Read more Online Degrees articles: http://j.mp/29Nvnds

Did you know almost one in five students is opting for an online course in today’s world? That’s the pace in which online courses are getting popular with each passing day. While there may be a hundred reasons why online courses should be chosen by a student to meet their educational needs, one cannot run from the fact that online courses can indeed get a little expensive at times. But why so? Let us have a look at the reasons.

The specialized staff

Not everyone can prove to be a good teacher to impart knowledge to students who are sitting on the receiving end of their computer screens. Only specialized staff can do the same. Hiring such teachers can prove to be costly, which may thereby increase the cost of online classes as well.

State authorization

Internet is closely related to fraudulence as well. There are a number of online courses, which are operated by fraudsters. Therefore, state authorization is a complete must for online courses to prove they are authentic and should be trusted. Gaining the authorization from the state can also be an expensive affair.

Administrative resources

A higher degree of administrative resources are required to abide by the Federal rules and commands.

Have an access to course materials anytime

Students have the privilege to access the course materials available online at any part of the day or night, unlike in case of traditional study methods. Maintaining such records in the web portals can also prove to be costly.

Other costs are decreased

Traditional costs such as living expenses, commutation costs, food and other expenses, are also negligible when a student takes up an online course. Therefore, it is understandable when the quality education’s course fee is offered at an increased cost.

Training for teachers

The training imparted to teachers to be able to teach online without any complaints can also prove to be a costly affair. Thus the course fee is increased so that the quality of education is not compromised in any way.

A record of course materials

It is almost impossible to miss any information about your course online, because the site always maintains a record of study materials for a longer period of time, as compared to traditional education methods. Such practices can prove to be costly to maintain.

Most of the colleges are increasingly providing online courses to their students. Though you feel it is a little over-priced, you can be rest assured that they will prove to be cost-effective in future. Online courses are indeed a unique way to earn an educational degree, and will surely work magic on your CV to bag a lucrative job later.

The Heutagogical Approach of Increasing Online Learners

Read more Online Degrees articles: http://j.mp/29Nvnds

With the advent of e-learning, learning is no longer teacher-centric rather learner-centric which is more focused on increasing the learning capability and capacity of individuals. Internet has abundant amount of resource for learning new skills and we no longer have to visit a classroom for it. We can learn from anywhere and anytime with an active internet connection and supportive electronic gadgets. The process of e-learning is best described by the term Heutagogy.

Heutagogy is focusing on learner’s capability

Heutagogy- the term is coined by Stewart Hase and Chris Kenyon of Australia in 2000. It is a form of self-determined learning which challenges the ideas of pedagogy and has its principles rooted in andragogy. In this approach, autonomous learners are self-determined and self-motivated and focus is on development of learner’s capability to make them highly efficient for future complexities. Web 2.0 offers the technological environment that supports this learner-centric approach with the help of internet and social media.

The other “-gogies” of education

Pedagogy deals with the teacher-centric approach of education and is concerned about delivering high-quality and effective teaching. Teachers use various strategies in different situations in combination with different grouping of students. Children in schools are taught in this standardized curriculum approach of learning and builds a community confidence in the quality of teaching.

Andragogy moves to the learner-centric approach and addresses the specific needs of education of adults. It focuses more on realistic problems of adults and are taught in an informal environment. It focuses on autonomous and self-directed learners who have the will to study and are taught what they want.

5 heutagogical tips to keep learners coming back in future

Tip # 1: Explain the learning process

As most of the adult learners had not grown alongside computers, it will be beneficial if along with content, the learning process is also explained to them. Instructors should tell them advantages of heutagogical learning and also different strategies they can adopt for an effective learning. Learners are not self-motivated and autonomous at the beginning but as they progress, their approach towards learning becomes more mature by incorporating useful strategies.

Tip # 2: Take feedback from the learner

It is important to understand why the learner is interested in taking a particular course. It is a very crucial step as it will help in analyzing them better in future. Also if their needs become clear, they can be provided meaningful opportunities .

Tip # 3: Make asynchronous course structure

Heutagogic learners are mostly working professionals who wish to gain beneficial skills for career advancement. So, it is important that the course is asynchronous to enable them to learn from anywhere and anytime. Whether it’s their recess time or at the odd hours of night, they can learn whenever they get some free time from their busy schedule.

Tip # 4: Build short and valuable content

If the topic content is short and crisp, it becomes more effective for learners to grasp the idea quickly. Providing short and direct videos mostly within 120 seconds will enable busy learners to come back for a quick “bite”.

Tip # 5: Encourage active participation in group activities

The key thing to remember about Heutagogy is active participation from the learners. This can be done by the creation of active groups in the dashboard of learner, Live chat rooms and different events that promotes group participation. Having a supportive personal learning network will help the individual to become self-dependent and they can manage the learning process on their own.

Why Distance Education is the Need of the Hour

Read more Online Degrees articles: http://j.mp/29Nvnds

While getting a degree from a top-notch college is something every student dreams about, certain factors like transportation problems, lack of necessary funds, can restrict a student from approaching formal education. This is when distance learning education, and online courses comes to the rescue.

Especially in a developing country like India, thousands of students are mainly pursuing their post-graduation degrees, like MBA and MCA, through distance learning education, to upgrade their CVs and out of the will to be more educated.

Reasons why India needs more of distance learning

Any age limit

Distance learning education or online courses can be accessed by people of any age. Also, in-service aspirants can enroll under a distance learning or online course to upgrade their educational qualifications, which may even help them to bag a promotion.

Learn yet earn

People who are already in service, yet have the desire to study more and increase their educational qualifications can opt for distance learning courses, because of the flexibility of time offered by them. This helps them to earn as well as learn simultaneously. It all depends on your will power.

Increasing population

All the educational institutions combined may not be able to accommodate the number of students present. This is where distance education and online courses comes to their rescue. The students do not have to live with the fear of being uneducated anymore, as they can complete their studies just by having a computer and a working web connection.

Mental status

Not every student is the same. Some may suffer from social awkwardness, or may feel socially challenged due to factors like physical inability, financial status, unfavorable family situation, and so on, which may make them feel reluctant to attend a formal school. With the help of distance or online courses, they can study within the comfort of their homes without any such difficulty.

Geographical hindrance

Some remote or isolated locations can make it difficult for a student to attend schools that may be far away. They may not have the necessary funds to commute on a regular basis, or the situation may be such that they cannot stay away from their families. Online courses or distance education facilities prove to be a boon for such students.

Upgraded syllabus

Intense rigidity or high costs involved to change, often end up in syllabuses remaining unaltered in formal schools, in spite of the world and its way of working changing rapidly. However, all online courses or distance education courses are updated regularly to help the students gain the latest knowledge about technology, business environment, and so on.

Easy access and varied needs

Online courses need minimal accessories like a computer and a web connection to access it. Also there are a variety of subjects found online, and a student can choose amongst them according to his preferences and choice of study.
