DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know in the beginning there was no light?

So God created light.

He was pleased with what He made.

God knew you wouldn’t like to be in the dark all the time.

Did you know in the beginning there were no oceans or mountains?

So God made oceans in some places, and dry land and mountains in other places.

He even added billowy cloud shapes in the sky.

God knew you would want to live in a world that is fun to explore.

Did you know in the beginning there were no plants or trees at all?

So God made petunias, marigolds, and ferns.

He made apple trees, banana trees, and sycamores.

God created all kinds of plants and trees.

He knew you would want to sniff some and gather others, or climb some and decorate others.

Did you know in the beginning there was no sun or moon or stars?

So God made the sun to wake you in the morning,

and the moon to shine through your window at night.

He was pleased with His creation.

God knew the sun would keep you warm, and the moon would light your path.

Then He put each star in its place and told it to stay right there, so you could always find it.

Did you know in the beginning there were no animals?

So God made fish, birds, and horses.

He made cats, dogs, grasshoppers, and ants.

He also made whales, iguanas, and orangutans.

God created all kinds of living creatures.

He knew some would give you food and clothes, some would work for you,

and some would be your pets.

Did you know in the beginning there were no people?

So God created people.

He made moms and dads, brothers and sisters, grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins.

He looked at His work and saw that it was very good.

God knew you would need a family.

Did you know in the beginning God was thinking about you?

He knew exactly when you would be born.

He knew all the places where you would live, and how big you would grow.

God planned lots of different adventures especially for you,

so you could explore, enjoy, and discover Him in the incredible world He made.

Did You Know? The Story of Creation

"Did you know God made light? He knew you wouldn't like to be in the dark all the time. Did you know God put each star in its place and told it to stay right there so you could always find it?" The creation story is not new, but each retelling is. This author's voice is unique as she personally tells the child not only what God created, but why He made it. "Did you know God made fish, birds, horses, cats, dogs, grasshoppers, ants, whales, iguanas, and orangutans? He knew some would give you food and clothes, some would work for you, and some would be your pets." Did You Know is written for the young child who is just beginning to know God and His world. It introduces a loving, purposeful God whose creation is meant to make the child feel special when he sees how God molded, decorated and populated the world with him in mind.
