Dear Reader, let me coax that frown from your face. I can show you worlds no one has shown you before.

You know you want me. I could tell the moment your fingers touched my spine. And how I thrill to the touch of your fingers!

What, you touch other books just as you touch me, you say? Heresy! No other book can show you what I can. I shall take a match to any other book that dares to come between us.

Say, you look romantic, sitting there, against that pillar. I could lose myself in the blue of your eyes.

What, your eyes aren’t blue? No, never, never deny that your eyes are blue. I can see the secret blue of your true eyes, beneath that other color. Your eyes are bluer than sapphires. Would I lie to you?

Dear Reader, I have been waiting only for you. You must understand that no one will ever know you, no one will ever love you, as I do.

No, don’t close me! You need me.

Ah, I knew you would be back. I know you better than you know yourself. You would be lost without me.

No, you are not going to give me away to Friends of the Library!

Don’t think you can get rid of me that easily. You and I were meant to be.
