This guide is going to walk you through the process of launching a bestselling book within 5 days of launching it! You read that correctly. This is the top-secret blueprint that so many bestselling authors use to launch their books.

My overall goal is to make this process as simple as possible. By explaining it in an easy to follow step-by-step method, I hope that you will be able to duplicate the same results that I have seen countless times.

In order for you to get started, you will need all of the following:

p<>{color:#000;}. A high quality book that will receive positive reviews. A poorly written book will never become a bestseller.

Successful book launches do not happen by accident. They are planned from the beginning. There is a lot of preparation that goes into a successful book launch. There are a lot of very specific decisions that you have to make behind the scenes.

Are you ready to get started?

[]Phase 1: Pre-Launch

Step 1: Choose a Launch Date

First, you must choose a launch date. It must be at least two weeks from the date your book is ready to upload.

Step 2: Upload Your Book onto Kindle Direct Publishing

The reason that you chose a launch date at least two weeks later than the day your book is ready is because you need to upload it onto Kindle Direct Publishing two weeks in advance of its release date. There are several reasons why this is so important:

p<>{color:#000;}. It gives you time to ensure that it’s formatted correctly. If there are issues uploading your book, then you have time to fix them.

p<>{color:#000;}. You can collect reviews before your book’s launch date. This will be discussed in a moment.

With that said, do not upload your book more than two weeks before you launch it because that will cause you to miss out on the “Hot New Releases” section.

Step 3: Write an Amazing Description

I always put a lot of emphasis on writing a killer book description. It’s so important that you treat your book’s description with the same diligence as you would sales copy, because that’s exactly what it is!

Although your description should contain Amazon Buyer Keywords, it should also hook the buyer into previewing your book. If they start reading your book (assuming that it’s well written), then they are very likely to buy it. You might consider hiring a copywriter to do this for you since they specialize in sales copy.

Finally, make sure that you use Amazon’s cool orange header format. You can do this by writing the description through Amazon Author Central. If this is your first book, then you won’t have access to Author Central. If that’s the case, then you will need to format your headline on launch day.

Step 4: Choose the Right Categories

During the uploading process, you are asked to choose up to two categories for your book. This is a very important step because Amazon lists bestsellers in every category. Therefore, you want your book to be placed into the correct categories.

As a general rule, more specific categories are preferable to broad ones.

For example, if you wrote a financial book, then the “Business & Money” category would be too vague. It would be almost impossible to rank #1 in that category since there are so many books listed in it. Instead, you would want to narrow it down to a more specific category like “Business & Money > Home-Based Business.”

Step 5: Enroll your Book into KDP Select

For the purpose of this guide, I want you to enroll your book into KDP Select. In a lot of cases, I actually recommend leaving your book out of this program since it limits you to only publishing your book through Amazon.

However, the process that we are using in this guide is designed to allow those new to the publishing world to achieve super-fast results. For it to work, you will need to utilize Amazon’s awesome promotional tools. Those tools are only available for books enrolled into KDP Select.

All you have to do is select the option to “Enroll Your Book into KDP Select” on your book’s detail page.

Step 6: Schedule your Free Promotion Days

The idea is to launch your book with a 5-day free promotion. If you want to get even better results, schedule your launch day for a Friday since book sales spike on the weekends. Then start your free promotion on the day that you plan to launch the book.

Step 7: Start Finding Reviewers

Yes, we are doing this pre-launch. Send free copies of your book to your network and tell them that you will be asking for reviews when you launch your book. Give them your launch date.

There are several different ways that you can convince your network to leave reviews:

p<>{color:#000;}. Agree to guest blog posts.

p<>{color:#000;}. Give them something in return for their review. A free report works well.

With that said, there are two things that you should never do:

1. Never pay for reviews.

2. Never ask specifically for “5-Star Reviews.” Ask for an honest review.

Step 8: Upload your Book to CreateSpace

While the majority of book sales are made through Amazon Kindle, it’s still beneficial to publish your book in paperback format as well. For starters, when Amazon lists your book, it will show both prices so the Kindle version will seem like an amazing deal!

For example, if you price your paperback book at $17.99 and your Kindle book for $3.99, then Amazon is going to show it at a savings of $14!This adds a lot of perceived value to your book.

Of course, another advantage of having a paperback version of your book is that it makes you come across as much more professional. A lot of buyers will not even consider buying an eBook unless it also has a paperback version. The reason is because they don’t see eBooks as “real.”

In order to set up your book with CreateSpace, you will have to set up an account. Then upload your print-ready files and fill in all of its information. Most of this will be the same as your Kindle edition. Amazon will then automatically connect the two versions.

Step 9: Submit your Book to Free Promotional Listing Websites

There are a lot of book sites on the web that allow publishers to list free book promotions. These sites are often overlooked. It only takes a few minutes to submit your book so you might as well give it a shot. I have personally seen varied results using this method but since it only takes a few minutes, it’s worth giving it a shot.

Keep an eye out for the promotion sites that attempt to charge a fee. Stick to the free sites. Some sites might require you to become a member. If it’s free, then go ahead and sign up.

You must submit your book on these promotional sites at least one week prior to your launch date. Personally, I recommend you get this done as soon as possible so that the website has enough time to review and list your book.

Step 10: List the Price of your Book for $4.99

This is another step that many people never consider. Pricing your book at $4.99 gives your free download more perceived value. For example, if a buyer sees a book that is priced at $0.99 listed as free, they are not as interested because it doesn’t appear as valuable. On the other hand, if the same buyer sees a book that normally costs $4.99 listed as a free download, then they are much more likely to download it because they are getting more value.

[]Phase 2: Launch Day

There are two ways that you can launch a new book: free and paid. There are ups and downs to each method. For the purpose of this guide, we’re focusing on a free launch. The goal of a free book launch is to reach as many readers as possible at the cost of sacrificing royalties for the first five days. For beginners, this sacrifice is going to be a very small amount.

Day 1

On Day 1, your job is to spread the word. Start by sending out a friendly reminder to those who agreed to review your book. Have them go ahead and download the book, then post their review. Hopefully, you can land at least five reviews.

Then send a message out to your email list. Let them know that your book is now available for free on Amazon, but it’s a limited time offer! That will build a sense of urgency. If you have an awesome email list, then you will see a high percentage of them click-through to your book.

Next, let your social media following know about your new book. This potentially exposes your book to thousands of people.

Finally, let your friends and family know to download your book. Tell them just how much it will help you if they go and download your book.

The goal of your first day is to get into the top 100 of your book’s two categories. If you chose specific categories, then that could happen within the first few hours.

Optional: Set up a Facebook Ad Campaign

This section is completely optional but I highly recommend that you follow through with this small investment. It will give you a huge push in the right direction. In fact, Facebook advertising is one of the most cost-effective solutions at your disposal. You can run ads for as little as $0.05 per click. Here are a few things that you need to keep in mind before continuing.

1. Research Facebook ads in more detail before continuing. They can be a bit tricky so it’s a good idea to do your homework before spending money. I am going to help you get started but going over every detail is outside the scope of this guide.

2. Start with a small budget of no more than $50. You don’t want to risk big money on your first campaign.

3. You can use your Facebook ad to send users directly to your Amazon book’s page when running a free promotion. However, never try to sell your book directly with a Facebook ad. Once your free promotion has run its course, have your Facebook ads send users directly to your website sales page.

Here are some tips to get started using Facebook Ads.

Send Visitors Directly to Your Free Book’s Amazon Listing

The goal of your Facebook launch campaign is to get users to your book’s page on Amazon. You will be running this ad for 5 days, starting with the day of your book’s launch. So your ad should run parallel with your book’s free promotional period. In this scenario, you should send users directly to your book’s page on Amazon.

With that said, if you still plan on running your Facebook ad to promote your book after that free promotional period, then you should create a sales page on your website and send users to that page, rather than your book’s Amazon page.

Create Targeted Ads

If you use vague headlines like “check out my book,” then you will not get a very good response. Instead, write a headline that targets a specific audience and really hooks them. For example, if I were to write a headline for this guide, then it would look something like this:

Become a Bestselling Author in Just 5 Days!

A headline like that targets a specific group of people while also hooking them. They will want to learn more.

Ask a Question

Better yet, ask a question with your Facebook ad. It’s a great way of hooking your audience. With that said, let’s improve the previous example headline with this one:

Want to Become a Bestselling Author in Just 5 Days? Learn how by Downloading this Free Guide!”

Day 2

Send out another email to your list and remind them that your book will only be free for four more days! Do the same with your social media following.

You also want to remind everyone that once they have read your book, then it would help you tremendously if they leave a review on Amazon. The more reviews your book has, the higher your book will rank.

By this point, your book should be ranked high (at least Top 500) in the overall free rankings on Amazon.

Day 3

Keep posting on social media and sending out emails. However, this time I want you to take a few screenshots on your book’s ranking on Amazon. Take a moment to thank everyone who has downloaded your book. Ask open ended questions on Facebook and Twitter to get fans to interact with your posts.

By this point, you will be getting a lot of organic downloads on Amazon from people searching your book’s categories.

Some of you will notice your book climbing in rankings in broader categories as well. If you can get into the Top 10 in broad categories, then you will start noticing an insurgence of downloads.

Day 4

Send out an email to your list that time is running out for downloading your book. This creates a sense of urgency that convinces those who might have been delaying to act now. Post the same message to your social media followers as well.

Before bed, go onto KDP and change your book’s price to $0.99. It will take at least 12 hours for this new price to take effect.

Day 5

This is known as “Transition Day.” It’s the day where your book will transition from free to paid so when you send out your final message and post, be sure that you note the time when your book will stop being free.

At noon, log into your Kindle Direct Publishing account and manually stop your free promotion. If you don’t manually cut off the promotion, then it will automatically transition at midnight. As you can imagine, not very many people download books after midnight. If your book were to transition at that time, your book would lose a lot of momentum.

Manually cutting off your free promotion at noon will ensure that your book’s momentum is maintained during this transition. Having your book priced at $0.99 at transition will also encourage paid sales. This helps get it listed in the “Hot New Releases” section.

Days 6 + 7

Send out an email and tell your social media followers something like this:

The free promotion is over, but it was so successful that I decided to offer it at $0.99 for today only! So if you haven’t picked up a copy, get it today!”

Then thank everyone who downloaded it for free, post screenshots of your final rankings and ask for reviews.

[]Phase 3: Post-Launch

Step 1: Keep the Price at $0.99

You set the price to $0.99 on Transition Day so keep it that way for now. What this does is help your book maintain its momentum so that it climbs in the paid bestseller rankings. Try to get your book into the #1 Spot in its category. Then take a screenshot to prove that your book is a bestseller.

Step 2: Add Testimonials

Using Amazon Author Central, you can add testimonials to your book’s page. I’m sure that you have received a few messages praising your book by this point, so add those as a testimonial.

Step 3: Increase your Book’s Price

Once your book’s ranking peaks (or it reaches #1 in its category), increase the price to the desired amount. I recommend that new authors set their book’s price somewhere between $2.99 and $4.99. Yes, your book sales will decline, but you will be earning more per sale.

By this point, your book will probably be earning somewhere in the range of $500 per month in royalties. That might not seem like a lot, but keep in mind that this is passive income. Plus, there are so many more advantages to having published a bestselling book.
