This booklet is aimed particularly at sufferers of P.T.S.D. because there is hope that you can fully recover from the extreme stress /stresses that you have experienced, for some of you over many years.

In fact, P.T.S.D. is in some ways much easier to work with energetically than someone presenting with something less tangible such as low self esteem, or mental health issues.

No one really knows why stress or disruption to our energy system affects people in different ways. For some it will first be evident in stomach issues such as colitis, diverticulitis, stomach ulcers etc., for others it could be kidney stones, heart problems, muscular problems such as myasthenia, and then of course we have all the cancers.

The common thread for every health issue is damage to the electrical system, for those whose reaction can be seen there is more of an understanding that something is wrong, although the common perception is that the sufferer’s body has let them down, when in fact quite the opposite is true.

But when we talk about P.T.S.D. there is nothing for anyone to see and identify, although I can promise you that in time there will be, the symptoms for which will certainly not be seen to be linked to the P.T.S.D. I have a theory as to why P.T.S.D. occurs but theories don’t help you overcome the debilitating effects, but understanding the energy system does help and once that leap has been made a resolution follows.

In my work as a kinesiologist practising energy medicine I have come to learn how events, sometimes not even considered stressful, can eventually affect our health and ultimately pervade our life in general.

It is an accepted fact that our body works on energy; we have an electrical system which, if it could be hooked up to a house, could power that house – that’s how powerful our electrical system is.

What happens to our energy system over time, no matter how well we think we have dealt with life’s ups and downs?

If we can accept that the human body is governed by energy in the form of synapses, the interaction of our cells communicating via electrical impulses, we can start to see how even minor disruption to the flow of messages can lead to a health issue.

To describe what happens with our body when our energy is disrupted one could say it is a little like driving along a road after a storm; there are leaves and little twigs and branches on the roadway. They are small, so we can either drive over them or around them without too much effort; but the next storm is a little stronger and this time there are branches of trees on the road, some small and some larger but we can still go around them. But when the next storm hits, there are large limbs or even a whole tree across the road and we can no longer negotiate our way forward.

This is what happens to our bodies when we have to deal with, on a daily basis, mini stresses which we have to ignore in order to carry on with our busy lives. The human body is clever enough to work out that this minor disruption to our energy can be by-passed, we have after all trillions of cells so we can let a few be put on bypass quite safely. However over time we have several more mini stresses, or even a very noticeable stress and often we have felt we have dealt with it properly, but not thought about the damage to the energy system. Now the body is running out of options, too many cells have had to be bypassed to keep the body functioning properly, and the energy is now compromised.

The next step along this road is for us to experience some kind of health issue, if we are lucky it will be something which is obvious and for which we can find a treatment. If unlucky, it might just stay as an emotional issue affecting our mood and our brain; and I say unlucky because these instances are harder to identify, but they are fixable.

Of course if we go on ignoring all these minor irritations, say indigestion, a rash, hives, headaches, sore muscles, etc. then the body will have to decide that enough is enough and a major irritation is coming your way. Even now there is a way to restore the energy system without the intervention of medication or over-the-counter treatments, which is where people like me come in.

Once you can understand that an unusual event – and that can be a good one such as seeing a loved one after a separation, the birth of a child, meeting your future partner, someone paying you a compliment etc. – or the bad where something untoward or downright bad is happening will affect your electrical system.

The good experiences of course just make us feel good, they have touched our heart and, in some cases, even given us extra energy and a feeling of wellbeing.

The bad on the other hand first touch our heart (although we are not aware of this on a conscious level), may immediately go to the digestive system, but normally will be directed to the brain stem – our most primitive brain – which will then shunt it off to one of the other three brain areas or it will stay in the brain stem.

Depending on which brain relay is then affected dictates how we will ultimately outwardly show the effect this electrical impulse has had on the body. So when I see a client with a sore knee, stiff neck, digestive issues, I have the first clue to the type of incident which has affected them.

But with P.T.S.D. things are different. In most cases the stress to the electrical system has occurred over a long period, slowly building to the point where the body can no longer ignore the resultant stress. Often people who suffer from P.T.S.D. will be the strong, stoic type, chosen for their ability to withstand experiences most of us would find incomprehensible to process.

Because we are all individuals P.T.S.D. becomes obvious in different ways. Occasionally it can be due to just one traumatic incident, and that is very easy for someone like me to work with because we have a definite starting point. But for most it is a build up of extraordinary events occurring over a long period of time, with maybe the last event being the “final straw” as far as that body is concerned. This also is eminently suited to energy work, but does take longer because there will have been more instances of stress.

One of the theories posed by the creator of E.F.T. is that if we can find the initial starting point for stress the rest will begin to resolve. Even though this is not always possible, partly because we are often unaware of stress striking us, it is still possible to resolve all the damage to the electrical system safely and, most importantly, stress free! Provided, of course there has been no structural damage along the way, which of course not the case in P.T.S.D.

A psychology friend of mine likened P.T.S.D. to someone not being able to act in the way they would really have liked to, and that seemed a reasonable answer, until I studied energetic medicine only to find that it is really due to a disruption in the energy not to a feeling of being unable to act the way one would have wanted, although that feeling may also be present.

So first of all, we have to acknowledge that what is happening to a person with P.T.S.D. is not of their making, is not fixable with medication which will only mask what is going on inside the body, and the feelings of guilt, helplessness, hopelessness etc are indicators of where to look to restore the energy.

When I first studied E.F.T – the now famous tapping technique – I did so with a feeling of “this sounds like mumbo-jumbo” not of the scientific background of my kinesiology. What I did discover instead was a wonderful tool for smoothing out the energy and once a client is cleared of any major disruptions it is one they can use themselves every day to keep themselves stress free.

Sound too simple? My thoughts exactly, but when I watched the creator of E.F.T., Garry Craig, work with returned servicemen from the Vietnam War in the U.S.A. who had been either in-patients at a Vet hospital or day patients all of which were on medication, lacking a good night’s sleep – some of them from the end of their tour of duty even. This man came along, worked with the patients and all of those he worked with had massive improvement in their symptoms, were able to sleep naturally for the first time in ages, and their medications were tailed off – no longer needed.

And this latter point is something I think is very important. Whilst chemicals can mask what is really going on, in the long term they are all detrimental to our health in some way. Some have side effects which are exactly the same as those for which they were originally prescribed. Others affect different parts of the body, slowly affecting the natural order of the body keeping itself healthy.

However, unless you are able to “think outside the square” they are the only alternative, probably making life a little more bearable, maybe not driving someone to drink to oblivion etc. so they do have their place.

But there is an alternative, which is medication free, trauma free, and so easy that 10 years in, I still find it a wonder that it does work. You don’t have to believe in it, you can be as sceptical as you like, in fact I encourage my clients to be just that. You see the human body wants to be fit and healthy, after all it works on your behalf to be just that 24/7 without any conscious thought on our behalf.

I haven’t come across a “body” yet which hasn’t wanted to take advantage of getting well, naturally, in fact I find that often instinctively that body wants everything fixed!

p<>{color:#000;}. No symptoms = no stress

*
p<>{color:#000;}. [*Only major symptoms of stress require treatment]

[This is the biggest myth of all – it is the slow build up of many, often minor, stresses which eventually bloom into P.T.S.D.*]

This incredible piece of engineering gives so many hints that stress is building up and we tend to ignore them. A simple headache, right through to migraine (and contrary to popular belief that is a relatively easy symptom to clear), to major health issues before we get to the major indicators such as organ failure though there are many, many hints that something is awry.

These are just a few of the manifestation of a build up of stress

*
p<>{color:#000;}. Indigestion

*
p<>{color:#000;}. Heart burn

*
p<>{color:#000;}. Hives

*
p<>{color:#000;}. Allergic reactions

*
p<>{color:#000;}. Coughs & colds

*
p<>{color:#000;}. Bronchitis

*
p<>{color:#000;}. Asthma

In fact every single health issue has its basis in stress.

For example fight & flight – designed to be our saviour in difficult/stressful situations affects our lungs by emptying the lungs as much as possible so we can take in as much air as we might need to run away; it affects the blood vessels – thinning the walls of the arteries so they can carry more blood, faster together with the production of adrenaline to get is through the emergency either by fighting or being able to remove ourselves quickly from a dangerous situation.

This is an autonomic process and once the emergency is perceived to be over our body should return to normal once more. However, if the stress has not been dealt with satisfactorily then the body does not return to normal.

The adrenaline in the form of cortisol will continue to be over-produced and become it’s very own form of stress!

Stress Affects…

Our Relationships

Very often I have worked with a client, and in passing they may have recited issues with others, maybe relatives or co-workers, they have found difficult to cope with. However, once their own issues have been resolved these difficult relationships seem to improve without any effort from either side!

This to me is yet another indicator that our energetic body has a lot more to do with our interactions with the world than first thought. I can safely say that there has not been one client whose interaction with the outside world has not improved.

Our Daily Lives, Dreams & Ambitions

I get a bit tired of those pushing such publications as “The Secret” causing people to spend unnecessarily, trying to force themselves to think positively and all will miraculously manifest itself.

Not so, we fail to achieve when there is damage to our energy, and we only have to recall earlier examples of feeling vulnerable, time poor etc – these are all indicators of stress on our energetic system. We just have to learn to listen to our bodies and the thoughts, feelings, emotions it generates.

The good news is, unless there is structural damage to the body all these things are fixable.

Jobs & Money

I had one male client (who really was very sceptical of the type of work I do, and probably will never really acknowledge he had a problem in the first place!) was fearful he was going to be sacked or at best demoted. Because of his age – mid 50s – this would, in his mind, be disastrous. This fear, which appeared irrational to the outsider, actually had its beginnings in an incident some years previously. Obviously the current situation and the past had similarities.

After a working on his energy system, not only did he not get demoted, or lose his job – he was promoted to a top position in the company. Money which had been a real stumbling block suddenly resolved itself in some very mysterious ways and life was on the up once more.

We don’t realise how much we limit ourselves and experience disappointment and failure – when really it is ourselves we need to fix – repair that damaged energy and the sky is the limit (or at least limited by your imagination!).

The Fight & Flight Process

We constantly cycle through the fight/flight process and mostly self correction occurs without us even being aware of it happening. If you do find yourself stuck, a quick pinch or slap will return the body back to normal balance. (Remember the old films when someone became hysterical and a slap across the face was administered?)

When this process does occur however what is really happening is our lungs empty by reducing cells as much as possible in order to take in as much air as may be required to either run away or to fight our way out of the situation. Next, the arteries have to be ready to allow a faster flow of blood at a quicker rate than when resting for example. In order to do this, the artery walls have to thin to allow this greater capacity and when the danger is over, what we consider as the “bad cholesterol” is what is used by the body to repair the thinned artery walls.

The big problem with this is, if the perceived danger has not been properly addressed and dealt with, we cycle through the fight/flight process constantly, thinning and repairing the artery walls and because that cycle hasn’t been broken the cholesterol will build and eventually block the passage of blood safely and adequately to the heart.

Evidence Of Fight/Flight In Progress

A surge of adrenalin, heart pumping, and if unchecked, an appearance of being a little hysterical or being a bit over emotional would be the outward signs. Probably adrenalin being the most recognised feeling.

But blood will flow quickly, muscles are ready for action – unfortunately we are in overdrive and the brain doesn’t always keep up! In fact the brain takes second place in these situations. The rush of blood – and because of the energy about to be expended – the massive use of water which is needed to keep the electrical impulses going – means that dehydration slows the thought processes first.

Always when there is dehydration the brain is the first to be affected, which is why so many elderly people don’t realise they haven’t been drinking enough fluid when they are hot and they can very quickly deteriorate without realising there is a problem.

My message to anyone suffering from stress – be it as severe as P.T.S.D. or feeling unable to cope, and everything in-between is that there is a safe, easy remedy which requires neither medication nor the re-living of unpleasant events.

In fact, if there is any emotion left regarding these events then a full repair of the energy has not yet taken place.
