Cigarette pants

Narrow pants cut to taper towards the ankle. These slim, shapely trousers get their name from their pipe like appearance.

A full-length skirt that fits till the hips and then flared on. It is a popular style in lehngas too.

Shift dress

A basic dressing style that has simple, straight lines and does not hug the body. It adds shape at the waist, flaring out or with darts. A dressing style which became popular in the 1960s.

Sheath dress

A simple, straight but fitted dress in which vertical darts, bust darts and shaping from side seams provide the fittings.

A stitching technique, in which the cloth is gathered, pleated or ruffled to form a ripple effect.

Stitching techniques used as a design element, pin-tucks are very narrow pleats made by folding the fabric and sewing along the fold.

Bias cut

The diagonal direction of a woven fabric, a direction in which the fabric stretches more than the length or width. A fabric cut in bias hugs the body in soft folds.

Dolman sleeves

This sleeve is cut as an extension of the bodice, creating a wide armhole that reaches from the waist to a narrowed wrist. Also known as batwing sleeve, this fits closely at the wrist and widens under the arm. From the back, it looks like a cape. It derives its name from a coat worn in the late 1800s that had a cape like sleeve.
