Face Off with Sinusitis and Bronchitis Pain

Read more Home Remedies articles: http://j.mp/29NuH7V

Sinuses are the open spaces inside the face and around the nose. Their job is to supply mucus to flush nasal passages clear. Sometimes they can become irritated and infected. This means pain. Sometimes this can be just for a few days to weeks, but other times it can linger for years. The sinuses are difficult to treat. After all, they are an internal part of the skull only accessible through the nose. There are some things we can do at home to make things better.

Humidity Helps

Have a humidifier in your home, especially in rooms where you spend a lot of time. The bedroom might be a perfect place. Modern heating and air conditioning systems can make air dry. A humidifier can replace dry air with some moisture to soothe. It is essential that you keep the humidifier clean so that the apparatus does not simply become a source of mold.

Steam Vapors Lower Congestion

Steam vapor improves congestion and inflammation. Fill a bowl with very warm water. Drape a bath towel over your head and lean over the bowl. The towel forms a personal steam sauna. Let the vapors soften and clear nasal passages as you breathe normally. For added benefit, a few drops of eucalyptus or peppermint oil could be added to the bowl.

Rest Arrests the Problem

Your body can do much by itself if you give it a chance. Make sure you get enough restorative sleep. Consider having a day of light activity. Read a book or listen to music. Some light exercises, such as a brisk walk, for 20 minutes can help prepare your body for sleep. When you sleep, make sure you elevate your head with an additional pillow to allow the nose and nasal passages to drain.

Increase Fluids

Drink more beverages to increase the fluids in your body. Extra fluids mean your body can flush problems away with mucus. Drink extra pure water or fruit juices. Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol as they are more dehydrative and can irritate sinuses. Alternatively, drink some warm herbal tea. The hot tea will be soothing for its steam while you are increasing fluids.

Wet Towels can be Good

No one wants to try to use a damp towel after a shower. However, here a damp cloth can be a good thing. A towel dampened with warm water should be placed on the face around the eyes, cheeks, and nose. The warmth and dampness can ease pain and bring relief.

Nasal Lavage

Flush nasal passages with clean, pure water. The water must be sterile – use distilled water. Mix one teaspoon of non-iodized salt to two cups of distilled water. Lean over the sink or stand in the bathtub. Turn your head and allow the water to flow into one side of the nose and then out the other. You can use a syringe for this purpose. It is critical to clean and rinse the apparatus after each use and let its air dry completely before employing it again.

Keep Away from Irritants

It sounds simple but just keeping out of harm’s way can be of great benefit. Minimize contact with people who have colds. Wash your hands frequently throughout the day with soap and water. Stay away from air polluted with cigarette smoke or excessive cologne. If you have allergies, avoid the items that trigger your allergy attacks.

Cayenne Can

Cayenne peppers have a natural ingredient, capsaicin, which works as a painkiller and reduces congestion. Mix one teaspoon of cayenne pepper to one teaspoon of honey. Swallow this several times a day. Another option is to add one teaspoon of powdered cayenne pepper to one cup of hot water. Drink this three times a day. You can stir in some honey to the cup sweeten it.

Horseradish Healing

Horseradish can be used to stimulate mucus flow. Freshly grate some horseradish. Place a pinch of the gratings in your mouth and hold it there until the flavor becomes bland. Repeat this several times a day.

Improve your Health with These Tonics

Read more Home Remedies articles: http://j.mp/29NuH7V

Of course, everyone wants better health. The question is: how to get that? One way is to make sure your diet includes an extra push of ingredients that fight infection and improve health. Some ingredients known for this are honey, garlic, and apple cider. These ingredients combined or also in other combinations can be used to stimulate your system.

Garlic & Vinegar Together

The first tonic to consider is a mixture of just two of these items: garlic and apple cider vinegar. This tonic is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine practices. Start with a high-quality apple cider vinegar.

You may substitute rice vinegar in a pinch. Select garlic with a purple skin. Peel the garlic cloves and then mash them. Add enough vinegar so that the garlic and vinegar are a one to one ratio. Mix and pour into a glass jar. Close the jar tightly and store in a cool, dark place for at least two weeks.

You can keep the tonic for a long time as long as it remains stored in a cool, dark place in a well-sealed jar. After one month, the garlic can be strained out. For health maintenance, take one teaspoon after each meal. The tonic could also be used on salads or noodles, but avoid heating it as that will remove the garlic’s medicinal properties.

With Some Lemon

This tonic combines all three ingredients of apple cider vinegar, honey, garlic, and some lemon juice. First, take 10-12 cloves of garlic, peel and mash them. Simmer the mashed garlic in one and a half cups of pure water for ten minutes. Strain the garlic out. Stir in one-quarter cup of apple cider vinegar.

Then add the juice from one lemon and four tablespoons of honey. Stir well. Store it in a glass jar with a tight lid. It can keep in the refrigerator for up to five days. Drink some two to three times a day.

Just us three

This tonic combines just the basic three. Place 8 peeled garlic cloves, one cup apple cider vinegar, and one cup honey in a bowl. Combine them all together. Add two tablespoons to a glass of water or juice. Drink first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. This tonic will keep for up to five days. Be sure to store it in a jar with a tightly fitting lid. Store it in the refrigerator.

And with Some Ginger

Select eight cloves of garlic. Peel them. Choose a small piece of ginger and peel it. Place both items in a blender and grind them until they are fine. Add one cup apple cider vinegar and one cup of honey to the blender. Mix for a further thirty seconds. Pour into a sealable glass jar and refrigerate. Stir the mixture once daily. It will be ready to use after five days. To use, mix two teaspoons into a glass of water or juice. Drink first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

Cayenne Pepper will Spice Things up

Peel eight cloves of garlic. Select a small- to medium-sized cayenne pepper. Place both items in a blender and puree them until they are fine. Add one cup apple cider vinegar and one cup of honey to the blender. Mix for a further fifteen seconds. Pour into a sealable glass jar and refrigerate. The tonic will be ready to use after five days. Stir daily to help keep it fresh. To use, mix one to two teaspoons into a glass of water or juice. This should be the first thing you eat or drink in the morning.

Two will do

Combine one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with one tablespoon raw honey. Dissolve into one glass of water. Drink twice daily. The simplicity of this tonic is such that it should be made fresh each time you plan to use it.

Some Cinnamon Please

Another tonic combines the power of apple cider vinegar with cinnamon. This tonic is meant to be taken a half-hour before meals. In a medium-size glass of clean water, add three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with one teaspoon of powdered cinnamon. Drink three to five times daily. One tablespoon of honey may be optionally added.

Mixed with Green Tea for Vitality

Mix one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to one teaspoon of honey. Add this to a freshly brewed cup of hot green tea.   Drink the hot tea. You should consume this four to six times daily.

Honey Garlic for Health

Take one head of garlic and peel all the garlic cloves inside. Crush the garlic cloves and let them rest for fifteen minutes. Place into a sealable glass jar and pour in enough honey to cover all the garlic. Put the lid on the jar and let it rest on the kitchen counter for five days.

After five days, move it to the refrigerator to keep it cold. When you start to feel a head cold coming on, simply use a spoon and eat one of the cloves of honey-covered garlic right from the jar. Eat the honey, garlic, and all. Alternately, you could use this to spice up a salad dish.

Hemorrhoids Home Treatment Options

Read more Home Remedies articles: http://j.mp/29NuH7V

Hemorrhoids, also known as Piles, come from stressed veins in the buttocks. Sometimes these come from straining during bowel movements, or also from pregnancy. They are a common condition particularly in people over age fifty. Some of the symptoms of these are burning, itching, pain when you sit, and the feeling that a bowel movement is ready to happen. There are a number of treatment options that can be implemented right at home.

Witch Hazel can Numb Discomfort

Witch Hazel is an astringent. Applied topically, it can numb pain and discomfort. It can also help reduce blood vessel swelling. Just take a cotton ball or cotton pad and soak up some witch hazel. Gently dab the witch hazel on and around the affected area. Apply the witch hazel twice daily or as needed by conditions.

Soak Regularly in Soothing Water

Two to three times a day, allow your buttocks area to soak in warm pure water. Use plain, clean water without any soaps or perfumes added. The warm water soak will relax tense muscles and provide comfort and relief. A “sitz bath” can be found at most drug stores which will allow for quick soaking of just the anal area.

Cleanliness Cuts Down on Problems

Be sure to keep the anal area clean. Shower daily or bathe in the tub. Use warm water to gently rinse the affected area. Soaps and perfumes can only irritate the problem. To dry, use a hair dryer or simply air dry. The rubbing of a towel can aggravate the condition.

Avoid Dry Toilet Tissue

After a bowel movement, rubbing with dry toilet tissue will only irritate the problem. Instead, use a moist towelette or damp toilet tissue. Whatever damp option you choose, be sure to avoid items that contain alcohol or perfumes as those will further irritate the situation.

Coldness can Soothe

Use an ice pack or a cold compress. The ice will reduce the swelling and cause blood vessels to constrict. This reduces the hemorrhoid problem. Place ice in a plastic bag and wrap the bag with a thin cloth. [*Apply the ice pack to the troublesome spots.  *] Repeat several times a day as needed. The cold can provide immediate relief.

A Proper Diet can Ease Things

The proper diet can soften stools and help you avoid straining during bowel movements. Increase fiber by eating more beans, whole-grain bread, fresh fruit, cereals, and fresh vegetables. Be sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and keep stools soft. Drink eight to ten glasses of water daily. Another option is prune juice which works as a natural laxative.

Exercise for a Good Exit

Incorporate some light exercise daily into your plans. A brisk walk of twenty minutes is all that is needed. The exercise will help your body to prepare bowel movements. It will bring an overall improvement in your health as well.

Watch the Time

Be aware of your time sitting on the toilet. If a bowel movement is not ready, then just stop and wait until later. Do no strain and push to make something happen. Develop the habit to go at about the same time daily. Another option is to raise your feet with a footstool when you are on the toilet. Your raised feet changes the angles of your internal workings. It might make using the toilet easier.

Don’t Hold Back

When your body shows signs that it is time for a bowel movement, then indulge it. Don’t force it to hold in. The straining can exacerbate hemorrhoids. In addition, holding it could lead to later constipation which can only aggravate the hemorrhoid situation.

Mirror, Mirror – Who’s the Fairest of All

Read more Home Remedies articles: http://j.mp/29NuH7V

Although aging an unavoidable, natural process, there is no reason that you can’t look your best. There are steps you can do to look and feel more youthful. It is important to start as early as possible as prevention is better than trying to rectify a situation afterward.

Protect Yourself from Brother Sun

The sun rays can feel warm and good, but they will age your skin and increase your risk of skin cancer. Wear sunscreen of at least SPF 15. Seek shade during the peak hours of 10 am to 2 pm; the time the sun is at its height and strongest. Cover up with clothing that keeps the sun’s rays off of you.

Avoid Smoking

Smoking not only damages and discolors the appearance of skin, but also reduces the elasticity and muscle tone of facial muscles. In addition, the facial movements needed for smoking -- such as pursing your lips -- will go a long way towards increasing wrinkles. Stop smoking to reduce the onset of aging.

Gentle Skin Care is Best

Pay attention to how you treat your skin. Long showers and bath can remove natural protective oils. Harsh soaps can also lead to more harm than good.   When you shave, use a lubricant and a clean razor. Pat your skin dry at the end of your regimen. If your skin is dry, considering using a moisturizer.

A Healthy Diet Promotes Healthy Skin

Not only does a good diet help you feel your best, but it also can help you look your best. Be sure to have a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean sources of protein. A diet that has abundant vitamin C and few unhealthy fats and refined carbohydrates will promote vibrant, younger-looking skin. Avoid sugar-laden foods that will cause blood sugar levels to spike.

Keep Stress under Control

A life filled with stress harms your health and also can make you prematurely age. Work to keep your stress under control. Consider getting trained in breathing exercises, yoga, or tai chi. The movements can help you direct your stress to a healthy channel and reduce stress over all. This leads to a better life along with a better looking you.

Magnificent Magnesium

Magnesium is essential for our body’s many systems. It is also more difficult to absorb as we get older. Increasing your magnesium will lead to increased energy levels, better skin, and raised libido. Add some magnesium-rich foods to your diet such as brown rice, almonds, peanuts, and wheat germ.

Hello Berries; Bye-Bye Aging

Some studies have shown that eating berries such as blueberries, cranberries, strawberries, or raspberries will help with aging. These berries are jammed full of antioxidants. Choose organic berries to receive the best benefit. Have a berry serving daily. You can add them to salads, make a smoothie, or just a handful as a snack.

Restorative Rest Reduces Wrinkles

Look your best by not looking tired. Adults need seven to eight hours of sleep per night. During sleep, the body rejuvenates and repairs itself. To help you get the best sleep, have a proper mattress, avoid caffeine or alcohol before bed, and take a warm shower to relax and prepare for sleep.

Stay Hydrated

Nothing increases an aged-look more than a body running on too little water. Make sure you drink plenty of clean, pure water daily. That means seven cups or more of water. Not only will the water help your skin, but it will lead to more health digestion too. In addition to pure water, you can also try teas and juice for their water content.

Clearing Up Acne Easily at Home

Read more Home Remedies articles: http://j.mp/29NuH7V

Acne, a common condition that stems from hair follicles and clogged pores, can affect anyone though it is mostly associated with teenagers and young adults. It usually happens on the face, neck, shoulders, and upper back. This common condition has a number of home remedies.

Wash Several Times Daily

Using your hands, gently wash you face several times daily. Use a mild soap and warm water. Avoid harsh cleansers or soaps. Excessive washing or scrubbing can irritate acne. Pat your face dry as rigorous drying with a towel can also worsen acne.

Salicylic Acid Saves the Skin

Seek out skin washes containing salicylic acid. Your symptoms might worsen at first, but after a few weeks a balance will be found, and you should see improvements. Use the wash as directed or twice a day, if there is no product recommendation.

Skin Irritants Should be Avoided

Use cosmetics and skin products that are not oily or greasy. These would aggravate your acne. Seek out similar products that are water-based or that say they are noncomedogenic. You should also consider your choice of sunscreen and hair products. These can affect the facial area too.

Sunlight Can Make It Worse

Those with acne need to be extra careful about sunshine. Some acne treatments will make skin more susceptible to sunburn. Stay out of the sun particularly during the hottest part of the day when the sun is delivering full power to the earth.

It Touches Your Face

Be aware of what touches your face. Then, avoid having those items touch your face. This means avoid touching your face with your hands, your hair, or things like a telephone receiver. All these can spread and carry oils to your face. They also can carry sweat. Sweat plus oil on your skin equals acne. For an item such as your mobile phone, consider cleaning it to avoid oil build up on the device. For your hair, be sure to wash it regularly to control oil. Limit use of oil-based hair products to avoid transferring their oil to your face.

Tea Tree Oil Tackles Acne

Gels or oils that contain at least five percent tea tree oil work wonders on your acne. Use the gel as directed. If you have pure tea tree oil, mix some with a mild soap and use it to wash twice daily. Tea tree oil can also be put on a cotton bud, and the pimples touched with this cotton bud. If you find that your skin gets irritated with direct application of the oil, consider diluting the oil with some aloe vera gel or some pure water. Then apply it.

Azelaic Acid Attacks Acne

A natural ingredient from whole grains, azelaic acid can help with acne. Seek out a gel or creme with twenty percent azelaic acid. Use it twice daily for up to four weeks. Azelaic acid kills the bacteria that causes acne and clears and cleans your pores.

Zinc Sinks Acne

Make sure your diet includes enough zinc. For example, pumpkin seeds, spinach, toasted wheat germ, and cashew nuts all have high concentrations of zinc. Include these zinc-rich foods in your diet.

Green Tea Extract for Clear Skin

Use a tonic or creme that is at least two percent green tea extract. Use the lotion twice a day; morning and night. In the absence of green tea extract, create a face wash from green tea. Steep one or two green tea bags in hot water. After it cools, use the mixture to wash and rinse your face.

Taming Tinnitus with Home Remedies

Read more Home Remedies articles: http://j.mp/29NuH7V

Tinnitus is the perception of ringing in the ears. It can have a variety of causes and effects about 20% of all people. Tinnitus is a sign of an underlying problem, and it isn’t serious in itself; only bothersome. Exact root causes are often hard to identify. Treatments usually involve masking the symptom or treating the cause. Here are some home remedies that can be tried for self-management.

Stay Away from Triggers and Irritants

Reduce your contact with things that might make your tinnitus worse.  Common examples of things you should consider avoiding or limit the quantities you consume are cigarette smoke, loud noises, salt, aspirin, and nicotine. Triggers and irritants affect the blood flow to the ears. Blood flow to ears is key to reducing symptoms at their source.

Cover the Tinnitus Noise

Another option is to use some background noise or music to hide the tinnitus. The ear ringing might be more noticeable when it is quiet. So, run a fan, air conditioner, some soft music, or a white noise generator. White noise such as this can make the environment more relaxing too.

Relaxation

The noise can certainly make you stressed. The bad news is that stress will only make Tinnitus worse. Consider adding some daily relaxation to your schedule. Practicing yoga, tai chi, or meditation can help you relax. The relaxation will lead to a lessening of symptoms through reducing blood pressure and stress.

Reduce Drinking of Alcohol

Alcohol increases blood pressure and blood vessel dilation. It can only worsen the symptoms. Limit your consumption of alcohol and you will be taking steps to control your symptoms.

Eh? What’s That You Said?

Protect your hearing. If you work in areas with loud noise such as from machinery, loud music, or guns then use ear protection. These noises, over time, can damage your hearing and thus make tinnitus worse. In addition to workplace noise, be wary of listening to loud music especially for extended periods of time.

Get Regular Exercise

Good cardiovascular health is important to reduce problems with blood flow to the ears. Do some light exercise three to five times per week. A good example of this is brisk walking. Do brisk walking for twenty to thirty minutes. Look for opportunities to incorporate more exercise into your life. For example, taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

Get Enough Rest

Fatigue from lack of quality sleep worsens symptoms. Get seven to nine hours of sleep a night. Make sure your mattress and pillows are suitable and support you in your sleep. Set a routine of going to sleep at a similar time each night. All of these will prepare your body for sleep, and then your will get the most of your sleep.

Try Gingko Biloba

Gingko Biloba is considered the best herbal treatment for tinnitus. Take 50 milligrams of Ginkgo Biloba extract three to four times daily. Limit your treatment to six weeks. Gingko Biloba helps because of its effect on blood flow. In addition, it has antifungal and antibacterial properties which could also address underlying root causes.

Apple Cider Vinegar Could Help

Some have reported relief by drinking Apple Cider Vinegar. Mix two teaspoons of the vinegar with some honey in a glass of pure water. Drink this tonic two or three times a day until the ringing sensation ceases.

Repairing Damaged Skin at Home

Read more Home Remedies articles: http://j.mp/29NuH7V

No one wants damaged skin. Scars, wrinkles, and premature aging all can make a face unsightly. Prevention is better than cure. However, even after there is damage, we can take steps to minimize it. Here are some home remedies with a proven track record to help restore beauty.

Limit Sun Exposure

Before going out in the sun, take stock of the present moment. Are you wearing sunscreen? Are you dressed in a way that keeps the sun at bay? Wear a broad spectrum sunscreen. Reapply the sunscreen after two hours. Use long-sleeved shirts and wide-brimmed hats. Avoid going out at the height of the sun’s power between 10 am to 2 pm. These steps will help curtail new damage and give existing damage a chance to repair itself.

Don’t Pick at Scars or Damage

Scars are made of collagen produced by the body as part of the healing process. Sometimes scars are pressed in because of a loss of collagen in the vicinity from trauma. Squeezing or picking at scars can force bacteria and pus deeper inside from the surface area. This risks making the scar a long lasting feature. So, the result is that we should let the body heal itself rather than disturb scars with more trauma from picking or squeezing.

Honey to the Rescue

Use pure honey, particularly honey that is darker in color. Spread a thin layer of honey onto the skin. Let the honey rest for thirty minutes, then rinse it off with warm water. Afterward, gently dry the skin by patting it with a soft towel. Honey contains many antioxidants and healing properties.

Aloe Vera Gel to Moisturize

Seek out pure aloe vera gel. Apply it thinly to the skin. If the gel is too thick, combine it with a carrier oil such as jojoba or coconut oil. The gel will help moisturize your skin.

A Skin Toner may Help

A homemade skin toner can be applied. Just mix two tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice with one cup of pure water. Distilled water is the best choice. With a cotton pad, apply the toner. Leave the toner on for thirty minutes and then wash it off. Optionally, leave the toner on and do not wash it off.

Carrots Qualify as Helpers

One way to improve skin health is to increase vitamin A in your diet. Foods rich in vitamin A are carrots, sweet potatoes, and dark leafy vegetables such as Romaine lettuce and kale. Red bell peppers and mango are other options. Include some of these foods in your diet. If possible, eat some nuts or fish at the same meal. The fat from the nuts or fish will facilitate the absorption of the vitamin A.

Water will Work

Our bodies are over two-thirds water. So, make sure that you drink enough water to replenish water lost through daily activities. Be watchful for dehydration during hot weather or when you have been out in the sun. People should drink about eight glasses of water per day.

Baking Soda will Clean Things Up

Baking soda has many cleaning uses. Here, we use it for exfoliating and rejuvenating the skin. Mix one teaspoon of baking soda with one teaspoon of water. Apply the mixture to the face. Rub to gently exfoliate the skin. Rinse with warm water, then pat the skin dry. Optionally add one teaspoon of pure honey to the mixture too.

Cucumber Cures

Cut a fresh cucumber into large slices. Rub the slices carefully over your skin. Perform this before bedtime and leave on overnight. In the morning, rinse with warm water. Another option is to peel and mash a fresh cucumber. Mix in some honey and apply this honey-cucumber concoction to your skin. Leave on for thirty minutes, then wash off with warm water.

Noted author Victor Hugo once said, “Life is the flower for which love is the honey.” We don’t have anything as amazing love in today’s article. However, we do have information on the many uses of honey. Made from bees, of course, honey is packed with positive qualities that make it ideal for many home remedy situations. Perhaps we can modify Hugo’s quote to say, “Life comes from honey”? One note of caution: do not give honey to very young children as there is a risk of botulism in their immature immune systems.

An Energy Booster

These days, many amateur athletes and weekend warriors turn to specialized sports gels for an energy boost. However, nature has provided its own gel: honey. The next time you are jogging or playing some basketball, and you need a kickstart of energy, squeeze some honey; a tablespoon or two is plenty.

From Bee to C

Here, C is for cough. Honey is a good treatment for coughs and sore throat. The antibacterial qualities of honey can go to work on your cough and throat when taken. Just mix one tablespoon of honey with some fresh squeezed lemon juice. Drink this cough tonic several times a day until your condition improves.

Use Honey on Wounds

The ancient Egyptians reportedly used honey to help treat wounds. Modern reports seem to corroborate that the Egyptians were on to something. After rinsing the wound with warm water and washing it with a mild soap, apply honey to the wound. Wrap a bandage around the wound and change the bandage each 24 hours.

Beats Skin Problems

If you desire glowing skin, then look no further than honey. Apply honey to troublesome blemish spots. Leave on at least thirty minutes and much preferably overnight. In the morning, rinse off the honey with lukewarm water. Honey also helps with skin dryness. Some report good luck using honey to treat athlete’s foot or jock itch.

A Sweet Tooth for Weight Loss

Honey helps with weight loss. In a glass of pure water, just mix some honey and fresh squeezed lemon juice. Drink this tonic in the morning right after you wake up. It will help you to eat less and boost metabolism to burn more of existing fat.

Minor Burns are no Trouble for Honey

Often in the kitchen or around the home, we will get a minor burn. Simply apply honey as a salve on the burn. Honey’s antiseptic properties will help the burn heal more quickly. Honey will soothe the burn and keep irritants away too. You will need to apply the honey several times daily for the best effect.

Bees Beat Insomnia

Have you every seen a tired bee? Neither have I. Beat tiredness and insomnia with a perfect nights sleep. If you have trouble falling asleep, just mix some honey into a warm glass of milk. Both honey and milk have sleep-inducing tryptophan. Drink up and you’ll be ready to board the dreamland express in no time.

Honey Conditions Hair

Honey works as great hair conditioner post-shampoo. Mix a quarter cup of apple cider vinegar with one cup of water. Stir in one to two tablespoons of honey. Pour through your hair and leave on for two minutes, then rinse it off. Your locks will be shiny and thank you.

Lip Balm from Bees

In the store, lip balm is expensive. You can make your own at home instead. Just mix one teaspoon of honey with one teaspoon of sweet almond oil. Optionally stir in a dash of vanilla extract or an essential oil of your choosing. Use a cotton swab or your finger to apply to your lips. This is a leave-on lip conditioner.

Home Remedies for Ulcerative Colitis

Read more Home Remedies articles: http://j.mp/29NuH7V

Ulcerative Colitis, also known as UC, usually begins in people under thirty years old. [* It is characterized by sores -- ulcers -- happening on the lining of the large intestine. *] Symptoms include diarrhea, cramps and abdominal pain, and the feeling of an urgent need for a bowel movement. It is often considered an autoimmune condition. There are some home remedies you can undertake for relief.

Limit Dairy Products

Often people with UC find that their problems of abdominal pain and diarrhea are worse when they consume dairy products. If you notice this pattern or if you want to see if there is a difference, try limiting or eliminating dairy items such as ice cream, cheeses, and milk. If you notice a significant improvement, then consider making these changes permanent.

Watch Fat Intake

Sometimes UC can cause a problem with the absorption of fat from foods. If you find that fatty foods make your diarrhea worse, then cut down on fats such as butter, margarine, cream sauces and fried foods.

Fiber Foods can Fan the Flames

Fresh fruits, vegetables, and other high fiber foods may make you symptoms worse. Reduce and limit these kinds of foods from your diet. If raw fruits and vegetables lead to more gastric problems, consider steaming them before you eat them. Some foods in particular may cause more problems. Some of them are nuts, seeds, broccoli, cabbage, and corn.

Small Meals Help

Eating a large meal can put a strain on your digestive system. Rather than eat a few large meals, try eating smaller meals. Eat six small meals per day. This will give your system time to digest and process the food at a reasonable pace.

Keep Well-Hydrated

Adults need about eight glasses of water per day. Make sure that you are getting enough liquids. Avoid alcohol and highly caffeinated beverages as both will irritate the intestines leading to worse diarrhea. Some other beverage choices are ginger tea and chamomile tea which both are known to help with digestion.

A Multivitamin is Recommended

Because UC can affect the absorption of nutrients from food -- and that you may be limiting your diet down -- you need to be sure that you are getting proper nutrition. So, consider a multivitamin and mineral supplement. Pay special attention to the amounts of vitamin D and B12 in the multivitamin.

Probiotics Promote Health

Some research has shown that probiotics, which are the beneficial bacteria normally found in the intestines, can help with UC. Some foods rich in probiotics are sauerkraut, kimchi (sauerkraut’s Asian cousin), miso soup, pickles, tempeh, and kombucha tea. If dairy products do not cause problems for you, then yogurt also is a good source of probiotics. Add some probiotics to your diet every day.

Add Some Aloe Vera

Consume aloe vera gel during UC flare ups. Have a quarter cup of aloe vera gel several times a day. You can mix in some pure honey or turmeric with the gel. Alternatively, in a more maintenance mode, drink two tablespoons of pure aloe vera juice followed by a full glass of pure water at least once a day. As with the gel, you can mix some turmeric or honey in with the aloe vera juice. Sometimes aloe vera can cause diarrhea, so be mindful if aloe vera is right for you.

Exercise Improves Mind and Body Health

Exercise, even mild exercise, helps improve the mind-body relationship. It will improve your mood and reduce stress. [* Consider doing brisk walking -- walking with purpose -- for twenty to thirty minutes daily. *] Exercise also works towards the normal functioning of the digestive tract.

Turmeric is Terrific

The compound cur cumin found in turmeric, has been noticed to be helpful with UC. Consider incorporating turmeric into your diet plans. It can be added to cooking, mixed with probiotics, or even smoothies can be made with it.

Beat Sinus Infections at Home

Read more Home Remedies articles: http://j.mp/29NuH7V

When sinuses become aggravated and infected, it is quite painful. This is a sinus infection where pressure increases in these nasal cavities from fluid build-up. There can be a loss of smell, a cough, a stuffed up nose all in addition to a painful swelling in the face. Home remedies can reduce the amount of time for the condition and bring symptom relief.

Apple Cider Vinegar for Sinus Infections

This should probably be your top choice because of apple cider vinegar’s many healthful properties. The key to it working is to use it as early as possible in the condition; at the onset.  Mix one-quarter cup of apple cider vinegar with two cups of pure water. Keep this tonic with you and sip it throughout the day. Another option is to mix one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar into a cup of warm water. Use distilled or filtered water. After it is thoroughly mixed, pour some into your hand. Close one nostril and snort the mix with the other nostril. Switch and repeat this procedure for the other nostril.

A Saline Rinse Does Well

An effective treatment for sinus infections is a saline rinse. If you’ve ever been swimming in the ocean or a chlorine-filled swimming pool, then probably the thought of putting something like salt in your nose doesn’t seem like a good idea. However, salt has good properties to fight germs and reduce swelling. Just mix one-half teaspoon of non-iodized salt into one cup of warm water. When the salt has dissolved completely, use a nasal bulb or syringe. Fill it with the mixture, lean over a sink, and squirt into one nostril. Allow the solution to go up the nose and down the throat or out of the mouth. Repeat with the other nostril. Use this several times a day.

Cayenne Pepper Can Do It

The active ingredient of cayenne pepper, capsaicin, can help flush nasal passages by inducing mucus to flow. If you have ever had cayenne in your food, then you know this is a potent spice. Some put a pinch of cayenne in their palm and snort it. Others might find this too much. So, an alternative is to dilute the pepper with some water. Then, using a cotton swab, dab and apply to in the nostrils. Either way, have a tissue handy or lean over a sink to catch the drainage.

Hydrogen Peroxide and Sea Salt Work

These common ingredients can work well for relieving a sinus infection.  Just mix one-half teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide with one teaspoon of sea salt. Stir and mix well into three-quarters of a cup of water.  After the salt has thoroughly dissolved, stand over a sink and use a nasal bulb or syringe to spray the solution into each nostril. Allow the mixture to enter and then come out of the mouth into the sink. You can use this several times a day, but overuse will lead to irritation.

Oil of Oregano Opens the Way

Many report good results from using oil of oregano to treat their sinus infections. Place a few drops of oil of oregano under the tongue. If you find the taste of the oil objectionable, then another method is to put some hot water in a bowl so that it steams. Add a few drops of oil of oregano. Drape a bath towel over your head and lean over the bowl to create your individual mini-steam sauna. Breathe in the steam vapors to clear your nasal passages.

Put Grapefruit Seed Extract to Work

Grapefruit seed extract, taken from the white pulp and seeds of grapefruit, is known for its antibacterial properties. Put it to work on your sinus infection. Just combine four drops of the extract with a quarter teaspoon of non-iodized salt in one cup of warm water. Stir until the salt has dissolved completely. Then, use a nasal bulb or syringe to spray the solution in one nostril and then the other.

Garlic Delivers the Goods

Garlic is renowned for its healing properties. Use it to help with your sinus infection. Chop or mince a fresh garlic clove. Allow it to rest for a short time, then optionally combine it with some pure honey. Spread this on some toast and eat. Many report that this clears their nose and puts them on the path to health.

Eucalyptus Oil is Effective

Bring some water to a boil and then carefully pour some into a bowl. Add some eucalyptus oil to the bowl and gently stir it. Be sure not to splash any hot water on yourself. Place a bath towel over your head to make a tent. Breathe in the steam vapors and allow them to clear your nose and work on your sinus infection.

Irrigate with Hydrogen Peroxide

Many have reported that this is an effective treatment. Just mix one part of hydrogen peroxide to four parts of water. Be sure to use clean, distilled water or filtered water. Irrigate the nasal passages using a nasal bulb or syringe. Spray the mixture and allow it to exit the other nostril or out the mouth. Avoid swallowing the treatment.
