Dedication/Acknowledgements
This Chapbook is dedicated in the loving memory of Garland “S.I.”Tyree, Carolyn Faircloth Gerhardt, as well as the rest of my fallen comrades and loved ones. Red tears I will forever shed…
I would like to thank my mother and father for their unconditional love. I would like to thank Ms. Bianca “binkyboo” Rodriguez, Marley G. Swagger, Mr. Kilo James, Ricky Shaw, Kennan Winn, Stephon Jennings, Rasheen Price, as well as the rest of my team for continuing to live in the name of love, peace, justice, freedom and truth. If you were not mentioned blame my mind not my heart. Special thanks to those who have continued to plot and pray for my demise.
Introduction
When you stop growing you stop living. There’s no way around it. If you can’t challenge your way of thinking, how solid was your conviction in the first place?
This chapbook’s title speaks for itself. This is art for the people. I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you enjoy it. Love is love no matter how you spell it.
Prologue: Final Exams
Huey P and Bobby Seale’s fight for their brothers and sisters plight of the enforcement of civil rights. Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and the prophet Muhammad’s perseverance. Nelson Mandela’s incarceration for twenty-seven years without a single tear. William Lloyd Garrison’s only intuition and decision revolved around abolition. Not only the leader of the Haitian revolution; Toussaint L’ Ouverture was solely responsible for his manumission from the slavery institution. Prince Siddhartha’s stride to reach the enlightened state of Buddha and Buddhism’s mission statement to end all suffering.
Thumbnail sketch at best was the test. Not in regards to obtaining personal gain or self gratification, but strictly for the people. Strictly for the people, strictly for the people, Strictly for the people.
“All the Time”
When in thought,
are you a scholar of your past thoughts
or the teacher of
what’s now being taught?
If you answer too quick
you might miss it.
If you answer too slow,
your answer might just be no.
Just know
your answer will essentially
help you grow.
“Reporting Live”
Black lives matter,
but what about the latter?
As we continue to get caught up
in the ideology of
wearing t-shirts and using hashtags,
when are we going to strive to become
#BetterMoms and #BetterDads ?
Black lives matter,
but what about the latter?
It has been said, “Charity starts at home”,
but as we continue to riot
and tear down our very own,
It makes me ask
“Who’s side are we really even on?”
Yes I agree,
Change has to start in the physical
true indeed.
Through hurting your won,
what is it that
we are really standing to
achieve and succeed?
Black lives matter
but what about the latter?
When I say latter,
