Visions are real. Many years ago, when I heard preachers talked of the visions they saw and it came to pass, I wondered if what they were saying will ever happen in my life. Few years before the year 2000, I had few revelations and word of knowledge on a limited basis, but from January of the year 2000, the Lord put me into the greater dimensions of visions and revelations.

I have had countless visions and revelations from the Lord. Some of them were the revelations of what happened in the past and what is happening in the present (word of knowledge) and some of them were what will happen in the future (word of wisdom). They come through visions, dreams, voice of the Holy Spirit, prophecy, and by a knowing or sensing in my heart; God speaks through various ways. Find out the common way or method He usually speak to you and develop it, yet be open to receive from Him through other ways as He speaks.

God promised to make His people to see visions.

And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men SHALL SEE VISIONS, Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.” (Acts 2:17).

Just as all believers can pray for the sick to get healed, all believers can speak in tongues; all believers can cast out demons, and they all can prophesy. In the same way, all believers can see visions. The only difference between the manifestations of vision in the life of a believer and in the life of a prophet is the frequency of the manifestation. Seer prophets see visions consistently and in a higher dimension. “ have also spoken by the prophets, And have multiplied visions; I have given symbols through the witness of the prophets” (Hosea 12:10).

Visions, dreams, revelations and prophecies influence lives. It keeps you going in the right path of life or Ministry. These would save you from danger and death, and lead you to knowing, receiving and acting to receive your blessings. (1 Cor. 2:13).

Visions, dreams and revelations are gates into the spiritual world. Through a vision, you will be able to see and commune in the Spirit realm. Through a vision, you will be able to receive accurately what had happened in the past and what will happen in the future. It is a burden that produces visions. Each time I receive a burden about something concerning myself, my ministry, the church, nations, or for other people, I will withdraw from people; I will withdraw from much talking to get a quiet place so that I can be alone with God. As I press in seeking an answer to my prayer, the Holy Spirit, through the burden, will show me a vision. When you are in an atmosphere to receive a vision, do not be in a haste to leave the environment and do not be carried away by the awesomeness of the first vision He shows you. Learn to wait. God may still show you more. Learn to write down each vision you receive.

Most times, God speaks before showing. To me, the voice of the Holy Spirit is the highest level of prophetic revelation; hearing God by heart to be led by your heart. This is the primary way Jesus was led. Most of what God SHOWS us is the PHOTOS of the silent words He puts in our hearts. The silent words would come as if you were sensing a thought of something. Most times, we don’t push our mind to really know what we are receiving or to act on what we are receiving. We miss His gentle voice because we only want to hear the audible voice. Learn to follow what the Holy Spirit is placing in your heart to do.

Vision and dreams is a strategic weapon the Lord has given to us in these last days to fight and to overcome the enemy’s strategies that is influencing the church. Victory will come when God is in the battle. When God speaks and you obey, there will be victory and blessings. God speaks through visions. Vision helps believers to do God’s will. God communicates His will and purposes through vision. It is very important because it helps you to know God’s mind. God has a will; a program for your life and Ministry.

Vision brings accuracy in our Ministries. People easily understand a message when it comes in a pictorial form. Most times, we don’t easily forget the message in pictorial forms. Vision is important because it is in the seeing. Vision empowers and stirs you to accomplish a purpose. When the Holy Spirit brings a vision of a purpose He gives you the power to fulfil the purpose.

The power of the Holy Spirit in the vision will create movement, enthusiasm and speed in you to fulfil the task. You cannot do it until you see it. Great destinies and assignments begin with a vision. Vision helps you to know and intercept impending danger through intercession. True intercessors need the visions of God in this season. You need it.

Types of Vision and Spiritual Sensing

Vision is real. You can see countless visions. It is the Holy Spirit who gives vision. The Holy Spirit has a language; visions, dreams, a voice or revelation. These are the means through which He speaks. (Acts 2:17-18).

There are different types of visions:

(i) Open visions

(ii) Traces

(iii) Inner or spiritual vision

(iv) Vision of the night

(v) Panoramic

(vi) Translation

(i) Open Vision

In an open vision, ones physical senses are not suspended. It is as if you are watching a movie from a television screen. It will be so clear that you cannot miss a word or an action from your mind when it comes. God brings this by the Holy Spirit to show us about important issues. I discovered that in most cases what is shown will happen exactly as it was shown. It is not like other visions and dreams where one has to sometimes “strive” to interpret and to carefully apply the revelation in the vision.

Prophet Daniel had it. He saw and heard clearly when an angel appeared to him. When he was seeing and hearing from the angel in the vision, people around him did not see but a great quaking fell on them, and they ran away. (Daniel 10:7). God opened the eye of Elisha’s servant who was afraid of their enemies and he saw in an open vision the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha to protect them (2 Kings 6:16-17). Divine visitation falls under this type of vision. When angels or Jesus visits you physically, it is in the realm of open vision.

(ii) Trance

A trance is when you are in a state where you are neither awake nor asleep. You are in between and suddenly you are lost into another realm; you are lost into the Spirit realm where you are given a message. It is always like you are in a movie. Sometimes you will both SEE and HEAR in the Spirit at the same time. Your eyes are wide awake after the vision and you will know when you left and when you came back to your physical senses.

One characteristic of a trance is that you will be involved in what is happening in the vision. Peter had a trance in Acts 10:9-20. He saw unclean animals coming down from heaven to him and heard a voice saying, ‘arise and eat.’ Trance is movable while inner vision or spiritual vision is immovable.

The devil could also give a trance; but God’s trances are easy to know and interpret. You will know God’s trance by a sense of an awesome presence of the Holy Spirit around you after its reception. You will know that it is from God and will be fully convinced that it is from God. When you are confused and do not know whether the trance is from God or not, it is likely not from God. The vision may look so ordinary to you; you may think they make no sense, but they are real. It could make a whole lot of difference about something great in your life or Ministry. Sometimes when you are back from it, the Spirit of prayer, worship or silent thanksgiving will flow from your heart. Sometimes, when you are back from work or school, you will suddenly fall into a trance while trying to take a short nap.

(iii) Spiritual Vision

In this type of vision we see with our spiritual eyes. Some people call it “inner vision” because one sees it with the inner eye, the spiritual eye. Some call it hidden or mini-vision. It comes mostly while you are praying and suddenly you are lost in the Spirit for seconds. The vision is in a photo form and the activities are immovable. They come in snap-shots. Unlike a trance vision where the events are movable, the events in spiritual vision are static or immovable. It comes and goes sharply and immediately. Some forms of spiritual vision come gently and unfolds gradually that you will need a little patient to wait for it to finish unfolding.

Most times, you will know what the vision means after its reception. A photo can be worth a million meaning. As simple as this vision is, it is very legitimate. They are so real. Be careful to take decisions by this especially major ones until you are skilful in understanding it. If you are not careful, watchful and sensitive, it will come and go and you’ll think it is your imagination. I have seen several believers who did not know it was a real vision; they thought that it was their imagination. They do not know that when we become born again, God transforms our imaginations and would not remove it from our minds. God uses our imaginations to form images (visions). I have used my sanctified imagination and heard God speak to me in several ways. When you become born again, God will not destroy your imagination; the part of your mind that produces pictures. Paul encourages us to renew our minds and not to destroy it (Rom. 12:2). The more you spend your time in prayers, in the Word and in meditation for an extended period of time, your spirit will be open and will dominate your mind (the place of imaginations) and then you will receive from God.

It is advisable to immediately write down what you received or else you may forget. I have missed so many great revelations because of negligence in pencilling them down. Paul had it when he saw Ananias coming to pray for him to receive his sight. At that time Paul was blind when he was struck by a bright light from heaven on his way to Damascus. Paul, with his eyes closed, saw a vision. In another place, he saw this simple vision of a man from Macedonia beckoning on him to come over and help them. (Acts 16:9).

(iv) Vision of the Night

The vision of the night or night vision is a type of a vision. It is not an ordinary dream but a higher level of dream; though it comes by a dream-like experience. A dream is what you see in your sleep. When you are awake, you remember the event you saw. Vision of the night could come to your spirit either in the morning, afternoon or at night. It is when you are asleep and a revelation is given to you. It will be so real that you will awake suddenly after receiving it. In most cases, you will get up from your bed to sit down or stand up and you will feel an awesome presence around you. It could be given to you for a direction, encouragement or warning of a coming attack. If it is an attack, you need to prayerfully deal with the issue. Do not wait till the next day to call believers to join you. It came to you at that time because the devil has just started devising it. And pray it through until you are convinced your prayer is answered. God could use this to bring a major issue about your life, ministry, family and nations to you. Daniel had a night vision. (Daniel 2:19). Its major characteristic is that it vanishes sharply. Isaiah said that the distress that will come on Ariel will be like a dream of a night vision. (Isaiah 29:7).

(v) Translation

This is what I call, “the third heaven experience.” This is when the Holy Spirit literally carries your spirit to see events in some physical regions of the earth or outside the planet earth. Sometimes, you will be carried to a place in the spirit to pray for the sick people while in the physical these sick people will receive their healings. The spirit realm is real and controls the physical realm.

In the above different types of vision explained, God may show you visions that will require interpretation. But in translation vision, most times what you see or hear is direct and so clear and accurate that you may not need interpretation of such an experience. There is going to be more of this kind of vision in these seasons. You can affect nations from where you are because there is no distance in the spirit. (2 Cor.12:1-2).

(vi) Panoramic Vision

Panoramic vision is a prolonged open vision or trance. The encounter could last for thirty minutes, hours or days. As you are receiving the revelation, it can pause, and you can go and eat or do other things and still come back to continue from the very point the revelation stopped. And sometimes, even when you are talking with people or while eating or taking your bath, the scene or movie will continue to play in your spirit. John the beloved who wrote the Book of Revelations had series of this type of vision.

Visions are real. Jesus saw visions and so were the apostles. But vision is not the only way that God speaks to us. He speaks in various ways; through dreams, circumstances, His revealed Word, prophecies, visions, and by the voice of the Holy Spirit. (Heb. 1:1-2).

We need to develop the art of hearing God in our hearts. Believers should expect to be led by the Spirit of God in their hearts. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” (Romans 8:14). One of the characteristic of a mature believer is that he is being led by the Holy Spirit. I found out that more that 90% of the prophetic revelations that Jesus received during His earthly ministry were by SENSING. Some people call it impression. Sensing is a full KNOWING in your heart of what God is saying. It is not an audible voice, but the message will be so real and will seem as though it is an audible voice.

“For he KNEW that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy.” (Mark 15:10).

“But Jesus KNEW their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.” (Matt.12:25).

“But He KNEW their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, “Arise and stand here.” And he arose and stood.” (Luke 6:8).

“…and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He KNEW what was in man.” (John2:25).

“When Jesus saw him lying there, and KNEW that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”(John5:6).

“When Jesus KNEW in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them, “Does this offend you?” (John6:61).

“Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus KNEW that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.” (John 13:1).

Sensing or knowing can be so powerful that you can know the names of some people you never met before; knowing a date and time an event will happen. You could sense the presence of angels when they come around, the kind of angels, and the type of assignment they come to accomplish in a meeting. You could also sense the presence demonic forces in a place.

Our senses can be developed. It may take you time to make a major decision by this method, but it is good. The devil doesn’t have access to a believer’s heart but can manipulate his mind. Sensing is in the heart. Develop your spiritual senses. Paul had a KNOWING or a SENSING in his heart of the impending danger that would befall them. He knew, sensed or perceived the coming storm and wind that were ahead of then. “Men, I PERCEIVE that this voyage will end with disaster and much loss, not only of the cargo and ship, but also our lives” (Acts 27:10).

God usually speak before showing us (in vision) what He intends for us to know. Whatever visions you receive, let your heart or sensing confirm it. Every instruction of the Holy Spirit you obey will produce the supernatural in your life or Ministry.

The Holy Spirit also leads us by the “go” or “not to go” signs. The “go” sign is leading us forward and the “not to go” sign is restraining us backward.

Understand Inspired thought – A thought of a thing that crosses your mind and means nothing to you, but at a point becomes inspired to make a lot of sense to your heart. The very thing you were ignoring will become so real and then you feel strongly that something should be done about it. This is an inspired thought by the Holy Spirit in your heart and it is an indication to act. The Holy Spirit could inspire any object to pass a message across to you; either in words, writings on posters, objects around you, or sound.

Understand the prompting of the Holy Spirit – Prompting is when the Holy Spirit is acting upon your spirit. It brings situations to the knowledge of your heart and would push your heart to act on what He is bringing to your awareness. For example, you may see someone in need, and the Holy Spirit might prompt your heart to arise and help. That is the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

Understand Impression – Impression is when the Holy Spirit brings something into your heart. A thought of something that has never crossed your heart or an issue you have not thought about for a long time. When this thought comes to your heart, there will be a strong growing awareness in your heart about it. It will keep growing and coming to you and will give you much uneasiness until you act before you will have complete rest. It is like a light burden on your spirit, but carries a caring presence of God. A word of knowledge or the word of wisdom could come to your heart by impression. It is the same as “I perceived,” or “I sensed.”

Misinterpreted Vision

The primary role of a true prophet is intercession. Be careful of prophets who don’t like intercession: a close intimate prayer fellowship with the Father. A prophet is also a messenger. In the Old Testament, not all the people of God were prophets. They don’t have the Spirit of God in them, and so, they go to prophets or seers for guidance and confirmations. But in the New Testament, all believers have the Holy Spirit in them and God speaks and lead all His children. Prophets in the New Testament can only confirm what the believer has already received. God uses prophets to confirm calling and personal issues in the lives of individuals and ministries. When that is done, it enlarges, strengthens and empowers the recipient to move forward with what he had received from the Lord.

God has used me to confirm to some believers about their prophetic ministries or gifting and they are now operating in it powerfully. By the Holy Spirit, I have confirmed to so many evangelist, pastors and teachers about their call which they received and applied thus having result. I found out that when a believer or a Minister receives accurately his or her specific or original anointing or call, the anointing will activate the person to operate effectively therein.

God doesn’t only confirm ministerial callings, but also confirms business, carriers or courses in secular schools that some of His children should study. I have experienced this and have seen people who do not know their future careers, and God will confirm to them what they had been thinking to do with their lives.

I have seen hundreds of believers confirming to themselves about their callings, healing, restoration, etc, speaking what they do not naturally know about others when I was leading them in prophetic activation session. In our activation session, I have seen so many sick people get healed, restoration reaching many; people weeping because they are receiving accurate personal prophetic word, and hundreds prophesying. It is very easy to prophesy; it is very easy to see vision and to evangelize. Most times, we just need simple teaching. And that is why God has placed the five-fold ministry in the church; the apostles, PROPHETS, teachers evangelists and pastors: to train and equip believers to grow into maturity. A mature apostle can easily train and release other apostles. Likewise, a mature prophet can easily equip and activate believers to operate in the prophetic gifts like vision, prophecy, prophetic intersession, prophetic teaching and music, etc. So it is with the teacher, the evangelists and pastors: they will produce after their kinds. We have countless testimonies in our activation session. Spiritual things are real. The Spirit realm is ‘more real’ than the physical realm. Although there is a need to seek godly counsel and confirmation from believers and ministers, we should not be over controlled by it or depend on people for constant confirmation of prophetic visions and revelations. God wants all believers to hear Him for themselves. You can hear Him accurately and see clear visions. God used some prophets and teachers in the church that was at Antioch to CONFIRM and release Paul and Barnabas into the apostolic work. (Acts 16:1-6).

Misinterpreted Visions

There are certain locations and areas of Ministry you will see in the Spirit which are only meant for intercession and not for you to physically go to for ministering. I once saw a vision that I was ministering in a certain town in Nigeria. I misinterpreted the prophetic revelation. I thought that I was to go there as a missionary. I thank God that He helped me not to take that wrong step. It was the Lord who brought the vision, but it was for me to intercede for the church in that region and not to go physically. Learn to discern spiritual locations for ministering and the places that you are to go physically. We will achieve the whole purpose of a prophetic revelation if we follow it gradually. Learning and knowing exactly what you clearly received from God, giving the vision or the revelation an accurate interpretation and having an accurate application of the vision. If you receive and are able to interpret clearly the vision but miss the application, the full purpose of the vision will not be achieved. If your prophetic vision is wrongly interpreted, you will miss out to a great extent.

There must be accuracy in the reception, interpretation, and in the application of prophetic visions and revelations.

I was told a story of a believer who was praying and waiting on God to speak to him on what next to do with his life and then came a vision. In the vision was clearly written the letters P.C. He wrongly interpreted the vision for Plant Church. So, he went into church planting. He suffered greatly in ministry. Things weren’t working for him in the ministry because it was not the will of God for him to Plant a Church. Then he withdrew and went into much prayer and waiting. Afterward he got the accurate interpretation. The meaning of the letter P.C which he saw in the vision, was for him to Plant Corn. He had peace and fully knew this time around that the interpretation was correct. Then he went into Planting Corn. The Lord blessed the farm work and the man prospered greatly. He prospered because that was the will of God for him, to Plant Corn. God’s hand is only on what He speaks or shows.

We can misinterpret an accurate prophetic vision or a revelation if the condition of our heart is wrong. We need to remove worldly desires from our hearts. Our minds must be transformed by the Word of God. If the desire for the lust of the eye and the syndrome of quick fame is in us, we can misinterpret an accurate prophetic revelation. There is a need for the fruits of the Spirit to be developed in us which will guide us not to misinterpret prophetic visions and revelation. The fruits of the Spirit are: Love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Gal.5:22).

In the presence of many counselors there is safety. Do not be a lone ranger in life or Ministry. Share your vision to mature believers or Minister who can help you. We should be broken and teachable to learn from others. Don’t be in a haste to act when it comes to major issues of life and Ministry. Pray through it, think through it and allow God to lead you. Among the five fold ministries, it is only the prophetic ministry that Paul said it should be judged. This means that even a mature prophet can miss the receiving of a prophetic revelation, or miss the interpretation in itself, while others could miss the application of the prophetic revelation. Prophetic Ministry in the New Testament is different from the prophetic ministry in the Old Testament. In the Old Testament, they were not born again, that is, the Holy Spirit was not IN them. He only comes UPON them to prophesy and departs from them immediately they finish prophesying. But in the New Testament He is IN us, making our mind to become active when He is speaking through us. That is why Paul said that the spirit of a prophet is subject to the prophet.

We could grow daily in our gifting and calling. Let us keep learning to improve ourselves to be accurate in the receiving, interpreting, and in the application of prophetic visions and revelation.

Understanding Destiny Vision

A destiny vision is a revelation you received from the Lord concerning your future and is inescapable to your heart. It is the plan of God for your future. And each time you remember it, you just know that it is from the Lord. That was the kind of vision that Joseph received from the Lord. It is called a destiny vision because it has to do with your destiny. Joseph’s vision came to pass after many years.

If you had received any dream or vision from the Lord which has to do with something in the future, wait for it. God will bring it to pass in His own time. Destiny vision gives strength to the recipient to keep moving. Jesus was able to press and pass through the crucifixion pain because of the Joy that He saw in advance. Such visions will be tested by God. The enemy will also work hard to ensure that you abort such a vision.

Several people had received a destiny vision from the Lord when they were in their youth, but as they advanced in life, they allowed the vision to fade away. The enemy gave them another dream. He gave them a career that is not from God and they pursued it with all their time, energy and resources. We can be sincerely wrong. Follow God’s plan for your life.

Have you received a destiny vision from the Lord? If you haven’t yet received, I encourage you to pray, press on and, if possible, fast until you receive it. “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” (Jer. 33:3). The purpose of a destiny vision is to bring a blessing to a generation or a nation. The destiny dream Joseph received came to pass, and it helped thousands of people from dying by famine.

You may not really know the fullness of what the Lord would do by the vision He gave to you; but a generation someday will be so glad that you were there and stood for them because you obeyed God and waited for the fulfilment of the vision. The vision the Lord will give is because of a generation. It is greater than you. It is not all about you. Have you received a destiny vision from the Lord?

Prophecy and the Prophetic Office

Prophecy is speaking the mind of God by divine utterance. It could be for encouragement, exaltation, comforting people or saying what has happened in the past, what is happening in the present or what would happen in the future.

Types of Prophecy

Reporting Prophecy:

In a reporting prophecy, you will have a vision, dream or the Holy Spirit will speak to your heart and after receiving it, then you will declare it to the people. This is reporting what has been already given to you. For example, the prophecies of John the Beloved in the Book of Revelation are reporting prophecies. He wrote what he had seen in the Island of Patmos. “I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,” (Rev.1:9-10).

Spontaneous Prophecy:

This is a prophecy that comes out of the believer’s mouth at the spur of the moment, spontaneously, on which the person has no prior knowledge of what to say or would not know when the anointing comes at such a time. The spontaneous prophecy could last for seconds, minutes or hours. After the release of the prophecy, the vessel forgets what he said and when asked, he hardly remembers the words emanating from such prophecy but remembers only some key words of the prophecy. Jahaziel prophesied spontaneously.

“Then upon Jahaziel… came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation; And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” (2Chro. 20:14-15).

Spontaneous in Reporting prophecy:

Sometimes in reporting what you were told, or what you had seen, suddenly other words will begin to come out of your mouth that you never planned to say. It suddenly shoots out in one, two or few sentences. There and then, you will fully know it was God that had spoken and not you. This form of prophecy happen to so many believers when they are sharing simple testimony of God’s works in their lives or when they are encouraging people but they didn’t know it is a form of prophecy that proceeded at the end of the sentences or phrases after they must have spoken.

Prophecy in Praying process:

I have said that prophecy is a supernatural utterance. It is a spoken word that is not a product of human calculations. When you are leading public prayers or praying privately, there are times when you may begin to utter or declare certain words into existence, which were not what you planned to pray about. At this point, you will become charged up or fervent in your spirit and you will know that what you said is real and will come to pass. It is a form of prophecy in a prayer setting.

Prophetic Preaching:

There are occasions whereby a Minister has prepared a sermon to preach. But as he walks towards the pulpit, the Holy Spirit moves on the prepared teaching and breathe a dimension of inspiration into it. When such messages are preached, people usually confess at the end of the meeting that the Holy Spirit moved.

The gift of tongues that is a prophecy:

There is the public side of speaking in tongues and the private side. (1Cor. 14:1-20). The devil has confused many believers so that they will not understand and embrace the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of praying in tongues. In the public side of speaking in tongues, there is a need for interpretation to the hearer (congregation) and God will always raise someone to immediately and spontaneously interpret in a known and understandable language. When a word is given in tongues and there is no interpretation, it is because someone has missed God -he fails to connect to God or tune in-to receive or was scared to interpret. In the private side of praying in tongues, it is between you and God who speaks privately that no man may fathom what was spoken. When a message is spoken in an unknown tongue an interpretation is done in a known tongue and this is equal to prophecy.

Private side: “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh NOT UNTO MEN, but unto God, for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.”(1Cor. 14:2).

Public side: When a message is spoken out in an unknown tongue and the interpretation followed, it is equal to prophecy. (1Cor.14:27).

Types of Prophetic Anointing

There are different types of prophetic anointing. By this, I mean there are different levels and operations of the prophetic anointing upon prophets. One prophet will be different from the other. We have so many prophets in the Bible; they operated with different messages and methods. “And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.” (1 Cor. 12:6).

• Prophetic Seers Anointing: These are prophets that see more into the spirit realm by visions than others. The prophets in the Old Testaments are called seers because they see into the spirit realm. Visions come frequently to this category of prophets. It could be an open vision, spiritual vision (inner vision), trance or the vision of the night. God opens their eyes to see. “… and in the visions of Iddo the SEER.” (2Chro. 9:29).

In this kind of prophetic encounter, some feel a divine presence around them when God wants to show them a vision. Some feel like taking a short nap and then comes the vision. When the presence of God comes on them, it will be so strong that they would want to do nothing but just be alone and in a quiet place, to rest or sleep. At such moments they would be suddenly taken into the realm of the Spirit to see something. After receiving the vision, the sleep-like feeling clears off from their eyes completely. This is a seer anointing. Sometimes you would see in an open vision. It can come at a season you are discouraged or burdened about an issue, and you are transformed into the spirit realm the moment you lay down.

God could show you event in an open vision literally, that is, your physical senses will not be suspended but you will be watching the event as if from a television screen.

Prophetic Intercessors: Some prophets are more into the intercessory aspect of the Ministry. They have a very strong passion for intercession. They are involved in several forms of strategic spiritual warfare. Moses and Daniel are good examples of prophets in the Bible who have a very strong intercessory anointing. Daniel interceded for the release of a whole nation of Israel from their captivity in Babylon. And Moses interceded each time God is angry with His people to destroy them.” (Num. 14:17-20).

• Prophetic Minstrels: Other prophets easily prophesy through songs or by the playing of instruments. Such ministering brings a lot of encouragement to people and creates an atmosphere of divine presence to bring healing, deliverance and blessings to people. It brings believers to a place of encounter to hear from God in that atmosphere. (1 Sam.10:5-9).

• Prophetic Equippers: This is an anointing that comes on a certain group of prophets to equip believers for the work of the Ministry. It is a training anointing to teach other believers. Such prophets raise many other prophets and activate believers into the prophetic gifting. Some believers are prophetic teachers. They are not logical in their teachings like the believers who are strictly teachers of the Word. They are inspired teachers of the Word. (Eph. 4: 12).

• Prophetic Writers: These categories of prophets are gifted writers. Their writings are inspired. They do not write because they want to make money, fame or a legacy. They write as commanded by God. They received the writing Ministry as a commission from God. John the Beloved who wrote the Book of Revelation was a prophetic writer. As they hold their pen, prophetic anointing would come on them and they will begin to write great prophetic words for the now or the future.

“WRITE the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;” (Rev. 1:19).

• Prophetic Miracles: These prophets are gifted in the area of signs and wonders. Great healings and miracles follow their ministrations. God used Moses in signs and wonders. The spiritual gift of faith, gifts of healings and the gift of the working of miracles follow them. “…Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:” (Luke24:19).

• Prophetic Actors: Their lives are messages. Each time God wants to deliver a message, He makes them to ACT it. Hosea was commanded to marry a prostitute, to show how Israel has cleaved to the worship of strange gods. (Hosea1:2). Ezekiel was told to sleep on one side of his body for days. Agabus used a belt to tie himself, and said that the owner of this belt will be bound by the Jews. It was the belt of Paul. Later, Paul was bound by the Jews. (Acts 21:11).

There are several forms of prophetic actions that God could instruct any believer or a prophet to do, but it should be by a clear instruction.

Prophetic action is a rehearsal or putting into the physical what God is doing in the Spirit. When this anointing comes on these prophets, they begin to gather physical objects that relate to something that is presently going on in the spirit realm what was done in the past or concerning the things that happen in the future. For example, Prophet Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands and asked him to open the window eastward and shoot out an arrow of the Lord’s deliverance. The king shot only three times and Elisha was not pleased with this. Elisha wanted him to shoot many times; he told him that he smite the Syrians only three times.

Some prophets, by mere looking at the natural creation, could discern what was going on in the Spirit. It is done by the revelation of the Holy Spirit. They are suddenly attracted to an object, and then the message comes.

Prophetic action is an anointing. God uses some prophets more on this line than others.

Five Realms of the Prophetic

These five realms of the prophetic are the ways God use to communicate with His people. Each of the method is unique.

These methods include:

• The Spirit of Prophecy

• Gift of Prophecy

• Prophetic Presbytery

• Prophecy of the Scriptures

• The Office of Prophet

The Spirit of Prophecy

Often, during corporate worship service the Holy Spirit will be present to speak to the people. During these times, there is a special anointing for the prophetic that He releases on various members of the group. This release of the corporate prophetic anointing is not related to a prophetic office, but is a sovereign move of the Holy Spirit falling on whoever He desires to fall upon. Usually, the Holy Spirit desires to fall on those who are open to and willing to be used by Him, who are willing to step out in faith and move with Him. (1 Cor. 14:31).

When this Spirit of prophecy comes upon a congregation, the Spirit of God activates even those who do not have the gift of prophecy or the office of a prophet. It is a corporate type of anointing.

The Gift of Prophecy

The gift of prophecy is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. God gives it to believers as He wills. It is by His choice. It is not the same as the call into the prophetic office. However, if we desire it and asked God, He can give it to us. The basic function of the gift of prophecy is for edification, exaltation and comfort. (1Cor.14:3, 14:1).

Prophetic Presbytery

These are group of mature Ministers or believers. They could be heads of Ministries or churches. They could come together in a locality to form a spiritual team. The reason it is called “presbytery” is because it is done by those who meet the qualifications of a presbyter (elder, or overseer) in the Church. These come together:

p<>{color:#000;}. To seek prophetic revelation and confirmation, or to activate and release those called into a particular Ministry office.

p<>{color:#000;}. To wage a strategic spiritual warfare over a region.

Prophecy of the Scriptures

The Word of God is on itself prophecy. Every word of prophecy that comes from the other four realms of prophecy must agree with the Scriptures. “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” (Rev.22:19-19).

“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts. Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” (2Peter1:19-20).

The office of the prophet is different from the gift of prophecy. These are two different issues. We need to also understand that they are two different words “office” and “gift”. An office is different from a gift. An office is a position of trust; it is an authority given to a person to occupy a position. But a gift is limited. A gift is a small fraction of a responsibility.

Ministry offices are divine callings. The five ministry offices are listed in Eph. 4:11-12: apostles, PROPHETS, pastors, evangelists and teachers. And in 1Cor. 12:1-10, the gifts of the Holy Spirit were listed: the gift of prophecy, the gift of the word of knowledge, the gift of the word of wisdom, the gift of healing and the gift of the working of miracles, etc. Jesus gives the ministry gifts Eph. 4:7-11, while the Holy Spirit gives the gift of the Holy Spirit, 1Cor. 12:1-10.

To be in an office is to have all the material necessary to help in the smooth running of the office. In the secular office, if you are a director, you may have a secretary, personal assistant, and other personnel working with you. Many functions comprise an office. To stand in the prophetic office, you must be a born again believer of Jesus Christ, filled with the Holy Spirit and with at least two of the revelation gifts plus the gift of prophecy manifesting consistently in your life and Ministry. This Ministry is part and parcel of the prophet who is in the prophetic office. He is concerned daily on how the church and the people should be directed: to hear the voice of God and obey it. He finds joy and fulfilment when people are responding and craving to hearing the will of God and to obey Him. He finds joy when his prophecies come to pass. He feels a strong prophetic anointing upon him before, during or after prophesying in a meeting. Thereafter, he becomes more humble and feels like hiding himself from people after his prophecy. It comes first of all by a call to the ministry. As you respond to the call, the anointing will come upon you thereafter. I cannot tell for certain how long it takes before it comes, but I believe the duration depend on the timing of God, the certainty of the location you would be sent to and the nature of one’s assignment.

There must be a definite divine encounter or an experience from God or the Holy Spirit upon you before you are able to step into the prophetic Ministry. If you are truly called into this awesome Ministry office, you will know for sure: God will tell you and give you a sign. In addition, people around you will know. You would not need to put a title of a prophet by your name to authenticate the office; the fruits of the ministry will prove it. A tree is known by its fruits.

Prophecy is speaking the mind of God concerning people, places and things in a known language. It is a supernatural utterance from God. God uses different believers to prophesy in a unique way.

In the simple gift of prophecy, there will be edification, exhortation and comfort, and there is no speaking forth of future events. (1 Cor.14:3).

All believers can or should prophesy but not all are called into the prophetic Ministry office. That God used you to prophesy at some time and it came to pass does not mean you are called into the prophetic Ministry. That you have dreams which occasionally come to pass does not mean you are a prophet or a prophetess.

Most evangelists have the gift of prophecy but not the office. I have seen several evangelists claiming the prophetic office. This is dangerous for them. But sometimes, God shows and speaks through believers who have no gift of prophecy about future events but the words they had spoken came to pass.

It is the frequency of manifestations of the gift of the word of wisdom, gift of the word of knowledge, discerning of spirit plus the gift of prophecy that makes one a prophet. You must be led to prophesy. In some believers, the unction comes up gently while in others it comes with a force.

The Ministry of the prophet is not the same as the gift of prophecy. Prophetic office is among the five government ministry offices He gave to the Church. (Eph. 4:11; 1 Cor. 12:28; Acts 13:1). The gift of Prophecy is for three main functions: edification, exhortation, and comfort. However, the Office of a Prophet has authority invested in it, to function in a higher realm of Ministry than the Holy Spirit’s gift of prophecy.

These are some of the functions of the office of a prophet:

• Providing direction. (2 Kings 5:10).

• Giving words of correction and warning. (Ezek. 3:18)

• Pronouncing divine decrees of God’s judgments or blessings.

• Impartation of spiritual gifts. (1 Tim. 4:14).

• Anointing ministries (the three ministries of the Old Testament were anointed by prophets: the first king, Saul, was anointed by the prophet Samuel (1 Sam. 10:1) the first High Priest, Aaron, was anointed by the prophet Moses (Ex. 28:41). Prophets could anoint other prophets: Elijah anointed Elisha. (1 Kings 19:16).

• They are custodian of the secrets of God. (Amos 3:7).

Prediction Is Not Prophecy

Prediction is to declare a word in advance, that is, to foretell on the basis of observation, experience or scientific reasons that an event will come to pass in a life of a person, places or thing while prophecy has nothing to do with observation or experience of any sort but foretelling by the Holy Spirit. The message must be God’s ordained, direct Word. Some of the messages we hear now as “thou says the Lord,” are nothing but prediction. After many calculations by their reasons, they declare them based on human reasons that are not from God. All we know about God and His acts were the things revealed to us by His Spirit. (1Cor. 2:12-14, 1Cor. 2:13.). There is a prediction by a prophetic insight that could come to pass accurately, but it is still a prediction. And don’t call yourself a prophet because you predict events. The prophetic office is a call by God. “And NO MAN TAKETH THIS HONOUR UNTO HIMSELF, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.” (Heb. 5:4).

There is a prophetic insight that is called prudence in the Scriptures, but it is not the same as the gift of prophecy. Prophetic prudence works, but it is not the same as prophecy. Prudence is having the wisdom to plan for the future. “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.” (Prov. 22:3).

Some satanic prediction could come to pass because demons will honor the satanic word to perform it. They could only fulfil a satanic word of disaster. We need to cancel any satanic pronouncements or prophecies spoken against us, against our families or against our nation. We need to understand that spirit beings need a word from people to operate on earth or in people’s lives. If it is a negative word, demons will bring it to pass and when it is a positive word, that is, God’s words, His angels will bring them to pass. Be careful of what you SAY because our words affect our lives. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Prov. 18:21). Therefore, we need to understand that prediction is not the same as a prophecy. Declaration by prophetic insight is not prophecy. Having the wisdom to plan for the future is not the gift of prophecy. Prophecy is a declaration by the Spirit of God.

Judging the Prophetic

The scriptures encourages us to judge prophecies. Paul said that when a prophet speaks, others should judge. “Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.” (1Cor.14:29). Prophetic Ministry is the only Ministry among the other Ministry callings that Paul said it should be judged. It should be judged because it speaks on behalf of God; and words spoken on behalf of God must always and at all times remain accurate. Secondly, the Scriptures told us to test every spirit because not all spirit or prophecies are from the Lord. Any prophecy that is from the enemy can cause havoc. “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”(1John 4:1).

These are several ways we can judge prophecies;

An Inner Witness Of The Holy Spirit

God speaks to all believers. When you are under a false prophet, the Holy Spirit will speak to your heart by a gentle voice or by a sign of uneasiness in your heart that there is something false about the prophet. But if you resist the leading and continue to stay under such a person, after a while, you will not hear that leading again. The spirit of the false prophet will capture your mind. In a case where a believer is prophesying, if he is speaking from his mind, you can know if it is from his mind or it is from God. There is always a check of the Holy Spirit in our hearts; it is feeling of uneasiness, uncomfortable feeling, no freeness in our hearts, which is the stop sign of the Holy Spirit. Learn to obey such leadings that can save you a lot of pains and lost. “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” (1John2:27).

Find out if the words contradict the scriptures?

Any vision, dream or prophecy that is not in line with the Word of God is not from God. God’s Word will not tell you to hate someone, to steal, kill, covet, or lie. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Tim 3:16-17).

If a prophecy goes against scripture, disregard it and throw it away. But there are times when a prophecy can be against our own understanding of the Bible. That is why it is important that we build ourselves in the Word.

What is the prophet’s attitude towards the brethren?

Find out if the prophet is walking in love. Anyone who hates his brother or sister is in darkness. A true prophet cares for the welfare of the people and wants to see them walk in the Word and in the will of God. He cries when he sees that what is written in the Word is not practiced in the church. A true prophet is not motivated by material things, money or fame, but to please God in all ways. Doing the will of God is their food.

The Character Of The Prophet

There so many false prophets. You will know them by their fruits. A true prophet walks in the word. He manifests the character of Christ. The passion of Christ is his passion. Find out if the prophet enjoys worldly pleasure and engages in immoralities. The fruits of the Spirit MUST manifest in his life. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Gal5:22).

Did The Prophecy Come True?

The Scriptures answered this directly: “When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.”(Deut.18:22). If God speaks, the Word will come to pass. But there are prophecies that could be delayed or stopped by God from coming to pass, especially when it is a prophecy of judgment. God changed His mind against destroying Nineveh when the people repented. Some prophecies take time before their fulfilment. It took hundreds of years before the prophecies of Jesus’ coming to the earth came to pass.

There was a time God used me to give a prophecy that He is giving us a president devoid of human selection. In other words, it will come by His doing and not by election. When I spoke that word in a meeting, in 2007, I thought it will come to pass in a few weeks, but it took three years.

Does the Prophecy promote Jesus or man?

If a prophecy exalts a man rather than God, then the prophecy may not be from the Holy Spirit. “…For the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy.” (Rev. 19:10).

Independent Witnesses

A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. “…In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.” (2Cor.13:1).

Does the Word Set Us Free?

A true prophetic word sets people free from satanic bondage. An evil prophecy puts burdens and yoke on people. Some of them make you to pay for the service you received from them. True words from God will encourage and comfort you. “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32).

Does the Prophet testify that Jesus is God?

Any spirit that denies that God came in the flesh is not the spirit of God. “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. (1Jn 4:1-3).

Signs and Symbols

I tried to give some basic interpretations to the meaning of some numbers, colors and objects. But you need to bear in mind that a picture could have more than one million meaning. God usually speaks to you by the things you are very familiar with. For example, if you know that a bus carries people, He may use a bus in your dream to let you know that there are people He placed under you to oversee their spiritual well being; to drive them to their destiny. That you always see a car in your dream doesn’t mean God wants to give you a physical car; a car in a dream usually talks of Ministry.

A snake in a dream could mean a sign of danger, but the scripture says we should be as wise as snakes. (Matt. 10:6). So, snake in a dream could mean ‘wisdom.’ I heard a story of a young believer who was so zealous about the things of God and wanted an encounter with Jesus. He was praying and fasting that he wants to see Jesus physically. One night, while he was in their church praying, a Lion appeared to him and he ran out of the church to his pastor. He told his pastor that there is an evil spirit in the church. So the pastor asked him what he was doing in the church at that hour and he said it was because he wanted to see Jesus. His pastor told him that the Jesus he wanted to see came but he ran; that the Lion is Jesus. Jesus is he Lion of the tribe of Judah. (Rev. 5:5). So, a Lion in a dream could mean kingship or an apostolic Ministry.

• An eagle in a dream could mean the prophetic Ministry.

• A dove could mean a sign of love, gentleness or the Holy Spirit.

• A beast could speak of danger or the anti-Christ; but there are some beasts that are always in God’s presence worshipping Him.

• In the Scriptures, a river or water could mean a blessing, revival or people. It is not always that the enemy is trying to initiate you into occultism whenever you see yourself flying across the waters.

• Waters means mass of people. (Rev. 17:15). The dream might mean that God is lifting you above some people or human limitations.

• Flying in a dream is not always a bad dream. So many prophets in the Bible experienced flying in their dreams and visions to certain regions of the universe. (Ezekiel 11:24, 8:3, 2Cor.12:4). Some, like Elijah and Enoch disappeared, for God took them alive to heaven. Philip disappeared and appeared at Azotus. Should we call these experiences demonic? Do you know that Satan is not a creator but only copies? Everything Satan does is a ‘trial copy’ from God. For you to be prophetic and hear God accurately, you must learn to be comfortable with prophetic experiences.

God speaks always to us through dreams. But because of the kind of environment we were brought up, we feel that many things we see in a dream are associated with evil. Do you know that God brought unclean animals for Peter to kill and eat but he refused? He told God that they are unclean animals and God told him not to call what He created as unclean? (Acts 10). Some people will go for weeks of deliverance prayers if they have such dreams. But it was God and not Satan who brought the animals to Peter. The Holy Spirit usually gives you an interpretation of the picture He shows you in a dream or vision. Learn to write down the first understanding you had about the visions. Sometimes, you need to write it down because God may not give you the full understanding of the pictures, numbers or object until the set time of their manifestations.

Hearing, Seeing and Positioning

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets.” (Heb. 1:1).

God still speaks. And He speaks in diverse ways. He is the God that owns everything. He knows everything and every person’s thoughts and intensions. He knows why things are the way they are.

He wants to speak in a way that will be understood to believers and to make us aware that He is speaking. The particular way He speaks to you today may not be the same way He will speak tomorrow. He spoke to Peter by the voice of the Holy Spirit when Ananias sinned. (Acts 5:1-11). And in another place He spoke to the same Peter by a trance vision. (Acts 9). He does this to keep us aware that He is a God of multi-dimensional acts; the God that is unlimited and cannot be caged in one form of speaking to His people. His utmost desire is that His people understand when He speaks.

He does not want us to be spiritually deaf and dull in hearing His voice. He will always create all possible ways to speak to us when we are willing to hear Him. Draw nearer to Him and He will draw nearer to you.

It is the delight of a natural father to hear his child talk to him and the child in turn hears his father in turn hearing his son speak to him. Will you not talk back to your child when he talks to you? Will you not want to hear the voice of your child? Prayer is not a monologue but dialogue; it is a communication between God and man. And in communication, there is talking, sharing and understanding.

Hearing and obeying God brings great success in life and every aspect of call to Ministry. It is one of the primary keys to opening the door of money, material things, and brings you to safety.

And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:” (Deut 28:1).

There are two key subjects in this verse. The first is the “voice of the Lord” and number two is “the commandment of God.” The commandment of God is His words in the Scriptures that we must obey; it is a decree that nothing can change. For example, to love one another is a command. Prayer is also a command. Learn to be a doer of the Word and not just a hearer only.

“The voice of the Lord” is the instruction He tells you which must be confirmed in His word. His Word is given for confirmation of what He shall be speaking to us by His voice. The voice of the Lord is an instruction for a specific situation concerning people, places and things.

Therefore, it is crucial that we know how God speaks and gives visions and revelations for the edification and building up of His Kingdom.

The Hebrew word for a “prophet” is call “Nabi,” which means a spokesman – someone who speaks in behalf of God. The very words he speaks are not his own, but from a superior authority. Such words he speaks carry power and authority from the person who sent him.

Prophets are God’s spokesmen. The weapon of a prophet is the Word. If we must be prophetic, or have a maximum result in the prophetic, then we must know the power of the Word. The language that the spirit realm understands is the Word. When you speak a negative word, it empowers evil spirit to work with it, and the result will be negative happenings. And when you speak the Word of God, it empowers angels to fulfil the purpose of the spoken word. (Psalms 103:20).

From Genesis till date, each time God wants to achieve a purpose, He speaks. Speaking comes prior to an action (Gen.1:3). Learn to speak to circumstances and events. Speak to the creation of God. Speak to the “Mountain”. Everything that God created has an ear to hear; they respond to the words of Him who created them. When there was a storm on the sea and their lives was in danger, Jesus spoke to the wind and storm to be calm and they obeyed His WORD. The prophetic is not only in the hearing and seeing, but also in speaking.

1. Revealed Word:

When the Israelites were in exile in Babylon for 70 years and the years were completed for their release, God revealed to Daniel as he was reading the Book of Prophet Jeremiah. He understood that they were meant to stay for only 70 years. God speaks by His word.

When you are studying the Word of God and it ministers to a particular issue in your life, it is God speaking to you. Sometimes, when you are reading your Bible and you got stuck in a particular verse, and you couldn’t move further beyond the verse is a sign that the Holy Spirit wants to tell you something. There are so many promises in the Scripture that addresses every need in your life and Ministry. Find them. Speak them. Believe them. This is another example of how speaks to us by His revealed Word. John 3:16 says that, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believe in him will not perish…”.We easily quote this verse even at our Sunday school but it has never meant anything to many people. But, as you ponder day and night on these words they suddenly grip you and produce meaning making the Word of God real and true. It can be said that God is speaking to you by revelation knowledge or knowledge revealed.

2. Divine Visitations:

God does allow Jesus to sometimes physically visit a few believers to give them a message. There are several believers who had experience such as a divine encounter. Not every Christian will experience this. It is by His sovereign decision. It is not advisable that we should be seeking after spiritual beings visitation as the devil may appear to us like an angel of light. But if God stirs your heart to ask, go ahead and ask. Jesus told doubting Thomas that blessed are those who believe him though they did not see Him. The twelve apostles, Paul the apostle, other apostles in the early church as well as many believers in this contemporary world have seen Jesus. I know few men who are alive today that had an encounter with Jesus Christ.

In divine visitations, God could also send an angel to deliver a message to believers. Peter was visited physically by an angel. He was tapped by the angel who opened the prison door for him to escape. Acts 12:10. Angels come to give messages of direction from God to deliver us from a problem or bring words of edification and building up of the Kingdom of God.

We have guardian angels. They are always around guarding us. They are always by a believer whether he or she knows it or not. But we should not seek to see angels or worship them. They are ministering spirits (our servants) sent to minister to us. (Heb. 1:14). You are greater than an angel because you are created in God’s image and likeness. They are not created in God’s image and likeness.

3. Providential Circumstances:

When men are not sensitive enough or doubt when God is gently speaking to their spiritual ears, or heart, or by visions and dream then He allows circumstance to lead them. It is not the perfect will of God to allow circumstances to lead us. He doesn’t do this all the time. He uses this for the immature.

I also noticed that there is a level you will attain will attract God-given spiritual burdens and responsibilities and, because of these issues, you are likely to neglect some important issues of God regarding them as secondary. When this happens, God will begin to use circumstances to speak to you. Sometimes, there will be a vibration or a sensation on a certain part of your body to indicate to you about a related matter in your life or in the lives of other people. There was a time I was in a church and someone had pains in his arm. Before that time, I was not aware of this. Suddenly, I felt a sharp sensation on my arm that lasted for a while. I stood up and declared that someone seated in the congregation was undergoing some pains on his arm but that God was healing him that instant during the course of service. I have had several sensations or vibrations in my body to indicate a message as I lay hands or hold onto people to pray for them.

God uses circumstances to lead us each time we are insensitive to the open doors He sets before us. When your spirit cannot fathom what the Holy Spirit is trying to tell you, He will allow circumstances to speak to you.

God speaks to us by an open door of circumstances: When you want to do something or go somewhere, God will shut the door for one of two reasons: could either mean that that particular issue is not God’s will and desire for you, or the set time is yet to come. And if it is the right time, you would not need to struggle as He will open the door. The door will open for you with ease.

Another side of God’s leading is when we delay on acting on the Word when it comes. It could also mean that God’s divine assignment for you is over in that particular location but disobedience on your part has caused you to remain stagnant thus preventing you from receiving. When this happens, be sure you are only in permissive will and not the perfect will of God for your life of God. Unfortunately, under His permissive will there is no protection for you causing the enemy to attack you. In that situation you’ll discover that everything works against you. But God in His infinite mercy at this stage will begin to give you warnings in your dreams and visions. Please, always act in obedience when He instructs or you will pay dearly for your inaction. (Job 33:14-17).

4. Prophecies:

God speaks to us by prophecies when a believer who is inspired by the Holy Spirit speaks. Prophecy is speaking the Word of God in a known language by divine utterance. He could speak to you as in a sermon; or through teaching, singing or prophesying. We should not seek after prophecy but the Word. God may speak to you directly through prophecy, but most times the words are just to confirm what is already in your heart. (1Cor. 14:3).

5. Visions:

The word vision has two meanings. First, a vision could be defined as your goals or plans in life. In this context of our teachings on the prophetic Ministry, a vision can be defined as the ability to see into the realm of the Spirit with our physical or spiritual eyes. (Acts 2:17).

Vision is real. When the Lord began with me as I gave my life to Jesus, much of how He spoke to me was by His Spirit in my heart, that is, by the voice of the Holy Spirit or by the inward witness in my heart. Once in a while, I receive a word of knowledge. When the fullness of time had come, the Holy Spirit quickened my spirit and positioned it to receive visions and revelations consistently. You can see countless visions. It is the Holy Spirit who gives vision.

6. Dream:

Dream is receiving a revelation about someone or something while asleep. When awaken, one recalls what transpired in the dream. A dream comes through three sources;

(i) from God

(ii) from the devil and

(iii) from your human spirit (your thought or your mind).

Dreams that are from Satan have fearful elements attached to it. It can come to pass if not prayerfully handled. Don’t be careless about negative dreams and don’t allow such dreams to control your life and Ministry. It can make you confused, frustrated and divert your attention from the Ministry. Let the word of God guide you daily. Whose reports will you belief?

I suffered and got confused many times by satanic dreams. Because I believed so much that God speaks through dreams, I expected that all my dreams must be from God. Be careful not to base your receiving spiritual direction through a dream but by the teachings of the Holy Spirit and His Word. Though God speaks through dreams, be careful not to be controlled or enslaved by it. Let the Word of God control your life.

I almost lost out in ministry sometime ago. Then, I was in a Bible school and I wanted to know what exactly the Lord would have me to and where this would be. Because of that eagerness and anxiety, I had a dream that I was in one of the African countries for a mission work. Guess what? I almost left school for the untimely work. Some dreams have their time of fulfilment; they are for an appointed time. Train your spirit to be patient and quiet for an extended period of time. Impatience kills and has thrown many out of wrong relationships and locations; sending them to various locations outside of the will of God. Don’t seek to hear from God when you are too anxious and desperate. God had to make Adam sleep and caused him to remain at a state of rest before He gave him a wife. He struggled to get a wife among the animals that will be suitable to him among the animals until God made him to sleep. (Gen.2:20-23). Don’t seek God in an earthquake situation. Rather, learn to rest your heart in His promises by faith. The fact that you see yourself in a strange land does not mean you are to move immediately.

Sometimes, the devil could cook up a vision for you. Also, a dream could come by the activities of the day. (Eccl. 5:3). Your thoughts during the day might reflect in your mind while in bed and you may think it is a dream from God. If you always think of people and Satan coming to attack you, there is likelihood you will see people and the enemy chasing after you to destroy you in your dream. Even when you become too afraid of someone who is not a witch, Satan may use the person’s face to hunt you in a dream. There are witches who use human faces – especially the face of someone you know – to harass you in a dream. They do this just to create confusion, strife, hatred and fight among people. This scenarios are common in Africa. “Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it comes the issues of life.”(Prov. 4:23). Feed your mind with the words of God. (Col. 3:16, Rom. 13:1-2). What comes into your heart will surely manifest outwardly. You will be conformed to the image of the things you are constantly beholding.

Sometimes when you fast without much prayer, you are likely to see yourself eating in a dream and this is not a sign that you have being initiated into the evil world but just a hunger reflecting and indicating you desire food at the moment.

When you doubt the source of a dream then it is probably not from God.

When God gives you are dream, the message will be so clear, direct, and will make an impact of the glory of God upon your spirit to indicate such a dream is from the Lord.

Most times, God reveals to you the interpretations of your dream. In every God-given dream, there is always a message. Such a message could be:

p<>{color:#000;}. An encouragement to continue in your walk with God in a location.

p<>{color:#000;}. A warning.

p<>{color:#000;}. A message for the church or the nation.

p<>{color:#000;}. A message for your family or friends.

p<>{color:#000;}. The message could be a direction for your life or ministry.

p<>{color:#000;}. For your self-examination to walk in holiness.

p<>{color:#000;}. God could show you a generational issue that should be dealt with prayerfully and not just dealing with it by knowledge or confession of the word.

7. By the Holy Spirit:

God will speak to you through the Holy Spirit by these means;

(i) Audible voice of the Holy Spirit

(ii) Inner voice or still small voice

(iii) Inner witness or conscience

(i) Audible Voice of the Holy Spirit

As the name implies, the voice you would hear will be audible and clear. You will hear it clearly with your physical or spiritual ears. It has an authoritative sound and tune. Each time there is a “hard” journey ahead of me God speaks clearly to me weeks or months away. In most cases, the voice is spoken in one, two or more sentences in an articulate manner forcing me to go in search of such words in the dictionary. Usually, it comes as though the speaker is so close to the listener. Paul had similar experience when he said:

Now the SPIRIT SPEAKETH EXPRESSLY, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;” 1Tim 4:1.

Also, “…THE SPIRIT SAID unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.” (Act 10:19).

(ii) The Inner voice or the still small voice

God could speak to your heart by the inner voice or the still small voice and usually not through you spiritual ears like the audible voice of the spirit. The tune of the voice is still, small and gentle. It comes in an atmosphere of quietness of your spirit. It is a whisper in a phrase, one sentence, or few sentences. And you will know it is from God. In trouble times when you’re confused and restless like Elijah in the cave, don’t expect God to speak to you in a thundering form, earth quaking or windy sound or by fire but by a still small gentle voice. (1Kings 19:9-13). You will sense an atmosphere of peace within you in that period of time and then in the midst of that comes the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit.

(iii) The conscience or the inner witness

A man comprises of the body, soul and the spirit. The human spirit is the same as the heart. The components of the soul are your will, emotions, intellect and mind while the components of the spirit are communion, intuition and conscience. Communion is a place of fellowship and communication between God and man. The intuition is the part of your heart that gives you an awareness of something that you need to stop doing. For example, when you are going to a place you planned to visit, you suddenly change your mind and refuse to go any further. This is intuition.

The conscience is the voice of your spirit. The Holy Spirit speaks to our spirit by the voice of your conscience. When you become a born again, it is your human spirit that is saved and not your body or mind. When the Holy Spirit touches your spirit, it will become regenerated or alive. This act makes the place of communion, intuition and conscience in your heart become alive and active. The Holy Spirit leads you by your spirit. (Rom.8:14). He speaks and puts messages to your heart. The conscience has a check: this check is always in a state of rest normally at all times so that when there is a thought or a voice to act positively or negatively, your heart will dictate and respond. You need to know when your spirit or conscience is at its normalcy position so that when there is a shift, you can easily detect.

This is the primary way that God speaks to all His children regardless of how long you may be in Ministry. He leads us daily on every issue every even those seemingly unnecessary.

The Holy Spirit leads us like the earthly shepherd with a sense of caring and wants us not to fall into dangers. He knows the future and things we are likely unable to handle. It is crucial that we hear and obey Him or else we shall struggle unnecessarily in life and Ministry.

Every instruction of the Holy Spirit you obey will produce the supernatural in your life or Ministry.

Don’t neglect the voice of your conscience. Many have died as a result of negligence on their part while others have missed there healing and anointing. Whatever God does is supernatural. The Holy Spirit also leads us by the “go” and not the “not to go” signs. The “go” sign leads us forward and the “not to go” sign restrains and drags us backward.

Restraining or pulling us backward, “not to go” sign.

Leading us forward, “go” sign.

(i) Restraining or pulling us backward, “not to go” sign: First of all, you need to know the normalcy of your spirit, in other words, seek the Lord when your heart is right before the Lord and at peace with all men: the state of the inner quietness of your heart so that when there is an ill-feeling you will resolve the problem(s) right away. He said that if they had listened to His commandments, their peace would have been like a river. (Is. 48:18). God leads us in an atmosphere of STILLNESS. In your spiritual journey, each time you begin to lose your peace over a situation, it is a sign to stop. That is the Holy Spirit restraining you.

Secondly, when the thought of an action you want to do cross your heart and a guilt-like feeling is released in your heart, it is a sign to stop.

Thirdly, when you are not comfortable in your heart about a thing, when you try to do it over time and you begin to have an ill feeling in your spirit, or when you feel you are not comfortable in your heart about a matter, it is a sign to stop. It is the Holy Spirit restraining you.

Again, there are times you have a decision to make between two issues with the option of solving one and letting go the other. When you become unsure which to embark on causing you to become restless, this may be a possible sign to stop. Please do not be in a haste to make a decision when you are at a stage of confusion or restlessness. The end result may cause you untold suffering if you take a wrong decision. I suffered so much when I acted at such crucial point. It is at such point of restlessness that demons come to divert your attention from the original plan of God for your life. Sometimes even when you act, the Lord still spares you. This is the mercies of God covering you even in your disobedience.

The ‘Now! Now!! Now!!!’ Hasty approach toward issues are usually from us as a result of our impatience. He that believes does not make haste. Success at all cost is not God’s concept. Just operate with God and follow His will. True success begins by knowing the will of God. Then you will get to a point where you are successful and may not even know you are. Your concern will be TO DO THE THINGS THAT WILL PLEASE HIM. God is so mindful of you than you think. He will help you because there is no distance in the spirit realm. He will act for your sake. When it is time for your blessing, He will locate you wherever you are.

(ii). Leading Us Forward, “go” sign: The Holy Spirit will often lead us by our hearts to move forward. There is the resting point, the gentleness and stillness of your heart. When your heart is at such calm He will lead you to go ahead. When He does that, you will be so convinced that God has spoken to you. The voice or thought will be simple and gentle, and the instruction you received will be clear and definite.

God leads us forward by these means;

p<>{color:#000;}. Understand Inspired thought – A thought of a thing could cross your mind and may mean nothing to you but at a point it is inspired, it will make a lot of sense to your heart. The very thing you were ignoring will become so real to you and then you feel strongly that something should be done about it. This is an inspired thought by the Holy Spirit to your heart and it is an indication to act. The Holy Spirit could inspire any object to pass a message across to you. It could be through words, writings on posters, objects around you or sounds.

p<>{color:#000;}. Understand the prompting of the Holy Spirit – Prompting is when the Holy Spirit act upon your spirit. It brings situations to the knowledge of your heart and pushes your heart to act on what it is bringing to your awareness. For example, you may see someone in need and the Holy Spirit will immediately quicken your heart to arise and help. That is the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

p<>{color:#000;}. Understand Impression – Impression is when the Holy Spirit brings something into your heart. A thought of something that has never crossed your heart or an issue you have not thought about for a long time. When this thought comes to your heart, there will be a strong growing awareness in your heart about it. This thought keeps growing and coming to you until you act before you will have your complete rest. It is like a light burden on your spirit, but carries a caring presence of God. A word of knowledge or the word of wisdom could come to your heart by impression. It is the same as “I perceived,” or “I sensed.”

Rationalization is not a leading

Deception sets in when reasons replace the place of conviction, says a preacher. Reasons are in the mind, which is the “soulish” realm, the place of intelligence. Conviction is in the place of the spirit (heart). As many as are led by the Spirit (not by reasons) are the sons of God (Rom. 8:14). When you use human logic and worldly principles to make your analysis, judgment and conclusions, then you are under the control of the spirit of deception.

If God, in His mercies opens your eyes, you would find out that many of the things you are doing are not led by His Spirit, but by your human perception. Some people are so practical in approach and application of their principles that they have kept the Holy Spirit outside for quite a long time. They are saying, ‘seeing is believing.’ They are like the doubting Thomas. As many as are led by the Spirit (not by practicability) are the sons of God. (Rom. 8.14). What surprises me is that working by senses also brings results. It is our responsibility to check our results whether they are from godly sources or demonic sources.

When rationalization replaces conviction, deception is inevitable.

Positioning one’s self to receive a word from God is crucial on how to be led by the Holy Spirit. Positioning is to place yourself in a direction that certain things could come your way. For instance, when you want to receive a message on your telephone, there must be the Handset; you must get connected to the communication network by registering sim card. Also the battery of your phone must be charged. After taking into consideration all these, you still need to dial the number in order to communicate with someone and receive a message in return.

Below are the ways you can position yourself to be led by the Holy Spirit:

p<>{color:#000;}. Intimacy with the father

Developing intimacy with God is the foundation of hearing from Him. The more you stay close to God the more you will know His voice. I am sure that you know the voices of some of your friends because you have been with them for some time. If you are married and you have a close walk with your spouse, even in the midst of a crowd, you will know the voice of your spouse when she speaks.

p<>{color:#000;}. Create time for prayers

Learn to make prayers a fellowship rather than a duty. You can talk to God freely as you talk with your friends. Be flexible in His presence. He is not only a God to us, but a friend and a father. “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” (1 John1:3).

p<>{color:#000;}. Abstaining from polluted magazines and movies

What goes into the mind will eventually get into our subconscious being and is capable of getting one polluted. It will produce false pictures and revelations. We are not to be equally yoked with an unbeliever. Delight your mind and heart in the things of God. If you want to develop your ability to hear the voice of God or to receive His visions, you must get rid of polluted magazines and movies.

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” (PS. 1:1-2).

p<>{color:#000;}. Forsake not the assembly of the brethren

If you want to position your heart so that God can talk to you always, you will need to stay among believers. Immediately after salvation, one is expected to have believing friends. You need mature believers around you who could direct you so that you don’t fall. The scripture encourages us not to forsake the assembly of the brethren. When I was growing up in the faith, I struggled for a long time to be committed in my walk with God because I had unbelieving friends around me. When I started relating with believers: connecting myself to godly influence so that I can hear godly things and remain pure in heart, my ability to hear God’s voice improved.

Study and meditate on the Word of God consistently

Studying and meditating on the Word of God is the foundation for hearing His voice. Meditation on the Word of God will help to renew your mind and purify your imagination of every filth. Your imagination is the centre for receiving vision and dream. The word should sanctify your mind to improve your ability to hear God more clearly and accurately. You need to get a quiet place and create some time in His presence. In times of crisis when you need a guidance, the Holy Spirit will bring one of those Scriptures into your mind to give you direction. “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8).

Fasting is meant to bring your body under the control of your spirit so that your spirit would become active to easily hear from the Holy Spirit. During fasting, let the Word guide you. Spend time in prayers during your fasting period. Fasting is sometimes a sign to show God that we are serious. Go into fasting when there is a burden in your spirit. Do not go into a fast with a wrong motive: trying to imitate someone who fasted for 40 days.

Do not fast to make name for yourself. Also do not fast with the purpose of setting a record. Fasting should be Spirit-led. Fasting helps us to easily tune our hearts to the frequency of the Holy Spirit. The more you position your heart to hear from God, the more sensitive you will become to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Praying in the Spirit

Praying in the Spirit is another way to help you in positioning your spirit to hear from the Holy Spirit. When you pray in the Spirit (tongues), it is your spirit that prays. (1 Cor. 14:14).

Prayer is done in two dimensions: first with your mind (understanding) and secondly by your spirit (in a strange tongue) 1 Cor. 14:15. When you pray in the Holy Spirit, your spirit will become edified or charged up. Your spirit comes alive or quickened when you pray in the Spirit. Then it will create an atmosphere where you can easily hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. For more than 15 years, the more I prayed in the Spirit the more visions and revelations I receive; and the less I pray in the Spirit the less the visions and revelations I receive.

Spend quality time praying in tongues daily and don’t mix it up with a language you are familiar with. As you continue daily in this, you will see and hear things in the Spirit that will marvel you. Paul said that he prayed in tongue more that all of the Corinthians. (1 Cor. 14:18).

That is why he received a lot of visions and revelations. (2Cor. 12:1- 7). Take note! You can pray in tongue only when you have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Initially when you begin this form of prayer your body may not be comfortable with it from the start.

You will be tempted to stop, but you must resist such temptation. The very moment you contemplate quitting is when your prayers are ascending the Throne of Grace with a powerful impact. Pray until you are fully convinced that your prayers are heard. The peace and joy of the Spirit in your heart after prayers is evidence that your prayers have been heard. Again, you may sometimes feel that what you are saying is meaningless and makes no sense: like an empty word that is too common and useless. But keep saying it. “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.” (1 Cor.14:2).

I found out two dimensions of praying in tongues: There is a tongue that sound like a language: so real, strange and carries a force- a charging force with it- and after praying it out for few seconds, we are always tempted to stop. Of a truth, you are praying in the Spirit. And there is one that is common among believers, the normal tongue they pray with their eyes open. We should not be religious about praying in tongues. Pray in fervent tongue: concentrate and release yourself into it. Get a quite place and set a quiet time to avoid distraction. The prayers could be for 30 minutes or 3 hours. “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,” (Jude 19-20).

Waiting to Hear

There is a time of waiting to hearing from God. Wait to hear from God after a period of quality fellowship prayer to God. Do not be in a haste to leave His presence. Be patient with yourself and with God.

Many believers jump out from His presence when they receive just a word. They lack the patience to wait a little longer and receive more from God. Waiting to hear is like having a quiet time: a period of time when you are quite before God in meditation and in quiet praise and worship to Him. It is a period of contemplation and fellowshipping with the father; a time of deep reflection and contemplation on the glory of God. So many believers like warfare prayers even when the Holy Spirit is not leading them into it. You might not hear God easily if all you do is warfare and thinking of demonic attacks. Meditate on His Word, glory, and purpose. You can also hear Him during your prayers as He brings solutions to the questions in your heart.

If after your prayers He did not speak, keep doing it time after time, do not give up. Do not be disappointed when you waited and heard nothing for a leading that you desired. Sometimes God will test your patience and endurance. But surely, He will speak. Waiting is not only done in meditation in His presence, but we must learn to wait for His promises to come to pass in our lives. It is in the waiting period that God will give us a leading on how to manage trying times.

Quieting your spirit

Train your heart to be quiet. He that believes does not make haste. You will enter into so many troubles if you are always in haste. There is strength in the stillness of our heart. Do not be in haste to speak or act until you are so convinced that it is God leading you. If you are too noisy, you would miss several information that the Holy Spirit wants to speak to you.

Deal with unbelief, doubt, fear

What hinders our prayers from being answered or stops us from seeing the result of our prophetic declaration is unbelief, doubt and fear. (Mark 11:23-24). Everything is possible to them that belief. When you speak a word to receive your miracle, do not doubt it and do not be afraid it won’t happen. It could take some time, but it will SURELY COME TO PASS.

You need to understand the purpose of every delay in your life. That our prophetic words are delayed from coming to pass doesn’t mean it will not happen. When a woman is pregnant for the first 24 hours, you may not know it. Whether you believe it or not, there is a seed in her. It is not the issue of sight, or “seeing is believing.” Rather, it is a matter of faith. You can speak right now to receive a miracle. Only believe. Between the time you speak the word to receive a miracle and the time of its physical manifestation, I will encourage you to keep your faith intact. Resist the enemy when he tries to speak words of doubt, unbelief and fear to you.

There is always a waiting period to receiving from God. Prophetic words creates faith and movement. Each time you give someone the RIGHT words something will begin to happen instantly in the realm of the spirit that the physical eyes will not see.

So, in developing our hearts to hear from God, we should learn to always deal with fear, doubt and unbelief. The more you have faith concerning His ability to speak to you, the more He will often speak to you.

Discern Ungodly Vision

The Scriptures encourages us to test every spirit. The enemy is running to and fro to deceive and mislead people. Therefore, it is needful that we know satanic visions and the fake visions that come from our human spirit.

To determine whether or not a vision is from the Lord- either from your own human spirit or from the devil- is by the kind of impact that was left on your heart after the revelation. If a vision is from the Holy Spirit, the impact on your heart will be strong with corresponding awesome presence of God and inner peace, and a full knowing that it is from God.

Satanic vision or dream brings fear. God’s vision creates faith and hope. Satanic vision most times can be distorted. The message will not be clear. After the revelation, you will keep wondering whether it is from God or the devil. Also, if you are wondering if it is from the Lord or the devil most times it is not from the Lord.

Satanic vision usually contradicts the word of God. Any vision that will make you go contrary to the word of God is certainly not from God. In a similar manner, any vision that will instruct you to fornicate, fight, covet, murder and to cheat someone, or to commit sin in its entirety is not from the Lord. Don’t be afraid if your heart is catching so many visions or dreams. Some of the visions may not be from the realm of the Spirit, which is why it is important that we develop ourselves in the Word of God so we can easily understand His voice and to relate better with the Holy Spirit.

The more you watch carnal pictures or movies, the more the pictures will continue to reflect in your dream or vision. Wisdom demands that we seek God. Live a life of worship and not seeking vision. You can position yourself to receive a vision, but ensure you put the worship of the father first. Fellowshipping and intimacy with the father is the basic foundation we must develop in positioning ourselves to receive visions and revelations.

Vision can be given to us at anytime if we continue to walk with the Holy Spirit and getting lost in His presence.
