I think I paid ten dollars for my tennis shoes, maybe it was only six. They were blue canvas with white soles. They were quite the fad when I was in high school, but I’d never had a pair myself.

Not everyone thought my shoes were as trendy as I did, my friends and family harassed me often when I wore them, but over the next several years my shoes took me many places.

I walked out of Corporate America in my tennis shoes, vowing never again to sacrifice my life for the almighty dollar. I put my severance to good use and took a much needed vacation. Two weeks in Spain, which were truly, the worst of times, and the best of times. My life changed forever, and my tennis shoes carried me through it all.
