1You are judged by the way you speak. Most of the time it doesn’t make a great deal of difference if you are judged as well educated or illiterate, but, at times, it matters a great deal. For example, you may be sitting with an interviewer vying for a good job. You state, “I have took several courses in math. I don’t have no doubt that I can do the job.” Do you see why you just lost the job?

Or, you may be speaking to a bank officer applying for a mortgage and you state, “I have did financial workshops in school and seen the importance of owning a home.” Do you see why you may not be approved?

Or, you may be having a conference with your child’s teacher regarding Timmy’s poor performance in school. You remark, “Me and Timmy work together on homework every day but he don’t seem to understand nothing I say.” Can you see part of what may be the problem?

Below you’ll see 40 sentences that contain a grammatical error. Are you able to find the problem in most of these? The author’s corrections are at the back of the book. However, he gives the disclaimer that he is not an English grammar professor. He welcomes hearing from anyone who has corrections or suggestions to offer.
