h1=. Introduction

We are very thrilled to announce the release of the Glory & Grace Daily devotional for the month of July, 2017. The theme is “Living in God’s Presence.” These 31 devotionals will show you what it means to live in God’s presence, and how to do so.

This is such an important topic that every believer must fully understand, in order to gain a working knowledge for daily living. Our prayer is that at the end of July, you will experience the joy, the victory, and the all-round prosperity that comes from learning to live in God’s presence here and now.

God created man and placed him in the Garden of Eden. Man was to live there, in the very presence of God. Jesus has come to restore us back to a better Eden, a heavenly Garden. And He has given us His Word as a way to teach us, and train us, to live in Eden.

As a believer, you will not know any spiritual maturity, all-round prosperity, or perpetual victory without the foundation of God’s Word in your life. This is so vital. A solid devotional life of meditation in the Word and in prayer is the bedrock for building an enjoyable and fruitful relationship with God. This is why we write these devotionals, as directed by the Spirit of the Lord.

As always, these devotionals are never written simply to provide some material you can read for your Christian daily routines. We encourage you to prayerfully read and feed on the Word being shared, so that you can see results from the Word of God. May your life be enriched this month and be well watered like the Garden of the Lord!

Blessings,

Dr. Patrick & Ma Ayuk Oben

The Garden Of Eden

bq. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God . . . (Gen. 3:8 KJV)

The Garden of Eden was the place on the earth that God selected to place the man He had created, and Gen. 3:8 gives us a remarkable insight into what made the Garden of Eden special. It says, “And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day.” God’s Presence was in the Garden.

The physical location of this Garden on the earth today is of little importance to us compared to its spiritual significance. The most important single characteristic that made Eden unique was God’s Presence. The earth was sinless, and His presence was tangible and audible to Adam and Eve. Things did, of course, take a remarkable different turn after sin entered into the world. But praise the Lord for Jesus!

The work of Christ has restored man back to Eden – a better Eden! The Presence of God that made Eden distinct has come back to dwell on the earth in the Body of Christ. Remember that His Presence is really what defines Eden, and as a carrier of God’s presence on the earth you have been transplanted back to Eden.

You are in Eden right now! The Treasure of heaven, God Himself, now indwells you and you are no longer ordinary. You dwell in Eden, wherever you are, and should start flourishing like the trees of Eden!

MEDITATE

What part of the earth was Eden physically located? Gen. 2:8

What was a distinctive physical characteristic about the Garden of Eden? Gen. 2:10, 13:10

ACT ON THE WORD

If you live in Eden which is well watered, you should never run dry! Start believing and putting this Word to practice today.

PRAY

Thank the Lord for His grace in bringing you back to Eden.

Pray that your life will flourish like the trees in Eden which had an abundance of water.

GOD’S PRESENCE IS A GIFT OF GRACE

bq. And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? (Exod. 33:15-17 KJV)

Moses made the outstanding statement above that the presence of God going with the camp of Israel when they left Egypt was proof they had found grace with God. God was dwelling amongst them to give them direction and victory by His favor, and not by the good works that the Israelites had done. His Presence was a gift from God.

Adam lost God’s presence at the moment he fell into sin and was driven from the Garden of Eden. God was not far away; sin was an obstacle. If God therefore had to go with the Israelites who were sinful, it had to be by grace. Israel had found favor with God.

And the manifestation of this grace continued. He did not withdraw the pillar of cloud and fire – the representation of His presence – that gave light, direction, and protection to the people despite their multiple sins and their grumbling and complaining (Exo. 13:22). Our God is a gracious God, indeed!

This grace is full blown in the Church. His Presence, the Holy Spirit, continues to abide in the Church despite all our faults, weaknesses, and sins. God has not taken His Spirit from us. This is grace. Jesus said that when the Spirit will come, He will abide with you forever (Joh. 14:16). Praise the Lord!

MEDITATE

Why do you think Moses desperately needed God’s presence to accompany them? Did God give us His Spirit (His Presence) by grace or by merit? See Gal. 3:2.

***

ACT ON THE WORD

Your best way to express your gratitude for the gift of God’s presence is to keep sin away from your life.

PRAY

Thank the Lord for the gift of His presence and for not taking away His Spirit despite all we have done. Pray earnestly that He will help you cherish and treasure His presence.

PLANTED IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD

bq. Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God (Ps. 92:13 KJV).

The House of God is the dwelling place of God’s presence. To be planted in the House of God means to be brought into and established in God’s Presence. The Psalmist was speaking prophetically about the blessings to be enjoyed by the believer in Christ.

We are planted in the house of the Lord the day we receive Jesus into our hearts. This means we are brought into the very presence of Almighty God. And God is the One, like the Gardener of His own Garden, who does the planting!

The scripture says in Isa. 60:21, “Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.” He calls the process “my planting.” God Himself has planted us in His House. He has brought us into His presence.

This truth is so vital to understand. The believer in Christ has been brought into God’s presence. There is no more wall of separation. The veil of the temple that separated the Ark of the Covenant from the rest of the Temple was split from top to bottom when Jesus died. The way to God’s presence was then open to man perpetually through the work of Christ!

You should take hold of this truth. It should become immersed and engrained in your spirit. You have been brought into the presence of God. You are currently there, and living from there!

MEDITATE

How does God plant someone in His House? See Rom. 6:5. What happens to those who are planted in God’s presence from Ps. 92:13 above?

***

ACT ON THE WORD

If you have been planted in the House, you do not need to plant yourself anymore. You are already in! Let this consciousness fill your heart.

PRAY

Ask the Spirit to help you become aware and conscious of His presence, and give you an understanding of how to grow and begin to live fully in His presence.

Two Important Dimensions Of Living

bq. Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith (Hab. 2:4 NKJ).

Living by faith describes the life of every believer. But what does it mean “to live?” There are at least two fundamental meanings that are important to understand.

The first and foundational meaning of the verb “to live” in our context is best conveyed by the word “alive,” which contrasts it to being dead. To live means to receive life and pass from death to life. Think of Lazarus, whose body lay lifeless in the tomb. Jesus called him forth and he started to live again. This process of receiving life and moving from death to life is also what took place when Jesus came into our hearts. We received God’s life and started living spiritually.

However, the second meaning of the verb “to live” has to do with continuing to exist and manifesting that life. This is best described by the word “walk.” For instance, when you make decisions in what to say or do you are manifesting life. This is the part of living that is under your control. You choose what to say, do, or think. This dimension of living is what God wants you to surrender to Him. It is the second dimension of living that determines our experiences here on the earth.

Therefore, though every believer by birth has received eternal life and is therefore alive in God’s presence, not every one of them is living practically in that presence. Surrender fully to the control of God’s life in your spirit and begin to enjoy your full benefits as a child of God.

MEDITATE

How can you apply the two meanings discussed above to the phrase, “The just shall live by faith?”

***

ACT ON THE WORD

Be intentional towards allowing the Word of God to control your words and actions more and more.

PRAY

Ask the Spirit to assist you in putting to work the life that you received by faith when you believed. Pray that He will cause you to see practical results in your Christian life.

Practical Fellowship With God’s Presence

bq. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. (Rev. 3:20 NKJ)

Dining with Jesus, as mentioned in our scripture above, is figurative language for having fellowship with Him. It is a place of intimacy with God’s Presence.

Interestingly, the statement above was made to the believers in the Church of Laodicea. It was not made to unbelievers telling them to become saved. But the believer is brought into God’s presence the day he or she believes in Christ. So, what dimension of fellowship is Jesus referring to?

You see, despite the fact that we are brought into God’s presence in fellowship with Him at salvation, not every one of us is seeing those results practically in every day life. If you are truly in God’s presence, then you should hear His voice practically, experience His presence fully, be clothed with His glory, etc. This is not the experience of the majority of believers because so many have still not come into the place of practical fellowship.

God’s expectation is that after we receive Christ, we should mature and grow in His Presence and start living practically from there. The things we long to see – the protection, the provision, the heavenly atmosphere, hearing His voice, getting direction in life, etc. – are all the result of practical fellowship, which means living practically in God’s presence. You do not have to struggle to get into His presence. You are in it already! Rather, become mature and train yourself to live every day in His presence.

MEDITATE

What is a key to developing practical fellowship with God’s presence from Rev. 3:20 above? Can all believers develop this rich, practical fellowship with God’s presence?

ACT ON THE WORD

You train yourself in God’s presence by feeding on the Word constantly, by spending time in prayer with the Spirit, and above all by surrendering to His Presence within you. Start practicing today!

Ask the Lord to help you move to a higher level of living in His Presence as you open the door of your heart to His Word.

The Angel Of His Presence

bq. In all their affliction He was afflicted, And the Angel of His Presence saved them; In His love and in His pity He redeemed them . . . (Isa. 63:9 NKJ).

The Angel of His Presence was the angel that brought the Israelites out of Egypt and into the promised land. This angel is called the Angel of His Presence. Did you notice the “angel” is spelled with a capital “A” in the NKJ version above? This is the clue from the translators that this Angel is not an ordinary angel like Gabriel or Michael.

The context of the scripture tells us who this Angel is in Isa. 63:10-14. Verse 10 says, “But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.” This truth is repeated from verses 11 through 14, describing their interactions with the Spirit of God who was the Angel that led them through the desert. The Holy Spirit is the Angel of God’s Presence.

This does not mean that the Holy Spirit is an angel, like one of the angels in heaven, but that He is a Carrier or Messenger (the meaning of the word “angel” here) of God’s Presence in the same way that Jesus is God’s Messenger (John 10:36.) This is a scriptural language describing the Trinity to us, saying the Holy Spirit is essentially God Almighty. He is the Presence of the Father.

When we say the Presence of God dwells somewhere, the One who is really dwelling there is the Holy Spirit. God dwells in His Temple through His Spirit. See Eph. 2:22.

As the temple of God, the Angel of God’s Presence dwells within you and goes with you everywhere you go!

MEDITATE

Can you see how the Lord relates His Presence to the Spirit in Ps. 51:11?

***

ACT ON THE WORD

Develop a consciousness of God’s Presence with you today. The Holy Spirit in you is the very definition of the Presence of God.

PRAY

Thank the Lord for giving you His Spirit. Ask the Father to teach you how to develop a closer relationship with this Angel of His Presence.

You Are In The Spirit

bq. But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. (Rom. 8:9 NKJ).

Romans 8:9 above states in very clear terms that you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit. And it goes further to describe to us how God brought us into the place called “in the Spirit” by adding, “ . . . if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.” The coming of the Holy Spirit to live in the believer, which occurs at the new birth, automatically brought us into the Spirit.

Being brought into the Spirit can be compared to getting into a house where God lives. Once you get into the house, you can meet with God and talk with Him. You can receive what He gives you. God therefore “hears” what you are talking about because you are in the house, or in the Spirit.

Someone who is out of the Spirit can talk as much as they want, but God does not “hear” them because they are out of His house. God relates with us only in His Spirit.

Since you are already in the Spirit, you do not need to do anything yourself to get into the Spirit. You are in Him already. You just have to learn to walk in the Spirit as you allow the indwelling Spirit to guide your life (Gal. 5:25.)

MEDITATE

From the devotional above, when were we brought into the Spirit as believers? See Joh. 3:3-5. Why do many unsaved individuals sincerely believe that Christianity is foolishness? See 1 Cor. 2:14.

***

ACT ON THE WORD

Whenever you allow the Word to control what you do or say, you are walking in the Spirit and training yourself to be led by Him. Do the Word today!

PRAY

Thank the Lord for the gift of His Spirit. Ask the Spirit to give you a deeper understanding of how you are already in the Spirit.

SEEKING HIS FACE AND NOT HIS HANDS

bq. When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek. (Ps. 27:8 KJV)

The Lord commands us to seek His face, and the Psalmist responded and said “Thy face, LORD, will I seek!” Notice what God wants you to seek: His face. He did not say His hands or something else. But what is the difference between His face and His hands?

The face of God is used figuratively in the scriptures to represent the Presence or the very Person of God (Matt. 18:10.) However, the hand of God is used to represent His power and His works.

The Lord wants you to seek His face, to desire to know Him and draw closer in intimacy with Him. He does not want us to seek Him primarily because of some breakthrough we are looking for, or something else we need to obtain from Him. That is because people who seek God’s hand will often turn back or slow down once they obtain what they are looking for.

David said it so clearly in Ps. 103:7: “He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.” (Ps. 103:7 KJV.) Moses knew God and the people knew miracles. Despite the miracles the people saw, they all perished in the wilderness except for Joshua and Caleb.

Though trouble will often be the reason why many of us will come to God, He does not want you to seek Him only when you are in trouble. He wants you to seek His face, to know Him and be more intimate with Him

MEDITATE

Why do you think God wants you to seek His face and not His hands? See Ps. 103:7 and Matt. 6:32-33.

***

ACT ON THE WORD

Do you seek God? Do you desire to know Him? If you truly don’t, then begin by asking the Spirit to ignite a hunger in your heart to know Him.

PRAY

Ask the Lord to strengthen you to seek His face more in the days ahead than you have ever done before.

Offering Spiritual Sacrifices

bq. Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ (1 Pet. 2:5 KJV.)

The Lord has created in you a holy priesthood to offer unto Him spiritual sacrifices. This immediately teaches us that there is both natural sacrifice and spiritual sacrifice.

The priests that served in the Tabernacle or the Temple offered natural sacrifices to God. The Lord later revealed that these natural sacrifices were not really what He wanted (Heb. 10:8.) They were, indeed, only a shadow of the real sacrifices that true worshippers will offer to Him.

The priests in the Temple and the sacrifices they offered were, therefore, only a representation of you and I in Christ today, who are bringing the real, true, and spiritual sacrifices to God. Paul says in Heb. 13:15 that, “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.”

***

The spiritual sacrifices that are offered in the real Temple of God are the sacrifices of praise, worship, and thanksgiving. These spiritual sacrifices are found in your lips. In fact, the scripture that Paul refers to in Heb. 13:15 is Hosea 14:2, which says that your words are spiritual sacrifices in the same way that the young calves were natural sacrifices.

There is power in your mouth. Cultivate a habit of praising, thanking, and worshipping God constantly. As you do, you will be offering spiritual sacrifices, which are acceptable and well-pleasant in God’s eyes.

MEDITATE

What does it mean that you are a priest unto God in Christ? What is the sacrifice you have in your hands to offer to God?

***

ACT ON THE WORD

Start putting to work your priestly role in Christ! Open your mouth and give God praise. Sing unto Him a song of praise and thanksgiving.

PRAY

Ask the Spirit to help you grow in your priestly duties to God. Pray that you will get into deeper fellowship with Him as you get closer into practical fellowship with His Presence.

Naked Without Shame

bq. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed (Gen. 2:25 KJV).

The life of Adam and Eve in the Garden further teaches us what life looks like in the presence of God. They were both naked in the Garden, but were not ashamed. How could this be?

Shame is a feeling caused by our consciousness that something is wrong or just not right with us. This feeling inevitably leads to an attempt to cover ourselves. We will not want others to see and know about what we are ashamed of. Nobody wants their nakedness to be shown to everyone, so we all cover ourselves. However, Adam and Eve were both naked in the Garden and did not feel any shame.

That was because they were covered by an invisible clothing from God, and were therefore not conscious of the nakedness of their bodies. This clothing was the glory God that was found in the Garden. When sin came in, the glory fell short and shame followed. They then attempted to cover their nakedness using natural clothing made from leaves.

This has been the pattern of humanity since then: to hide our sins, weaknesses, and faults. None of us enjoy exposing our sins or weaknesses for others to know about. Sadly enough, hiding our shame has not proven to be effective but rather strangles us continually until we die silently in our hiding place.

Thank God for clothing us again in Christ! When you received Christ, you were clothed with Him. You lost sight of the nakedness you were in and became conscious of who Christ is. In Christ, our nakedness is covered and we are free from shame. Glory to God!

MEDITATE

Why are we challenged with so much fear and shame today? See Rom. 3:23.

***

ACT ON THE WORD

Trust in your Savior today and let Him take care of whatever might be causing you to hide.

Coming Into God’s Presence

bq. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need (Heb. 4:16 KJV).

The scripture above exhorts us to come into God’s throne room. The throne of grace symbolizes God’s kingly presence. We come to the throne by approaching or coming into His Presence.

Interestingly, this exhortation to “come” was not given to unbelievers but to believers who have already “come” to God. This teaches us that we come to God in two very distinct spheres:

The first is when a sinner, like the prodigal son, comes to the Father to receive salvation and be restored into God’s presence.

The second usage of the word “come” applies to believers who are already in God’s Presence and are still living on the earth right now. When we come in this manner, it is to obtain help in time of need. We come in faith, and in prayer, approaching God with our needs and knowing we have been granted an audience with Him. In this sense, we come to God again and again as many times as is necessary.

The same is true with practically fellowshipping with God. Though we are in God’s presence, we are not always practically in fellowship. We are still living in this earthen body and have to tune our focus and attention back to Him again and again to maintain practical fellowship.

You are already in God’s presence. You can therefore come as often as needed in faith and prayer to get access to wisdom, power, and provisions for your life at any time.

MEDITATE

How many times did you have to come into God’s presence at salvation? How many times can you continue to come to obtain the help you need?

***

ACT ON THE WORD

Have you gone to God yet with the need you have? If not, take it right now to the throne of grace by faith and prayer.

PRAY

Thank the Lord for access to His presence. PRAY right now for some of the needs you may be having right now.

How To Enter God’s Presence

bq. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. (Ps. 95:2 KJV)

The Psalmist in the scripture above gives us the rules for coming into God’s presence when he declares, “Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving.”

In a parallel passage, the Psalmist says, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.” (Ps. 100:4 KJV)

A praiseful, thankful, and worshipful heart will fill your life with a daily experience of God’s presence. There is a reason why we often start prayers, sometimes unconsciously, with thanksgiving and praise to God. It is because thanksgiving and praise are the offerings we carry in our hands and the agency by which we approach His presence.

The good news is that since His Spirit already dwells in us, implying that we dwell in His presence perpetually, we have been granted access to an enjoyable and pleasant communion with God’s presence. We should come into His presence without fear, to tell Him how much we appreciate what He has done for us and declare His praises with joy.

The Lord is the King of all the universe, and joy is commanded from us in His presence. The angels that stand in His presence understand the value of joy, praise, and worship. They know how to be, and live, in God’s presence.

God’s presence has now come to dwell on the earth amongst us. We therefore have to learn how to enter into, and attend to, the abiding presence of God within us.

***

MEDITATE

Why is singing especially important in entering God’s presence? Is the word “come” in Ps. 95:2 above addressed to the unsaved or to the saved? See the July 11,2017 devotional.

***

ACT ON THE WORD

God’s Word is activated when we act upon it. What can you do with the Word you just received above?

PRAY

Thank the Lord right now for access to His presence. Pray that the Spirit will teach you how to attend to God’s presence in your life.

THE GLORY SHIELD IN HIS PRESENCE

bq. And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them (Exod. 14:19 NKJ).

The Presence of the Lord served as a shield to protect His people from the enemy. This is seen in the scripture above where the Angel of God in the pillar of fire moved and stood between the Israelites and the Egyptians to protect and shield them. This wall of protection is the Glory Shield that protects God’s people.

This shield was present with Adam and Eve in the Garden. This was the invisible spiritual barrier of God’s glory around them that kept them from being hurt by anything in the environment. Do you think that before the fall, a tree could have potentially fallen on Adam by chance and hurt him? No, that would have never happened. Man was surrounded by the glory of God which protected and shielded him from every sort of harm.

The glory of God in His Presence is a shield to those who are planted in the House of the Lord. This is an added practical reason for cultivating the presence of God in your own life. It will protect and shield you. You might not even be aware of all the potential dangers or plots to hurt you because the glory is shielding you behind the scenes. Praise the Lord for His glory and presence that shields us in this hostile world.

MEDITATE

Why is that we can be hurt by nature or the things around us today? See Rom. 3:8. Can you expect and believe this shield, now that you have been re-clothed with God’s glory in Christ?

***

ACT ON THE WORD

The reason why there is no fear in His presence is because of the glory shield. Be aware of this shield around you today.

PRAY

Thank the Lord for His glory shield. Ask Him to help you grow in your knowledge and faith of His glory at work in you.

Homeless But Happy!

bq. And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed (Gen. 2:8 KJV).

Did you realize that Adam and Eve were actually homeless in the Garden? They did not have a house to live in. You may then wonder how they were protected from the rains, wild animals, and other potential dangers in the environment. This calls into question the remarkable and mysterious workings of God in providing for and meeting the needs of His people.

Adam and Eve were homeless not because they could not build a house, but because they did not need one. The essential role of a house is a dwelling place, for shelter or rest. The Lord created the man and put him to dwell in a Garden, and there was no need for a house because God Himself made special glorious provisions for all of their needs. Man had a dwelling place specially designed by God.

The necessity for a house came in once they were driven out of the Garden. Then they needed a dwelling place to rest after a day of hard work, or to be protected from harmful things in the environment. And we continue to need a house to live in to this day because of the consequences of sin.

But God has prepared a special dwelling place for us. He has brought us back to a heavenly Eden through the work of Christ. He has become our House and Refuge to hide in! We will rejoice and be glad in our new heavenly home!

MEDITATE

Why did the Garden of Eden perform all the functions of a house to Adam and Eve?

What made the Garden special? See Gen. 3:8.

***

ACT ON THE WORD

The Land Of Nod

bq. And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden (Gen. 4:16 KJV).

Nod was the name of an area in the East in the time of our early fathers. After Cain murdered his brother, Abel, he was banished from God’s presence and went to dwell in an area called the land of Nod. The word “nod” in Hebrew means “wandering.” Cain wandered away from God’s presence and dwelt in the land of Nod.

The land of Nod figuratively means the place we dwell in when we wander off from God. We can wander off from Him in the way we live. Every journey away from God’s presence is certainly going to be filled with disappointments, hurts, shame, sufferings, and regrets. The prodigal son took his trip to the land of Nod and came back in shambles, barely alive for his father to revive him. Thank God for His grace that will never reject us when we come to Him!

Sin has always hurt humanity and will forever hurt us. Every day we spend outside of God in a sinful lifestyle only adds to the baggage we will have to deal with later, including ungodly feelings such as bitterness and a refusal to forgive. Do not convince yourself to stay another day outside of God, because every day in Nod will certainly take something from you.

Do not leave God’s presence to go live in the land of Nod.

MEDITATE

The prodigal son is an example of someone who went to live in the land of Nod. See Luke 15:11-14. What other biblical examples can you think of?

ACT ON THE WORD

If by some chance you are in the land of Nod, please book your flight immediately and go home to God!

A GENERATION THAT IS HUNGRY FOR GOD’S PRESENCE

bq. And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle (Exod. 33:11 KJV).

The scripture above tell us that Moses went into the tabernacle with his servant Joshua. But when Moses came out again to speak with the people, Joshua refused to leave the tabernacle! There is the remarkable phrase which says, “but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.” Joshua was hungry for God’s presence.

We have a generation of Christians today who are just plain hungry for God’s presence. They are tired of church that is empty of God’s presence. You see, the temple was called the House of God not primarily because that was the place where worship services were held. It was because God’s presence was in it. His presence defines the House and makes it what it is. God’s presence can fill a house (Acts 2:2.)

The local church, including its building, is also called the House of God because God’s presence is in it. Have you ever entered a church building and sensed a holy presence in there? Or attended a church service and knew that was not just a gathering of Christians, but also a time of fellowship with God’s presence?

There is a generation of Christians that God is raising who are hungry for His Presence. They do not want empty churches or services, but want God’s presence in them. Let this hunger fill your hearts and you will certainly be filled (Matt. 5:6.)

MEDITATE

Why do you think Joshua did not want to come out? Have you ever been to a church service yourself and never wanted to leave? What happened?

***

ACT ON THE WORD

Take it upon yourself from today to pray for your local assembly and the church in general every day for more of God’s presence.

PRAY

Pray now for our local churches, that our gatherings together will not be merely ceremonial but filled with the presence of God.

Joy In His Presence

bq. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore (Ps. 16:11 KJV).

There is joy in the presence of God. If we are therefore in need of joy, we now know where to find it! People might sometimes look for joy in the wrong places, and end up disappointed because what initially appeared to the “the real thing” later fades away as its emptiness becomes revealed.

We cannot find true and lasting joy outside of God. This is because joy is a heart virtue that comes from God’s presence. And like every other heart virtue, it is not directly under our human control – at least, not to make it.

You can choose to work hard and earn more money. You can choose a neighborhood to live in or what type of car to drive. These are choices you have under your direct control. However, heart virtues, including joy, are not under our direct control. If we could get joy the way we can decide to work hard and get more money, many hardworking or rich individuals would always be full of so much joy. But this is clearly not the case for many of such individuals.

True joy is planted as a seed in the ground of man’s heart. Godly joy begins when we find Jesus as our Savior and are therefore brought into reconciliation with God. And that joy continues when we continue, as Christians, to live in God’s presence. For example, when you fellowship with God in the Word and in prayer, you discover that your heart becomes full with joy. Joy comes from the presence of God!

MEDITATE

What is the difference between the true joy that comes from God and the joy that comes from the world? See Heb. 11:25.

***

ACT ON THE WORD

If you are a child of God, there is a seed of joy in your heart. Cultivate that seed and learn to rejoice always in His presence.

Thank the Lord for making us joyful, happy people! Ask the Spirit to help you learn how to nurture the seed of joy to be a fruit everyday.

Flourishing In God’s Presence

bq. The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon (Ps. 92:12 KJV).

The scripture above makes it clear that the believer, who is God’s righteous one in Christ, has been destined to flourish in life like a palm tree. The metaphor used to convey the idea of flourishing is that of a tree planted beside an abundantly flowing river. Such a tree grows vigorously, has healthy leaves, and produces fruits every season.

God says in the scripture above that the righteous shall flourish like the palm tree. He compares your life to that of the tree. Your leaves represent the overall state of health of your body, soul, and spirit. Green leaves represent good physical and emotional health. Christ has promised a flourishing life for you, which implies that He has brought healing and health to you because you are planted beside the river of living water.

The fruit of the tree represents the works of your hands and the paths of your feet. The works of your hands include the things you do, such as your business, job, family, endeavors, etc. The paths of your feet involve your ways in life, dealing more with your attitudes, behaviors, or manner of life. The Lord says the works of your hands and the paths of your feet will flourish and become prosperous and successful.

Green leaves and abundant fruit are what scripture calls “good success” (Jos. 1:8.) You were created to flourish!

MEDITATE

What sometimes causes trees to wither and become dry rather than flourish? How does this apply to your life?

***

ACT ON THE WORD

What should you do if you are not seeing flourishing in an area of your life? Get revelation from the Word, believe it, and start doing it or living it. It is that simple, and you will certainly see results.

HEALTHY AND VIBRANT IN HIS PRESENCE

bq. Forty years You sustained them in the wilderness; They lacked nothing; Their clothes did not wear out And their feet did not swell (Neh. 9:21 NKJ).

The Lord carried Israel through the desert for 40 years, and not only did they not lack anything but “their feet did not swell.” This means there was no sickness amongst them, despite moving from place to place in a desert. God was their health and healing.

Moses speaking in Deuteronomy 2:7 gives us the secret for this supernatural health and says, “For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.” The reason for that was “the LORD thy God hath been with thee.” God’s presence was with them.

Whatever the Israelites enjoyed under the Old Covenant only foreshadowed the fullness for those who will be in Christ, whether Jews or gentiles. If the fullness of God’s presence is with us today, then we should have better things than they did. We are the spiritual seed of Abraham, a people of faith. It will be unto us according to our faith. If you can get this revelation into your spirit and have your heart take hold of it by faith, you will see it manifested.

There is a tremendous promise of health and vitality for you in the presence of God.

MEDITATE

Was this supernatural health in the desert the same as divine healing when they got sick? Or was it that God supernaturally kept diseases from them and even healed them before any disease shows up in their bodies?

ACT ON THE WORD

Provisions In God’s Presence

bq. For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing (Deut. 2:7 KJV).

Moses made the remarkable statement above to the Israelites and said, “ . . . these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.” Yes, you read it right. They lacked nothing for 40 years in a desert!

The Lord wants us to trust completely in His ability to provide for all of our needs. Your trust in God’s provision is His antidote in your life against anxiety and worry. In fact, whenever we worry about our needs in life we are declaring our lack of trust in God’s ability to provide for us. Worry is the voice of unbelief and distrust in God’s providence in our lives.

His providence is not only limited to spiritual things. He is able to meet all our needs, both spiritual and physical. Some Christians find it easy to believe that God forgives their sins, but quite hard to believe that God can make provision to care for their financial needs.

The scripture above reminds us that our God is able to meet every need, in any place and for any duration of time. If He did it for at least two million Jews who left Egypt for a desert in the middle of nowhere and stayed there for 40 years, then He will certainly meet your needs today.

MEDITATE

What are the two most important physical needs for anyone in a dry desert? How did God make provision for these needs while the Israelites journeyed in the desert?

***

ACT ON THE WORD

There is no greater evidence of telling God that we trust Him than to cease worrying. Do the Word today, and “be anxious for nothing” (Phil. 4:6.)

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE DESPISE THE WORD?

bq. Those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, Bound in affliction and irons – Because they rebelled against the words of God, And despised the counsel of the Most High (Ps. 107:10-11 NKJ).

Despising the Word means knowing what God has commanded us to do, but choosing rather to do what we want for whatever reason. That will bring darkness and death, as the Psalmist above teaches us.

This attitude places the Word of God very low on our value system, which is why it is called a despise. It means something else is more important to us that what God has said. This is not only a tragic error but is never a good idea in any circumstances we face.

Adam will have volumes of books to write to us about this. Adam despised the Word once, and it has taken God close to 6,000 years and the sacrifice of Himself to fix the error. We might not realize it but whenever we disobey God’s Word, and do or say the things we want instead, the tragic error of Adam is again repeated – though we do not carry the high stakes that he carried.

Despising also means rejecting the Word. Since the Word of God is light and life, rejecting it means inviting darkness and death to ourselves as we see in the verse above. Darkness and death are a combination that represents things that cause suffering, grief, and hurt to humanity in all spheres.

Do not despise God’s Word. Rather, pay attention to ordering your mind, words, and actions by what He has said and you will enjoy light and life.

MEDITATION

What are some everyday examples of us despising the Word? Especially look for examples that are easy for us to miss because they seem to be “part of human life.” One example is worry (Phil. 4:6.)

Shekinah Resides In You

bq. And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night (Exod. 13:21 KJV).

Shekinah is a Hebrew word that Jewish Rabbis used to describe the visible manifestation of God’s presence dwelling on the earth.

The scripture above gives us the most remarkable of experiences in the Old Testament. The Israelites saw a pillar of cloud during the day and a pillar of fire at night. How cool is that! But it has gotten even better for the believer in Christ. Shekinah now lives in the believer!

This truth is critical to understand. It will change your perspective of who you are in Christ and of the wonders of our inheritance in Christ.

The cloud that the Israelites saw – the fire, the light – was physical proof of God’s presence that was with them in the camp. When Jesus came as flesh and blood, He was a visible manifestation of God’s presence( Shekinah) to the people (John 1:14.) However, because the Spirit had not yet come, they could not see the glory.

When the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost, that was Shekinah that returned to earth, this time indwelling the believers. The Church and the individual became the visible manifestation of God’s glory on the earth.

Trust me, we have better things in Christ than seeing a physical pillar of cloud! You do not need to see some fire, a cloud, or light to know that the glory of God is on the earth. You are that light. You are that fire. It is you that the people around you will see! Shekinah dwells in you, so shine forth His glory!

MEDITATE

What is a key function of Shekinah dwelling in us as seen in Exo. 13:21 above?

Freedom In His Presence

bq. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Cor. 3:17 KJV).

The Spirit of the Lord is God’s Presence. God and bondage do not dwell together. Wherever God is present, freedom from all forms of oppression must be experienced. We find complete and total liberty in God’s presence.

In the scripture above, Paul the Apostle was addressing freedom from the bondage of the law. However, this freedom extends to every aspect of our lives. Sin and Satan are masters of the enslavement and suffering of humanity.

Every single aspect of human suffering and grief in life can be traced back to sin, and to the lord of death who is the devil (Heb. 2:14.) The Spirit of the Lord in the believer brings total and complete freedom from every bondage resulting from sin and satanic oppression.

Bondage causes us to be brought under the control of something that causes pain and anguish, but does not allow us the freedom to opt out. We may want to opt out, but it overpowers us and we are utterly helpless under its oppressive hands.

Every one of us will immediately want to opt out of terminal cancer. But do we have the power in ourselves to do so? Have you ever met someone who is literally enslaved and harassed by addiction to a substance? That person is in agony and wants to opt out, yet they find themselves completely helpless.

This is because freedom requires power to set you free from your oppressor. The Holy Spirit has come with the power to set you free from all forms of oppression in your life.

MEDITATE

Why is there freedom wherever the Spirit of God is? See Acts 1:8.

ACT ON THE WORD

From the discussion about bondage above, do you see yourself in bondage in any aspect of your life? The Spirit is your ticket to complete freedom. Put your faith to work!

Sinking In God’s Presence

bq. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me (Matt. 14:29-30 KJV).

The passage above is the famous story of Peter walking on water. However, when he saw the waves, he began to sink in the presence of Jesus. Jesus had to rescue him immediately by using physical means (Matt. 14:31 KJV.)

Jesus cited doubt as the reason for the failure. Peter had little faith, and he doubted. Doubt is a silent destroyer amongst the believers. It is deadly because it is subtle and easily missed. Jesus did not say that Peter’s problem was unbelief. He said that his problem was doubt. Peter had faith and walked on the water initially. His faith did not leave him when he started sinking. It only got mixed up with doubt.

Ever heard someone say, “I knew I really believed God,” but wonder why they did not get the results they wanted? Faith has to be pure and alone to work. Doubt is a divided heart, believing God and also believing in something else.

Peter believed Jesus’ word to “come” but also believed, as an experienced fisherman, that the waves he saw could potentially kill him. His heart was divided. Doubt is drowning many in the Church who believe, but with divided hearts.

Doubt will make you sink even though you are filled with the Holy Spirit. Feed and grow your faith by the word, and move from little faith to great faith.

MEDITATION

Did Jesus also see the waves? Why did Jesus not sink?

ACT ON THE WORD

If you are not seeing the results of faith that you want, even while knowing you have truly believed, check for doubt. If doubt is present, deal with it by feeding voraciously on God’s Word.

THE SECRET PLACE OF THE MOST HIGH

bq. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (Ps. 91:1 NKJ)

God has a secret place, and anyone who dwells or lives in that place will be under God’s protection and preservation. From the moment God made man, He always prepared a place for the man to live in.

The Garden of Eden was Adam’s dwelling place. God still has a dwelling place for us to live in today. The Garden He has placed us in is even more beautiful than the Garden of Eden, and far exceeds it.

In the same chapter above, the Psalmist gave us a remarkable insight into what this dwelling place is. He says in verse 9 “Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge,Even the Most High, your dwelling place”(Ps. 91:9 NKJ).

The secret place turns out to not be a physical place such as a house or a city. It is a Person, and that is God Himself. God is the Dwelling Place.

This is the Dwelling Place we call, “in Christ!” The Apostle John says, “ . . . and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.” (1 Jn. 4:16 KJV)

Christ is our Dwelling Place through Whom we dwell in God (Col. 3:3.) You are dwelling right now in God’s Secret Place, which is Christ. You are entitled to be sheltered under the shadow of the Almighty God. Praise the Lord for our inheritance in Christ!

MEDITATE

Think of two implications of abiding under the shadow of the Almighty. How can we practically dwell in God from what Apostle John said in 1 Jn. 4:16 above?

Practicing The Presence Of God

bq. And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves (Matt. 21:13 KJV).

Prayer is your key to enjoying, knowing, and experiencing the presence of God. It is the practical outworking of living His presence.

Jesus said in our verse above that God’s House shall be called the house of prayer. God’s House is the dwelling place of His Presence, and that House is you and me in Christ. Jesus is telling us that our very life, day by day, will be a life of prayer.

This does not mean we will do nothing other than stay in our private place of prayer all day long. Prayer is essentially talking with God and this is the KEY to practicing God’s presence. When you talk with God, you speak to Him and He speaks to you. It is a two-way communication.

This is how we put God’s presence to work practically in our lives, by communicating with Him. This is not only the highest form of prayer but is the very essence of what prayer is all about.

Do everything within your power to train yourself to commune with God constantly all day, no matter where you are. It is not hard. It just takes practice. By doing this, you will be building the consciousness of God’s presence in you.

MEDITATE

Why do you think there is so much pressure to quench or silence our prayer lives? Does Satan know something about prayer which many of us still do not know?

***

ACT ON THE WORD

Do two simple things today. First, make sure you set aside time to seek God in private prayer. Second, stay in prayer all day as you train yourself to learn to talk with God. It might be as simple as just saying, “Lord, I thank you for Jesus,” during the day.

PRAY

Ask the Spirit to help you develop not only your personal private prayer time, but also the all-day-long habit of talking with God.

Abide In Me

bq. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me (Jn. 15:4 KJV).

Jesus commands us in the verse above to abide in Him if we are to be fruitful. Jesus is the Vine and we are the branches. If a branch is to bear any fruit, it must remain attached to the vine. We abide by remaining, or continuing, in Christ.

We all want fruits. Healing is a fruit. Financial prosperity is a fruit. Joy is a fruit, as are righteousness, love, and peace. A Christian can be abundantly fruitful, or entirely barren, or anywhere in between.

The secret of fruitfulness in our life is given to us right here by Jesus Himself with the words, “abide in Me.” Do not bother yourself with how the healing, joy, prosperity, peace, etc. will work out. If you abide, you will see the fruits.

Abiding in Christ as described above is not the same thing as becoming a Christian. The instruction to abide is not to unbelievers, but to believers. It essentially means remaining or continuing to be where you have been placed, or continuing to walk on the road you have been put on.

When you guide your thoughts, actions, and words by the Word, you are abiding in Christ. If we are anxious, for example, we are out of the Word, for the Word clearly tells us to not be anxious. When we are bitter, we are out of the Word. When we curse, slander, hate, etc., and do things that are against the Word, we are no longer abiding in Him. We abide by surrendering to the control of the Word through which the Spirit operates in our lives.

MEDITATE

Why does a branch need to abide in the tree to bear fruit?

Thou Art With Me

bq. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me (Ps. 23:4 KJV).

David had come to the point of knowing fully that God was with him. He could boldly declare that even though he traveled through fear-provoking valleys in his life, which he actually did, he would not fear any evil because he knew God was with him.

David had come to know and believe in the abiding presence of God with him. He did not have to see a pillar of cloud during the day or of fire during the night, as the Israelites saw in the desert, to be sure God was with him. He had come to know and to believe that God was certainly with him to protect and guide him.

This should not surprise you, but God is more with you today that He was with David. The prophets of old, including David, longed to live in these days we are living in, where the Spirit of God now lives in the believer. It does not get any better than this! If God was with David, He is more present with you today.

God’s abiding presence does not need to be manifested. You should not wait to see an angel in your house, a halo of fire around your head, or a cloud filling your home for you to know that He is with you. You are a child of faith. Faith activates, cultivates, and unleashes the presence of God in you. You can confidently declare to the Lord today and say, “ Thou art with me!”

Why do we have to believe in God’s presence to see any results? See Heb. 4:1-2.

Growing In God’s Presence

bq. And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him (Lk. 2:40 NKJ).

The scripture above gives us a description of the spiritual and physical growth of Jesus. He grew in stature and became strong in spirit. And He adds this insightful clause that “the grace of God was upon Him.” This essentially means growing under an open heaven, or in God’s presence. The prophet Isaiah described this as, “He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant” (Isa. 53:2.)

God wants you to grow and develop to maturity in His presence. When we fail to grow, we will be unable to exercise the faculties of our spirit man, just as newborns are unable to use their hands though they actually have them.

Have you ever wanted to believe a passage, but realize you just cannot? Or have you ever tried to “rejoice always” and realize that you just cannot seem to muster the strength to do so? These are examples of what a weak spirit (heart) is. It is unable to do or be what God has said it should do or be.

I find many believers struggling with their faith. Some try to “talk themselves into believing.” You do not need any spiritual drama or gymnastics to manipulate your heart into believing. Just obey and do what God asks you to do.

And this is the commandment: “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” (1 Pet. 2:2 KJV.) You do not need to force your heart to believe. Put God’s Word in there and faith will erupt. Grow in God’s presence by eating manna daily.

A Chosen Generation

bq. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light (1 Pet. 2:9 KJV).

The Spirit of the Lord calls us a chosen generation in Christ. And He continues further in the verse to give more descriptions about this generation of men that is so special.

The distinction should be made from here between our choice and God’s choice. This verse is not saying we chose God and became a special people. It is not our choice, but God’s choice. Jesus said “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you” (Jn. 15:16 KJV.) God chose us amongst all the billions of humans that will live on the earth to belong to Him. He had options, but selected us.

This generation that God has chosen is a special and peculiar kind of people that the earth has never seen before. They are a new spiritual species of humanity, the heavenly man, created in the very holiness and righteous of God to be the full expression of God’s glory on the earth. These are a people that are one of a kind. There has never been a people like them and there will never be another one.

Humanity caring divinity, the indwelling Holy Spirit is beyond human comprehension. You are a wonder on the earth (Ps. 71:7.) You are God’s choice. You are a child of God, indeed!

MEDITATE

What does it mean to “shew forth” the praises of God? How do we do that in real day-to-day life? See Matt. 5:14-16. Open your mouth and declare out that “I am a chosen generation, God’s choice in Christ Jesus.”

Wilderness To A Garden

bq. He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings(Ps. 107:35 KJV).

The Lord is an Expert in turning a dry wilderness (desert) into pools of water. When Adam went out of the Garden of Eden, which was well watered, he entered into a wilderness. A wilderness is a place where we live without God’s presence. It is a place where there is no way (Ps. 107:40) and no water (Isa. 50:2.) Life in the wilderness is full of dryness, toiling, afflictions, and struggles. It is a place where there is no divine help. God turns the wilderness into a pool of water for us.

We left the wilderness forever the day we drank the Water of Life by believing in Christ. The Holy Spirit came and dwelt inside us, and all the thirst, hunger, searching, and feelings of eternal doom were forever quenched. However, God wants us to see that switch from the wilderness to the Garden in our daily lives.

There are moments in life when we find ourselves in the wilderness in our spiritual lives, relationships, health, finances, etc. These are situations in life that bring the wilderness experience to us. However, there is hope that every wilderness in our lives can become a spring of water.

The river of life resides inside of you, and you need only drink continually from there to water every desert in your life. This is done by putting God’s Word to work in your life.

MEDITATE

What are some of the reasons why we can find ourselves in a wilderness? Can you SEE that it is possible for your own wilderness to turn into a spring of water?

h1=. About Glory & Grace Daily

Glory & Grace Daily Devotionals was conceived in 2015 at the inspiration and direction of the Spirit to provide daily quality spiritual food to feed the House of God. It was born out of the firm recognition that the believer truly needs ONE THING only to succeed, which is the Word of God ( Luke 10:42.) If believers will truly take the Word into their spirit, it will produce all other things, including all spiritual and physical blessings. But how many believers truly believe this?

These devotionals do  not seek to do all things. The main purpose is to assist the believer to feed on snippets of truths daily, taking the Word into their hearts to trigger the activity of the Spirit in their lives. When God’s Word is taken into the heart, and acted on by faith, the Spirit is unleashed. And that is all you need to gain the mystery over all the circumstances of life.

It is far from our intention to be vaguely positively inspiring, or to be some daily life coach. We are not seeking to merely  develop a   positive attitude or thinking in you. Rather, we seek to get tiny bits of the Truth of the Word into your spirit that will unleash divine power in your life. Our honest desire is that you will soon outgrow the need for constantly using this devotional, that as you grow to maturity you will begin to sense the leading of the Spirit daily to know what to feed on for yourself.

Glory & Grace Daily is published monthly  to provide daily insights from the Word to feed on. Do not miss next month’s issue! It will have “The 30 Days Series,” which produces daily devotionals with carefully chosen insights to deal with specific challenges such as depression, disease, addiction, sexual lusts, fear, etc. We are currently expanding The 30 Days Series to include more and more titles.

Our prayer is that you do not just read these devotionals, but feed on them. The Word of God that works for you is the Word that is in your spirit (heart,) and feeding is the process of taking the Word into your heart. God’s Word is powerful, and there is nothing known or unknown that comes close to its ability to transform and change your life.
