturity level when they pass over to The Other Side, and that every person should not be allowed to do what is right in their own eyes over there any more than over here (Deuteronomy 12:8; Judges 17:6, 21:25). And since Scripture infers strongly the needed pattern for order with hierarchy, why would we not need order on The Other Side?

Exodus 18:21 (NIV) – [But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.
_ _]

1 Thessalonians 5:12~13 (NIV) – [Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.
_ _]

Hebrews 13:7 (NIV) – [Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.
_ _]

Matthew 19:28 (NIV) – Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. [“Judging” not only means “tribunal” but “administration”]

[E.) Work and assignments are good things in this life to help us be fulfilled as beings made in God’s image… should we not consider that we will have duties and responsibilities in immortality / eternal life?
* *]

1 Chronicles 9:22~33 (NIV) – [Altogether, those chosen to be gatekeepers at the thresholds numbered 212. They were registered by genealogy in their villages. The gatekeepers had been assigned to their positions of trust by David and Samuel the seer. They and their descendants were in charge of guarding the gates of the house of the LORD—the house called the Tent. The gatekeepers were on the four sides: east, west, north and south. Their brothers in their villages had to come from time to time and share their duties for seven-day periods. But the four principal gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the responsibility for the rooms and treasuries in the house of God. They would spend the night stationed around the house of God, because they had to guard it; and they had charge of the key for opening it each morning. Some of them were in charge of the articles used in the temple service; they counted them when they were brought in and when they were taken out. Others were assigned to take care of the furnishings and all the other articles of the sanctuary, as well as the flour and wine, and the oil, incense and spices. But some of the priests took care of mixing the spices. A Levite named Mattithiah, the firstborn son of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with the responsibility for baking the offering bread. Some of their Kohathite brothers were in charge of preparing for every Sabbath the bread set out on the table. Those who were musicians, heads of Levite families, stayed in the rooms of the temple and were exempt from other duties because they were responsible for the work day and night.
_ _]

1 Thessalonians 4:11~12 (NIV) – [Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
_ _]

Colossians 1:10 (NIV) – [And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God…
_ _]

Again, using the Bible and our intelligence, reasoning, and imagination, we can “see” the possibilities of God’s “new world order” in the immortality to come, in the new physical realm.

The resurrection of the dead… have you ever heard of this? Do you understand what it means, and what its purpose is?

This is the “meat” of Judeo-Christianity – a resurrection of the dead for every human who ever existed. I was told once that we “practice” this truth of God every time we wake up from sleeping!

The basic concept of the resurrection of the dead means “standing up again from a corpse” (and no, not a zombie).

Since Jesus was raised from the dead, so will all humans.

Matthew 28:5-7 (NLT) – [Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.”
_ _]

Romans 10:9 (NIV) – [If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
_ _]

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (NLT) – [I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
_ _]

1 Corinthians 15:17 (NLT) – [And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins.
_ _]

1 Corinthians 15:20~23 (NLT) – [So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man. Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life. But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised as the first of the harvest; then all who belong to Christ will be raised when he comes back.
_ _]

1 Corinthians 15:42~44 (NLT) – [It is the same way with the resurrection of the dead. Our earthly bodies are planted in the ground when we die, but they will be raised to live forever. Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength. They are buried as natural human bodies, but they will be raised as spiritual bodies. For just as there are natural bodies, there are also spiritual bodies.
_ _]

My body and yours will “stop working” some day. Our bodies will be resurrected from the dead some day, as well.

Next, let’s look at why God has planned for humans to have an immortal physical body for His immortal future.

God’s desire in the beginning was to be with – to walk and talk with – people. And it is still His desire. We see this fact in God’s constant pursuit of mankind in the Bible. He makes repeated statements about wanting to be with people.

Genesis 3:8-9 (NLT) – [When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard t[he Lord God walking about in the garden… Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
_ _]

Exodus 25:8 (NLT) – [“Have the people of Israel build me _][God][ a holy sanctuary so I can live among them.”_
_ _]

2 Corinthians 6:16-18 (NLT) – And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said:

I will live in them

[_ and walk among them._]

I will be their God,

_ and they will be my people._

Therefore, come out from among unbelievers,

_ and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord._

Don’t touch their filthy things,

_ and I will welcome you._

And I will be your Father,

[_ and you will be my sons and daughters,_]

[_ says the Lord Almighty.”_
_ _]

Revelation 21:1-5 (NLT) – [Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.”
_ _]

“God Himself will be with them”, in the New Earth, dwelling in the New Jerusalem.

Finally, God gets what He wants: living and abiding with the human race – with you, with me – just like He planned and wanted at the beginning.

In regards to the four statements listed in Chapter 2, I was asked once about the specifics concerning a person having a new nature and a great attitude, in order to live in God’s eternal kingdom.

The new nature is in regards to the supernatural change of being born again. The great attitude is a new thought process and submission to Him. Both of these must occur before we pass over to The Other Side.

New Nature[
* *]

The key to understanding this concept is realizing that we humans have a spirit body, as well as a human body (1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 4:12).

We are made in God’s likeness, and since He is a spirit being, so are we. Another example is the angels: they have spirit bodies to move around in the spirit realm; and like them, when our bodies stop functioning, we move into the spirit realm. And just like we have to be physically born to experience the physical realm, our dead spirits must be “born” to experience the spirit realm of the kingdom of heaven.

The “rebirth” of the human spirit comes to the person who has submitted their heart to the King – that is, Jesus. He is the only one who has restored and rejoined both physical and spirit realms as a divine being, to make this a possibility for the human race. This is because the Creator of both of these realms ordained the process this way.

The new nature is critical as the first step, in that our human spirits are literally dead due to the inherent sin penalty passed on to us from Adam’s error. Due to this supernatural death, a supernatural birth – or even the ‘resurrection from the dead’ of our spirits – is required to exist in the supernatural / spirit realm of the kingdom of heaven.

New Attitude[
* *]

After becoming alive in our spirits – that is, becoming born again – the next process is to learn the language, behavior, customs and courtesies of this kingdom of heaven, into which we have been literally (re-)birthed. Just like we need to learn and grow and get along with others in this physical realm in the country / community that we exist in on this earth, we have to do the same for God’s country / community. Another way to look at this is similar to if we are moving to another city or country here on earth: we have to prepare to fit in!

[Understand that when we step over to +]the other side[, our personalities and relational style are not going to be different than how we trained ourselves ]on this side[.+] We will still have a free will, as well. Both this side and the other side is made up of others with personalities and free wills. God’s intention – His will – is to have an eternal / immortal community of people and beings who will behave with each other reflecting His relationship style: selfless, patient, kind, gentle, obedient, teachable, hardworking, and courageous.

God’s Original Plan[
* *]

God’ original plan with Adam and the human race was to have people that He created, to live forever in both the physical and spirit realms. However, Adam / humans failed in this relationship with God, which resulted in both physical and spiritual death for Adam and the rest of us.

God offers the restoration of His original plan to humans, through Jesus Christ, who has related correctly (by God’s standards) in both realms. Being aware of this concept makes other key statements in the Bible quite logical, such as the future resurrection of the dead, as well as the forthcoming new heaven and new earth. So God’s original plan is still intact, but with people who have willingly decided to participate in His relational-focused community for the ages to come.

Imagine! The utopian concept of an eternal and everlasting world of peace and love. (And in that utopian world, the environment will be fully restored too!) It was God’s plan from the start, and it’s the fulfillment of His plan in the very near future.

It’s horrible that the devil and man’s pride and religious systems have almost destroyed the awareness of these fundamental principles of the Bible.

No New Nature, Bad Attitude[
* *]

For those who have willingly rejected God’s plan of restoration and immortality of a community of people under the kingship of Jesus – and for those who may have once accepted it but later rejected it overtly or covertly – they will not be able to fit in.

They will be horribly agitated to live in this environment of worship of God, love, selflessness, holy joy, and peace. And because they are also eternal free-will beings, but with dead natures and bad attitudes, there must be another location for them to exist in.

Due to their rebellious and disruptive nature – and the disharmony this causes – they have to be isolated from ever causing trouble. This category of people and beings starts with the devil and his fallen angels, and unfortunately includes humans who have chosen to hate the plan of God. And God’s wrath is upon these rebels. He has offered an open hand of peace, reconciliation, and restoration, but these types of people and beings have chosen – overtly or covertly – to slap Him in the face.

Let us be people who seek after God’s glory and honor and immortality, to obtain a new nature from Him through Jesus Christ, and to develop a great attitude for the ages to come.

One of the main themes throughout this discussion – even though it has not been overtly stated – is the supernatural must be involved in order for any of this immortality to occur.

Romans 1:20 (NLT) – [For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
_ _]

If we look at the “invisible qualities” of God in the Bible, we see some interesting information about the current supernatural side of life – what can be called the “Spirit World”.

Spiritual Beings:

God the Father

God the Son

God the Holy Spirit

Faithful angels

Fallen angels

Spiritual Geography:

Lake of Fire

The Abyss

Kingdom of Light

Kingdom of Darkness

God has chosen to be very much involved with the human race (as much as the human race will allow Him!), and His supernatural words are confirmed by His supernatural activities, which in turn confirm His supernatural presence in the earth today.

Mark 16: 20 (NLT) – [And the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked through them, confirming what they said by many miraculous signs.
_ _]

God’s faith, hope, and love in the ages to come is confirmed by His supernatural activities of faith, hope, and love in our lives in this age. According to the Bible, the following should be “normal” Christianity today:

Personal Supernatural:

New Birth

Water Baptism

Holy Spirit Baptism

Tongues (that is, praying in the Spirit)

Community of Believers

Personal relationship with the Holy Spirit:

Guide, helper, comforter, teacher, advocate

1 or 2 Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Daily life in the Spirit

All 9 fruits of the Spirit

Purpose and Calling Defined

Peace and Rest

Corporate Supernatural:

Community of Believers

All 9 Gifts of the Holy Spirit:

Signs, Miracle, and Wonders

All 9 fruits of the Spirit

Church Government

God Glorified

Christ Manifested

Holy Spirit Supervises

We confirm and affirm with God’s supernatural world, activities, and design: The Other Side, Immortality, and Eternity are real.

Think about participating in God’s supernatural design during these days of your journey and adventure on earth. He has some amazing things for you. So ask, seek, knock – and you will receive an amazing “taste” of eternity and immortality now.

Before being able to fully walk out our futures on The Other Side – that is, our immortality – we must all pass through “The Interview”. A Biblical word for this is “judgment”.

Hebrews 6:1-3 (NLT) – [So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God. You don’t need further instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And so, God willing, we will move forward to further understanding.
_ _]

Romans 14:12 (NLT) – [[Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.
* *]]

One key doctrine of the basic and elementary truths of Christianity is eternal judgment. The word “judgment” basically means “decision”. Everyone gets an interview with God for their life’s work (words and actions), and He makes some decisions. The first decision is whether we meet His requirements for hanging out with Him (and His cool people) for all eternity. If we pass that decision, His next decision is our assignment(s) on The Other Side.

There are several judgments listed in the Bible…

  • Believers – 1 Corinthians 3:10-13
  • Unbelievers – Revelation 20:11-15
  • Nations – Matthew 25:31-32
  • Angels – 1 Corinthians 6:3; 2 Peter 2:4
  • Churches – Revelation, chapters 2 and 3
  • Israel – Ezekiel 20:33-38
  • Animals – Genesis 9:5-6
  • Religious leadership – Ezekiel 34:1-10; Hebrews 13:7
  • Secular leadership – Psalm 2:10-12

In the Scriptures below, Bible writer Paul is speaking about things like not taking advantage of one another, nor stirring up trouble with others – but to control ourselves. After we decide to “follow” Christianity, our life on earth is supposed to be practicing to get along with each other (and not just being religious!). Why? Is it so we humans can be good, moral people? Or is there a bigger reason? Maybe reasons like getting ready for The Interview, and getting ready for The Other Side and immortality.

Galatians 5:16,17,19~21 (NIV) – [But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one other, that you may not do the things that you desire… Now the works of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
_ _]

1 Thessalonians 4:9~12 (NIV) – [But concerning brotherly love, you have no need that one write to you. For you yourselves are taught by God to love one another, for indeed you do it toward all the brothers who are in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brothers, that you abound more and more; and that you make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, even as we charged you; that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and may have need of nothing.
_ _]

Acts 24:25 (NIV) – [As he reasoned about righteousness _][rightness in relationships][, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, “Go your way for this time, and when it is convenient for me, I will summon you.”_
_ _]

We are constantly exhorted in the Bible to behave properly towards God through Jesus Christ, towards each other, and towards ourselves – because that’s what we will need to do on the other side.

Do you know that even the angels have a free will? (Genesis 6:1,2; Isaiah 14:12~15; 2 Peter 2:4). [Our Heavenly Father is not interested in robots!
* *]

God will not be “controlling” our thoughts and relational styles – we will walk into His Kingdom with our relational styles already established. And we will still have a free will!

On The Other Side, we will be out of the presence of sin from this present world and age, and our bodies will be free from its tremendous pressures. But while on this earth, we are to practice and make the habit of walking in love, in these pressures of life, so that when we reach the The Other Side, we will be truly appreciative of God, and one another.

And repeating from Chapter 6, people who are unruly, mean-spirited, abusive, and divisive will have no place in this Kingdom of Peace. They will not be able to get along with others there who are nice – like Moses, David, Luke, Barnabas, John Mark, Rhoda [in Acts 12], and millions of others who have submitted their hearts and minds to the Holy but gentle Creator.

Romans 14:12 (NLT) – [Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.
_ _]

What do we think this one-on-one interview will look like?

Matthew 22:36-40 (NLT) – [“Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
_ _]

So, question number one from God could be, “Did you love me with all of your heart, all of your soul, and all of your mind?” And of course, you’ll need to provide some examples… the more, the better, actually. And I’m sure there will be freedom for conversation – besides your input, God will definitely put His perspective on things. (By the way, I have read about people who have gone to Heaven, and they say we will converse in thoughts…)

If we get past that question, the next one most likely will be, “Did you love your neighbor as yourself?” Another tough question for all of us, I think. I also believe that if we think we are squeaky clean in all of our relationships, God will invite some of those folks to the interview that we didn’t quite get things squared away with while we were on earth.

God’s last big question to each of us at our interview may be, “Did you love yourself?” This may sound a little crazy, but He expects us to manage ourselves well – He has entrusted us with a spirit, and a soul, and a body. How well did we do with these while on earth?

Will we fare well enough on this interview to be prepared for immortal and eternal relationships?

We need to take some time to really think about all the people over the millennia who have chosen to follow God, and that we will need to learn how to relate to them. For example, somebody from Mongolia who followed God in the third century will be on the other side. And we bring our westernized Christian relational style into The Other Side… how will that work out?

Besides the discipline of learning to love God, others, and self in order to be able to walk out our immortality and eternity with God in His kingdom, there is also the component of His “higher” education program which is very, very important.

The vast majority of Christians today do not really progress past their salvation and following some general rules of their churches (attend services, tithe, join a small group. etc.). Yet God has a massive amount of training and education planned for each one of us, which are important for this age and the ages to come.

Romans 12:2 (NLT) – [Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

If we look at the education and business systems of our world today, we know that in order to be successful at work, we need to be educated – and to continue our education. It is the same thing in the Kingdom of Heaven. The difference however, is the Kingdom of Heaven’s education and business systems are based on serving God and others, whereas the world’s education and business systems focus primarily on serving oneself.

God’s education program starts with becoming very, very familiar with His Bible. Then, learning and walking in key doctrines such as the basic and elementary truths of Christ are critical (Hebrews 6:1-3). An incredibly important topic for us is understanding our spirit, our soul, and our body (1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 4:12). Additionally, there are purposes and callings from God for each one of us which include deeper training and education, so we can be properly effective in His kingdom business in this life and the next.

In summary, God has a very, very big future planned for every person – if they will accept this truth. This doesn’t mean our lives will be easy; life is not always easy whether a person is a Christian or not. However, a Christian with understanding of the here-and-now, as well as of the future, will not be easily shaken when life’s circumstances are not the best.

1 Peter 1:6-8 (NLT) – [So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold — though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

It is apparent in the following verses of Scripture, that Jesus is sharing a “schedule of events”. He is the Nobleman going (to the Father) to receive the Kingdom, and after having done so, returns to find those worthy of ruling over the literal cities within that immortal, eternal Kingdom, on The Other Side.

Luke 19:11~13,15~19 (NIV) – As they heard these things, he [Jesus] went on and told a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and they supposed that the Kingdom of God would be revealed immediately. He said therefore, “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. He called ten servants of his, and gave them ten mina coins, and told them, ‘Conduct business until I come.’

[“It happened when he had come back again, having received the kingdom, that he commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by conducting business. The first came before him, saying, ‘Lord, your mina _][coin][ has made ten more minas ][coins][.’_]

“He said to him, ‘Well done, you good servant! Because you were found faithful with very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.’

[_ “The second came, saying, ‘Your mina ][coin][, Lord, has made five minas ][coins][.’_]

[“So he said to him, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’

In Chapter 2, we looked at the four statements of the Gospel of Jesus Christ… are these clearer to you now after this discussion?

Let us be faithful to God on this side of life, to prepare our lives for The Other Side, in the ages to come.

Did you know God wants reconciliation and restoration with every person?

2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (NIV) – [All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
_ _]

Did you know that Jesus, the Son of God, made the reconciliation possible, and that you simply need to receive that gift of reconciliation to receive immortal and eternal love from God?

Romans 10:9-13 (NLT) – [If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

If you would like peace with God your Creator and immortality with Him, speak this now, out loud, from your heart…

  1. Father, forgive my sins. (My unlove for You, my unlove for others, and my unlove for myself.)
  2. Jesus, come into my heart.
  3. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.
  4. Thank You for saving me.

If you said this with your heart, Jesus is now in your heart. And you should have felt something amazing and supernatural to confirm that!

The Basic and Elementary Teachings About Christ –

Hebrews 6:1~3 (NIV)

[Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so.

I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

The Other Side

For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). John 3:16 - We've heard it preached in churches, on television, and on the radio. We see it on poster-board signs at football games, on bumper stickers, and billboards. But many of us do not understand the "eternal life" aspect of that statement. This small and easy-to-read book provides some very enlightening information about "The Other Side" of life.
