While I Wait

As I lay in my final six feet
My lips again never to speak
My mind still knows
I must release my soul
My body was just a vessel of this time
To protect and to nurture my soul
Upon my death to fade away into dust
God has set it forth in truth
So it will happen it must
I now await my departure
Quietly in my solitude
It will happen if I wait patiently
It’s been ordained by fate my only reality
Since I have time to reflect
On the good, the bad and all the things I did neglect
It was a life worth living
Even though I had a few misgivings
I begin to tap my toe
Impatiently I am ready to go
In my mind I hum my favorite song
What’s my hurry?
I have eternity long
It’s funny when you are all alone
How the mind will drift along
Maybe it’s dying
Maybe it’s converting
But what a ride!
I now tap my box being bored
Waiting to hear an echo from next door
Apparently they have left this place
Evolving to the next world to explore and to free up space
Not sure how long I must wait
Hopefully I go before becoming bait
I guess it would be my last contribution
Feeding the pest I would normally kill
In a sense making restitution
Finally my time has arrived
To leave this world into better I vie
As I soar past space
I bid farewell to the human race
Never again to see my face
