There are many ways to skin a cat so they say. But not all of them are optimally effective. That saying is applicable to all diets too – there are many different ways to diet but not all are effective and healthy. Only a handful are, and one of them is the Paleo Diet.

In this short book, you’ll learn what the Paleo Diet is all about, why many people are crazy about it, and general guidelines on how to use it in order to lose weight healthily, increase your energy, and improve your health. Chapter 1: Paleo 101

The Paleo Diet has made prehistoric eating so modern and chic. Why? Because it works! And by that I mean it helps people successfully lose weight, get healthier, and enjoy more energy!

The word “Paleo” is derived from the word “paleolithic”, which refers to the Stone Age. As the name suggests, the Paleo Diet is one where a person tries to eat like Neanderthals or cavemen during the Paleolithic era or Stone Age. No wonder it’s also called the Stone Age or Caveman diet.

Why The Paleo Diet Will Be Good For You

As mentioned earlier, the Paleo Diet’s one of the most popular and relevant diets today because it allows you to enjoy benefits that most other diets aren’t able to give, such as:

p<>{color:#000;}. Generally Better Health: The Paleo Diet can help you lower certain health risks, which contribute to better overall health. In particular, the diet can help you lower your cardiovascular risks by lowering blood pressure, reducing triglyceride and cholesterol levels, and lowering your chances of acquiring Type II diabetes.

p<>{color:#000;}. Weight Loss: This is the single biggest reason for the popularity of the diet. However, many other diets can also help you achieve significant weight loss even without exercising. So what makes the Paleo Diet special? It focuses more on body fat loss rather than general weight loss, which is usually muscle mass and water as is the case with crash diets. Also, the Paleo Diet isn’t a crash diet that you do for just a few weeks before abandoning in favor of going back to unhealthy eating. Paleo is more of a nutritional lifestyle – and a delicious one too!

Energy: More than just losing body fat, many people who have implemented the Paleo Diet experienced a significant boost in their energy, which allowed them to become more productive during their waking hours. And such energy boost isn’t just for the short term – it’s long-lasting! It’s because unlike crash diets that excessively restrict food intake, the Paleo Diet actually lets you eat delicious food, albeit in moderation. It focuses more on the kinds of foods you eat, where the amount is only secondary. As such, you won’t just feel energized. You’ll also feel energized for longer!

 

Chapter 2: Paleolithic Principles

For you to be able to successfully do the Paleo Diet and stick to it, you’ll need to understand 2 important principles:

p<>{color:#000;}. Our prehistoric ancestors – the Neanderthals – were able to gradually evolve and adapt to the Paleolithic Era’s naturally occurring foods over thousands of years, which is a testament to the longevity of the diet and its ability to help people live longer.

p<>{color:#000;}. Unlike our prehistoric ancestors, we haven’t had the same opportunity to evolve and adapt to the modern diets that we now have. And our diets today are so high in calories, artificial ingredients, dairy, legumes, and grains. What’s the problem with these foods? Many in the scientific community believe that these are responsible for a lot of the sicknesses and diseases that afflict millions of people all over the world today. These include obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes, among many others. Collectively, these sicknesses are referred to as “affluent lifestyle” sicknesses.

Now you understand why the Paleo Diet mimics or emphasizes eating like a caveman and why it works. It’s a diet that avoids many ingredients used in most of today’s foods, ingredients that over time increase risks for potentially fatal and degenerative health conditions.

 

Chapter 3: What You Can Eat

The Paleo Diet is a very simple diet to do or implement. It’s all about focusing on eating right and there’s very little, if any, calorie counting involved. So what can you eat under the Paleo Diet?

Your basic food staples should be comprised of natural, whole, and unprocessed foods, including:

p<>{color:#000;}. Meats like pork, chicken, turkey, lamb, and beef;

p<>{color:#000;}. Seafoods like shellfish, shrimp, haddock, trout, salmon, and tuna (wild-caught if possible);

p<>{color:#000;}. Omega-3 enriched or free-range eggs;

p<>{color:#000;}. Vegetables such as tomatoes, carrots, onions, peppers, kale, and broccoli;

*
p<>{color:#000;}. Fruits such as blueberries, strawberries, oranges, avocados, pears, bananas, and apples (organic as much as possible);

p<>{color:#000;}. Tubers like turnips, yams, sweet potatoes, and regular potatoes;

*
p<>{color:#000;}. Seeds and nuts such as pumpkin seeds, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, walnuts, almonds, and macadamia nuts;

p<>{color:#000;}. Spices and salt such as garlic, Himalayan and sea salts, rosemary, and turmeric; and

*
p<>{color:#000;}. Healthy fats from sources such as avocado oil, coconut oil, olive oil, tallow, and lard.

As for drinks, nothing beats pure, clean water. But if you really need some variety, you can go for green tea and black coffee. Even if the Neanderthals never had the chance to enjoy tea and coffee like we do today, these are allowed under the Paleo diet because both are great for the health as they’re very high in anti-oxidants.

 

Chapter 4: What You Can’t Eat

Equally important under the Paleo Diet are the foods you’ll need to avoid in order to successfully lose body fat, increase energy, and improve health. The general rule of thumb is to avoid eating or drinking food and drinks that aren’t “natural” or whole, i.e., processed foods. You must also avoid the following foods and ingredients under the diet:

p<>{color:#000;}. Grains like barley, rye, spelt, wheat, and rice that are found in pastas and breads;

p<>{color:#000;}. High fructose corn syrup and sugar, which are abundant in ice cream, pastries, candy, table sugar (of course), commercially available fruit juices, and soft drinks;

p<>{color:#000;}. Highly processed foods including synthetic meal-replacement shakes, and foods labeled as “non-fat”, “low-fat”, “diet”, or “sugar-free”;

*
p<>{color:#000;}. Legumes such as lentils and beans;

*
p<>{color:#000;}. Most dairy products, especially those labeled as “low-fat”;

*
p<>{color:#000;}. Trans fats – also called hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils – that are abundant in most processed foods and margarines; and

*
p<>{color:#000;}. Vegetable-based oils like safflower, grape seed, corn, cottonseed, sunflower, and soybean oils.

If you want to keep it simple, just avoid foods that come out of factories. Also, be sure to read food labels and ingredients lists to see if what you’re planning to eat is Paleo-compliant!

 

Chapter 5: The Role Of Hydration And Exercise

As with any diet, there are 2 very important things you’ll need to consider: hydration and exercise. More than just being great for your health, drinking adequate amounts of water throughout the day helps you feeling full for longer, which will make you naturally eat less and achieve your desired fat loss.

While the Paleo Diet doesn’t require you to exercise regularly, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t, especially if you want to maximize your weight loss, energy increasing, and health improvement efforts. If you exercise regularly, i.e. for at least 30 minutes 3 times weekly, you will burn more calories, improve cardio vascular health, and feel more alert and energetic. That’s why even if it’s not compulsory, it’s best to consider regular exercise as such under the Paleo Diet.
