STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE AND NOT PERFECTION
“Successful people love what they do and feel compelled to express the best that is within them. They don’t strive to be better than their neighbors or contemporaries they strive to be better than themselves.” ~Brian Souza
Are the curricula of today sufficient for our young people to compete on a global level?
U.S. Millennials may be the most educated generation in U.S. history. Despite this fact, data shows they are entering the world’s workforce degreed and unskilled. A Princeton study, showed that U.S. Millennials demonstrated severe incompetence in literacy, numeracy, and problem solving skills when compared to their international peers. The U.S. Millennials were thought to be the dream team generation of the U.S. and the world. They were to be better, faster, and smarter than any generation before them.
We are witnesses to the world’s transformation into a true interdependent society driven by the globalization of economics, politics, culture, and law. The need for an individual to be competitively skilled on all levels (socially, mentally, and physically) will be paramount!
The ability to identify and develop your competitive edge may prove to be your greatest asset. So what does this mean? American millennials are highly educated yet incompetent! Are they right? How did this happen? Have we focused too much on degree attainment?
Has the minutiae of testing and school rankings blinded us to what is best for student development? Has the entire educational system become inadequate at preparing students for the world’s workforce?
Could the increasing polarization and inequalities of the economy be a direct result of the degreed and unskilled? You can’t change what you don’t acknowledge. The focus of degree attainment must shift to skill attainment.
We must drive this debate to a national level. Effective, lasting change will not occur until this nation as a whole acknowledges this matter. Tuitions have gotten too high while content has become obsolete.
The cause and effect of this problem requires us to peel back the layers of problems to develop and implement effective solutions. Additions like the DMD Group are needed to bridge the gaps of education and communication between the teachers, parents, and students. Should we fail to turn this matter around the effects on our millennials, our country, and our world will be far reaching. Failure is not an option!
We don’t have all the answers but here is how we get started. Organizations that are about equipping individuals with the tools and resources necessary to compete at the highest levels of life and business like DMD Group LLC must come together and form a dragnet across the nation. This is not an individual thing, local, state, and federal must be unified on this effort to restructure our education system and restore the country’s infrastructure.
In order for them to be successful with these resources students must be taught understanding and implementation of knowledge. Therein lays the challenge! The world has changed and so must we! Our reason and purpose for education must change. It needs to be cutting edge, innovative, and creative. Most of all, education must become more fundamental and practical. Currently, our focus must be on the youth and education, but our ideologies are intended for a much broader purpose.
DMD Group says not only must we teach these students understanding and implementation of knowledge. We must teach them to share and teach others to do the same. What does the current and future workforce look like?
The best paid will be ever growing entrepreneurs, doctors, engineers, and highly skilled trades men (HVAC, Electricians, and Plumbers). The poorly qualified, lowly skilled car washers, cashiers, and burger guys are in trouble. There will be less and less need for these types of positions. The days of making a living and providing for your families with positions such as these are over. You won’t be able to make it. Resistance to change is understandable; after all, we are creatures of habit.
This quote puts things into perspective: “A pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty.”
What difficulties and opportunities should we be aware of going forward? Community Learning and Development (CLD) has a really great take on the question: New knowledge brings new issues, often in the form of previously unimagined ethical dilemmas (Up ahead).
Think for example of the life Sciences: stem cell research, performance enhancing drugs, generic engineering all full of useful possibilities. But also capable of transforming society in ways we didn’t foresee and may not wish. So, we have to remember we are not just educating workers, but also citizens.
People with the knowledge and skill, and inclination to try to ensure society chooses wisely. As well as workers and citizens; we are also educating unique human beings. Will they thrive and enjoy fulfilling lives in this world of constant; and faster change? Can education give them the self-confidence, the adaptability, the strong values (like decency), that such an environment requires.
Whether it’s the formal settings like colleges and universities or less formal settings like community learning and development; neither standard disciplinary learning, nor interdisciplinary learning are sufficient principles alone. Imagine the merger of these two principles combined with the much needed fundamental and practical disciplines of understanding and implementation of knowledge.
How would that look? How would the teachers react to this concept? What would the finished product of this ideology look like?
DMD Group predicts students and teachers would have a newly formed vigor and rapport with one another. Educators, Curriculum Designers, and organizations like DMD Group will form collaborations and networks.
How will all of this look? We have no way of knowing without further exploration. What will be the finished product? A student thoroughly equipped with the principles and disciplines necessary to develop their Transferable, Cognitive, and Practical Skill like: Critical and Creative Thinking, Problem Solving, and numeracy would emerge.
These students will effectively draw from their various disciplines collectively and apply them to whatever challenges the world throws at them. They’d be successful life learners, confident, well rounded human beings.
Their abilities would be limitless! This is a lifetime process, in addition to your academia teachers and parents, you will need coaches and mentors, if you are ever to become that finished product. So let’s get started.
Mentors provoke and stimulate in order to educate. At the end of each section there will be brain builder to provoke thought and allow your mind to start to work through issues to get maximum benefit from the next section.
• What are the goals you wish to accomplish in the next 6 months?
• What are the goals you wish to accomplish over the next year?
• Where do you realistically see yourself being in 5 years?
• Is that where you want to be?
• What are the obstacles in your way to achieve your goals?
In an effort to make these two teaching series The Process of Becoming and Root For De thought provoking, fun and engaging we make reference of really iconic movies like The Matrix, Star Wars, Lean On Me, and real life characters like the incredible little guy, De from my last book Un-Broken.
We use his misadventures; along with others, and current events to establish key points and lessons that you will be encouraged to hold open forums and debate about later. So, if you’re thinking to yourself not another boring text book! Don’t worry it’s not! You will be inspired by this little guy’s ability and many others to make the impossible possible.
Hello everyone, I am De Angelo R. Moody A Transformer of Society, The Problem Solver, and founder of DMD Group LLC; focusing on educational development and life skills for the youth in the real world.
It is my hope that you all will allow this series to act as a resource in your going through the process of becoming who you are meant to be and not what they; whoever they are, says you are supposed to be.
I encourage you to challenge my points, take notes, make highlights, and discuss what is shared here, as we see what happens when the un-educated becomes the educated. After all, children that are looking forward to the future are not looking forward to jail.
What’s a Seeker and why you should be one?
What does it take to be acknowledged and respected as a Seeker?
How do you become a Seeker?
Everyone comes to this planet bearing a special gift that is truly unique to them. Many will go through life never knowing they had something special to share; the majority will cease to exist, never having shared.
Before I get into what I mean by this, allow me to share with you all a portion of a scene from one of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time, The Matrix.
Trinity: Right now, all I can tell you, is that you are in danger. I brought you here to warn you. They’re watching you, Neo. Please. Just listen. I know why you’re here. I know what you’ve been doing. I know why you hardly sleep, why you live alone and why, night after night, you sit at your computer. You’re looking for him.
I know because I was once looking for the same thing, but when he found me he told me I wasn’t really looking for him. I was looking for an answer.
It’s the question that drives us, the question that brought you here. You know the question just as I did.
When I asked him, he said that no one could ever be told the answer to that question. They have to see it to believe it.
The answer is out there, Neo. It’s looking for you and it will find you, if you want it to.
I’ve come to warn you. The Matrix is watching you and you are in danger! The answers that you and everyone else on this planet seek are not out there to find, they are within you to be unlocked with assistance.
Your ability to be content with life is at risk. Much like the Matrix, the objective is to encourage you to be adventurous, curious, and explorative. Attributes like these, would help you to discover your uniqueness and to develop your special gifts.
Agent Smith told Neo “You have a problem with authority Mr. Anderson. You believe you are special.” In the Matrix, its greatest law is unwritten: An individual is never to be self-aware, Conscious of ones surroundings or AWAKE!
This is unwanted in the Matrix. Why? One that is self-aware tends to be a truth seeker (I call them Seekers). They are willing to ask questions and challenge. Seekers may even be considered defiant.
The Matrix teaches you to learn to play the game of fitting in. Don’t rock the boat, just go along to get along. That’s called behaving yourself. Seekers are not game players, they are game changers. Seekers are about truth, justice, and correctness. They strive to do kind, just, righteous deeds. As long as going along to get along is pertaining to something positive, Seekers are all for it. Seekers are impervious to peer pressure.
An attempt to influence or impose your will on a Seeker to change their PMA (Positive Mental Attitude), values, or behaviors to conform to some group is futile. If deemed necessary, a Seeker will not only rock the boat, they will turn it over.
People will spend a life time, learning to play the game, trying to fit in. Seekers don’t have time for that. They are too busy standing out. Most of all Seekers don’t care anything about people miss labeling them and calling them names.
My job, the job of a teacher isn’t to try and change you. It is to help you identify and implement your purpose for being here. Through truth it all must start. Become a Seeker!
Mentors provoke and stimulate in order to educate.
• What has bought you here?
• What of the past is influencing you right now?
• Are you living your passion? What is your passion?
• Are you living your dream? What is your dream?
The Matrix deems the Seeker problematic, dysfunctional (not operating normally or malfunctioning), and defective (flawed or imperfect). They disconnect you from the collective and flush you down the drain into the sewers of the system.
Like a poorly charged battery, they throw you away. It doesn’t matter, your time of use, services rendered, or circumstances the fact that you’ve based your entire lifestyle around the reality of working for them until retirement being able to provide for your family, or that your title there defined you as a person matters not. Much like the Matrix, the most elite of our educational system is designed to process, evaluate, access, and prepare you to be an outstanding employee in a world of employment (trading hours for dollars).
Building the dreams of your employers and not yours; only to look up and discover you’re now the old used up battery, ready to be fired or retired. Sound depressing? Fortunately that’s all going to change, starting with you.
The definition of insanity is doing something over and over again while expecting a different outcome. That’s why most jobs should be considered a temporary Band-Aid.
Like a hamster wheel, the rat race of life entraps you in a fiercely competitive struggle with promises of wealth and power; you run your little heart out. Oblivious to its nature you run as fast as you can for as long as you can, just going nowhere fast.
There are countless people among you living like this, not even aware they are trapped in a life of servitude. A life without exploration, adventure, and discover is not a life.
It’s a program that ensures you will become exactly what they want you to be and not what you are meant to be. You must be adamant about developing your critical and creative thinking skills.
Learn to use your imagination and comprehension often. Seekers are thinkers and doers.
Mentors provoke and stimulate in order to educate.
• What is your fear?
• What beliefs are you holding onto tenaciously that are no longer allowing your life to work?
• Are you living your passion? What is your passion?
• Are you living your dream? What is your dream?
My two favorite things about becoming a Seeker: You develop an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a burning desire to answer this one question. Why Are You Here?
Until we become who we were born to be. True joy and happiness will never be known. (My life purpose is to help others discover theirs) Do you know where you going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to? Do you know?
My son is the youngest of my children. If you ask him today what are you going to be in life? He may say, a firemen putting out fires and rescuing babies in his shiny red firetruck. Ask him the same question after seeing his favorite movie Cars for the hundredth time, he’d say, he’s going to be a world class race car champion like Lightning McQueen.
Unlike adults, children do not imprison their minds. They remain open to all of the possibilities life has to offer them. Whereas adults, tend to duplicate popular patterns, that are inherently flawed like backbiting a friend, stepping on or over peers to further their careers.
This behavior leads to the development of an unethical mentality towards being seen, popular, and liked. These people must have the latest and greatest for no other reason then it’s the latest and greatest. They’re like a runaway freight train burling down the track, never to know true happiness or peace; only pain and suffering with fleeting moments of gratification.
Who and what are the associates, surroundings, and culture of this kind of individual? Why would you choose to duplicate a series of life patterns that guarantees pain, unhappiness and mental imprisonment? Why would someone do this? What I have to say starts with this scene from the Matrix.
Morpheus: You are here because you have the gift. We are trained in this world to accept only what is rational and logical. Have you ever wondered why? As children, we do not separate the possible from the impossible which is why the younger a mind is the easier it is to free while a mind like yours can be very difficult.
Neo: Free from what?
Morpheus: From the Matrix. Do you want to know what it is, Neo? It’s that feeling you have had all your life; that feeling that something was wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is but it’s there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad, driving you to me. But what is it? The Matrix is everywhere, it’s all around us, here even in this room. You can see it out your window, or on your television. You feel it when you go to work, or go to church, or pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth. What truth?
Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. That you, like everyone else, was born into bondage…inside a prison that you cannot smell, taste, or touch a prison for your mind. You take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake in your bed and you believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill and you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes. Remember that all I am offering is the truth. Nothing more.
“The 4 horsemen which keep people in bondage all of their lives: Poverty, Fear, Illiteracy, and Superstition.” Napoleon Hill
Why did Neo pick the red one? Was he really trying to find out what the Matrix was, or who and what he really was?
Which one would you have chosen red or blue? Why?
Like Neo, all of us want to know what this thing we call life is and what in the world are we supposed to do with it? In order to answer these questions a series of steps must be taken. We’ve already taken a few.
Now, I want you to focus on nothing and no one but yourself. Not so much your ambassador (the outer you), more the inner self, the real you. Think about your passions, the things that make you special. Get in tune with your inner voice, your spirit, GOD, the universe, the higher power, or intuition; whatever you prefer to call it.
Let the Seeker in you come forth and aid you to identify your calling, your life purpose. This is so important, I could make the entire series about this one topic and still I’d be only scratching the surface. Identifying your life purpose is not about looking outside of oneself so much as it is about looking within.
“Purpose automatically develops: self-reliance, personal initiatives, imagination, enthusiasm, self-discipline, and concentration. All of these being prerequisites for the attainment of success.” Napoleon Hill
A Seeker that is in tune with themselves and equipped with their life purpose can successfully unify the conscious with the sub-conscious; giving the Seeker clarity, focus, and direction.
Here are some of my personal notes of what I have learned from Napoleon Hill. A teacher and mentor, I have learned much from, through his lectures and books. Perhaps someday you will study some of his works and compare your notes with mine.
Definiteness of Purpose
1. Time is of the essence: Learn to budget your time by implementing a day to day plan of how to identify and live ones purpose.
2. Learn to recognize and focus only on opportunities related to your purpose.
3. Define and expect your confidence, integrity, and character to sore high.
4. Like a magnet you’ll draw to you what you are. Look to attract the favorable attention of people that can be of assistance in attaining and living your purpose.
5. The embracement of your life purpose frees the mind from its prison of limitations of fear, doubt, and anxiety.
6. Purpose makes one success conscious, the first step in the direction of successful achievement in all endeavors.
7. The effects of purpose on your PMA are profound.
8. See in vividly in your mind and act as if that which you seek to achieve has already manifested its self.
9. Back your desires by as many of the Basic Motives as possible!
10. Dedicate specific actions daily towards achieving ones goals, both mentally and physically.
11. Become a radical sellout at believing that you will achieve your goals.
12. Inactivity is the killer of achievement.
13. Whatever the mind feeds on, it attracts. Keep your mind off of things and circumstances you don’t desire.
14. Only confer with those that can aid in the attainment of your goals. Ask them directly for what you want.
15. Make it a habit of going the extra mile by doing or giving more than what was expected.
16. Keep your mind free of envy, anger, greed, hatred, jealousy, revenge, and fear.
If I’ve learned nothing else in this life, I’ve learned there is no self-made anything. People will come and go; and circumstances change. The only thing in life you have total control over, is your attitude. Build the type of Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) that will attract the type of people and things crucial to your prolong success in life.
We were never meant to be motivated by a title, position, stuff we have, or the cars we drive. All of that mess is meaningless without the desire to magnify the positive aspects of one’s self like: self-esteem, self- knowledge, self-respect, self-pride, and self-worth vs the negatives aspects like: pessimism, ridicule, ostracism, criticism, and self-doubt.
By identifying your purpose in life, all of this, along with other prerequisites of success instantly, becomes yours! Let’s visit another scene from the Matrix, where Neo had to commit to the discipline necessary to equip him-self with the tools and skills that will allow him to fully shape, mold, develop, and exploit the whole of his abilities.
Mentors provoke and stimulate in order to educate.
• What did you want to be when you were a child?
• Is what you do for a living close to what you wanted to do as a child?
• Describe who you are and what you do. Does this description fit the image of your ideal self?
• Are you spending more time working on your job than on yourself?
The knowledge, belief, culture, and environment (both physical & social) that you are exposed to has a profound impact on whether or not you will become who and what you were born to be. So, are you willing to go through the process of becoming?
Are you willing to see the truth for what it is, or will you see it the way you want to see it? They say the truth hurts. They also say the truth will set you free. So if the truth hits you like a ton of bricks and folds you like a lawn chair; will you just lay there immersed in your pain or will you get up and dare to push forward, in spite of your pain?
At this point Neo has not embraced his purpose, nor does he even know who he is or what his gifts are. However, he has become a Seeker (committed to the truth); and as a Seeker Neo has managed to conjure up the courage to challenge the core of his beliefs, change his present environment, and reject his current culture, just to prepare to receive the truth.
What’s my point? The path of self- discovery is challenging, at times it can seem downright impossible, and it certainly isn’t for the faint of heart. But, if you put in the work and free your mind, you find the price of self-discovery is priceless. Where as to become someone else simple means the cost of your life!
Put differently, failure to know thyself is to unknowingly become someone else; a slave voluntarily. Live in the present, look to the future and remember the past.” is something I mostly teach to adults and individuals that have been through a life altering event.
Today, I wish to use it to make a point to the youngsters out there. You don’t have to rediscover as much as you get to discover who you are. Everything is in front of you nothing but the past is behind you. Unlike Neo, you must learn to believe in your own importance before you can expect anyone else to.
No matter if you were born in wedlock or a bastard child like me, you are the born creation of two that came together in a right or wrong state. You could never be a mistake; it is not possible in the equation.
The purpose of procreation is to reproduce, therefore you being the born creation of that equation, is in fact the purpose and success. Don’t you see you were born a success? Never think of yourself as the mistake of others actions.
In fact, the only mistake in the equation is your parents came together to procreate without the intentions of yielding the success of its purpose. Don’t just think that you are special. Know that you are! Each and every one of you has a gift to share with the world.
I know some of you find this hard to hear and most of you will find it hard to accept, especially having been bought up in a culture that teaches you are NOT important. However, I insist that you are important, special, unique, and necessary!
But, you must first believe in your importance, your uniqueness, your specialness, before you can expect the world to. Start by saying aloud: You are full of it! You really are full of it. You are full of possibility, talent, and gifts.
The atrocity is, you don’t believe it. Let’s look at the scene of Neo in the dojo. The atrocity is you don’t need it, let us look at the scene.
Neo: This is incredible. I know Kung Fu.
Morpheus: Show me. Good. Adoption. Improvisation. But your weakness isn’t your technique. If you can free your mind, the body will follow. Again!
Finally a single blow catches Morpheus on the head. Tank, load the jump program. Both are standing on a building rooftop. You must let go of everything. You must empty yourself to free your mind. He spins, and jumps. He somersaults once landing on the rooftop across the street.
Neo: Okie dokie. He takes a deep breath. Yeah. Free my mind. Right. No problem.
He concentrates. Runs. Neo launches himself into the air in a single maniacal shriek --But comes up drastically short. His eyes widen as he plummets. Stories fly by, the ground rushing up at him, but as he hits --The ground like a trapeze net.
Morpheus: Everyone falls the first time. If you never know failure, how can you know success?
Wow! What a powerful scene. What is happening to Neo? He is jumping off of buildings, learning kung Fu, living on a space ship, and living with a bunch of people he doesn’t even know. Some might say that boy ain’t wrapped to tight. He’s lost it, right.
I’d bet, Neo, even thought he might be losing it. But Neo and those that would say that would be wrong! The boy hasn’t lost it, he’s just going through the process of becoming. Like a baby in the womb has to except the reality that in order for him to be born into this world, he has to go through the turmoil and struggles of labor.
That baby must be willing to give up all of his creature comforts and security of the embryo sac (placenta). No more tugging on the old umbilical cord for mommy to send down some food and libation all hours of the day and night, now you have to sound off (I want some milk).
No more floating around weightless, sleeping in your tricked out water-bed set at the perfect temperature, no bright lights, or loud sounds to disturb your peaceful rest; just the cool tunes of mommy’s heart beat and good vibrations in surround sound to relax your mind and keep your body at ease.
In time, this area of bliss starts to change. He starts to change. Instead of floating around weightless, swimming laps, and doing somersaults, he can barely move in there. Little him starts to feel cramped up and uncomfortable in there. Those long sleeps through the night turns into little cat naps.
The full course meals with free refills done turned into a Chick-Fil-A tooth pick with a courtesy cup of water. He doesn’t know what’s on the outside, but in order to continue to grow, he knows he’s got to come out of there! So he readies himself for the fight of his life and boy, let me tell you, it’s a hum dinger. He turns and gets into position to make his way out.
Pushing and tugging, he finally breeches; it’s bright, loud, and cold. He starts to shiver violently from the cold. His eyes hurt from the bright lights. He terribly startled by all of the loud noises he’s hearing for the first time. It is total pandemonium for him; quickly they his wind passages.
His lungs inflate for the first time as he gasps for air. Suddenly, he lets out a series sequels, as he proceeds to let everyone know how he feels about all of this. Nothing is familiar, everything is new to him.
Crying profusely, he’s capped, gowned, and rolled up in a little blanky; like a little glow warm, and handed to his mother. Suddenly, he gets his first familiar scent. He hears that soothing heartbeat, feels the warmth of her bosom, and recognizes mommy and daddy’s voices. No more tears, awe!
“There are 2 types of people who don’t ever amount to anything. Those who don’t do what they are told and those who don’t do anything else.” Napoleon Hill
Whether you become what they intended for you to be or become who and what you were born to be, you must go through a process.
The process of get a job, pay bills, and die, sounds like the tragic process the 2 types of people Napoleon Hill was referring to in the above quote chose. Versus going through the process of becoming, prepares and teaches you how to couple your education and skills with the unique abilities and talents we help you to recognize and discover with in.
Just like Neo in the dojo and the jump program. You will have a team (DMD Group) right there with you to coach and guide you through the process of becoming the best version of yourself followed by the process of discovering, embracing, and learning how to share your unique gift with the world.
If you are reading this book, DMD Group has already begun to help you. For us to really be effective you must do the work! Yes it’s going to take some very serious, focused effort on your part to hit your goals and become who you are meant to be, and it is going to be goooood!
That is why you have to be careful of who and what you allow yourself to be associated with. You will never evolve into the person you need to become in order to receive, maintain, and share your gift.
Be mindful of who you are following and what you are watching and listening too. These things along with your PMA can have a tremendous impact the process we take you through and your future.
Look at the challenges Morpheus had with striving to teach Neo that failure is a part of the journey to success. It doesn’t matter what we teach you, unless you rid your mind of that miss-education they taught you and the stinking thinking we tend to teach our selves.
Going back to The Matrix, let’s look at what happens the moment Neo starts to believe versus the moment Neo believes: Slowly he turns back and in his eyes we see something different.
Trinity: What is he doing?
Morpheus: He’s beginning to believe.
Agent Smith: I’m going to enjoy watching you die, Mr. Anderson. The sound of an oncoming train. Do you hear that, Mr. Anderson? Agent Smith grabs Neo in a choke-hold forcing him to look down the tracks. That is the sound of inevitability. Neo sees it coming and he starts to fight.
Agent Smith: It is the sound of your death. Good-bye, Mr. Anderson.
Neo: My name is Neo. Neo back-flips up off the tracks just as!-The train barrels over Agent Smith.
Up until this moment, all of the key players around him believed he was the one, but Neo didn’t. He didn’t believe what his teachers and mentors were telling him and showing him. In spite of the fact he has progressed through the process of becoming in leaps and bounds; Neo still persisted to hold back.
Why? He doubted himself, he was afraid, and most of all he didn’t believe in himself, his gift, and his purpose. Until now the only thing he believed in was his mentor Morpheus and his importance to the cause of humanity.
In the subway station showdown of Agent Smith and Neo, when he thinks to himself run, but says aloud no! The inevitable stage of his internal fight to continue to run from his gift, out of fear, or stand and fight by drawing from a source of courage within had come to a head.
Right there on that platform, Neo started to believe the moment he stopped running and turned to face Agent Smith. First, the arduous stare down and then Neo rushed him! For a minute there, the boy gave as good as he got. Right up, until Agent Smith downloaded an upgrade or something.
Smith, proceeded to whoop that boy’s tail, like he stole something from him. Yeah, that boy got his boots laced out there. But, his eyes and his heart were filled with nothing but courage!
Neo had proven to himself that he could put it all on the line, with no guarantees and survive.
When in the Process of Becoming, we must define our belief and know they will be tested. At this level, the stakes are high and the risk may even be higher! The only guarantee is you will never be all that you were meant to be, if you don’t try! Watch what happens after Neo attempts to flee the fight with Agent Smith.
He must make it to hotel room 303 on Wabash and Lake: Neo scrambles up the fire escape, bullets sparking and ricocheting around him. He grabs the handle of 303, throwing open the door to find!-Agent Smith, waiting, .45 cocked. BOOM.
Neo falls, blood smearing down the wallpaper. Agent Smith says, “Good- bye, Mr. Anderson.” Neo’s heart stops. Outside of the matrix, Trinity speaks truth in his ear, kisses him and yells get up!
Two other agents and Smith are standing down the hall from Neo as he gets close, like a magician he stops the bullets in midair and plucks them to the ground. Neo returns the favor to Smith and hands him a L, except Agent Smith’s loss was permanent.
Neo took him out! Then, like something from a gangster movie, Neo got cold and picked up a pay phone and called the head of the Matrix. Here’s what he said, “Hi. It’s me. I know you’re out there. I can feel you now. I imagine you can also feel me. You won’t have to search for me anymore. I’m done running. Done hiding.”
Whether I’m done fighting, I suppose, is up to you. I believe deep down, we both want this world to change. I believe that the Matrix can remain our cage or it can become our chrysalis.
That in order to be free, you cannot change your cage. You have to change yourself. When I used to look out at this world, all I could see was its edges, its boundaries, its rules and controls, its leaders and laws. But now, I see another world, a different world where all things are possible. I see a world of hope and of peace.
I can’t tell you how to get there, but I know if you can free your mind, you’ll find the way. Maaan, Man, Man, Man, Man! How profound was that? Do you realize what has happened here?
No longer helpless, no longer paralyzed with fear he has freed his mind from its limitations. Through all of the training, growth, and uncertainty; he managed to get back on up on his feet. But, what was different about him?
How was he able to prevail in the system? How did he become such a force to be reckoned with? Neo finally found and embraced his purpose. When I say embraced, I mean developed an unflinching belief in his gifts and what he was born to do with them.
Like Neo you must discover and be about living your purpose. Only then will you know who you are and what you can be. Don’t become trapped in and of the system! Be above it, outside of it, bigger than it to know thy self, is to know thy purpose, and to know thy purpose; is to remove the limitations off of your mind. This is how you make the impossible possible!
If you want to become a force to be reckoned with like Neo, you must find something to live for; not only to live for but to die for. Now what does that look like? What is a cause worth sacrificing yourself for?
Am I talking about becoming trapped in and of the system! Be above it, outside of it, bigger than it. To know thyself, is to know thy purpose, and to know thy purpose, is to remove the limitations off of your mind. This is how you make the impossible possible!
If you want to become a force to be reckoned with like Neo, you must find something to live for; not only to live for, but to die for. Now what does that look like? What is a cause worth sacrificing yourself for?
Am I talking about extremism or fanaticism over some political or religious views? No! What about sacrificing your life over something so foolish as a crew, party, group, or gang that ascribes to racism and sexism? Maybe it would be worth the sacrifice over some boy or girl?
How about because of someone not liking you or making fun of you? Maybe, someone stepping on your new kicks, or touching your brand new, shiny car is worthy of the highest sacrifice you could ever make? Or maybe it’s over a dollar or two.
Under this present culture of go for self I’m getting mine before you get yours, survival of the fittest is the only way to keep your edge sharp. Step on me, before I step on you. Learn to leverage right? No. Many of you probably have said yes to the questions and statements above.
There was a time I would have agreed with you; when I was in self-denial that is. But, in truth it’s the other way around.
When you embark on the path and process of becoming, you will find you don’t have time for individuals, groups, gangs, and organizations that promote envy, anger, greed, hatred, jealousy, revenge, and fear.
As your knowledge, belief, culture, and environment (both physical and social) begin to change, your PMA starts to become stronger; positivity does not breed or tolerate negativity. Opposites only go well together in science. People want to be happy, but most are afraid of what that will look like amongst the masses.
How would a demeanor of happiness, joy, and positivity be received in a place of business, a classroom, or in one’s neighborhood? Would that person be taken seriously and treated with respect, or would they be taken lightly, clowned, and brushed off?
Why do people walk around all hard, looking stressed out, and uptight with a mean scowl on their face? Are they crazy? Some are… more than likely, it’s fear of the consequences of being seen happy that makes them scowl. When you hear terms like: Go-getter, high achiever, mover and shaker, hustler, big dog, the man, or big Kahuna.
Terms like success, prosperous, powerful, and wealthy comes to mind. But what about happy, relaxed, minds at ease; not so much, it’s hard time to see the connection right? But terms like stressed, unhappy, and angry; you can see the association with powerful, high achieving Go-getters all day long.
I read a book by Richard Carlson, “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff” and here are some excellent points to consider in living your life’s purpose. Some of this is paraphrased, If you want to be loved by others, you must learn to be kind, patient, and forgiving.
Holding on to grudges, hatred, and anger is extremely exhausting. It yields little to no joy and will suck the life right out of you. Work towards being more relaxed and forgiving. You’ll feel inspired, creative, and driven to make an even greater contribution than what you’ve made in the past.
By changing your attitude and striving to embrace, trust, and live your life purpose. Life will become an extraordinary adventure: You’ll see solutions and opportunities where others see problems.
Rather than being discouraged by setbacks or failures, you’ll bounce back quickly and resiliently. Your energy levels will increase; you’ll become cool, calm, and collected under pressure. When everyone else panics and losses their cool, they’ll look to you, when the tough decisions need to be made.
Why? Because you are level headed. You will rise to the top. The personal and professional advantages you’ll gain will be unparalleled. Just dare to be happy and watch your life change immediately.
Now imagine, just for a moment: a classroom, a school, or a place of business with attentive, enthusiastic, jovial, inspired, and relaxed students, teachers, employees, and employers. Wouldn’t we be more productive than ever before? Could we cut the learning curve in half?
What would happen to the cost of doing business? If students were able to receive and apply information in half the time, would education be half the cost? What would happen to our quality of living?
Instead of always chasing a dollar and worrying about how to pay the next bill, wouldn’t people have more time to get in touch with their humanism, their families, and life in general? Darkness moves out of the way of light and in life positivity won’t tolerate negativity. If you are about living, you are either discovering your purpose or living it.
Know that your purpose is about giving to all of humanity. The things that people say or may try to do to hurt you will have little to no effect on you. The more you focus on fulfilling your purpose, the better your life will be.
Things like joy, happiness, self-worth, and peace of mind will become your norm. You will have a quality of life to die for. Some of you may be like me: chasing a dream while living a nightmare! Maybe, you don’t have a dream or maybe you believe you are unworthy of having a dream.
Some of you may have big gigantic, mammoth dreams; while others may have small, little, itty bitty dreams. Whatever the case maybe, wouldn’t you like to be in a world of peace. Where all things are possible, where hope is real? I’m not just talking about some abstract concept or ideology in a sci-fi movie.
I am talking about a world that is not filled with so much hatred and fragmentation. No more me and mine, yours, and theirs. How of about a world of ours!
A world where we all discover the true keys to untold riches and wealth was never about hoarding, getting, and taking, but about giving and doing. I have yet to find anything that gives you meaning, worth, direction, and insight into life like Purpose.
While I may have scratched the surface of the importance of purpose, I am sure that is all I have done. Your life purpose is the true north on your compass of life.
Times when you are lost, you’re not sure which way is up or down, or why you should go on. Your purpose will remind you, guide you, and give you the reason. It is that important!
So for now, I leave you with three things: in order for your life purpose to work as your magic wand through life. You must embrace it and believe it! Become a Seeker, discover your gifts, talents, and give them away through your purpose to all of humanity!
We must give them the necessary motivation to excel in their work. Make them want to go the extra mile in a combative market. What am I talking about here? Stress reduction and stress management.
I felt this strategy would be an excellent way to introduce this book because one of my goals is to convince you that it’s okay to be happy, kind, patient, more relaxed and forgiving. It’s to your advantage, personally and professionally.
You won’t lose your edge, nor will you be walked on you’ll feel more inspired, creative, and driven to make an even greater contribution than you do right now. You’ll see solutions and opportunities where others see problems.
Likewise, rather than being discouraged by setbacks or failures, you’ll bounce back quickly and resiliently. You will have increased energy, you’ll be able to work in the eye of the storm, and because you’ll be so levelheaded, you’ll be the one who is looked to when tough decisions need to be made.
You will rise to the top. If you dare to be happy, your life will begin to change immediately. Your life and your work will take on greater significance and will be experienced as an extraordinary adventure. You’ll be loved by others.

What has bought you here?
What of the past is influencing you right now?
Think of 5 things that if you were to accomplish them it would give you a great sense of fulfillment and self-respect. Write whatever they are down. They could be in your personal, professional life, your friendships and your family.
Of those five things you were asked to write down which one of them would make your life better. Choose one of them and answer the following questions.
What is the worst thing that can happen if you try but do not achieve your goal?
What are you afraid of!?
Imagine the best outcome. Write it down in detail. How will your goal look? Will you be happy? What will you drive, wear, have?
When you pass away, how will you be remembered? Will you die a member of one or all of the Triple D’s (Disgrace, Disrespect, and Dis- honor)?
How do you want to be remembered?
What contributions will you make to your family, your community, and the world?
Are you having a hard time picturing your vision due to your current challenges and circumstances? How would your vision look without these current circumstances?
What steps can you do to remove the challenges? Why haven’t you?
What of your skills, abilities, and resources will you contribute and share with the world?
With all that you will accomplish from this process of becoming, what will you develop or join that is bigger than you?
