Christmas puppy

Copyright 12-21-2016

Once in a lifetime a special request

Pleas to a parent becoming a pest

Christmas day is coming fast

A single present to bring peace at last

Christmas day arrives in darkness

Yelps pierce the night

Little feet run through the house

Following the sounds for a sight

Crying yelps turn into giggles

Then into whispers within the darkness

Now little foot prints are echoed

Returning into the silence of night

Christmas day greeted once more

This time by morning light

Yielding an empty cage

Someone freed the puppy from his plight

Dad cleans up shredded news paper

Like Christmas paper shredded amongst delight

Piece by piece following the trail

Within his son’s bed the puppy wags his tail

A dad’s tear falls in silence

No one to witness inside or out

A perfect picture his camera etched

Marking this as where trouble begins

A mixed breed within its secret is kept

Its little paws three inches wide and a tail for a whip

No one knew a six pound puppy would start to grow so quick

Especially when he was as thin as a stick

New Years Eve now four days away

Throughout the house a smell sways

Tripping over objects misplaced

The puppy speeding through life like it’s a race

Out of good often yields bad

A new hole in the couch

A leg on the table gnawed

How quickly it has all turned to sad

The fourth of July a mile stone is marked

Six months have passed since the start

The puppy is still a puppy

Even though eighty pound is surpassed

Still teething upon all objects

Nothing safe within its grasp

He now stands three feet tall

Everything above the floor he gnaws

Just past Thanksgiving a day has passed

Another plea from the same child he blast

The puppy is lonely and needs a friend

Asking for another puppy is the child’s sin

A father mumbles ungrateful brat

Reflecting on all the poop in the house that went splat

Throughout the house only remnants remain

Once proud objects earned no longer on display

One little puppy given by a plea

Destroying all assets of a family that be

Dad reflecting on a picture his camera had etched

This time all to witness the tears he wept
