Mining

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Always carry a bucket of water for the times you get too close to lava. This tip could save all of your inventory. Keep it in a hotbar slot where you can quickly access it so that if you fall into lava, you can quickly put yourself out. Even if your character ends up dying, you don’t want all of your diamond armor to burn in the flames as well.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Always bring a chest with you mining. You will run out of room! Or you can build a base at the bottom of your mine where you can store your piles of redstone and ore.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Never dig straight up. Sand or gravel can fall on you and suffocate you! If this does happen to you, try jumping up the falling sand to save your life. This is actually a glitch that you can use to your advantage.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Never dig straight down. It is extremely easy to fall directly into lava or a cave full of mobs this way. Instead, you should stand in the middle of two blocks and dig out one then the other all the way to the bottom. That way you will have a warning before you fall into anything dangerous.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Keep an anvil in your inventory or down in your mine to quickly repair your tools. It is more efficient than rebuilding with all new materials. You will go through your tools quickly too if you have an efficient mining strategy.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. When exploring a cave, always put torches to your right. This way when you get lost, (and you will get lost at some point) just follow your torches to the left to get to the exit.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Enchant your tool with silk touch to give you the entire glowstone block instead of glowstone dust. This also applies for glass blocks, enderchests, and grass blocks.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Diamonds are most frequent at levels 5 – 12. But to avoid the problem of bedrock, stay at levels 11 and 12 for fastest diamond mining. Starting at level 11 also gives you the advantage of not having lava pools fall on top of you since the top of a lava pool ends at level 11.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Diamond blocks are often found diagonally of each other. So if you find one diamond block, keep looking around to see if you can find another.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can mine quartz for quick and easy XP.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. If you need to get a high quantity of sand, don’t waste your time with a shovel. Dig to the bottom until you get to sand stone. One block below the top sandstone block, place a torch. Then, remove the top sand stone block so the sand falls on the torch. The sand blocks will all break when they fall on the torch so that you can pick them up. This also works with levers, pressure plates, flowers, etc.

Monsters

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Never run away from a creeper! Punch it in the face then run away so that it does not explode on you. With this method, they will fling backward so that you do not need to run as far.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. When you find a spawner, immediately surround it with torches before you kill the mobs so that more do not spawn. Otherwise, you will be in an endless battle and eventually die. You can later turn this spawner into an automated mob farm.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Creepers actually float 1/8 of a block above the ground. Creepy!

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Endermen do not have a shadow.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Poison will not kill the undead or spiders. Actually, it won’t kill you either unless you are in hard mode. Instead, it will bring you down to half a heart.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. If lightning strikes a creeper it will become a charged creeper. These are extremely powerful and hard to kill. Not only are their explosions twice as damaging as a regular creeper, they also have a much larger explosion radius meaning that you have to run away much faster to not be damaged.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. If a charged creeper explodes nearby other mobs, it will drop the mob heads for you to collect and place around your house like trophies.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. A blaze is not able to shoot you when it is stuck in a cobweb.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. If you attack a passive-aggressive mob group such as zombie pig men or wolves, they will all gang up on you and attack. All of the wolves will also be untamable as you can see by their eyes turning red. Once you get on their bad side, there is no fixing it.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Do you want to build a snow golem? You can do this with a couple snow blocks and a pumpkin. Snowmen will try their hardest to protect you by throwing snowballs at hostile mobs. But these snowballs will not cause damage, and will just serve as a distraction so that you can kill the mobs without being hit. Snow golems can only cause damage to blazes and the Enderdragon.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Do you want to build a wither? They are not as nice as snow golems… A wither is a tough boss to kill. You can summon one by building soul sand in a “T” shape and placing three wither skeleton skulls on top.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. A wither will drop a nether star, which is used to craft a beacon.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can only outrun a wither with a horse. Otherwise, it will catch up to you and match your speed.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Mobs will always float in water making it easy to attack them if you build a moat around your home base. This also makes it convenient for building automatic mob farms.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Want to rescue a villager from a zombie bite? You will need a splash potion and a golden apple. Throw a splash potion at the zombie then right click it with the golden apple. The zombie villager will begin to shake, and in about 3 minutes, it will transform back into a villager.

Animals

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Baby Animals do not drop food. So let them grow up first!

#
p<>{color:#000;}. To breed cows and sheep, use wheat. To breed chickens, use seeds. To breed pigs, use carrots. To breed horses, use a golden apple or a golden carrot. Rabbits can be bred with carrots, golden carrots, and dandelions.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Ocelots and wolves do not drop food. Instead, turn them into a pet.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Farming cows and pigs are best for hunger. Cooked steak and pork chops refill your hunger by 4 which is the highest of ordinary foods.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Injured horse? You can heal it with a hay bale.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. If you want to create dyed wool, dye the sheep directly instead of dying the sheared wool. It will cost fewer resources and give you more colored wool.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. If you use an invisible potion on a dog, you can still see its collar.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can put a saddle on a pig to ride it. You can also craft a carrot and stick by combining a fishing rod and a carrot to control the pig while you are riding it.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. If you shear a mooshroom, it will turn into a regular cow.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Want to make a rainbow sheep? Name your sheep “jeb_” and it will turn different colors.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can get perfectly cooked meat by setting a mob on fire. This way, you do not need to spend fuel resources to cook raw meet.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Change a dog’s collar by using dye.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. The best time to fish is when it’s raining. Just like in the real world.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Want to turn a passive mob upside down? Name the mob “Grumm” or “Dinnerbone”.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Babies will follow their mom or dad until they grow up. But a baby mooshroom will not follow its parents if you sheer them. Instead, it will follow an unrelated mooshroom.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can use a nametag to name your animal with an anvil.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Nametags can only be found in dungeon chests, abandoned mine shaft chests, caught by fishing, or by trading with villagers.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Need to transport your animal long distance? Instead of using wheat/carrots/seeds to guide them, put them in a cart and ship them away on some tracks.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can now use leads to guide your animal. To make leads, you need a slime ball and four pieces of string.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. What are you going to do with all of your zombie flesh? It will most likely poison you, so you can instead use it to heal your dog. It will not poison the dog!

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Right click a mob with a spawn egg to make a baby.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Throwing eggs can spawn chickens. There is a 1/8 chance of spawning a chicken when an egg is thrown and a 1/256 chance of spawning 4 chickens at once.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Ocelots do not take any fall damage.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Creepers are afraid of ocelots. So keep them around your house!

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Some chickens can be breed with nether warts

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Want to get extra wool? Punch the sheep 7 times then kill it with shears by pressing both the right and left mouse buttons.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can summon a zombie horse by entering the following command: /summon EntityHorse ~ ~ ~ {Type:3,Tame:1}

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Similarly, you can summon a skeleton horse by entering the following command: /summon EntityHorse ~ ~ ~ {Type:4,Tame:1}

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Passive mobs will always spawn in groups greater than 1. So if you see one cow, there are bound to be more. Keep looking!

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Ocelots can only spawn over the 65th Y coordinate. You can find them in the hill or jungle biome.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Are your animals escaping when you open the fence gate? Put a nether brick fence next to a regular wooden fence. They will not connect so you will be able to walk through, but the mobs will stay inside.

Minecraft game

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Press F3 and H to view an item code in your inventory. This is useful for cheats in the command line.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Put a stack of items into your hotbar by hovering your mouse over the stack and pressing a # key on the keyboard.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. An activated piston will make a cake disappear! But why would you want to do that? Keep your cake.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Press F3 to open the debug screen. This is especially helpful when you need to know your Y coordinate so that you can most efficiently mine for diamonds. This is how you can see your XYZ coordinates.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. There is a bug where you exit the Minecraft game while you are in free fall to avoid fall damage. When you re-enter the game, your character will not be injured.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Hostile mobs have a high chance of wearing a pumpkin or jack-o-lantern on their head on Halloween! This protects them from sunlight so they can walk around unharmed during the daylight. Scary.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Press F1 to hide the GUI.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Press F5 to view the game in 3rd person. Keep clicking to change views and return to the original 1st person view.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Press CTRL and Q to drop an entire stack at once.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. There are some extremely useful commands that you can run in your command line such as:

**
p<>{color:#000;}. /weather clear

***
p<>{color:#000;}. This will clear any thunderstorms or rain

**
p<>{color:#000;}. /gamemode s

***
p<>{color:#000;}. Puts the game into survival mode

**
p<>{color:#000;}. /gamemode c

***
p<>{color:#000;}. Puts the game into creative mode

**
p<>{color:#000;}. /seed

***
p<>{color:#000;}. Tells the world seed

**
p<>{color:#000;}. /time set day

***
p<>{color:#000;}. Turns the time to morning.

***
p<>{color:#000;}. You can also enter in a number to jump to an exact time.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Herobrine is a myth! That’s right, doesn’t exist and he never did exist. It was confirmed on twitter so it must be true.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Press F3 and B to see a mob’s hit spot. This will make it much easier to attack mobs and players.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can start a new game in debug mode by first creating a new world, selecting “More World Options” and Shift clicking the World Type until you see Debug. Once you get there, you may find blocks that don’t exist in the real Minecraft world. Check their item code, and you can use that to spawn the secret block in the real world.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Press F3 and D to clear the chat in multi player.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Want to troll another player? Have them press F3 and C to crash Minecraft to desktop.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Tap F3 and C to reload textures. (Remember, don’t crash your Minecraft game)

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Where does the Minecraft world end? After 30 MILLION blocks. What happens when you get there? Well you get kicked out of the game… underwhelming, I know.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Minecraft was originally called “Cave Game”. I like Minecraft better!

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Mojang developers actually created their own language. You can see it by looking at the enchanting table. Can you decode it?

#
p<>{color:#000;}. The creeper was actually created by accident. Notch was trying to create a pig, and the creeper was the result. He loved it so much that it stayed in the game.

Crafting

#
p<>{color:#000;}. What’s the first thing to do when you find diamonds? Don’t create armor -create a pickaxe. This will make it faster and easier to find other diamonds.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can name your chest by putting it in the anvil. For example, you could create a “weapons” or “valuables” chest.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can make your map even bigger by putting your map in the middle of your crafting table and surrounding it with paper. You can do this up to four times.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. A bucket of lava will serve as fuel for 1000 seconds, while coal only burns for 80 seconds.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. For a quick elevator, put falling water in the corner of your house then surround the remaining two open sides with chests. You can swim up with without actually getting in the water.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Tired of your boats breaking when you try to dock it? Create a dock made from soul sand. Boats will not break when they hit soul sand.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Craft four pieces of string to make a wool block if you cannot find any sheep.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Giant mushroom blocks can be used as fuel. One of the few non-wood items that can be used as fuel.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. To move more than one stack, pick up a stack, hover over another stack, press Shift and double click.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You typically can only put 2 chests next to each other and you cannot place a third. A way around this is to instead put a trapped chest next to the two other chests so that they all sit next to each other.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. The best food to eat in Minecraft is the golden apple!

#
p<>{color:#000;}. If you are short on inventory space, you can combine some materials into a block such as iron. Then stack that block instead.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Using a tool for something other than its intended purpose will double decrease the durability for each hit.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. It is often more efficient to repair items than to craft a new one. Use your anvil!

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Reverse the order of two items in an anvil to see if one way is less XP expensive than the other. It will either be less expensive or more expensive.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Combine potions with gunpowder to create a splash potion.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. For a secret stash, put a cauldron over a hopper, and a chest below the hopper. Items will fall through the cauldron and into the chest.

Farming

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Save yourself the time of running all over the place to collect different types of wood and make a tree farm. This is incredibly useful for when you are building beautiful houses.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Turned around and need help finding your base? Pumpkin stems will always point North-West.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Jungle trees cannot grow with snow next to them. Keep this in mind when creating your tree farm.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Pumpkins are harder find and more rare than diamonds!

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Put a lot of torches by your farm so that your crops can grow at night. Crops always need a light source to grow.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. To grow a giant mushroom, dig a hole two blocks down. Place Mycelium, then put a mushroom on top. Use bone meal and you get a giant mushroom tree.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Swords will break melons faster while axes will break pumpkins faster. Great for speedy farming!

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Make giant jungle trees by placing jungle saplings in 2×2 dirt area and use bone meal to grow. In older versions of Minecraft, you can use 3 oak trees and only 1 jungle tree, but this has since been patched.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Jungle trees have a maximum of 32 blocks. So if you are farming, build a structure 32 blocks high to get to the top quickly.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can use shears to pick up ferns, bushes, and leaves from a tree.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Potatoes and carrots can be found in villages. Melon and pumpkin seeds can be found in mineshafts. Zombies will also drop carrots and potatoes rarely.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. When farming, know that water will only irrigate dirt blocks four blocks away.

Survival

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Need to get a breath under water? Place a torch on a block for an air bubble. This is useful especially when you are trying to build an underwater base. It is only for a quick breath since the torch will immediately break after placing it.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. If you are in an emergency and need a breath, use an empty bucket to pick up water for a temporary air bubble. This is for when you are swimming in open water. If you are next to a solid block, you can use the above torch method.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. If you are fast enough, you can use a bucket of water to break your fall. Just place the water right before you hit the ground.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Find north by looking for the grey “L” shape in cobblestone. The long end of the “L” will always point north.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can put a pumpkin on your head (not a jack-o-lantern) so that endermen will not notice your eye contact. This is useful when going to The End so that endermen do not attach you. Keep in mind that your vision will be impaired.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Stuck in cobwebs? The fastest way to get out is to pour a bucket of water. If you don’t have a bucket of water, use your sword to cut through.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Be careful, walking on soul sand next to lava will cause fire damage.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. When you fall, you will take 1 damage for every block after the 3rd. Since each heart is 2 health points, that means that falling 23 blocks will kill you.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. For limited fall damage, push a boat off a cliff, jump in, then jump out right before you hit the ground.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Right click armor in the hot bar to quickly equip it

#
p<>{color:#000;}. When you place a torch, a radius of 7 blocks is spawn proof from hostile mobs.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Many people often think that jumping and striking causes extra damage. But actually, it is the fall after the jump that causes a critical hit. So be sure to time your jumps correctly.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. If you throw healing potions at skeletons, zombies, or zombie pigmen, it will cause damage. It will not heal them.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Clouds always travel west, so you can use them to navigate back home.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Shooting an arrow through lava will set fire to the arrow and cause extra damage.

Misc

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Trade with villagers to get enchanted weapons without using experience points. The type of enchantment, however, is a gamble!

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can also get enchanted weapons without spending experience points by picking them up from dropped hostile mobs. This weapons will be damaged.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Fun Fact – Giant mushroom blocks don’t exist in creative mode.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. To build an infinite water source, create a 2×2 hole and fill two corners with water. You will never run out! Keep this close to your base and in your mine.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. If you break an ice block that has empty space under it, there will be no result. If you break an ice block which a solid block under it, you will get water.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. If you put a sign on the front of a piston, the piston will lose its function.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can put down lava and water in a bucket, but you cannot put down milk.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Never try to sleep in the Nether or the End… bad things will happen.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can put torches on top of glass but not on the side of glass.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Want to stop the bad weather without using the command line? Just go to bed. It will disappear by morning when you wake up.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Need to collect a lot of snowballs? Push a boat through snow to break up the snow so it is ready to collect.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Lily pads destroy boats. This is very frustrating when you are moving quickly!

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Don’t want to use your gold to build a clock? Just arrange the clock in your tool bench but do not press enter. The image of the clock will show you the time.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Since we do not have lawn mowers in Minecraft, you can use a bucket of water to quickly cut down grass and collect seeds. A water bucket can also be used to break down railways quickly.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. The Super Sprint: Place a trap door over ice with a 2 block high ceiling. Sprint and jump through this for the fastest move time in Minecraft.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Press F1 while fishing to get rid of the fishing rod but leave the line for an invisible fishing rod!

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Music blocks make different sounds depending on what kind of block they are on. A wood base will create a bass guitar sound; sand, gravel, or soul sand will create a snare drum sound; glass, glass panes, or glowstone will result in clicks; various stone blocks, obsidian, netherrack or bricks will result in bass drum sounds; and finally, dirt and other blocks play a piano sound.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Pistons can move railways. With this trick, you can build a very complicated railway system.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Pressure plates can be used to contain water and lava.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. An ender chest cannot be blown up by creepers and cannot be opened by other players.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Use cactus or lava for a simple trash can. They both destroy items.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. For an easy secret entrance, cover an entrance with a painting. You cannot see an opening but you can walk through it.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can break dragon eggs on a torch or by pushing it with a piston.

Enchanting

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Put bookshelves around your enchanting table for higher effect. Having bookcase corners has no effect on the enchanting level, so feel free to skip them if you want to save resources.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Level 30 is the maximum enchanting level you can perform.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. The enchanting table is the only thing in Minecraft that can see you when you are invisible! Watch it follow you around the room.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can combine several enchanted books together with an anvil to get a more powerful enchanted book.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Gold tools are typically weak, but they are excellent for enchanting and result in a higher level enchantment.

Redstone

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Half slabs can be used to hide redstone circuits without breaking the circuit.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. If you place several redstone lamps next to each other and one of them is activated, all of them will activate.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Place a light sensor next to a redstone light to create a night light.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. Firing an arrow at a pressure plate will activate it.

#
p<>{color:#000;}. You can hide redstone circuits under carpets.
