[] Baby Animals!

My mom says that she once was small. She says she wasn’t always quite so tall. It’s hard to believe Mom when she says she was once a baby, grew up a little and was a kid, then grew some more as she lived. We all start out, she told me today, in a very similar way.

We went today to the zoo, to see if this was really true.

The first display we came across was a mother hen. All around her you could see little fluffy babies called chickadees.

It’s hard to imagine I said to Mom, a cute little chick with soft downy fur, will grow up to be just like her?

Mom smiled and said I know, babies always seem to grow. They grow from small into big, it’s amazing isn’t it? Just look at how much the baby will learn, you will see when it’s your turn.

We came across a baby tiger, all cute and cuddly and very tired. He snuggled with his mommy tight, snuggled in her orange stripes. The mama tiger, looked up at me. She opened her mouth and I saw her teeth.

It’s hard to imagine I said to Mom, a mama tiger so strong and big, once was cuddly just like him?

Mama smiled and said I know, babies always seem to grow. They grow from small into big, it’s amazing isn’t it? Just look at how much the baby will learn, you will see when it’s your turn.

Right next door lived a very adorable calf. What’s a calf you ask? It’s the name given to a baby cow. Well it’s the name they give for now. Once a calf is fully grown, he’ll be a cow of his own.

It’s hard to imagine I said to Mom, this baby calf, who’s not yet a cow, will grow up to be big somehow?

Mama smiled and said I know, babies always seem to grow. They grow from small into big, it’s amazing isn’t it? Just look at how much the baby will learn, you will see when it’s your turn.

We walked along until we came to where a goat and a horse shared a gate. A baby horse is called a foul that is until he’s one year old.

A baby goat is called a kid. Each of the babies lay close to their mama’s side, each of the babies were trying to hide.

It’s hard to imagine I said to Mom, this baby kid, this baby foul, will grow up fast and become old?

Mama smiled and said I know, babies always seem to grow. They grow from small into big, it’s amazing isn’t it? Just look at how much the baby will learn, you will see when it’s your turn.

We walked along until we found a mother pig lying on the ground. She lay on her side, so her babies could drink, they were so cute, and they were yellow and pink.

It’s hard to imagine I said to Mom, this mother pig who is so fat, used to look, well, just like that. The baby pigs were small and sweet. How did they grow so? What did they eat?

Mom smiled and said I know, babies always seem to grow. They grow from small into big, it’s amazing isn’t it? Just look at how much the baby will learn, you will see when it’s your turn.

We walked and walked until we saw, a monkey baby holding on to a bigger monkey who was her mom. The baby monkey held on tight, she held on with all her might. The mom monkey she could swing from tree to tree like it was nothing.

It’s hard to imagine I said to mom, that baby monkey just holding on, will grow up to be just as strong as her mom up in the trees, swinging around so happily?

Mom smiled and said I know, babies always seem to grow. They grow from small into big, it’s amazing isn’t it? Just look at how much the baby will learn, you will see when it’s your turn.

We walked and walked a little more, until we came to a little door. The sign on the door said welcome in, here are where small animals live.

The first cage we saw had a rabbit. Her fur was brown and she kept still on a pile of hay. I turned to Mom and was about to say, no baby in here. When to my surprise a little ear popped out the side. The mama rabbit was keeping her warm. Her baby bunny had just been born.

It’s hard to imagine I said to mom, that baby bunny can hardly move, she needs her mother to keep warm, is that how it was when the mother was born?

Mama smiled and said I know, babies always seem to grow. They grow from small into big, it’s amazing isn’t it? Just look at how much the baby will learn, you will see when it’s your turn.

We continued on to the next display, where there were rocks, and not much more, but a winding snake on the floor. The snake was long and was very thick, and tangled up inside of it, was a baby snake with his mom. The baby snake, the sign said, hatched from a little egg.

It’s hard to imagine I said to mom, that snake in there so strong and big, was born once from a tiny egg?

Mom smiled and said I know, babies always seem to grow. They grow from small into big, it’s amazing isn’t it? Just look at how much the baby will learn, you will see when it’s your turn.

Right next door to where the snakes live was a mama rat and her baby. The baby rat was small and pink. To look at her you wouldn’t think, that she would grow up just like her mama, with fur of brown, and little whiskers.

It’s hard to imagine, I said to mom, that baby rat will grow up strong.

Mom smiled and said I know, babies always seem to grow. They grow from small into big, it’s amazing isn’t it? Just look at how much the baby will learn, you will see when it’s your turn.

We walked through the zoo and stumbled across a mama dog with her baby pups. It was the cutest thing I had ever seen, they wagged their tails and pushed and shoved, they were playing but they were very rough.

I looked at Mom, and at the pups. Could it be? Could it be my mom so big, used to be just a kid?

I guess what I’m saying, I learned today, I started out the same way. I was born a little baby. I grew up a little and now I am kid, and I’ll continue to grow everyday as I live!
