Any child will love this tale as they learn about courage and bravery and the fact that you can do anything if you only put your mind to it.

The Father’s Treasure

There once was a young boy who had heard mysterious tales of a hidden treasure of gold.

The boy’s father had talked to him about the treasure every night. When the boy’s father became ill he made the boy promise that when the father died he would search for the treasure.

The boy was not sure what to think. Surely his father could not be serious? Was there really a treasure map?

Could he bring wealth to his family?

A few weeks passed and just moments before the father passed away he handed his son a folded up piece of paper and told him to open it in the morning.

The boy promised to and he and his mother held his father’s hand as he peacefully died.

The boy was very sad but he kept his promise and the next morning he unrolled the paper.

He couldn’t believe his eyes! It was a treasure map! The treasure was real! He had to find it for his mother but could he be brave enough?

The next morning the boy told his mother his plans to go look for the treasure his father had hoped he would find.

His mother was worried and did not want him to go but he insisted.

He packed up his few belongings and gave his mother a long hug goodbye.

He gathered up his courage and walked out the door.

This was it! He was on his way to find the gold.

The first thing the treasure map told him was to go past the tall castle at the top of the mountain.

The boy had looked at the castle in the distance many times and now he would travel there.

It was a long journey. After three days the boy finally reached the base of the magnificent castle.

It was taller than anything he had seen and it reached right up into the clouds.

The boy lay down to rest his weary body and slept deeply knowing that the second part of the journey would start at dawn.

In the morning when then boy woke up he took a good long stretch. Then he pulled out the treasure map to go over what came next.

What came next was to find the tree with the coat of arms on it.

The coat of arms had two men on it.

They each held a club and they each wore clothes made from a bear.

The boy knew there were many trees up ahead that had a coat of arms on it.

When he found the tree with the correct coat of arms he was to turn left and continue on.

He passed a coat of arms depicting a family’s name and one covered in different types of livestock.

He saw one with flags on it and then he finally found the one he was looking for.

He turned left at the tree and continued on his way.

The next landmark he was to look for was a rock shaped like the crown on the coat of arms.

This seemed like a difficult task as there were many rocks in many shapes.

It would be easy to miss one shaped like a crown.

The map also said when you got there you would want to dig right in front of that rock.

The boy looked closely at every rock he passed by.

This was just too important to miss. He wanted to make his father proud.

This treasure could support his mother and him for the rest of their lives and help other people in their village as well.

The boy suddenly stopped in his tracks.

There in front of him was a massive rock. There was no mistaking it.

It looked exactly like the crown in the picture.

He sank to his knees and cried out in relief.

He was finally here!

The boy found a thick branch and began to dig away at the soft dirt.

He dug for what seemed like hours.

Sweat dripped down his back and the sun beat down on his skin.

He was so thirsty. Suddenly he heard a clang!

The branch had hit something.

Energized now he dropped to his knees and began furiously removing the dirt with his bare hands.

Then he saw it.

The first glimmer of gold.

He pulled the treasure chest out and called out to the heavens “This is for you father!” He slowly opened it and then sat back as he gasped in amazement.

It was full.

Gold was literally dripping out of the container’s opening.

It was more wealth then he had ever seen and more gold then he could spend in a lifetime.

He felt a tear run down his cheek. “Thank you Father, thank you”, he whispered silently as he looked up at the sky.
