Our world is changing. We now have the technology to feed everyone in the world, yet we have starvation. We have an unbelievable ability to connect around the world but still have ignorance and lack of understanding. We often can’t connect with each other. We have incredible possibilities for healthcare yet sickness everywhere. What is missing here?

People need to understand health in a whole new way and their personal responsibility. There are people working on that aspect. Most of the young people are eliminating the over processed foods that have polluted our bodies in the last 40 years and young people care about their health. But they don’t have all the tools they need to deal with the body’s health and their emotions.

What you eat is what you are and also what you think is what you are. This book is about a new kind of thinking to understand the impact that thinking has on the body, The Bio-Chemical Model explains the mind body connection and how to fix it.

I was born in 1942. In my mother’s generation people were taught not to feel or think. My parents didn’t talk much or feel anything. Feelings were not acknowledged and most people were not allowed to express feelings because most feelings were bad. The world began to change in my generation and future generations. I didn’t talk to my first set of kids born in the 60s but the next set born in the 80s got a whole lot more conversation.

In the subsequent generations, not only did the digital world happen, feelings were acknowledged and encouraged. This is good and bad. It is good because people could finally express themselves. Suppressing feelings just leaves one in the world of numb. The old system of thinking “don’t think and follow the rules, suck it up, and don’t change” kept emotions pent up that hurt the body. The philosophy then was that you knew the worst and any change might make things even worse – so leave it alone. Life was hard. However, like it or not, change started happening. The ability to feel and encourage feelings has its down side though. People were not equipped to handle the feelings and psychology didn’t have the answers. People didn’t know how to communicate. People bonded on pain and desperation so that was reflected in their communication. Negative communication is drama. Emotional drama is draining.

The most recent generation has been a permissive soft generation and full of drama. There is no self-responsibility for feelings. Now that people feel free to talk about the negatives in their lives, it is hard to be around them. Sharing drama and pain is not good communication. Blaming others is not helpful and people need a map to find their way out of this. Hopefully this book will help along with the other part of this series.

The digital world and communication has changed so much that we have to remake our minds to keep up. We are in the process of changing to a whole new world system of thinking and living. This is a world of constant change so expect it. You will be much more successful if you embrace change. There are two systems happening at the same time now and it is important to understand the difference between old thinking and new thinking to understand the world at this time.

The Good Old Boy system is the X, Negative, or Authoritative System. A new system that we call the Positive, Synergistic, or Y system has nothing to do with being male or female. It has to do with a new way of thinking that is collaborative, positive, and growth minded (insert link to X vs. Y System) along with a new underlying philosophy (Insert link to Positive Philosophy here). The generations between the 60s and the present have been a world of flux and confusion. We have been living between these worlds of change for quite some time. I am attempting to make sense of this change to create clarity in my series of books.

Most people have no idea of how feelings affect the body and health. They have no idea that there are two thinking models (the X System vs. the Y system) where only one will bring happiness and abundance. They are not aware of an underlying philosophy that creates our way of life. We are in the middle of transitioning these models into a completely different world. Moving from the old world to a new world is difficult when you don’t have a map. I am trying to provide this map so people can be healthy and happy.

In this book we will introduce the Bio-Chemical Model and why this is important. You will learn how emotions or feelings are bio-chemical reactions and how this happens in the body and what part of the brain is involved. We will discuss how to get to the body through the mind and how some of the mind body techniques work as well as give you a couple of techniques and tools you can start using. We tell you how this information was collected and who discovered it. You will learn how beliefs influence the body and there is an actual dialogue that demonstrates a few techniques.

This Book Is How Memory And Feelings Are Tied Together To Automate Behavior. Not Only In Therapy Is This Material Useful. In The Field Of Marketing And Public Persuasion, A Hundred Years Ago Eddie Bernays Originated The Use Of An Emotional Connection To A Product Or Service. He Saw The Way To Sell A Product Was Not To Sell To The Intellect But To Emotions. He Saw That The Best Way Was To Engage The Public Emotionally Or Personally With The Product. He Appealed To Their Desires And Their Unrecognized Longings. The Thinking Model Is An Explanation Of How This Works. It Is Also Part Of The Understanding Needed To Unhook An Addiction.the Thinking Model Is Part 1 Of A Series Of Books That Hold The Key To How Our Brain/Mind/Body Works Together. We Didn’t Have At Birth A Manual For The Mind/Body System But We Have It Now.

&Chapter 1: Introduction to the Bio-Chemical Model&

Your body and your mind are much more connected and dependent on each other than you might realize. This means, that if you abuse your body in any way, it will affect your overall health now and in the future. Here we are talking about the food you eat, the exercise you get, the way you use your body, as well as the pollution in your environment. It is common knowledge if your body isn’t feeling well, it will affect your ability to think and process information.

The focus of this book is how your thoughts create feelings that are chemistry in your body, and this chemistry can make your body sick. You can be abusing your body by high stress and any negativity in your life which creates chemistry that damages your body.

This book is about the Bio-Chemical Model. This model shows the science behind the mind body connection and how to work with it. Understanding this model can help you regain your health and manage your body. You can kill yourself though emotional chemistry as easily as environmental problems, or sedentary habits, or bad food and drink.

&Why it is important to know about the Bio-Chemical Model?&

Your body is always trying to save time by making reactions automatic. This is good in some ways, but causes problems in other ways.  So if you have a reaction one time, like feeling stressed under a certain circumstance or get a panic attack, then it can make that an automatic reaction in the future. This would happen any time a similar circumstance presented itself. In this way, your body learns how to go into panic and it can’t unlearn something on its own. The body’s mind is programmed to keep everything it has learned.

The brain and mind saves everything it learns that is important enough to have a feeling about, unless you interfere with this process. Your brain categorizes memories and can cross reference faster than any computer. Reactions to events happen at lightning speed, so that an “out of control feeling” can take over before you have the presence of mind to control it. Because of this, you have to work on those feelings after the fact.

There is a saying, “Holding resentment is like taking poison waiting for the other person to die.” Resentment is just one form of bad chemistry. Every negative emotion is like poison to the body and in some way damages your health. Think about how much of the day you feel positive and how much of the time you feel negative. Is your chemistry mostly positive or negative? Some negative emotions affect the eyes, some the kidneys, some the stomach and some the skin and so on. Every negative emotion is something of a depressant and is toxic. Negative emotions shut down your mind/body system a little at a time. I am sure you have felt how negativity lowers your energy especially if you listen to someone’s personal drama. That lower energy not only makes you feel down but suppresses your immune system.

When we experience anxiety, worry, fear, guilt, stress and any other bodily constricting, alarm signaling emotions on a continual basis our health, motivation, and relationships in every part of our lives are adversely affected. These emotions are designed to be our guides, not our jailers.

It is important to understand this chemical process and to understand how to control it in order to have self-control as well as good health.

&Chapter 2: How feelings are biochemical interactions&

What we “feel” when we are upset or happy is the end result of our brains biochemical messengers or neuropeptides connecting the mind and body in a constant dance of two way communication. This model explains the expression of emotions as interpreted through the lenses of thinking, systems and perspective models.

Emotions are neuro-hormones. These are long chains of amino acids that are produced primarily in the hippocampus part of the brain. They are released by the pituitary gland into the blood stream. They go from your blood stream into your cells and they affect every living cell in your body which is part of the master regulatory system. They are also produced in your body as part of a feedback loop between brain-body, body-brain. There is a part of the brain whose sole purpose is to monitor emotional interactions. So we’re constantly picking up and sending emotional messages. We are always broadcasting on this emotional channel. Emotions travel in the blood, they affect every cell, and affect the way we think as well as the way we act. These neuro-hormones dock on the receptor sites of our cells. Every cell in your body has these receptor sites. The neuro-hormone unlocks the cell delivering its message changing the electrical set point of the cell and the cell produces new chemicals, often creating a cascade affect where one emotion triggers another, then that one triggers another.

Each burst of chemical lasts about 6 seconds. So any time we are feeling something for longer than 6 seconds on some level we are choosing to do so although it may not seem like we have any control.

&What part of the brain does this?&

The Limbic System is made up of the hypothalamus, thalamus, amygdala, hippocampus, and several other structures. It is an ancient part of the brain and one of the first to form in the fetus. The Limbic System works to keep the body in balance by regulating emotions, the immune system, thirst, hunger, sex drive, circadian rhythms, blood sugar levels, blood pressure, heart rate, motivation, and memory. It is also responsible for converting short term memories into long term memories. More on this can be found in Emotionology’s Thinking Model Book. (add link)

Working together, the various structures in the limbic system are like movie cameras that record events in life. They take in information from all the senses: smell, taste, sight, sound and touch. They also attach a chemical signature (neuropeptide) and then restore important information into long term memory mostly in visual form. That chemical signature may represent joy, sexual arousal, jealousy, frustration, anger, or anything that would complete the sentence, “I feel…”

The limbic system is constantly working to quickly and efficiently match current sensory information with stored memories, each with a chemical signature. When it finds a match, the neuropeptides (or emotions) associated with those memories are sent to every cell in the body, telling the cells to do something. The resulting feeling could be anything from fear to joy and the resulting action could be anything from hiding from danger to playing a musical instrument.

When the chemistry goes through the body, its effect is almost immediate, like the fight or flight response when seeing a dangerous animal or barely avoiding an auto accident. This is how the limbic system translates sensory information into instinctual or automatic behavior. These rapid changes can raise the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or suppress the immune system. This is how the limbic system affects our health, our motivation, and our relationships all below our conscious awareness. This is also how undesirable emotional patterns, buttons, or triggers are created. To learn more about these patterns and how memories are linked read Emotionology’s Thinking Model. (Put link to Thinking mode here)

The HTP axis or hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis consists of:

1. Hypothalamus produces TRH Thyrotropin-releasing hormone,

2. Pituitary gland produces TSH Thyroid-stimulating hormone, Follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone prolactin, growth hormone,

3. Thyroid gland produces thyroxin, triodothyronine.

If the hypothalamus detects low levels of circulating thyroid hormones T3 and T4, it responds by releasing TRH which stimulates the pituitary gland to produce TSH (somatostatin inhibits the pituitary gland from producing TSH). The thyroid, stimulated by TSH will produce T4 (thryoxine), T3, triodothyronine which affects the metabolism of almost every tissue in the body, affects growth and development and increased catecholamine effect. There is a negative feedback loop from the thyroid that sends messages back to the pituitary and hypothalamus to stop the production of TSH.

&How to understand this in simpler terms&

When any event happens that causes a feeling, even before we consciously make sense of that event, a part of our brain makes its own decision about the meaning of that event from a chemistry point of view as well as a result of past experience. It immediately puts chemicals throughout the body to match the meaning from any previous learning experience. Chemicals flood the body within seconds and we experience this chemistry as an emotion or a feeling.  If you can think of a time you got angry, you will realize how quickly this happens. Most strong emotions have an almost instant responsive feeling in the body.

Therefore, every thought has a feeling which is really body chemistry and is just like taking a pill. Your emotions can be poison or they can be health giving. They can be the medicine you need to make you well. There is no automatic way the body has to change an emotion or our reaction to an emotion. A change in this system has to come from the conscious mind. It is a choice. This choice is a mechanical process to trick that part of the brain that controls the body’s automatic reactions. It is possible to learn how to get access to the body’s control over emotional reactions.

&What are Emotions?&

We all have them and we believe most animals have emotions in some rudimentary form. Emotions are basic, body based processes that are fairly old in terms of evolution. They evolved from the limbic system of our brain and are different than feelings although in most cases the terms are interchangeable.

Feelings are often considered to be something that involves higher cortical functions. So there is an emotional charge or a physical component but also a cognitive overlay. There’s beliefs, values, ethics, morality, predictions about the future which are all linked to memories of the past.

We need emotions to survive. We rely on emotions to help us make quick and reliable decisions. Emotions direct our attention, enhance our memories, and organize our behavior. Emotions drive social behaviors of approach and avoidance. Emotions contribute to our cognitive processes by providing information that directs our behavior. Emotionology is the science behind emotional change so that people can not only remove emotional blocks but build emotional skills that inhibit positive behavior.

In the process of working on emotions we want to eliminate all the effects of negative emotions and enhance our positive emotions we call skills. Negative emotions not only affect behavior and relationships but also affect health which is the focus of this book.

&Chapter 3: How to get to the body through your mind&

As automatic as emotions and feelings are, any reaction can be changed with what we now know in the field of Emotionology. The main focus of this book is around allergies but the tools and techniques can be applied to other ailments and situations. An Emotionology coach can help to make these changes. An Emotionology coach is there to help their clients reach their goals by providing challenge, structure and support as well as emotional change.  Emotions are at the bottom of everything.

Emotions happen on a body level before you can be conscious of them. In order to change the feeling, you have to be able to change this chemistry. It is necessary for you to consciously communicate with the part of the brain that is programmed to put out those body chemicals. What needs to be understood is that the doorway to the body’s mind is through the mind’s eye. Another term for this is visualizing or looking at your “visual screen”.  Not everyone can do this easily.

Because I grew up in an era where it was necessary to stuff your feelings, I didn’t even know there were pictures in my head. When you block your feelings, the only feeling you can get is numb. You can’t block bad feelings without blocking good feelings. I slowly learned to look at my mental images and edit them. This might take you some time if you are like me. Most children of today have their mental images too visible to them which results in an emotional roller coaster. The good part of this is that having mental images readily available makes them easy to change.

Change can be much easier for the children of today if they know how to do this. Most of the tools and techniques that Emotionology uses to fix body issues include visualization. When you picture an event in a different way, as is used in the phobia technique, the feeling changes. The phobia technique used for fear is the first technique we will explore in later in this book. Since your feelings come off your mind’s eye pictures, we will start with a technique to desensitize feelings.  If you distort any picture in your mind’s eye in any way, the feeling will change in some way. Your body chemistry has also changed. You manually instructed that part of your brain to have a different meaning for the picture.

&How Does Emotionology use this information?&

By following the threads of unwanted emotions back to their “thought structures” (explained in the Thinking Model) and first experience with that emotion, Emotionology ™ exercises infuse old thought structures with resourceful emotions that allow one to quickly and efficiently update old patterns of thinking and beliefs that no longer work in one’s life. Adding resourceful emotions that allow one to feel clarity means one is no longer stuck in the unwanted emotion but instead have choices that allow for new decisions.

The limbic system and mainly the hypothalamus operate through mental images. You can communicate with your own body through your mind’s eye pictures to influence your brain to react differently to any stimulus.  Edit any negative event through your mental pictures by putting different information, ideas, and positive feelings in that event. Once you have done this visually you will discover that you also completed something you are trying to learn from that event.

Background: On the surface of every cell in our body there are thousands of receptor molecules that act like the key hole on a door. The unique key that unlocks those doors, thereby activating the cell to do something, is a chemical called a neuropeptide. When Dr. Candace Pert PhD, former Chief of Brain Biochemistry at the NIH and author of Molecules of Emotion, discovered that our cells have a receptor (key hole) for opium, the scientific community went looking for the body’s natural painkiller or neuropeptide that fit into the opium key hole. After all, if there was a key hole then there also had to be a key. That key was the neuropeptide we now call an endorphin. This was the discovery that the brain makes its own chemicals (such as endorphins) that create emotional states. After researching peptides for 15 years Dr. Pert began to refer to the peptides and receptors as the “biochemical correlates of emotion:” From these initial discoveries we now know that our minds and bodies are intricately connected in a constant chemical dance of two way communication. Mind and body, mind and health are intertwined.

The hypothalamus, a brain structure in our Limbic system or “Emotional Brain” creates these neuropeptides in its job of balancing our body’s internal environment with the outside world. For example, if you are hiking in the woods and see a bear, your hypothalamus will produce neuropeptides that tell your digestive system to stop in favor of your adrenal glands producing adrenaline to prepare your legs to run. You will associate this internal state as the emotion of fear. If this is the first time you felt fear then your thalamus, amygdala and hippocampus (also part of our emotional brain) will store this feeling in your memory along with the associated thoughts, beliefs, sounds, smells, and visual components to be retrieved when needed in some future time. These chemicals of emotion play a significant role in our physical and mental wellbeing. How?

Early emotional memories are stored in the brain, infused with the thinking, beliefs, sights, sounds, smells and feelings that are associated with them. As more memories are stored and associated or linked up with similar emotional memories, then more neuropeptides are “fired” from one cell to another “wiring’ these cells together. Neurons that fire together grow more connections between them and become hardwired for efficiency. This is how long lasting patterns of thinking, beliefs and feelings get hardwired into the brains neural networks.

Fear, anxiety, and frustration tell the body to increase the heart rate, increase the blood pressure, sweat, and redirect blood away from our digestive tract and into our muscles. These feels interfere with digestion. These “alert” emotions are designed to increase our chance for survival and when we are in a survival situation they are vitally important. But when we aren’t in a survival situation they set us up for health issues as well as social issues when our responses to the situation at hand are inappropriate. Dr. Pert’s discovery brought confirmation that the “mind-body” connection absolutely does exist.

Emotionology™ techniques guide you to rewire inappropriate responses so you can choose what you want to feel, instead of just reacting or feeling stuck. Ask yourself, if I often find that I am worried, anxious, frustrated, ashamed, disgusted or angry how are these emotions affecting my body, my health? If I continue in the manner what will I look and feel like in five years? Ten years? Will I even be alive in ten years?

It may take more than one of the Emotionology techniques to fix issues but we will discuss this later. The dialogue part of the book demonstrates some techniques in the process of changing your body’s chemistry. Once you understand how it works it is easier to change any negative emotion and those changes will heal your body through your mind. Almost anything emotional or physical can be healed if you don’t wait too long. Waiting a long time can damage the hardware of your body although it is never too late to improve.

The longer you wait to make these changes, the more ingrained the problem becomes and the more events there are to deal with are stacked up. A larger thought structure makes a stronger feeling.  Once you complete a section of a specific problem, you become inoculated to that problem you will no longer have the same feeling and will react different in the future. Your body chemistry is changed.

&Chapter 4: How did this information come about?&

Candice Pert http://candacepert.com/ in her book, Molecules of Emotion: Why You Feel the Way You Feel (Scribner, 1997), was the first to do research on this subject.  Every emotion is a chemical event in the body.  She was the first to discover that emotions were chemistry.  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003L77V74/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?ie=UTF8&btkr=1

After reading her book and working through hundreds of sessions with individuals, the information clicked with other discoveries to create the Emotionology Bio-Chemical Model. It is referred to from many sources.

“The discovery of neuropeptides was so significant because it showed that the body is fluid enough to match the mind. Thanks to messenger molecules (neuropeptides), events that seem totally unconnected- such as a thought and a bodily reaction- are now seen to be consistent. The neuro-peptide isn’t a thought but it moves with thought, serving as a point of transformation. A neuropeptide springs into existence at the touch of a thought, but where does it spring from? For example, “A thought of fear and the neuro-chemical that it turns into are somehow connected in a hidden process, a transformation of non-matter into matter.” Chopra, Deepak, M.D., Quantum Healing, Bantam Books, NY, 1989, pp 95

Researcher, Neuro scientist, biochemist, Joe Dispenza in his many books and videos, explains further in simple terms how this works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2YJItk7nes. Dr. Joe Dispenza says, “Nerve cells that fire together, wire together.” That is why we neurologically connect events with specific emotions and it is at the base of most allergies. If the body thinks it is being attacked it will create an allergy. Experience automatically connects information that doesn’t always work in our best interest.

Recent research has shown that the mind becomes toxic when a person suppresses anger and other emotions. Breast cancer research at Stanford University showed that a suppressed emotion doubles one’s chances of the return of cancer. (http://cbdrp.org.184.seekdotnet.com/research’PageGrant.asp?grant_id=9)

Neuroscientist E. Van Winkle, in his paper The Biology of Emotions states, “The suppression of anger is more damaging than the trauma itself. It causes a toxicosis that leads to anxiety, depression, and addictions.”

In the early 1980’s, I began to study NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) from author and developer of NLP, Richard Bandler http://www.nlplifetraining.com/richard-bandler , as well as author and NLP trainer Robert Dilts http://www.nlpu.com/NewDesign/NLPU.html. I also trained with Dr Mary Hale-Haniff PhD and got my Master NLP training certificate from her in FL in the 1980’s. I want to credit them for all I learned as well as the clients over the years that I learned from. It was through several years of experiences with clients and leading study groups that the pieces fit together to form Emotionology’s Models that explain emotions, how they are linked, and how they form systems.

Robert Diltz was the for-runner in applying NLP to Health in his NLP Health series. I watched Robert Diltz demonstrate his allergy technique on a class participant. Before the process she was so allergic to one food substances that she would go into anaphylactic shock should she eat it. After doing just one simple technique (with rescue ambulances available), the participant ate the substance that normally hurt her and nothing happened.

A form of Robert Dilts allergy technique is used in the dialogue later in this book. I give full credit to Robert Dilts for his research on health with NLP and allergies.

&Chapter 5: My personal experience that demonstrates this connection&

I have had allergies since my early twenties. Growing up in a world of numb, I didn’t know what happiness felt like. In my first marriage, I experienced extreme unhappiness and developed many allergies until I got away and discovered what it was finally like to be happy.

At an early age I learned to shut off my feelings. In my case, my severe unhappiness at a young age until the age of 23, was the cause of lower resistance and many allergies for many years.  At one time it seemed I was allergic to everything. My complicated long history around allergies has made it more difficult to unravel the problem than one simple allergy to one substance. After learning NLP I worked on most of my emotions and continued to work on myself through the following years in my Emotionology practice. My general overall health improved so most of my allergies disappeared. I thought my allergies were behind me. However, in 2014 things changed.

An unwanted flu shot kicked up a major reaction along with some old allergy issues. I had a violent allergic reaction. I was angry at the system and distracted when my health care insurance doctor insisted I get that shot. It gave me muscle spasms and felt like all my cells exploded.  I took massive amounts of antihistamines and muscle relaxants for a couple weeks until I remembered Robert Dilts’s Allergy Technique.

&Chapter 6: How beliefs influence the body&

Our thinking, which is intricately connected to our beliefs and expectations, evokes emotional biochemistry that affects the health and functioning of our body. Not only can we become addicted to the chemicals of alcohol, or heroine we can become addicted to the chemicals of our emotions.

There is a big difference between releasing emotional distress and transforming it into emotional resources there by increasing emotional intelligence. Releasing emotional distress happens after one has a good cry, or gets angry and finally stands up for one’s self. When we release emotional distress our hypothalamus is mixing up the chemical cocktail and transmitting it throughout our body via the rapid response system of our neurons and so we are reinforcing the neuronal network that transports this chemical.

Allergies happen when a negative attitude or belief gets attached to the allergen. The body takes it on as a project. For instance, a child could have a bad experience with a cat and from then on the body goes into attack mode anytime there’s a cat around. The body believes the cat is a threat. It could even be that the child needs attention, or because she/he got attention from something negative when the cat is around. In some way, the body reaction gets connected to the substance. So the body reacts in the same way that previously got attention or felt fear from the original stimulus.

The body works on a belief level. It will turn almost any idea into a concrete belief. Whatever you believe, your body also believes. My beliefs that flu shots were bad, my distrust in doctors, and my negative frame of mind, all contributed to my body’s reaction. My conscious mind knows that if a substance doesn’t bother someone else, it shouldn’t necessarily bother me. I also know that the body lets plenty of other substances pass through my body without a problem that might bother someone else. However, the conscious mind has a lot of difficulty changing the body’s mind.

&Chapter 7: Getting to the body through the mind&

In your mind’s eye, playing the content of traumatic events in a different format such as cartoons, black and white old movies, or as animals or other characters can take the emotional impact out of these events. It tricks the chemical-making part of the brain into thinking it happened to someone else, even though one consciously knows the difference. That might be the reason it changes things, but recently science has discovered that completely different cells are activated when we watch cartoons. At any rate, when you play the content of a trauma one of these ways it allows one to step back and be more objective. This is specifically used in the phobia technique later in the book.

One’s state of mind at any given moment has a big influence on how information is used and recorded by the body. How one feels can lower the resistance to something in the environment and all these pieces work together. How happy or sad one is helps to create one’s level of health and influences beliefs. First we have to examine the original situation that caused the present feeling. We are looking for the seed to the problem.

It takes a visual ability to perform most body/mind techniques and in the beginning it was difficult for me to see my mind’s eye pictures. For years I wasn’t able to work on my own allergies although I worked with other people on theirs and had seen positive results. As I worked on my issues by working on my old memories, I became happier in life, my health improved and most of my allergies disappeared until this flu shot. Doing the Diltz technique fixed the initial problems from this reaction.

The follow techniques are a few that you can use to work on feelings and emotions.

&Chapter 8: Techniques demonstrating the Bio-Chemical Model&

&The Phobia chnique&

You can find this technique in its original form in Richard Bandler’s book “Using Your Brain for a Change” (1985). https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://t0.gstatic.com/images%3Fq%3Dtbn:ANd9GcT7-iyUEl6CSMalfmUiLQ74LOJGFCnKRuApQDPuMP3ejaXEz-vZ&imgrefurl=http://books.google.com/books/about/Using_Your_Brain_for_a_Change.html?id%3DFalhQgAACAAJ%26source%3Dkp_cover&h=400&w=258&tbnid=_Ntp1PUFzaGsqM:&tbnh=160&tbnw=102&docid=tgmGTueuzOEaCM&itg=1&usg=JKokTHtzW66-YfSd0aPdOJsqJLQ=

This technique is for specific memories that need desensitizing. It is used mainly to neutralize a phobia or any traumatic experience. It can be used to desensitize any strong feeling. This technique was modified from Richard Bandler’s original Phobia Technique. It is one of NLP’s basic techniques that were originally taught in the practitioner training.

This is the first tool you should learn to manage your mind. Most negative memories are emotionalized and need to be neutralized in order to be objective enough to learn from an experience. I used this technique as the first one to heal my mind from my entire traumatic past. I used to have phobias and panic attacks. I stopped them with this along with other techniques. Some say the definition of trauma is “anything you didn’t want to happen” so there can be many memories to desensitize. It is important to begin with fear and get rid of all irrational fear.

Fear should be a counselor not a jailer. When fear has you immobilized, it stops you from accessing resources and reaching useful outcomes. This technique is used to break the hold irrational fear can have on you. This technique is also used to disconnect addictions which are discussed in one of our Emotionology training modules.

&Technique 1 – Used for Phobias and Fears&

Client has a fear that you have identified and found the youngest memory. Have client go back to just before the negative feeling (event) begins.

Tell Client: Put yourself in a movie theater with the event on the big screen, watching yourself in the audience (you can see the back of your head) and seeing yourself just before the incident on the screen (double disassociation). Now put yourself at the projector running the movie. (You are at the projector watching the back of your head watching the movie on the big screen). Change the movie in that first frame from color to black and white (a cartoon or a Muppet movie). Run the movie fast forward. The faster the better. Run a movie that starts with the black and white slide and continues to just beyond the end of the unpleasant experience. If the client says there is no end to the unpleasant experience, just have them end it somewhere beyond the worst part. Have them calibrate on a scale of 1-10 the depth of the feeling.

At the end, change the picture back to color and have the client jump into the picture (i.e. associated), change the film back to color and run the film backwards to the beginning associated (very fast). Repeat several times.

Use different variations such as turning it into an old black and white silent movie, putting it in the context of Little Rascals, cartoon or animal characters, a western, etc.

In addition: Replay movie including positive feelings, resources and skills (example: safety) and a new desired feeling. You may ask how that person wants to feel about the incident. The client can start by adding skills and resources to the other people in the movie first. Then have the client change how they are feeling.

Re-access the original experience and calibrate what is presently experienced. Evaluate change.

&Technique 2 – The Inner Child Technique&

I have found in working with people, and my own experience, that a child viewing parents that are not happy sends a depressing message about life to the child which they may carry through the rest of their life. This is the basis of much depression, emotional pain and health issues.

Even seemingly minor traumas throughout one’s life leave painful memories. We leave behind many unsolved mysteries that fracture our personality and hold our energy. It is helpful to go back and collect lost parts of oneself in the process of becoming whole. This particular technique is designed to collect these left behind misunderstood younger selves. It is not necessary to dwell and agonize or cry about the past. We need to heal these situations and move on.

“Think of a time when you were really hurt or felt hurt as a child.” You can also use many other feelings of jealousy or insecurity with this process. Get some information from the client so you have an idea of the situation or kind of hurt he/she is talking about.

Put an image of that time or event out on a stage, out in front of you. (You would be seeing yourself at a younger age.)

Take a present image of yourself when you are feeling mature, wise and resourceful, to walk out on to that stage to be with, and spend time with, that younger you. Help that younger you handle the situation for him/her. You can be there or watch yourself mediate for that younger you, saying whatever is necessary to heal the situation and provide the information for him/her. Tell him/her you will always be there for him/her. You may want to hold that younger you in your arms. Tell that younger you that you will never allow him/her to hurt that way again.

After he/she seems to be safe and at peace, take the younger you by the hand or in your arms and bring both images back inside.

You may want to go to sticky cloud or editing the past techniques to finish the process. You would usually finish this process with a client by seeing the situation with a complete synergistic system and all the skills needed in every person left behind.

This is a simple tool and often used with many variations to do inner child work. It isn’t necessary to cry although you may feel the need to because your inner child has been cut off from the today you. Another way to say this is to understand that part of your thinking has been shut off to protect you from feelings you don’t like. Opening this up can sometimes feel temporarily painful but it passes when you do the work.

With the above two simple mental techniques it is possible to permanently fix many emotional issues that are body emotions. Therapy doesn’t need to go on and on. You can actually do your own therapy and if you can’t follow these by yourself ask a friend to read them to you so you can stay objective. Let them play the therapist and you play the client.

&Chapter 9: Dialogue of a Session on Allergies&

&The Bio-Chemical Model is the neuroscience behind change.&

The following dialogue demonstrates the use of metaphors, how things and thoughts are connected like a web, the power of suggestion, and some Emotionology techniques in use.

Lorry (L) feels sick. Mary (M) is guiding her to a better state of health.

L I had antibiotics as a child, by the time I hit somewhere in my 30’s I was fed up with them ---they weren’t working any more for me. There was a year that I had really bad health, I am in a similar state as I was then…. I am really a mess, it’s hard for me because my nose is literally continually dripping.

M Ok, hold a Kleenex under your nose. Remember the Robert Diltz technique where you move your body out so you are looking at it out across the room in color? Let me tell you what we are going to do…move and image of the part out that is sick. So now you can see your sinuses out in front of you. Move it out so you can still see it clearly so you are observing your body image with the problem. Now if you could let me know when you have the image out there…then imagine doing different things like taking antibiotics or steroids and see if it changes the image.

[Long pause]

L Ok…(pause) it’s interesting because when taking steroids I see my face getting thinner--- it kind of went from fleshy pink reddish to blue-ish. Whereas, the antibiotics… taking the antibiotics it kind of turns yellowish and moldy… well kind of like the essence of mold.

M Interesting, well, move the image and think about taking antihistamines, what happens when you do that?

L Um um, I got the essence of dried earth.

M Ok, kind of the essence of dryness, what kind of antihistamine are you thinking about when you do that?

L I wasn’t thinking about any particular type I was just thinking about the medication going to my nose and my sinuses, I wasn’t thinking so much about whether it was in tablet or spray or… so I could break it down and try each of those?

M Yes, let’s break it down and try different things

L (blows nose, very congested) I can hear my doctor say a long time ago that taking the antihistamine sprays were better because they were moisturizing --- I was having trouble with the dryness from tablet antihistamines. Um but if I look at the spray…

M Let your nose tell you its truth

L Yeah, ok, let me wipe the screen again, put myself out there… I just see it kind of tightening things up but not really, not really clearing it up, it’s like everything gets a little dried up or tight. But the symptoms are still there, or the issue is still there whatever it is. I have taken every kind of pills (laughs) because one will work for a while and then it will just stop working for me.

I got really frustrated taking the various pills and stuff because I tried taking different amounts but most of the time they seem too strong so I would take a half of one and then it’s like I would be okay for a while and then suddenly, I don’t know if it is the season change or what, that’s kind of what I would attribute it to, so I would try a diff one, I’m just fed up with them all. I want to be off the drugs.

M Well that was then and this is now, you just got to try and see what happens right now.

L Right now I think what has happened, I got the flu shot and a pneumonia shot/jab. Which I haven’t had for years and years because I thought they did more harm than good.

M Ah, so because you thought that – it happened. No matter what is true, your body reacts according to your beliefs. They talked you into it?

L I told myself I was just going in to get more information.

M Oh, same thing happened to me last year. (note Mary’s experience above).

L And the nurse was like one of those nurses that has been a nurse forever and I told her I was having some trouble. I told her I was taking Chinese herbs and I was taking them because I had a reaction to the antibiotics I was given. It was like she didn’t want to hear any of it and said, “Oh you’ll be fine.” Then boom boom she gave me two shots quickly. I just kind of succumbed to it and I said to myself, “Okay, just get it over with how bad it could be?” Now I know how bad it could be.

We are beginning the allergy technique here but shifting to help the present situation by inserting positive skills, info, and emotions into the situation. Sometimes it is important to work on the issue with more than one technique before continuing with the basic allergy technique.

M You were overriding your body’s beliefs and your body works on what it believes. Let’s use a technique to fix the present situation. So we need to go back in time to when you got the shot. Let’s see what we need to do here to fix this. Take yourself back to that time of going to the doctor and give the nurse skills so that she can really help you.

L Ok, that is good.

M Take yourself back when you were with her, so that you have both ‘you now’ and ‘you then’ with her. See yourself back there at the office, but take this ‘you now’ to go back and be there too. Now both of you are listening to her, and first of all give the nurse the skills to listen to you and what you have to say. And have THIS ‘you here and now’ be communicating with her saying, “No, this is what needs to happen…”

L Ok, um, (a pause while Lorry is visualizing). Ok it will take me a little bit to try and give her the skills.

M Yes, see what skills she needs, she needs some kind of bigger picture?

L At the same time there are judgments and there are… um…. (blows nose) feelings that I had… um… about her and the type of person that she is.

M Ok, well first of all what are the skills we need to give her so that you wouldn’t have been feeling a judgment towards her?

L Part of this is the kind of thing I feel bad saying out loud…. She is a health care professional who doesn’t look like she takes care of her own health.

M Oh, so she doesn’t walk her talk?

L Yes, she doesn’t walk her talk… well, she might, I don’t know what kind of belief system she comes from, but obviously I just don’t think you can be that overweight and flabby, um, if you really cared about your health. So she doesn’t… um… It’s like she likes having the authority but she doesn’t apply that thinking to herself. So what would she need?

M Sounds like she needs to be more evolved and less medical model?

L Well, she has been in it for a long time and my sense is that she has received a lot of power from her position.

She is stuck purely in ‘old thinking’.

M Yes, stuff she’s been told.

L She’s done everything she’s been told so she is quite happy and proud of herself because she feels she is exemplary at her job.

M So she needs an open mind?

L She needs…(pause) what I am feeling is she needs… she is caught in old thinking and old school of doing things and following the rules.

M How would you change that?

L She needs the desire to want to think more openly but think….um….more progressively. And the desire to learn and find out… ok… the desire to understand more about where the patient is coming from, to ask the patient where they are coming from, to be able to tap into the people who are coming into her office which would actually raise her to an even higher level of care than she is giving (now).

M Doesn’t she need to know that medicine doesn’t know everything and that the mind affects the body?

L But then she wouldn’t be accepted in her community of work because they all think like that.

M Well then you need to go to the bigger picture of the whole group and fix them.

L The feeling that I get is that this particular doctor’s office has frustrated me for quite a long time and I have just not taken the steps to register with a different one. I think there is something really dysfunctional about this office. And, and…

M So we need to fix that whole system in your mind first before we can even fix her.

L And then from that system they are part of the bigger system of the NHS (National Health System – the basic provider of healthcare for all of the United Kingdom). So within the NHS there is some autonomy how a doctor’s office is run. And…they are part of the web, I believe there are some that still function well, or can function differently. But they are stuck in the mind set and the whole bigger web of the NHS.

M Ok, so expand the bigger web and let’s fix that first.

L The bigger web is all about socialized medicine, you do just enough to get away with… they can’t afford to give everybody, or they don’t think they can give everybody the best health care possible. They are missing the picture that if they were really proactive and really able to do what people needed there would be less people in it. But I think it’s created a… sigh, it’s like people are dependent on the system more than they need to be because it’s free.

M Ok, do we need to fix the people who are dependent next? Because we need to go out big enough and then come into society in general? (Side note: Whenever you are working on a situation to learn from it you start from the biggest picture first and work in, with others, and then with yourself. Also, these are her personal beliefs—-it doesn’t matter if they are true or not, it is the picture in her mind we want to work with here.)

L Ok, it spreads not only in the UK but through Europe, it’s about listening to your body. If they taught the people in health care and people using it….If they taught it in schools, when you grew up to be aware of your body and your thoughts, and to really trust your intuition with it, and to apply different testing like you were doing with me with the different drugs… if they believed in the possibility of other things other than drugs to be able to solve things.

M If they did a mass education…?

L Yes, huge amounts of stuff that would empower people!

M Well helping people be responsible for their own health.

L Helping people be responsible for their own health, yes, but also being responsible for THEIR own personal health, so that people walked their talk on both sides of the fence… if there was no fence. If everybody was in for healthcare… well like there are places, like I think in Taiwan, you don’t pay the doctor unless the doctor helps you get well. So the doctor has your best interest in mind just as you do. And it’s a totally opposite way of looking at health. So… they’re more upfront and honest about it and if somebody can’t do something…

M They are willing to look elsewhere and find something that will work?

L Yes, and to really be honest about what works and what doesn’t work, so it’s not just taking the book and saying one size fits all or even splitting it into the groups like the people who are more susceptible to flu will get it (the flu shot) and more looking at does it work specifically more attention to detail. OK. If we give all society that ability to work together on health, to be educated about our bodies and how they run and how they work, and tap into the latest findings, then everybody sees it, the doctor’s office probably wouldn’t be so crowded, so difficult to get into, because things would develop from that if more people were on the same page about health. Ahhhhh, soooo, if that were the case…

M Then she wouldn’t have so much power for her little knowledge?

L What I see, is by now they would have created some sort of computer diagnostic that would pull up whether it was actually compatible with you specifically. It wouldn’t be such generalized diagnosis.

M That would be interesting…

L So let’s say it was like that, if she had that ability, she would have taken my whole picture into account and probably said, “You know it may be helpful for you but not right now. First you need to get to a state of better health before we take any risk of giving you the inoculations.”

M What inoculation do you think affected you?

L I am not sure, I got a pneumonia shot that supposedly lasts for life and this year’s flu and I am feeling kind of symptoms of both. Like it almost immediately, within the week, it went into the lungs and I was feeling it in my chest which to me correlates to the pneumonia shot. It would have been better for her to say, “Let’s take a look at your specific situation and records and see if this is appropriate.”

M Ok, so now let’s back up time, let’s back up time before you got the shot and look at your lungs and sinuses. Now, back up time and slow everything down to when you got the first shot… just imagine that you start with the pneumonia shot and see if there is any reaction in your lungs and chest?

L I don’t see any reaction.

M I don’t think it’s the pneumonia… now watch your body as you get the flu shot.

[Long pause]

L My mind keeps interjecting other things that could have possibly contributed, such as… Monday I went into see the Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor and he changed my herbs, of which I only had one packet and he actually lessened them quite a lot so I don’t think that is it. (Side note: There is a need to desensitize the experiences to become more objective and we are doing it by changing the experiences to black and white movies.)

M Make a list of all the things that are interjecting here that you think that might have affected it, then one at a time, change them into a b&w movies. Change all the extra things into a b&w movies.

L Ok, I am writing them down, Chinese medicine, massage, wool blanket…

[Lorry checks each thing that happened.]

M Leave the shot issue there, but change all the other things you did…. I think some of it was the nurse. Maybe you need to go back and change the original to b&w too but let’s change these other possibilities first.

Change all of the extra things to black & white. Once it is changed to b&w we can look back at your body and see if anything has changed. Your body then thinks it happened to somebody else then if you change it to b&w or cartoon or something. See if there is any change in your body image. (Lorry goes through each thing that happened playing it like a cartoon and black and white)

Okay, now let’s look back at your body image out in front of you, you know the image you had before, is anything different with the image… with the sinuses and your chest?

L Okay, yes, it looks like my head is not quite as puffy and my cheek bones for some reason kind of stood out to me, which is a good sign….it’s like the congestion is just in the top half from my nose up and in one part its gone.

M Alright, now what’s the 3rd thing on your list?

L The 3rd thing on my list, which just happened last night, so… until last night I was feeling just the coughing and the congestion, not the stuffy head nose stuff that came this morning. I had put a new wool blanket on the bed and I had a question as I was putting it on the bed… it’s a really nice blanket, but it had a kind of scent to it and I wondered if I should be putting it on the bed. And if I put that out in front of me, it’s like the fibers in it…

M You are allergic to something in that blanket?

L I see what is in my head out in front of me is a blown up version of those fibers.

M Okay, let’s go back and look at the blanket before you are putting it on the bed. Change all that to b&w, make that a b&w movie.

L Okay…silence (while Lorry visualizes)…. Okay.

M Alright, now I want you to think of something that would have fibers that you don’t believe you are allergic to and don’t bother you.

L Um, I am thinking for some reason the little green scrunchy stuff on a scouring sponge.

M It stays outside you, your body doesn’t react to it right?

L Uh, huh.

M Okay, now tell your body to put that blanket in the same place as you have put that sponge.

L Like to file them in the same place?

M Yeah, there are plenty of things that are constantly around us and going through us that we don’t react to, so it is our body/mind’s choice of what it reacts to. If it doesn’t bother someone else it doesn’t have to bother us. Change the smell to some kind of fresh scent, fresh air, change the smell to a pleasant fresh smell, like mountain air.

(Silence…the sound of breathing as she makes these visual changes.]

M Yes, take a little time. With the sponge, do you have some kind of border around the image that it doesn’t bother you? You need to do the same to the blanket so that it is filed in the same place. Let me know when you’ve done that.

L I have to put both in front of me in my hands. Because one is some much bigger than the other my head is caught in that so I need to put them side by side in front of me. This is just a sponge, the blanket though…. Hmmmm, it’s like it has a whole bunch of stuff attached to it, its, its, it’s like it has a history in it… it wasn’t fresh when I got it, it was second-hand from my sister. Ok, so…

M Make it fresh, how can you make it fresh for you?

L I really feel like I want to take it off and get rid of it.

M Well, you can do that but…

L But I don’t have to?

M There is some history you are intuitively picking up on but if you change all that to b&w and change the smell then… well, I know from my own experience that I can get rid a lot of smells using the smell of Fabrize©.

L I can’t change with Fabrize© because I have allergy connotations with Fabrize©.

M Oh okay, in your mind take it off and change it to b&w and add a new smell.

Is there something with your sister that would connect with it too?

L Very well might be. Ah. She had a cat…

M You are going to have to change all that to b&w, all those pictures of the cat, anything you’re your sister… this is going to take some time, go ahead and do all that.

L Okay…. I am going to shake all those memories off the blanket, it’s not hers, its mine, I am going to shake her off and all her stuff off it…. It’s now mine; I am going to shake her off of it…. It’s mine, I am going to shake her off of it…. It’s all gone to b&w, it’s all gone to ash… oh, not ash, maybe um…. Ok, whatever its history just send it in the wind, (making wind noises) shake it out, shake it out, shake it out.

[Lorry in retrospect: Sometimes it helps a person visualize when they can say out loud or mumble what they are seeing in their head as they see it… it’s a creative process like writing a book or script. I hear my little girl voice—-“It’s mine, it’s mine.” I recognized this in the process and at the same time, I didn’t edit the words but I edited how the voice in my head said the words so by the last words, I could hear my voice as an adult that could take responsibility for my perceptions and experience allowing any past grievances to float away with the wind.”]

Okay, it’s now a black & white blanket and I want to change it back to color is that okay?

M Yep.

L Okay, I have water colors, I am going to paint purple on these black stripe and I am going to paint these other strips teal, paint them teal, and what other colors? I think there are little strips of orange; I am painting a tangerine in there and there. And it has a smell of fresh cotton now, hanging in the breeze, it’s really thick cotton like it has some weight to it… nice, I really like it!

M Now if you are to put that on your bed what happens?

L Deep breaths…breathing out, breathing in, breathing out, breathing in… Okay now I am going to imagine sleeping with it, sleeping with it, waking up and being able to breath clearly, sleeping with it, it’s all fresh, it’s all fresh, I breath easily, the sky is blue, when it is dark out it is clear skies, I am laying there sleeping really well with it, sleeping really well snuggled up in my nice fresh blanket, I wake up in the morning, I can breathe clearly through my nose, it feels like springtime, even though it is autumn.

Ahhhhhhh…I had an image of autumn as a little bit musty and I had to change it to the freshness of snow, there is clarity to the cool spring air, too. Everything is fresh.

M Yeah, it is really how we think about it and we have to change it so it does not affect us.

L Yes, it is interesting because this weekend when I was feeling the chest cold stuff, I had my husband drop me off at a park that I don’t usually go to and it had some beautiful gardens that were mostly dead but beautiful dead things and new autumn flowers. I took loads of photos because it all felt like the freshness of autumn and not the muskiness which I link to illness… sneezing, difficulty breathing. So I maybe need to work with those pictures and integrate them into my picture or autumn to shift what autumn feels like?

M All right, sounds good.

L I am still feeling like I need to take the blanket off tonight to sleep… I will take it off later… literally. Maybe I take it off and put it in a bag and let that freshness lock into it.

M You might want to hang it outside.

L Yeah, that’s a good idea.

M And let the air clean it.

L Yeah, a great idea, I will hang it outside, let the wind freshen it up and put it back on another time and test it.

M Now look back at your body feeling the systems and everything.

L My body is looking better, my head is looking better.

M Okay, leave it out there. Now let’s go back to the doctor’s office and play it with Blondie and making the doctor a cartoon character, and play it that way.

L Ha, ha, I don’t know why but I see the doctor as Dick Van Dyke. Well, I wonder if it is kind of like, Dick Van Dyke would never have acted like that and if I go in and that’s the case and I am Blondie (long pause… sigh…chuckling… ) Blondie thinks he’s a bit of a whack, and she leaves without getting the shots and says sarcastically, “And I thought I was a whack!”

[Lorry in retrospect: I felt my sense of humor returning at this point which was a good indicator that we were heading in the right direction.]

M Ha, ha, okay and now look at your body.

L Okay.

M You are sounding better.

[I can hear that Lorry’s voice is definitely clearer than when we started. We are on the phone so I cannot see her.]

L I am still stuffed up but I can hear my voice is sounding better.

M It sounds like there is less runny noise.

L Um, yeah, (snivel) so if I look at myself out there now, it’s like parts of myself look pretty normal but then there are still parts that look out of whack.

M Ok, alright, which parts look out of whack, let’s look specifically.

L It’s around the sinuses but it looks like… (pause) my head was completely swollen looking. The lower half of my face has gone to normal and the upper half is still lumpy. Like some of it got removed and some is still there.

M Okay, focus on the part that looks out of whack and notice what you think about and see what comes up.

L Um, uh, ok, ok, ok, what comes up is… this is a little bit of a fear that came up when I was talking to the TCM doctor. He was asking me if I had ever checked out if there is anything mechanical wrong. And what I said to him was, “No, I think I am afraid to.” He said, “You’re afraid to? What would make you afraid to?” I said, “I had a friend a few years ago who had really bad sinus problems, I didn’t even know she had bad sinus problems, and she had had some cancer behind the nose.” Yeah, this is totally about deformity.

M Yeah, you are so susceptible, you are so visual, anybody who has anything you apply to yourself at times. So what we want to do is look at your friend who told you that, and first of all, what are the things we need to give her that you might have assumed might have been some of the … is there anything that she does or eats or how she lives that might have affected her… or how she thinks, because biochemistry is important. There is always something to learn and if we leave it as unfinished business it can affect us.

L Well, yeah, certainly. She is highly religious, she’s not somebody that I know really well, but I know that she is highly religious and her husband is a minister. But even without that… Actually she is really vivacious and one of the most lovely and happy persons I have ever met. But there is something behind that thought that doesn’t quite compute. It’s her husband and… I don’t want to go into the whole drama of their life, um, but this is a little bit of something that has come up a couple of times with me that is a judgment thing…. Men whom I can see this attitude from them that is… I was thinking about this the other day because I was watching this guy and trying to observe why did I think this guy was arrogant? And I was looking at little details on his face. I felt the same kind of arrogance with her husband and what I said to myself was that they have a sense of self-importance which is really self-indulgence.

M What you are really looking at is the ego. And looking at the ego and how… if he really put his ego aside and he could manage…. Self-indulgence is like the inability to manage his own behavior, self-control, isn’t it?

L Hmm… self-indulgence is kind of narcissistic. What I see and their happiness is more important… um…ok, so this is where it crosses the fine line. What I was going to say was their happiness is more important than anyone else. But our happiness should be more important but there is that fine line where… their happiness is more important than anyone else’s.

M Yeah, you do need to focus on yourself first, but…

L It’s beyond that though, it’s wanting to project that into the world, it’s a false happiness, it’s a… it’s a fear…

M I know what you are saying but how do you describe it?

L It’s actually like covering up a fear, it’s putting on a façade, it isn’t real. That’s what I see in both of them.

M Well, it’s the difference between… when you said self-indulgence, it’s when happiness doesn’t come from true learning and seeing life as a learning journey and true compassion and love. Happiness in the X System goes into self-indulgence and dysfunction… instead of staying balanced. It’s somehow imbalanced.

L It’s imbalanced and it has to do with…wearing a mask and wanting people to believe that you are something that you are not, when actually it causes people to see that you are not that something you are trying to project. Its fruitless behavior…

M Right, people can see it, well, not everyone will see it, they want to believe it.

L Ok, so what do they need instead? Actual true belief in themselves.

M Yes true belief in their journey and their spiritual connection?

L Yeah, to not have to have any façade and to walk their talk…to live truth rather than preach truth.

M Yes, to live it, now see what they would look like that way.

L (Long pause) Okay, I am working with the two of them side by side, she and her husband. Ya, that’s the big one, to be able to walk their talk and truly be egoless or soulful people.

M Right, then they would be truly happy and her chemistry would be different.

L Ah, that’s interesting, what I saw right away is that they would connect with people in the way that they want to connect with each other without having to try. It would just come naturally.

M And then how would her health be?

L So… if he was like that…her health… It wouldn’t have had to go to that place of… of… let’s see…. It’s kind of like she had health issues before that…and something about their relationship triggered it to come back. And what I see is that she wasn’t… she still wasn’t seeing him for who he is.

[It’s important to allow time for pictures to form naturally so there may be a lot of ums, hmmms, and eye movement while a person feels their way to the crux of the issue.)

M Well, what I believe is that the soul, you know, each of us when we get caught in some kind of learning journey that we don’t really want to be in, we start to leave the earth. It doesn’t matter…

L It’s interesting that you say that, because I have been having a lot of thoughts that I am on my way to leaving the earth.

M Well, it’s a choice… we have to find a new journey; I understand, I have been there. We find a new mission, our world, our life. That’s when I found the Emotionology mission… I was intuitively recognizing it was time…I had completed my journey and I was intuitively thinking I might leave the earth. And then I found this information and there was a reason to stay here. Now I realize there is a reason to stay here just to have more experience for as long as we want.

L So did you direct it that way? Or were you actively seeking something else? Or did the Emotionology just…

M No, I had this intuition…I started to tell my daughters… you know if anything… you know I kind of started to turn over the journey of my boys. I didn’t really talk about it, but I was intuitively thinking, “I am not going to live too much longer.”

L Yeah, I have been thinking I need to get my things in order. I need to put that as a high priority in case…

M Well, I was putting my things in order then I read this book that, kind of …. It was Shirley McLane’s, ‘Out on a Limb’.

L That’s funny I have wanted to read that book.

M It was before I found NLP. I really was recognizing on some level that I had completed the journey of whatever I had come to do… I had lost interest. Reading that book I realized there is so much more to life than what we see… and then I went through so much that happened to me and you know I started to see life as a journey and accept whatever I am trying to learn and once I did that, it’s like I ended up… well, I ran into quite a lot of a few things. I met that psychic and experienced a lot of things… she’s not alive any more. Then I very mystically, by accident, found NLP and that was sooo directed beyond me. It was such a coincidence…so many things have to line up to create a coincidence like us talking today… one way that you know your life is being directed is by recognizing these coincidences.

L I used to notice those a lot more and I have been thinking about this… it’s funny because I have been thinking about the whole mystical kind of thing which I really got into the last time I was really really sick and just shortly after that was when I met you.

M The Universe has a direction for you and… anyway so… it’s just the old mission is dying and the new mission is evolving. So back to this woman who you were looking at and her husband, had they had different thinking, she wouldn’t have needed to get cancer to leave the earth.

L All the sudden I got the sense that she needed the cancer in order to test him and see if his love was true.

M Oh, and how did it work out?

L It was, he rose to the occasion that she always wanted, they are still together, they seem closer than ever.

M So, take that information and recognizing that and look at your sinuses now.

L It’s not my journey, it’s not my journey, it’s not my journey.

M And maybe you need to put that back there when you heard it and say “cancel cancel.”

L It wasn’t even hearing it, it was seeing it and it was kind of horrifying.

M But what you need to do, is redo the part where you were in the doc office and brought that up and he said have you checked if anything is mechanical. Knowing it is her journey and not your journey how would you respond to that TCM doctor when asked if it is anything mechanical. When the thought came in, if you knew that we had fixed her journey… that thought would be different.

L My sense is that it is not mechanical and I don’t know why I didn’t stick to that…. I said that at first and then I corrected it.

M Well, you had that memory of her pop up so now where are we? Oh, look back at the image of your face and the cold. What’s happened to the part that you saw deformed like?

L The bumpy part… um, um… I had to put myself out there fresh again… it doesn’t look bumpy…it’s like on the outside everything looks… more normal, except for strictly around the middle, the nose, the top of the nose and between the eyes.

M So focus on that part until you have a thought.

L Uh, uh, it’s like a big knot, what is that? It’s like tightness, at first I got a sense of, I saw a spool, like a tightly woven spool.

M Keep looking at it, what memories does that bring up? What thoughts or memories

L What came up was my mom sewing a lot when I was young, I see the sewing machine.

M Okay, what does that have to do with?

L Uh…ok, I see a couple of things that have to do with… kind of a smell and (laugh) and… the lint that would come out of the sewing machine. When I first saw it, it was like the lint balls were REALLY big, kind of like dust bunnies only huge, like the size tumbleweeds. So around that… well, it has kind of jumped around from different ages so I am just focusing on this area of the house, oh weird (chuckles), this area of the house feels like the same congestion, it’s kind of in the middle of the house, the FEELING of it is the same as the FEELING of my nose in the middle of my head. So if I pull myself out of the house and I look down on it, that part of the house is in the same place as if I pull myself out of my body and look down on my head. They are in the same place and they are wound…

M So use some words to describe that.

L Congested, compact, too much in one place (M – stuffy), too tight

M Okay, use opposite words as you expand that space and open it up and let it, you know… [side note: This is actually part of the overwhelm technique]

L Ok, if I expand that space and open it up, it needs to breath, it needs to…

M Just say to yourself there is space for everything…

L There is space for everything, it’s organized, functioning… it was in the hallway so it was blocking stuff and there’s…. ok, it was like there wasn’t room to breathe there, there wasn’t room for everything to happen. And it was collecting dust and collecting…

M Okay so what do you need to do to change that?

L Sweep…expand it out, ok, I need to give it the magic ability to create space there or do I relocate it to somewhere else?

M First change it to a b&w photo of that space…and change yourself to a cartoon character.

L And what I see is my mom there too and it was like my mom’s only little space that was hers, and yet everybody was going through it all the time.

M So there was something about your mom there.

L When my mom wanted to… she would sew, and it was like her way of getting away from us and I resented it sometimes because I wanted her to play with me.

M What do you have to give your mom so, you know…

L Well, if I give my mom the ability to pull that stuff out and if she could recognize that she needed some space and a place that was all her own so that she could breathe from the kids without leaving the kids… well, she could leave me on her own… but if she could unconventionally move her stuff into the dining room and said, you know… it’s really important for me to have this…then I could be playing around her, there would be enough room for her to work and me playing without feeling like my mom was hiding. She was like hiding from life.

M What does she need inside… you got to give her what she needed to deal with life.

L She needed a voice to say what it was that she needed, she needed to feel worthy that she deserved to have her own space and not only did she deserve it she needed to know that it was to her health and the health of the kids for her to be able to breathe. And not feel so tense and not want to hide.

M So what are the things you need to put back in the past so that it would give her that?

L She needed to value herself and to value her existence, and to know that she was worthy, and she was worthwhile no matter what and that her happiness was important. She needed to value her own happiness and that she didn’t need to sacrifice for our happiness…because we weren’t happy because she wasn’t happy.

M So what do you give her to make her happy?

L If she knew she could be happy and her happiness would rub off on us automatically, if she made nice choices for herself then the world would see what a lovely person she is, she could never express and really realize it because she couldn’t believe. So if I give her the ability to believe that she is a lovely person, she does have a good heart she is worthwhile, she is loved, and she could see the love of her family, and know she was loved by the universe, and more importantly herself, and the people and places around her, and at the root of everything is love, and if she felt that love was the basis, the seed of everything, and if her parents loved themselves and her family loved, each of themselves loved their own self…

M They have to be free to love themselves.

L …and if they did they wouldn’t have treated her the way they did and she would have grown up feeling loved and when she met her husband, she would have made her values right from the beginning and see if he still wanted to be with her. And he was so in love with her he would look at his own values and really question them and begin to understand how they drive things and how he was the driver of his life…he wouldn’t have allowed his family to drive all his actions. And if THAT were the case they would have grown through this marriage with a WHOLE different attitude that wasn’t tied co-dependently to their families but was supported through the love of their families independently as individuals because each person… this ties into what we were doing the other day…. If each person encapsulated their own love for themselves. Ok, so they would grow up having that, she would have kids, my brothers and sisters coming before me would have even maybe pointed it out to her if she wasn’t getting this space that she needed to be able to feel happy and whole and healthy. She wouldn’t have necessarily needed the space, the space would have felt different, it wouldn’t need to be a hiding space, she would have painted it a brighter color, she might have taken it to an open area but she wouldn’t have needed to. I would have felt… included in her world rather than separated from it.

M So how would the air have seemed and the feeling been then?

L Well, with that awareness she would have appreciated, things wouldn’t have stagnated there, it wouldn’t have been a dumping ground for thoughts and feelings, and all this stuff that was getting stuck in there, that she was letting out into her sewing, so it was like bad vibes going into the room and shutting the door, if she felt all that good about herself, she wouldn’t have had all those feelings to seep into that area, it would have been… ok, looking down at it from above, it would start breathing life into it… could it be the hub of life, lifeless…. What am I trying to say??? (chuckle) breathing, open, flowing, flowing, flowing, ahhh, ok, so there was congestion that it created bad feng shui in the house, it created congestion in the middle of the house, so then they would have re-arranged the rooms and knocked out the walls…

M And what would you have looked like as a little girl then?

L I wanted to be able to run and play and feel free in the house…I would have that at home, yeah, it just kind of spun off a little bit further into the future, when I left home.

M Did you repeat those places for yourself? It’s possible that if you had that openness, then would other things have been different in the future. What would have changed?

L Um, um…sigh… I had pent up energy that was looking for a place to get out. Ok, I am seeing myself and I am trying to go into… wow, it’s like a whole new web of stuff came up. Ugh!

M Oh, a whole new web of stuff, where you re-created that congestion?

L Yeah, it’s kind of this sense of like always holding back, like… sigh…. Well, and I …. Ok…

M That’s okay, keep going with it

L (big sigh…) Ohhh, ok, the place that I go to is, I went to an open space school, the 2nd half of elementary school, it was one big room, the whole school and the classrooms were divided up with 5 or 6 ft dividers, so what came to me was when I was looking at the house and being free to express and run…there was something kind of oppressive in the school but I went back to the house and I wondered what was oppressive in the house. It was my mom, she was always trying to quiet me because she was afraid I was going to get sick, and what she didn’t realize is that I needed an outlet for my energy… I had too much energy that wasn’t getting released.

M Right. That’s congestion.

L That’s congestion. So it doesn’t necessarily have to do with the sewing room but getting away from the sewing room so she taught me how to do a lot of sedentary type of activities because she didn’t want me getting sick.

M So you have to take her fear away maybe take this you to go talk to her and explain to her that you are going to live and what you need.

L I am going to live and I NEED, I needed that space and that ability to breathe.

M Mentally as well as physically.

L Yes! My mind was running too much all the time

M Okay, so see what you need to do to give that info to your mother to change that…

L Ok, so if I went back there, my mom was a young mother, she raised other kids, um, ok, I would tell her to put down the baby books, the Dr Spock, the books on how to, and teach her to tap into her own intuition, and to trust herself, and to know that she… to tell her that she innately knows what to do and she doesn’t need to be afraid, because I also know what I need if I listen to my body, and if I am in tune with my body I can tell when it is getting out of whack and I can make adjustments before it gets too extreme if I am taught to be aware of my body. So if she has that knowledge and I see her teaching me that as a kid, teaching her about her own ability and believing in herself, and if I grew up with that, I wouldn’t be coming to her saying “Mommy, let’s take a little time out, I am feeling this.” And we would work it out together. And if we did that through our whole lives, of working on problems together…seeing what is needed, what the beliefs are, what the values are, sigh, I would have grown up breathing, the house would be breathing, the kids would be breathing, it would be, light, healthy, the whole house is an organism, within the neighborhood, each house has its own life and breath of the people in it. Ahhhh, ok. Wow the whole family would be different and we wouldn’t have the health issues, and my dad would believe more in my mom and see the proof of it and letting go of his family who had really different belief systems. They couldn’t take on board that he would see that there was a new way. And then the whole family would be in touch.

M Ok, so that would generalize through your life through the future wouldn’t it?

L Yeah, I will put that through my future, each time illness would come, we wouldn’t rely on the doctors at all…they would have to understand this way of living and believing. (Thought of religious groups that don’t believe in doctors – not really what I had in mind, but now I can understand it more.) Growing up through my life I would have felt resourceful like I really understood my body better than anyone, anything.

M How would that have changed things? The body buys into every thought we have and every picture we hold in every memory.

L It’s overwhelming to think how huge, how different that would be. To take it all through life there are so many instances and situations that would have been different. It’s like my life as I know it now wouldn’t have existed. It would have been completely and totally different.

M Wow. Ok, Take the time to take that all the way up to today and look at your sinuses, at the image out in front of you.

L Okay, so I just did that really quickly… sigh, and I take it through to this moment and I kind of have a headache…it’s like the changes are too fast, too big I can’t deal with it.

M The body can change in an instant, it’s probably chemical changes. If you think about how fast the chemicals go through your body when anger is triggered. You have a similar response with different chemistry that goes through your body too. You’ve had a series of chemical changes here and if you look at your brain out there while it is processing that…what are you seeing?

L Um…um…chuckle… I am seeing it’s having trouble sending back the signals through the body because it’s got all this congestion in the way.

M So what do you have to do to clear out the congestion to be able to allow it free to move the signals. Just visually… Now mechanically look at your brain out there and what do you have to do? Hose it down, move it to b&w.

L I open the top of my head and I want to just scoop it all out. I am scooping it out and its funny because I am seeing mechanical bits and I tried hosing it out, just spraying all of that gunk, goop, I don’t want it to go down my throat though, so I am turning myself upside down. I have opened up my head, turned myself upside down, going to spray it all out, just get it into those little nooks and crannies, out of the cheeks, out of the cheeks, yep out of the cheeks, yeah, I feel the pressure coming off, pressure coming off, coming off… sniff… I’ve got to let it keep coming out, its thick, it’s like…. Move the pressure off, as I do so my face is getting more pliable, not so still, sighhhhh, its coming out of the cheeks, there is sooo much…I keep hosing it out, hosing it out, around the bridge of the nose, down around the eyes, down into those cavities, ahhhhh, blow it out through the nose…let it out… ok, out through the nose, come on spray it out, spray it out, clear it out, turn on the high pressure, get it out. This is taking a lot more than I was expecting because I am really needing to clean thoroughly.

M Yes, let it take whatever time you need… Now as each place cleans your body goes back to normal and health, the tissues bounce back into place and you feel free and clean (long pause) I get a sense with each hosing, it is hosing out all the old memories.

L Yeah, so I need to… that’s a good idea. I am still kind of working on the sinuses, may be hose around the top, hose around the brain, hose out those memories, clean the out, clean them out, soo many little nooks and crannies. Ha! Ok, I am going to take and squeeze the brain out, like a sponge, all that stuff it has been soaking up. I can’t lose anything good, lose anything I need, squeeze out all the stuff I don’t need, all the stuff I don’t need squeeze it out, squeeze it out, get it out, ahhhhhhh, all of it out. Ok, breathe; is there anything left in there?

M Feng shui of the brain! (laughs) Keep looking at it until you see if there are any other memories or … things—-generalize as you work on them.

L I don’t know, all around the nose there is tightness and crud. (snivel) okay, it’s like I can’t get at the lining around my nose.

&The Use of Metaphors&

M Okay, now focus on that part and see if anything comes up that represents it. What does the lining of the nose represent?

L Um, um… like a… I am getting a baseball glove, like my brother’s baseball glove or something. That’s what it looks like.

M Well, keep thinking and let it evolve naturally, what does that mean?

L (long pause) I can kind of go back when we were playing catch with my brother and the feel of that glove, catching the ball, it was a good feeling… think it is not the smell but the… originally it was about the shape and the tightness of it.

M Ok, maybe it’s a metaphor for that. What do you have to change with the glove?

Maybe it just needs to get broken in to health? Broken in to the new ideas… you know, like time, if your nose was familiar with health, if it was used to it and all the time behind it of feeling the experience of health… the glove gets experience then it gets pliable.

L Okay.

M It’s not that it gets older, but you have only experienced congestion, but if it had all the experience of freedom and…

L Hmmm, I see, it’s like trying to apply that idea to this glove—-like I am anthropomorphizing… the glove…. The glove is a metaphor, it represents the nose, relaxing. Okay, there we go, I can see it now. It’s like the glove as it gets older, it can relax and it doesn’t need to be so stiff. It naturally gets softer and…it is more experienced and it can relax with that experience and it knows what to do. Ok, the glove knows what to do… so what happens when the hand goes into the glove, what does that represent? That is like authority going into it. It’s like trying to create a symbiotic relationship between the hand and the glove, which is like trying to create a symbiotic relationship between society/life and my nose. Okay, so I am trying to…. aaaa…. (thinking/visualizing) the glove and the hand have to work together. They are not going to be useful at all unless they are working together. They can’t work alone, you can’t work the glove, if the glove tries to catch something coming at it without the hand it can’t do it, it can’t close up.

M Yeah, it can’t have the experience by itself

L If the hand tries to do it without the glove it hurts, it needs that experience as protection… it’s like a triangle here, because when the glove is new it is still protection but it has no experience so all it knows how to do is be still…

M So your nose is the glove, experience comes from living in the world.

L Yes, living in the world and allowing it to get some knocks in order to soften up. And all those knocks help it become pliable… so if it is more easily pliable it will fit more situations in society.

M Okay the glove learns from the experience of the hand just like we learn from the experience of being in the world, but if we don’t learn we are stiff… we must become pliable as we experience and learn…

L I wonder if there is something it needs to learn?

M You can be in the world but not of the world. As long as your learning isn’t backed up, you continue to flow with the world but when you don’t keep up with working on your stuff…

L Yes, without continual work it gets stiff… life gets stiff, our body gets stiff, our mind gets stiff, etc.

M Yes, in order to complete the learning it needs to be cleared out. That lining of your nose needs to know something. It needs to know that it doesn’t need to stay stiff, can you talk to that lining.

L It’s like it needs to know that it can still function just as well if not better.

M Having become pliable?

L Is it trying to get the moisture in order to become pliable? Rather than allowing the movement and the experience of life to make it pliable?

M When I was young I had been used to taking antihistamines too long…it had conditioned my mucus membranes to create too much fluid to make up for the antihistamines. These membranes are supposed to be slimy – not dry. So I had to communicate that to my mucus membranes that it didn’t need to produce quite so much because it was over working due to the antihistamines.

L Ah, so what it needs to know is that--- I want to keep working with the metaphor of the glove --- if the glove is soaking in water - that is not going to help it. The glove needs… it doesn’t need the water so much as it needs the movement to keep it pliable. And uh, the natural oils. I am thinking something here… there is like the skin of the glove and then there is the stuff that is in it. And I am producing too much, actually of the stuff that is in it. Argh… there is something convoluted here.

M That is often the case. What is convoluted?

L It’s the defining what the pieces are. We’ve got the leather of the glove is like my face, it’s what is holding in the mucus membrane and the mucus, and it’s just that it feels tight around my nose, it’s not true, we have the glove.

M It’s a boundary, what is the mucus membrane thinking that is making it…

L What is convoluted is where the mucus membrane is, you know the padded part of the glove, that is what I was initially thinking was the mucus membrane

M It was the lining wasn’t it? That is irritated.

L Yes, so if it is the lining that is irritated, that is the outside of the glove.

M If everything else is okay, it’s just some part of you got the wrong idea… it has another idea?

L Its idea is that it needs to keep producing moisture. It needs to know that I live in a moist climate already; I no longer live in Colorado.

M Well, also you need to know that the lining has an intelligence to follow the atmosphere. The lining needs to know that it is intelligent too. Just like you learned with your mother to follow your intuition…that part…

L Ah, ok, so the lining is like the glove that is a breathing living organism so if that glove knew that it was actually an organism and that it breathes also, it has needs, it has wants, it um…

M Think of the affirmation it needs and put it in there. First think of the information it needs and what it needs to understand. That it is a living breathing organism that has intelligence to know just what to do for you.

L And that it doesn’t need to do it.

M Well, you’ve taken medications that override so much and so that part of your body, different parts of the body get dependent on the medication and it quits thinking.

L Yeah, it’s making me sleepy. I think I need to sleep on this and allow the images to transform. It seems like it has moved down to just in my nostrils and not so much in the top of my head. But, as you can tell, I can’t breathe through my nose still.

M The body/mind takes a little while to respond and process sometimes.

L It’s been sitting. I need to pull the glove out of the water and dry out.

M Take a rest, get rid of that blanket for now and go to bed.

L I am in bed so that will be easy.

END of session

&Next Session – Phobia technique, visualization and the power of suggestion&

M You sound a so much better.

L I am better. It got a lot worse though after we hung up last time but then it turned around by the next morning.

I came up with a term for the technique where I put myself out in front of myself to test the work… it’s like Visual Kinesiology… you know kinesiology is testing muscle with your arm out but this is really the same thing with pictures… you are looking at it visually.

M That’s a good term for it. The technique is a take-off of Diltz Health allergy technique. So it’s a good way to… communicate with your body. The body communicates more in pictures, it communicates in feeling too but pictures are more accurate I think.

L Maybe or it might just be what a person takes to naturally. Like I haven’t had good success with kinesiology on myself.

M Well even people who do it, I find are really subjective.

L This is subjective too because your logical mind can slip in there and manipulate it.

M I think you can just put that pic out there and observe it. Even if you manipulate it, it doesn’t matter because by manipulating that pic you can make a change in your body’s programming.

L Oh, okay.

M You can do two things with it:

1. You can observe when you think about things how the pic changes

2. You can think about the symptom and put information in the picture to communicate to the body. By actually fixing the picture you communicate to the body that it doesn’t need to respond that way.

L Right, like what we did with the blanket. We turned it to black and white and then I turned it to cotton and repainted it.

M Move the body part out in front of you again that was affecting you.

L (sneeze, sneeze)

M Ha, ha, you are sneezing! Ok, move your body out in front of you so you can see the issue. What are you looking at?

L Right now I am looking at my lungs.

M Okay, so move your lungs out where you can observe them and they’re in color and you can see what’s wrong with them.

L Okay

M Now move them further as you turn them black and white.

L Okay

M Now what do you need to do to fix the b&w pic? Can you see parts of the lung that are normal and compare what you can give the damaged part…. Like you have to figure out what you need to do to that pic to edit it.

L Yeah, sometimes it is easier for me to… like right now it’s easier for me to give it a metaphorical symbol.

M Ok

L The lungs… because I don’t really know what they look like but I have a sense of what they look like.

M It’s just whatever you picture in your mind

L Yes, that’s what I mean.

M Now if you are going to edit the b&w pic, or clean it up, what do you need to do?

L Well, its um….long pause… it needs to have more definition. It’s like the lungs are tight and they are blown up like a balloon and they need to shrink where you can see the ventricles.

M Well, somehow if you put some clarity in that and…

L If I turn it into a pencil drawing, is what I see in my mind, it’s a b&w pencil drawing of my lungs as they are now… then I would go through and redraw, and lighten some areas and show the actual ventricles so that they don’t look swollen…they look more like… more like … a tree… Um um I don’t know how to describe it. Lol. They look like a healthy lung. Now that I have done that I want to fill them with air and inflate

M Okay, and then you bring them back in color after you’ve done that…

L Okay… (pausing) okay, so they are functioning normally. It’s interesting because I kind of could see it and see what was happening before. It’s like they were filling and then getting stuck. Now…. They are able to move in and out normally… steady…. Okay turn them to color, make the pink and fleshy bring them back into my body.

L Better.

M Feel what that feels like…

L Breathing, breathing big breaths in and out… okay so it doesn’t um… I like that so that it doesn’t matter that you are manipulating, you are creating what is to be.

M See now when you have done that you have actually told your lungs that’s what you want.

L See I am wondering if…on Monday we didn’t get to the end of it and I got overwhelmed and very sleepy which I wonder I left it open and exposed.

M Ha, ha, I don’t know. It is hypnotic to visualize, that is what you are doing when you are working with your mind that way, it is on a level of hypnosis or unconscious. So I don’t know maybe that’s just a thought that you left it open and exposed…Possibly…

L I would have to listen to the recording again and see, try to remember what I was seeing then… but I was kind of left with that thought and I tried to go back after sleeping but I couldn’t quite tap back into it again. This morning as I was trying to write it down from my memory there were parts of it that we worked on that I couldn’t pull up again. I thought that was probably good.

M Yeah, that’s good.

L They were enough of a non-issue now that I couldn’t recall what they were.

M You probably went to sleep and your mind could complete it when you were sleeping

L Yeah, like putting things into motion.

M Yeah, cool.

L As long as I am having symptoms I have to keep working on it until it is dissolved?

M Yeah, right. We can now work on it and continue to do more?

L Okay, right now I have a little tickle in my throat and some congestion.

M Okay, let’s start with the tickle in your throat.

L Okay, are we doing the same technique?

M Just focus on the feeling and first notice what thoughts come to you.

L The first thought that came to me was that there was a white feather in my throat… is what it felt like…

M What other ideas and thoughts come to you? Does it seem to you when you think about that tickle in your throat…

L It’s funny, I could see a feather…when I thought about that I immediately came to the pic of when I was a kid, and we had birds in a cage and there was a really distinctive… I think it was bird food, the bottom of the cage was lined with newspaper and on it were these little shells, cracked seeds… I was probably 5-6 years old, and there is a distinct smell that came to me and the sense of… of breathing in the particles of… dust or … that were created by these little shells on the bottom of the cage.

M Bird dander and bird seed…stuff like that…

L Yeah

M So what we want to do is play that memory using the phobia technique.

L Yeah, the thing is that I don’t have a strong memory of the sequence or even a strong picture.

M Yeah, but you do have a pretty good pic because you described it…

L Well I don’t have a pic of me in it, it’s not like anything is happening. I don’t see myself in the pic, just the cage.

M Okay, back yourself up…disassociate, back up so you can see yourself looking at the cage.

L Ah, okay, so I back up so I can see the back of my little blond head.

M Right, now change it to Goldilocks… or some character.

L Ok, Goldilocks works, so she has long curly hair instead.

M So change the birds to Tweety-bird or…

L Yeah, Tweedy-bird… multiple Tweedy-birds

M Okay now change the smell…to… some other smell…

L For some reason I want to change it to licorice.

M Oh okay…first change it to licorice and then change that to fresh baked bread.

L Ahhh, okay, Goldilocks is finding this to be a great smell, ok Tweety-bird if you could always do this.

M Laughs… ok, now clear your screen…now pull the picture back again and change it to an old fashioned b&w pic out of the movies and you know, a silent movie…

L I’m going to turn it into a b&w western movie.

M Okay

L I’ve got on a cowboy hat and boots (laughing) it’s a fancy Victorian b&w iron birdcage.

M Okay, and the interesting thing about way back then is that they didn’t have allergies because there was dust everywhere and their bodies could deal with it

L Okay, so I was a hardy little cowgirl.

M Ha, ha, right. Ok, now move the picture forward so it is behind you, like you go right through it. Move the picture closer and closer until it is behind you.

L Okay.

M Ok, so that should clear your screen. So now when you think about the tickle in your throat what do you come up with?

L Um, um….long pause

M What’s happened to the feather?

L Um…. The feather is not white, hmmm, it’s um it’s not one of the kind of feathery feathers it’s like a sleek… yeah, it’s like it could just slide down my throat if I wanted and it won’t tickle anything. So I can pull it out of my throat and just throw it away. Yeah, its adifferent kind of feather and more like black and brown and very smooth and oily.

M Huh. Alright so now let’s go to the congestion that you feel in your nose?

L No, it’s the congestion that I am coughing up…. I do have some in my nose, but I was thinking about what is in my lungs because they are still feeling tight… so if I take that pic I had before that is making them tight, what I see is that there are still some globules in there. Haha

M Okay, so now focus on those globules.

L Yeah, I want to smooth them out and polish them… laughs… I am sticking them out in front of me and I am turning them into…. Yay, because it was like they were the wrong material, and if they were smoother and sleeker and new fresh… kind of like hollow noodles…. Hollow noodles would be good because that is like cooked noodles, like that consistency in a way would be…. Pliable, except I want to see them stronger than that…. More kind of shiny plastic… ummm something more indestructible..

M So change it to that, change it to b&w and move the pic forward and move it until it is behind you.

L Okay, so change it to b&w….ok I am going to step through it

M So now I want to ask you, what are your beliefs… like if you could see yourself totally healthy in front of you, how much time would be between now and when you are totally healthy

L Hmmmm, I don’t know that I can… I am not getting a sense that I can be totally healthy, it’s like, the reality is overridden with…

M A belief?

&The Power of Beliefs&

L A belief that I was born this way… that I was born with some imperfections that will never be totally gone. The belief is that that is impossible.

M Okay, so in a way, beliefs are like wolves – they come in packs…so you have the belief that you were born that way and the belief that total health is impossible,

L Yes, and the belief that at this point in my life my body is scarred with my past, you know, so its every time I have been sick has left a scar on the inside… and I was told at one time that your lungs get scarred.

M So the belief that I was born this way and another belief that total health is impossible and you were told once that the lungs get scared and that your body is scarred with the past

L A huh, those sound like 4 separate issues but they are all tied together

M Yes, I can see how they are all tied together. What we want first of all to think about is how a tree in the forest never grows strong unless it has some resistance and some damage to it actually

L Oh, really?

M Uh huh, unless it has had to struggle with the wind and everything around it, it never really becomes a really strong tree

L Okay, I have a hard time believing that because I have a plant in my living room that is a rubber tree and it has done really well without any adverse conditions.

M Well, wait a min, if it’s in your living room, that’s adverse conditions to begin with … like if you have plants that you grow in a greenhouse and they are way too protected and then you put them out.

L You can’t just put them outside because it’s a shock.

M Right, so having a little bit of…it’s like that, resistance creates…

L Some strength.

M Yeah

L Yeah, and I would say there was a correlation like that with me growing up in the fact that…

M And also they know people that have lived, like other countries, people can survive all the parasites and different stuff because their body has learned to live with it. If we go there we have to be really careful.

L That’s true.

M It’s not resistance that creates strength but adverse conditions develop… what? Develops immunity and strength?

L Yeah, adverse conditions develop immunity, strength, resilience and well, certainly the belief that anything is possible. It’s funny because I am reading a book right now about a woman who rows a boat across the Atlantic. And she also talks about how her upbringing coincides with it. So while she is out rowing she thinks of these stories that coincide with her experience and I think of her as being almost the polar opposite of me. So how she grew up and the beliefs that she had… and so it’s interesting to see how she kind of…

M Say her belief again…

L Um, she believes... um… interesting. Ok, so she believes that she had to protect her brother and she believes her brother who is disabled has just as much right to anything on earth. She could weather anything… um, she got beat up a lot as a kid, and so because of that she became --- she built a really strong character. So she believed that she was certainly just as good or as strong or as capable of any of these boys that were beating her up. Or any person. Um… what else did she believe? She believed… (long pause while Lorry imagines the character) in hard work, perseverance, and creativity…and as long as the mind was working you had the ability to affect your destiny.

M She believed she had the ability to affect her destiny…

L Which I guess, maybe destiny is not the right word but she could think her way out of… creatively think her way out of most any situation, she BELIEVED there was a solution!

M Okay, I believe our natural state is health. Only when the body gets accustomed to illness it is that the natural state changes not to health

L Yeah, and when talking to my mom recently she said when I was born I was a healthy little baby.

M Yeah, you were a healthy baby.

L At some point in my first year of life… and I recently saw a show that it was shown if children get antibiotics in their first year of their life they will almost certainly develop allergies to something, that it actually kills a particular gene or something within the body.

M Okay, okay! I want you to think about that and say cancel cancel to yourself as you think about that, I don’t believe that has to be true, that’s only true for people that don’t know any better or don’t know any more.

L (Laughs) Okay, cancel cancel, its not true for me. It’s funny because I am not sure cancel cancel works for me, the reason why is because there is a link to that with someone I know…maybe I just need different words, like wipe the slate clean probably works better for me…OK. So I wiped the slate clean there.

M …you mom told you that you were a healthy baby?

L Yes, just recently.

M So what if you mom knew other things were possible what would she say?

L Well she wouldn’t have to say anything because if she believed that I probably wouldn’t have grown up with any of this… because I was the tree growing up in the greenhouse.

M Right so her slate needs to be wiped clean?

L She spent a lot of time protecting me, yeah, I need to wipe her slate clean. And I had apparently the belief that it was… that I didn’t need her protection so much. Ok so I am going to go back to that picture because what I have is a pic of her when I was very young… trying to keep me safe at night, and…

M Give you mother the idea that adverse conditions give you immunity resistance and strength.

L Adverse conditions develop immunity resistance and strength, and if she told me that, and she believed that… ohhhh, adverse conditions develop immunity strength and resistance…I’ve got to get a pic of that… (Lorry mumbles to herself…) develop immunity resistance and strength, develop immunity resistance and strength. So what I am doing is picturing me on the bed with my mom, and my mom telling me this… and I want to see how I take that on, I want to see myself really believing that…

M Well, first see her believing that, what would she look like if she believed that?

L For some reason that was really easy. See she actually already believes that, my mom has already believed that for herself. She has always been very healthy. Oh, this might be a piece I need to fix though because she believed that for herself because that is how she grew up. So she didn’t… but she resented that in her growing up and she wanted it to be different for me. Because she wanted protection that she didn’t get growing up. And so she wanted to make sure she protected me in the way she never got the protection. And so what she didn’t see how that allowed her… well, she grew up very strong, never sick… hmmm she had immunity strength and resistance and wasn’t allowed to be sick so she never did. She grew up on a farm, difficult times, worked also, were exposed to a lot of things… I come along in her world… I don’t know what happened to my other siblings, but when I came along she saw something and decided she needed to protect this child. So instead of protecting me, if she saw how her growing up and resented that, if she saw how that was a benefit in her life… and could accept that…

M Well, she needs to forgive the people that didn’t protect her somehow.

L Okay, so if I see her having an “aha moment” and in her mind forgiving each of her family, and instead she is being thankful. Because she recognizes she is strong and resilient and… capable and immune… ok, so she takes that sense on, she catches herself as she starts to say to me, how she starts to have to protect. She says, trust me, [laughing] uh, uh, she says I have…strength, um, um,,, why can’t I get those words…

M Well, just watch it…

L You will become, become… hmmm something is not flowing here.

M So instead she would say to you…. You can get better because of this…. Or what would she say?

L That’s what I am trying to get… she’s my mother, she doesn’t want to see me suffering so she, she has to have a bit of tough love kind of feeling and yet compassion…

M So see her with that…

L She says, “Listen, you are strong, you can…”

M You were born healthy.

L “…you were born healthy, and you can fight this off, you don’t need to accept illness, it is not something you need to take on, you can be immune to it through your thoughts.”

M It sounds like your illness was a confirmation of her beliefs.

L Um, I’m not sure.

M In a bigger picture.

L Yeah, in a bigger picture, it probably was… I don’t know if it was a confirmation of her beliefs but it was an opportunity to fulfill her beliefs.

M Yeah, same thing kind of thing said in a different way.

L Yeah, I can see that now. Ok, so she needs to say, “You know, you don’t need to be sick, I will love you, I will protect you regardless, but you don’t need my protection because you can have your own sense of strength. And with that will come resistance to illness and…a strong immune system, and…”

M A body intelligence that knows…allows…

L “…listen to your body and work with your body, let it know it can remain healthy, you don’t need to accept illness for protection sake, you don’t need to do it for my sake [mom talking] you don’t need to do it for love, you don’t need to do it for any reason you can just think it and you can have that.”

M Okay, now let’s take the body where you had that thought that the body is scared with the past and you were told that the lungs get scarred.

L Well, if I learned from an early age that the body can heal itself then…

M Well, let me tell you about something that might add to your information… I understand that when somebody quits smoking it only takes 3 -6 months for the lungs to completely heal from that or get cleaned up.

L Really? They can completely regenerate?

M They can completely regenerate.

L Because they are made up of cells like anything else?

M Yes, so if that is true, how can you be told that they body gets scarred.

L Okay, so, it was a nurse who told me that, I need to look at her.

M Okay, wipe her slate clean.

L Right, wipe her slate clean for all I know she was telling me something that wasn’t true…. There was a sense that she was trying to scare me into using my meds. She was caught up in the system of thinking… how do I say this…. Um,,,, it’s kind of X system in the medical industry.

M Yes, you have to do as I am told because that is what we…

L And so if she had a more open mind, and um, had come across different learning/info and was able to test that info in a way that she tested for her medical exams and whatever else is around that for her personally, I don’t know, fix that in her to where she didn’t feel compelled that she needed to say that to me because she didn’t need to force that medication on me, she was seeing it because she wanted to trick me into using more medication than I said I was using.

M Oh, ok… its control.

L Yep it was a power kind of move, so if she saw people as individuals and that might be appropriate for somebody but it wasn’t necessarily for me.

M Well, it might be appropriate for somebody who doesn’t want to take care of themselves or doesn’t think for themselves.

L Yeah, so she needs to see her patients as individuals with different beliefs, just as she needs to see herself as an individual who has her own beliefs and doesn’t need to just buy into the system. Ok, so if she has that she wouldn’t have felt compelled… she would have seen right away that I have, um, been in control of my meds for a long time.

M You think for yourself and that you’re taking care of yourself.

L Yes, there was no reason she needed to say that and have the power over me.

M Okay, so let’s take one more piece of info… they say that in one year every cell in your body replaced , every year…the body is intelligent, but it follows the learned messages of the mind, so the beliefs you take on, and the experiences you have, influence how those cells are replaced every year.

L Right, so it either replaces them exactly as they were because you’ve told it to or they regenerate to something new because you’ve told it to.

M Right.

L So we’ve got to talk to those cells.

M So by communicating…. See we put that communication in the image out there in the body and in your beliefs, see your body operates strictly by your beliefs. So if you hold this as a 100% belief that the natural state is health and that you were born healthy and that these other beliefs and that adverse conditions develop immunity, resistance, and strength and you’ve changed all the past memories that have influenced it… that you have taken information in that had influenced your body to reproduce differently than health. Then, what do you come to?

L Well, you come to total control over your health.

M You’re back in control of your health through your own mind. And it’s finding the pieces where your body got miss-information and followed the wrong path.

L Yeah, and bought into a belief that wasn’t serving me.

&Timeline Work&

M So now, let’s have you set up a timeline on the floor so we can work on your health issue another way.

L Okay.

M So you have today and where you are born as a line on the floor and put some pieces of paper where you maybe began to not be healthy? Or where you had significant health issues … where that nurse said that, or where you had the birds in the cage, where…

L [tearing paper into squares to write on]

M Tell me where the significant places would be that you would need to mark on your floor/timeline…all beliefs you were affected by, or all times you were sick and tell me what they are.

L Ha, ha, you see I could have hundreds… I will mark just the major ones and are we talking any kind of illness or just things that have to do with the lungs?

M Anything that is affecting you not feeling healthy today.

L Things like having asthma or allergies, they’re not a specific incidence, until they came to crisis point, so I guess I am putting the crisis points down

M Right, so put the crisis points down

L Okay. Age 7 – hospital with asthma attack

5th grade, 11 years old – serious reaction after allergy shot, playing in leaves….

M Well, it doesn’t have to be too detailed… all we are doing is putting things down so that you can visualize your life on that line and see places that you can connect with that seem like significant health issues. Just put them up as you think of them, anywhere on your timeline. What we are looking at things that were a hit to your health…

L Okay, I am taking a huge jump up to 1999

M Okay.

L 9-9-1999, um… well probably a year, let’s see, so that was asthma attack hospital. And there was 2007 bicycle accident. I remember numerous times being home or having a cold and they are kind of general. I remember a time I was home, sometime during the War in Kuwait, and I remember I was having some sort of bad illness and watching tv all day and got really depressed after watching it… but I can’t remember significantly what was wrong with me. I don’t know if it is because we worked on a bunch of them but I am just having a hard time… even though I know they existed…

M Well, you don’t need very many.

L Okay, I have 5 and I will put today… or this last weekend… this last month

M And then you have today marked, right? now I want you to honor that if you are on that line, you are in that time of your life.

L Okay

M So if you step on that line you are that age. So now what we want to do is look from a distance at your whole timeline all the way back to being a child, before the time you were a healthy baby. At what age would you see yourself that your mother told you, you were a healthy baby?

L 0-6months

M Okay, so see that healthy baby…and have the today you walk over there now to that little baby and pick her up in your mind, in your hands and tell her… be communicating to her that she can have a healthy journey. She doesn’t have to take her mother’s learning journey which is about protection and ill-health. You want to give her a different destiny.

L Well, what I want to tell her is to see her mother’s journey that was strong and resilient.

M Okay, and well, her mother’s journey for her is not her journey. She doesn’t have to have her mother’s beliefs.

L No but she can see her mother’s true self.

M Right, and give her that idea that adverse conditions develop immunity resistance, resilience, health, and strength.

L Okay

M And that every year her cells are replaced and will follow the message of her mind so you want to tell her ahead of time how you want her to think and live and what you want her to believe… now you are communicating to that little baby and that on some level…she understands.

L Right. Which is kind of more of a thought… I am just going to take a minute and do this. It’s like telepathy.

[Silence for a few minutes while Lucy completes the visualization.]

M So now when you see her understanding, take her into her arms, and stepping into the timeline at that age and walk her forward with those beliefs all the way up to today through all those life experiences as if she had these beliefs. And let me know when you reach today…. and do it fairly quickly so you don’t have to rationally think about it.

The next day…

M Okay, so where are you now with it? How do you feel?

L One of the things that came up was… well, you know how people talk to you… well we’re not immune to getting sick necessarily. You know things happen… we have to get sick to develop immunity but we also… we aren’t necessarily thinking about it 24/7 ya know?

M No, no, and we call it sick but maybe what it really is, is when the body is going through a process? Maybe we can redefine what you call sick?

L Yeah, because it’s not that you won’t ever feel anything, you will get things but it’s how you think about it once you get it.

M Right, it’s about the healing not about the immunity to life… it’s about developing resistance and resilience though… not every tree in the forest survives.

L True.

M Some get knocked down, but the ones that survive… and so do you believe you are a survivor?

L Yeah. Though what I saw was my …. As we talk to people and things come up the dialogue needs to be different.

M Right.

L Well, we have to have kind of the courage to be able to say, you know, either I don’t believe in… illness in that way…

M Or you need to wipe your slate clean or cancel, cancel or whatever works for you…if you already knew those things it would blow out some of the stuff that happens… you know what I mean?

L Yeah, definitely. I’m feeling pretty good by the way…

M Oh good, ok the next thing is to go back to the timeline and to stand in today facing the future. And we are going to use this frame that if you could just step into the perfectly healthy future… if you could just step over how you got there and you could be in the healthy future, just “as if” you could, don’t worry about how you got there, but just take that step forward, and be in that future to experience it. And look around you once you’ve stepped there and see how your life is.

L Well, it’s kind of cleaner and crisper and um, more full of life.

M Ok, ok, and from that, if you walked another 5 years in the future, with all of those healthy beliefs and getting healthier all the time, how would that transform that 5 years, or what would happen?

L Um…well, it would remove a lot of fears, I would be less afraid to take chances and to kind of go for it… go for something. I’d be… yeah, I’ve been kind of tethered by my health so it kind of cuts those tethers and would allow lots of possibilities to happen.

M So you would be more free and enjoying life more…

L Yeah, and not afraid to… um, get involved in something. Maybe something riskier.

M Okay, alright so standing in that future space, turn around and look at yourself in today and what had to happen to get you there? What do you think were the stages to get you where you are now, if you are standing in that future spot… if you are standing in THAT FUTURE HEALTHY space, looking back at yourself in TODAY, what did you step over, what transpired to get you there? What did you do that’s new?

L Daily practice. Daily remembering that the cells regenerate, that’s huge. The dialogue to the cells is important and the belief and um…. What I see is getting back into the communication with you, with other people, um, spreading the philosophy… being part of that… making Emotionology part of daily life, like exercise or brushing my teeth.

M Being part of… it’s like re-mission. (We all have a mission in life and there are different stages and sometimes we move on to a new mission through the experience of life. Something ends and a new journey begins.)

L Yeah, it’s the practice what you preach, well, not exactly… it’s having something you believe in.

M And doing it

L And doing it… it’s walking the talk. Not so much preaching but doing what you believe.

M Yeah, just being a good example and sharing it where you can.

L And believing that that matters. Because I can see how I, prior to that… this moment in time, I had lost kind of the belief in… that I have anything to do with my existence…experience.

M You stopped being involved.

L Yes, I got very lackadaisical, even though I thought that I was keeping up I can see now that I wasn’t really paying attention to what I was thinking about. In a positive way, it’s like…

M You got jolted back in. lol

L Yeah, it’s easy to slip back into malfunction. lol Because to keep momentum going you have to keep taking steps, you have to keep doing it.

M Well, we are on a journey and Emotionology is a joint journey but it has its own journey too and I want to share right now…we are all participating in the Emotionology journey…like when we are working in a group, everyone learns vicariously from what that person is going through… (discussion about something else helps a person to get some space so we can come back and check).

M Okay, clear you screen, tap into your body, what you think about, what do you notice and where are you with it?

L I’m feeling…. Um… definitely more energetic, more clear, more like myself, I feel like my voice has kind of come back, and less congested sounding, and… I am breathing better, not feeling so much congestion, I know that there is still a bit there in my nose but it feels normal. It doesn’t feel abnormal. My picture of myself if I put myself out in front of me, feels really acceptable to me. At this very moment…when I am scanning it, I am not seeing anything that looks real out of whack.

M Ok, this will tell us if there are any other pieces that we need to do.

This has been an introduction to Emotionology’s Bio-Chemical Model. We have attempted to give the reader the information of how this works, why it is important, and some tools to use. All experience is nothing more than the opportunity to learn. By learning how the mind and body work together can give an individual more control over their life and a much healthier and happy life.

Following the dialogue can help a coach understand how one can lead a person through the techniques. In a supportive and questioning way another person can dialogue with someone to help them go forward.

Emotionology: Bio-Chemical Model

The Bio-Chemical Book explains the how the body automatically programs itself without conscious awareness. It also explains how to change this automatic process into new possible choices and how this relates to overall health and mental health. Included are some techniques to try as well as a dialogue that demonstrates how one can change their programming for optimal health. Although the focus of this book is around the issue of allergies, the techniques can be applied to most unwanted emotions and health issues. The book uses easy-to-follow, step-by-step processes and ideas. It is written as an introductory handbook for everyone, especially those who are in, or who are in positions of health care in corporations, churches, schools, community, and government. The Bio-Chemical book is a comprehensive and succinct summary of the essential things that you must know about mental health while revealing the answers and solutions to longstanding questions about the mind/body connections and allergies.
