Before I cut loose on this story for some readers that may never heard of one of the most evil men in America his name is H.H. Holmes who is the first documented serial killer in the United States. During the 1893 Columbia Exposition he lured his victims into his “Murder Castle” that was built to his expectations with gas jets piped into some rooms to gas his victims and also trapdoors and chutes that he could move the bodies down to the basement so he could burn his victims and sell their skeletal remains for money. It is said that he killed over two hundred women or maybe more. H.H. Holmes was sentenced by hanging on May 7, 1896 and buried at the Holy Cross cemetery in Delaware County Pennsylvania.

The story begins here now that we have some background on H.H. Holmes. Fast forward to 1976 when Jason Keller decided to write his first novel on serial killer H.H. Holmes, but just writing about him wasn’t enough for him so he decided to pay a visit to the murder castle to get his creative juices flowing. When Jason arrived at the very spot where murder castle once stood he was disappointed to find out it had burned down long ago and was now a post office. Instead of getting back in his car and driving off he decided to go inside the post office and ask the post master if there was any existing part of murder castle still part of the foundation and if H.H. Holmes could still be haunting this place. Jason interviewed some of the employees at the post office to see if they ever had a ghostly encounter with H.H. Holmes ghost but after interviewing many of them he wasn’t getting the information he so desperately needed to start on his novel so he left and headed to the library to read some books on the occult to see if he could somehow bring H.H. Holmes ghost to life and communicate with him so he could be the first author in history to write his novel with the help of a ghost from the past.

Jason read some books on the occult but didn’t know where to begin and was frustrated again and as he was placing a book back on the shelf an elderly woman came up to him and said “I noticed you were reading some books on the occult, maybe I can help you.”

Jason said “Old woman I don’t think you could be much help to me. I think I’ll just write about something else.” “Wait just a minute I may be old but I’m very wise and can help you if you want me too, but you’ll have to come over to my cabin in the woods where the very book that I have in my possession is that can give you what you need to know. These books in this library will not help you at all. My book is called Necronomicon.” “Necronomicon, what the heck is that?” laughed Jason. “This book is nothing to laugh about it is the book of the dead and if you’re wanting to see or speak with the dead then you’ll take me dead serious about this young man.” “Well if you put it that way then I’m listening and will follow you to your cabin and fill you in on what I’m looking for,” said Jason.

Jason got in his car and followed the witch to her cabin in the woods. As Jason’s car went deeper into the woods down the dirt road the beautiful blue sky turned black and thunder pounded the sky and the lightning lit up the sky. Jason started getting a little nervous but this was his last ditch effort to make his dream come alive and wasn’t about to back down now so he pressed on the gas pedal and finally what seemed like an eternity the witch’s cabin was in sight which gave him a sigh of relief. Jason put his car in park and got out of his car and followed the witch inside her dusty old cabin. Just as he stepped inside the cabin a black cat ran across his shoes but Jason wasn’t superstitious so to him it was just another ordinary cat. The witch said in a low tone of voice “Have a seat and I’ll make you some tea to calm your nerves.” Jason replied “That would nice.”

As the witch was pouring his cup of tea the witch asked him “What would you like me to do for you?” Jason exclaimed “You’re probably going to think I’m crazy but I believe if you make this happen I’ll be the most famous author ever.” “Go ahead and tell me,” said the witch laughingly.

“Well there is this famous serial killer from the 1800’s that is the first documented one in the United States. I am wanting to bring his ghost back from the dead and ask him about all the murders he committed and even the ones no one knows about.”

“Well is this a foolish request?” asked Jason. “No, of course not if this is what you wish for then so be it but when you bring him back the consequences could be grave for you.” “Whatever, just do it witch!” said Jason.

The witch placed the book of the dead on the table and as the pages turned on its own the thunder was again pounding the sky as though the cabin was about to explode. Then it got quiet and the pages stopped turning and the black cat leaped onto the table with eyes glowing red and placed its paw on one of the pages and the page started glowing and the witch said “This is just what you’re looking for.” “Okay witch tell me what I need to do?” asked Jason as his adrenaline was kicking in.

The witch said “You need to go to his grave and dig up his bones and bring the bones back to wherever the killings took place and chant his name over and over six times then put six drops of this potion on his bones and finally cut your finger and drip six drops of your blood into the mouth of his skull and he will come to life.” “Are you sure this will work?’ laughed Jason in disbelief. “If you follow these steps you won’t fail, now go and you will see,” laughed the witch.

“Okay, witch I’ll do just as you asked,” replied Jason.

Jason sped off down the dirt road ready to get started and see if this was just a joke to make him look like a stupid fool for believing the witch but Jason said “I don’t have a better idea so maybe this will work after all.”

Jason went to the cemetery where H.H. Holmes was buried and dug up his skeletal remains and put them in a box in the trunk of his car and high tailed it out of the cemetery before he could be seen by the cops and spoil his plans. Jason made it to the post office where the murder castle use to stand and as he glanced down at his watch he said aloud “Its midnight and not a sole in these dark streets.” Breaking into the post office wasn’t too difficult for him because the witch appeared out of nowhere and said “I’ll get you in unnoticed so you can begin.” Jason turned around and said “Thanks! Witch.”

The door flung wide open and Jason pulled out a flashlight out of his back pocket to light his way down to the basement and begin conjuring up the ghost of H.H. Holmes. Jason made his way down with the box of H.H. Holmes remains and placed the bones down on the floor forming a complete skeleton, and chanted his name six times then put six drops of the witches potion on the bones, and pulled out his pocket knife, and cut his finger, and squeezed out six drops of blood into the mouth of H.H. Holmes skull. Jason was unaware everything he did in three six’s was the mark of the beast 666. Then right before his eyes H.H. Holmes skeleton was forming back into a living breathing human being back from the dead. H.H. Holmes rose up from the floor and said “It’s good to be back and I can’t wait to kill again!” Not only did H.H. Holmes come back from the dead but so did his Murder Castle and before Jason could ask him about his killings H.H. Holmes grabbed Jason by the neck with his ice cold hands and squeezed his neck choking off his air supply until his body went limp and fell to the floor dead. H.H. Holmes dragged Jason’s lifeless body down to the cellar and fired up the furnace and tossed his body into the flames and felt he was back in business once more but H.H. Holmes furnace would burn out by morning and H.H. Holmes and the murder castle would vanish because the witches spell would only last until the sun rise in the morning.

What became a dream for this wanna be famous author Jason Keller instead turned deadly in the end for him and never got to become what he longed to be. What a shame to have to go to such extremes to want to be famous and not just work hard like any normal author would have done but what happened to Jason could happen to any one of us should we there is better way to make it big without earning it. If you choose to open the book of the dead and unleash the hell it possesses and think this is the way then you may end up just like Jason Keller did dead.
