My Father, Hero and Best friend

DADDY I love you from here to the moon and back.

Writing a book is a bit like gathering some raw materials and through an extensive refining process, put them together. I can assure you that this is not done by one person. I want to specially acknowledge all those who have contributed towards making this great book a reality.

First, I want to give thanks to the Lord for giving me strength, wisdom and knowledge to put a book like this together. Without Him this would not have been possible. In a special way, I thank my parents Late Mr. Vincent Njoku and Mrs. Funmilayo Njoku for their care, support, prayers and love they poured on me. Dad and Mum, I love you from here to the moon and back. Dad I miss you like mad.

In the same manner, I want to thank my siblings beginning with my younger brother Kelechi Njoku for being a friend and a loving brother, Ngozi Njoku for being a good critic and the best sister in the world, Irechukwu Njoku for being there always, Sopuruchi Njoku for being my pastor and a caring brother and I can’t forget Christian Njoku for being a helpful friend and a brother. I must also thank Judith Uba, Peacequeen Okundia and Antonia for their endless contributions, support, love and care. I really miss you guys plenty.

This book will not be complete if I forget to thank my sweet heart Anna Palmer for her love, support, care and for still standing beside me from UNIBEN till the very moment; I love you plenty.

Big thanks go to my pastor and mentor, Pastor Jonathan for his prayers and motivation. He is the one who gave me the idea of even starting the book in the first place, without him this book would not have been. The same goes to Pastor Matthew and Rev. Gabriel.

What to do with those TALENTS 100

You need to GROW GOOD CORN 101

Is this the CONCLUSION? 102

A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals”. – Larry Bird

It all began on a Wednesday after a very powerful evening service in church. That day, I was called aside by my pastor and together we went outside the church premises for a brief discussion. After he had asked me how I was, how was my day and how was the service? Of which I gave him three positive answers, he went on to tell me he had a vision about me.

In the vision, he said he saw me climbing a high mountain with some other climbers too; we were climbing to get to the top of the mountain. I was fully dressed like a mountain climber in the vision according to him and if you know how mountain climbers dress you will know that they do have a small can of water with them. He said in the course of climbing this strange high mountain, I got tired occasionally which was normal and the people climbing with me got exhausted occasionally too. So whenever any of us got tired while climbing this mountain, I would stop to help the climber or myself with some water from my small can of water to quench our thirst and regain strength to continue our journey to the top.

We continued like this with me helping myself and my fellow climbers until we got to the top of the mountain. They also helped me in various ways for me to get to the top quickly and unhurt. He said on my arrival at the top of the mountain, I got to discover that there were many other climbers who were already through with climbing and so were on top of this strange mountain waiting. They were all looking exhausted, hungry, tired and so much in need of water and food. Some of them were even at the point of death and if not given water in a short while will die.

My pastor continued by saying that immediately they saw me with water, they all came rushing and running towards me even those that could not run were walking and those that could not walk were crawling. They all came asking; some were on their knees begging and others wanted the water by force.

I was left with no other option than to give them the water because they were ready to push me down from this strange high mountain if I refuse them the water. When I gave them the water to drink, something strange happened – the more they drank from this my special can of water, the more the container increased. They all drank to their utmost satisfaction then the last person who drank gave me back my can of water which was still filled to the brim.

By this time according to my pastor, everyone was happy, satisfied, healthy and full of life. Even those at the point of death were now filled, healthy and happy. Those that were restless were now filled with peace. Those who hated their life because of their location were now filled with hope for tomorrow. Those who wanted to leave the mountain top now had another reason to stay back. Thanks to my arrival and my special can of water. Pastor Jonathan concluded the explanation of the vision to me by saying that we were all happy, smiling, and celebrating and they all came to thank me in various ways.

After the conclusion he asked me “Brother Alex, do you know what this vision means?” I replied “No, not at all” wanting to know and hear more about this vision from this great man of God. In replying me he said “You climbing that mountain in the vision mean your struggles in life to get to the top of your destiny. The special can of water represents your God given talents and gifts. While climbing and struggling to get to the top, you need to help other people to get to the top of their own destiny, life and career with your talents and gifts. While they also do the same to help you get to where you are supposed to be in life.

He continued by saying, “You have to help other people with your talents and gifts. You have to impact the world with your gifts. You have to preach the word of God with it. If you keep it to yourself for any reason, be it fear of failure or otherwise a lot of people will suffer. So many people will not live to their full potentials. Some people will not be saved. And God will hold you responsible for that he said. When I left this great man of God, I pondered on the revelation. That night, the vision was all over my mind. “How am I going to help people with my gifts and talents?” was the only question and thought that ran through my head.

For about three days, I gave this question serious thought but did not come up with any reasonable answer. Then I shared the question and thought with a trusted friend, who suggested and asked me “Why not write a book?” the question came hitting me like a thrown stone and immediately I knew this was what I needed to do. This was exactly what I did and you have the result in your hands right now.

You are the same today as you will be in five years except for two things, the books you read and the people you meet”. – Charlie Jones

To help you quickly learn all the powerful principles I have provided throughout this book, I have organized and structured this book into three parts. Part one; “You are talented” addresses the importance of your God given talents and gifts. In this section, I explained to you from the scriptures that you are talented. Also in this section you will understand who you truly are and that you were created uniquely by God irrespective of your skin colour, race, country, religion, tribe etc. The benefits and characteristics of your talents are also discussed in this section.

The second part is “How to discover those talents of yours”. This section takes you deeper with the intention of helping you look inside yourself and discover the priceless seeds of greatness that God has placed within you. I also provided you with all the principles and questions that have helped me and countless number of people discover their gifts and talents. Am convinced they will help you discover yours.

The third part, “Go. You can do it”, will help you drop all the excuses that have held you back. It also shows what you are to do with the talents that God has given to you. It explains how to think and dream big with those talents of yours.

I must advice you to get ready! You are about to embark on an inner journey through which you will explore parts of yourself that perhaps you have rarely or never tested just to discover your talents and those seeds of greatness God has planted in you.

I guarantee you that if you follow and apply all the principles in this book; you are going to discover your God given talents and gifts. You will learn just how to develop and manifest those talents of yours. You are going to be successful while using those talents of yours. You will learn how to impact lives and fulfill your purpose. You will discover that you are uniquely and specially created. This book will change your mindset and edit your belief system.

This book will motivate you into giving your best, reaching for the stars, pursuing your dreams and especially about doing whatever you can to help others reach their full potentials and achieve their dreams too. It will also help you discover and focus on your core genius – to be better at what you were born to do, and be a huge success at the things you most enjoy.

Come with me let’s get started.

[]PART 1

To truly live, you must discover who you are, and develop what you have”. – Alexander BusyBrain

I believe that God has put gifts and talents and ability on the inside of every one of us. When you develop that and you believe that you are a person of influence and a person of purpose, I believe you can rise up out of any situation”. – Joel Osteen

A man died and found himself in Heaven where he met an angel. He asked the angel saying “I have been interested in military history for many years. Tell me, who was the greatest general of all time?” “Oh that’s a simple question. It is that man right over there” The angel replied pointing his finger to a man dressed in a shining white dress, standing next to other people dressed in the same apparel. They all seem to be very happy.

The man then said in surprise “You must be mistaken, I knew that man on earth and he was just a common labourer. The angel replied him with a broad smile saying “He would have been the greatest general of all time, if he had been a general. He was given the necessary tools but he never became a general.

What a tragedy! I don’t want you to end up like this man that was given everything he needed to become the greatest general in history but ended up a common labourer. You have been given everything you need both physically and spiritually. God has programmed you with everything you need for a great and victorious life (Ephesians 1:3).

Such great amount of talent has been deposited in you to make you the greatest teacher, singer, dancer, leader, footballer, mathematician, etc. in history. The scripture teaches that we have a valuable treasure on the inside. You have a great gift. You are a child of the Most High God. God has breathed His life into you. He planted seeds of greatness in you. You have everything you need to fulfill your God-given destiny.

God has already put in you the talents, the creativity, the ability, the discipline, the wisdom and the determination. It is all in you. You have something to offer that nobody else has. You didn’t just show up on planet earth by accident. You were handpicked by Almighty God. He saw you before you were formed in your mother’s womb and placed you here for a reason. You have an assignment. There is something that God wants you to accomplish. Someone somewhere needs your talent. Somebody needs your touch. Somebody needs what you have on the inside.

All you have to do is to discover and develop those great talents of yours; impact the world with it, fulfill your purpose for being in this world. That is the whole essence of this book. Read on and am sure you will discover those unique talents of yours.

Who is the greatest general? You! Yes. You! You can be greatest general in your sphere of influence and in any field that has to do with your talents because working with your talents is what you are here to do. It is what God has programmed you for and He has given you all you will ever need to do this.

[] Who is the MASTER CREATOR?

God who is eternally complete, who directs the stars, who is the master of fates, who elevates man from his lowliness to Himself, who speaks from the cosmos to every single human soul, is the most brilliant manifestation of the goal of perfection”. – Alfred Adler

Bible scholars believe that the book of Genesis was authored by Moses under theinspiration of the Holy Spirit. From this great book of Moses 1:1-2 we learn that the world was formless, empty and dark, and God’s spirit moved over the waters preparing to perform God’screative work. After that, God then began to speak into existence His creation. He madethe sun, seas, mountains, flowers, animals, birds, insects etc. out of nothing andaccording to the bible these things He did in six days.

Man was the last and most unique being that God created. God spoke other things intoexistence but He made Man from the dust of the Earth with His hands and gave him thebreath of life (Genesis 2:7). It is vital to note that the breath of life contains that talentthat God has given to us and His nature.God is highly creative, far above what the human mind can comprehend. Creativity isHis nature. He personally designed and created us with His hands. He put all the parts ofour body together and made them work together non-stop. To understand a little aboutthe creativity of God, let us take a look at the second most complex organ in the humanbody after the brain which is the eyes.

The human eyes weight approximately just under an ounce and is about an inch across. This particular small organ is composed of more than two million working parts. Atthe time of writing this book, an eye cannot be transplanted. More than one millionnerve fibers connect each eye to the brain and currently reconstruction of thoseconnections is not possible.

The human eye is made of 576 mega pixel, which is betterthan any camera you can possibly think of. 80% of our memory is determined by theeyes. A finger print has 40 unique characteristics, but an iris has 256, which is the reason whyretina scans are increasingly being used for security purposes. The eyeballs stay thesame size from birth to death. Just imagine the uniqueness and complexity of thosesmall eyes of yours that the Lord has created you with and you will agree with me thatGod is highly creative. No wonder the bible referred to Him as the creator.

Now here is the most beautiful part of it all. In Genesis 1:26 God said let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Image here means we look like God, if you want to see what God looks like, look at yourself in the mirror. While being created in his likeness means you have the characteristics of God. God can talk, you can talk; God displays love, you do same; you get hungry, God gets hungry too but He does not eat garri and rice like you; God created the world, you can create your world. That kind of God-like creativity lies within you and you can manifest this kind of creativity by working with those precious talents that God has planted within you from birth.

My friend, we all have that kind of creativity, in the form of talents deposited in every one of us because we are all God’s children and He made us in His likeness. We all carry God’s nature. We all have His (God’s) DNA. We can create, design and build our world to be a better place for us and others with our unique gifts and talents.

Who is the master creator? Am pretty sure you now know the answer to that question.

[] Did GOD speak of TALENTS in HIS WORD?

God is completely sovereign. God is infinite in wisdom. God is perfect in love. God in His love always wills what is best for us. In His wisdom He always knows what is best, and in His sovereignty He has the power to bring it about”. – Jerry Bridges

God keeps our world balanced by giving each of us natural talents and pleasure in doing what needs to be done for the good of everyone around us. God gave you the gifts you have; you didn’t choose them. Fulfillment comes when you use those gifts for Him. Your gifts are the key to discovering God’s will in your life. God speaks of this division of gifts in several places in His word. Genesis 4: 20-22:

(20) And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.

(21) And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.

(22) And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah. (KJV)

The scripture above mentions that Jabal was the father of those who raised cattle and purchased possessions. His brother Jubal was the father of all the musicians who played the lyre and pipe. His half-brother Tubal-Cain forged instruments made of bronze and iron. When Solomon built the temple, God empowered skilled craftsmen to do the work.

Yes, God did speak of Him giving you and me various talents and it is important to note that we can never discover our talents, gifts and potentials if we do not know who we truly are. We need to know and understand ourselves in other to discover our talents and reach our full potential. This is the focus of the next chapter.

[] Do you KNOW who YOU are?

Though our feelings come and go, God’s love for us does not”. – C.S. Lewis

Do you know you are a child of the Most High God? The same hands that made the stars, moon and sun made you. You were not mass produced. You are not an assembly line product. You were deliberately planned, specifically gifted and lovingly positioned on earth by God. You are the apple of God’s eyes. You are His most prized possession. You are valuable to God.

God loves you infinitely more than you can imagine. If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it. If God carried a wallet, your picture would be in it. If God has a phone, He would call you every morning, afternoon and evening just to tell you how much He loves you and how special you are to Him. He thinks of you every day and even right now He is still thinking of you. You are never out of His sight, He cares about every detail of your life, He gave you the capacity to enjoy all kinds of pleasure, He has good plans for your life, He forgives you, and He is lovingly patient with you.

He is looking at you from the heavens saying “That is my beloved daughter, isn’t she beautiful, that is my beloved son, isn’t he great?” *God loves you more in a moment than anyone could in a lifetime._ Billy Graham, the greatest evangelist of all time once said that [[*God proved His love on the Cross. When Christ hung, and bled, and died, it was God saying to the world, ‘I love you.’]_]God the great architect of the universe planned everything, and prearranged for you to be here at this particular time in history. You were pre-ordained to be here before the foundation of the world.

If you did not exist, there would be a hole in creation, a gap in history; something will be missing from the plan for humankind. You were engineered and designed by God in a very special way with all your special talents to impact the world with. You are uniquely, wonderfully and fearfully made. You are made equal to the angels (Luke 20:35). You are made in the image and likeness of God.

You are a child of the Most High God. God has breathed His life into you. He planted seeds of greatness in you. Augustine said “God loves each of us as if there were only one of us”. He loves you as if you were the only person on earth. He sent His beloved son to come die for another of His son; you. If you are the only sinner alive, God would still send His beloved son to come die for you. That is how much He loves you. That is how important you are to Him.

This is who you are.

[] Do you know YOU have UNLIMITED POTENTIAL?

You were born with potential. You were born with goodness and trust. You were born with ideals and dreams. You were born with greatness. You were born with wings. You are not meant for crawling, so don’t. You have wings. Learn to use them and fly”. – Rumi

Dr. Myles Munroe of blessed memory in his best-selling book “Understanding Your Potential” defines potential as: “…All you can be but have not yet become…all you can do but have not yet done…how far you can reach but have not yet reached…what you can accomplish but have not yet accomplished. Potential is unexposed ability and latent power.”

You must understand that every human being is born with unlimited potential. We all have the gift of unlimited potential. There is a vast pool of untapped ability in each one of us. The only question is – are you willing to seek it out and bring it to fruition?

If God made you in his own image, then you must be very much like God in a lot of ways. Then to say that you are limited in your potential or that you don’t have much ability to excel would be to insult God’s intelligence and ability. You have everything you need to fulfill your God-given destiny. God has already put in the talents, the creativity, the ability, the discipline, the wisdom and the determination. It is all in you. You are full of potential. You have to do your part and start tapping into it. You have to make better use of the gifts and talents that God has given you.

Neurologists have discovered that the average person uses less than 10 percent of his or her mind. That means more than 90 percent of the mind’s capability lies dormant. It never gets tapped into. You could live a million years and you still wouldn’t be able to exhaust your potential. There would always be something new for you to do that no one else has done. There would always be room for growth and exploration. That is how powerful you are. Lou Holtz said “I can’t believe that God put us on this earth just to be ordinary”. You are not ordinary. Believe that.

[] Do you know YOU are UNIQUE?

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well”. – Psalm 139:14

The account of creation in genesis tells us that the whole world was created by God. Everything in it was spoken into creation by Him in just five days. But, when it was time for God to make you, He took His time. God almighty created you in nine months. From the first day of your life He began his creative work in you.

For the next nine months He worked daily right inside your mother’s womb. He was working just to make you perfect and unique. David understood this that’s why he said in Psalm 139:13 “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’swomb”.Which also means God was thinking about you before you were even born. When God was through with His work on making you perfect and unique; just before your beautiful mother gave birth to you, God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very goodGen 1:31 (KJV).

So think what a remarkable and miraculous thing it is to be you, God made you Himself. You are a product of God’s consistent, conscious and careful handiwork of nine months nonstop. Of all the people who have come and gone on the earth, since the beginning of time, not one of them is like you! No one who has ever lived or is to come has had your combination of abilities, talents, appearance, friends, acquaintances, burdens, sorrows and opportunities.

No one’s hair grows exactly the way yours does. No one’s finger prints are like yours. No one has the same combination of secrets, jokes and family expressions that you know. The few people who laugh at all the same things you do don’t sneeze the way you do. No one prays about exactly the same concerns as you do. No one is loved by the same combination of people that love you. No one can reach out to others in the same way that you can. No one can speak your words. No one can convey your meanings. No one can comfort with your kind of comfort. No one can bring your kind of understanding to another person. No one can be cheerful and lighthearted and joyous in your way. No one can smile your smile. No one else can bring the whole unique impact of you to another human being.

God needs you because your purpose is unique. He has designed you specifically to meet his requirements. Enjoy that uniqueness. You do not have to pretend in order to seem more like someone else. You weren’t meant to be like someone else. You do not have to lie to conceal the parts of you that are not like what you see in anyone else. You were meant to be different. Nowhere ever in all of history will the same things be going on in anyone’s mind, soul and spirit as are going on in yours right now.

Treasure your uniqueness. Let it inform, nudge and inspire you. It is one reason why you should feel a sense of destiny and value. God designed you as you are for a purpose. You are not ordinary. Quit being negative and critical towards yourself and begin to enjoy the unique creation of God. YOU ARE UNIQUE!

You have the DNA of Almighty God”. – Joel Osteen

You come from a bloodline of champions. This might sound strange to you but don’t worry. Let me break it down for you. The Collins English Dictionary defines bloodline as all the members of a family group over generations, especially regarding characteristics common to that group. Put in order words, it is the descendants of one individual. It is also the link between a person and his or her ancestors.

There are two kinds of bloodline – the natural bloodline and the spiritual bloodline. Natural bloodline is the natural descendants of an individual. This is the natural bloodline flowing from our earthly parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, ancestors and other family members in our family tree. Some common trait, characteristics, physical features etc. have been passed down from our ancestors to us. These traits are in our bloodline.

Spiritual bloodline is the spiritual descendants of an individual. These are the traits, spiritual features and characteristics that you have in common with God in heaven as a Christian. Galatians 3:26 says *So in Christ Jesus you are all children of Godthrough faith*.

Once you give your life to Christ, you become His child and a brother to Jesus. The Bible says *To those who believe has He given the right to be called His sonsand daughters*. No wonder in Matthew 28:10 “Jesus told a woman not to be afraid, andthat she should go and tell his brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see Him”. It is clear that Jesus was not the natural brothers to his disciples but was and is still a brother to them and us through their and our faith in God.

When you give your life to God and have faith in Christ, you automatically become a child of God and a Brother to Son Jesus. Well, you might say that Jesus was alive at that time and could call his disciples brothers because of love and closeness. But, if you are a Christian, then you are a disciple of Jesus. What other closeness are you talking about when He (Jesus) is living in you? What other love can be stronger than that of a man who lay down His own life just for the sake of your iniquity. I tell you, if you had been the only sinner alive at that time, Jesus still would have died for you. That’s the kind of love He has for his brother – You.

You see, God is our spiritual father and Jesus our spiritual elder brother. You come from the bloodline of God. You have the DNA of Almighty God. You contain some part of God. You come from a long line of champions. You are extremely valuable. You have been destined to live in victory, destined to overcome, and destined to leave your mark on this generation.

You come from a long line of champions” – Alexander BusyBrain

Let me show you some of the things that are contained in your spiritual bloodline. Consider this: Your Heavenly Father spoke the galaxies into existence and gave you the breath of Life. Your elder brother Jesus defeated our one number enemy the devil and also defeated death by His resurrection. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is inside you. There is nothing in your life that you can’t overcome.

Think about some of your spiritual ancestors: Moses parted the Red Sea. He set the Israelites free. Sure great faith and courage is in your bloodline. David, a shepherd boy, defeated Goliath with only a stone. As a king, he fought sixty-six battles and lost none. That is courage in your bloodline.

Solomon was the wisest and richest king of Israel. Such wisdom and riches is in your bloodline. Samson toppled a building. He also killed a lion with his bare hands. There is supernatural strength in your bloodline. Daniel spent an entire night in a lion’s den and was not harmed. Divine protection flows through your bloodline.

Nehemiah rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem when all the odds were against him. Determination and persistence pulsate through your bloodline. Queen Esther put her life on the line to save God’s people. Sacrifice and heroism are in your bloodline.

Do you now understand? You come from a bloodline of champions. You are not ordinary. God brought you out from His best. God gave His very best for you, His only Son. The life of God is in you. It does not matter what your present condition looks like; inside of you flows the blood of a winner. On the inside of you are seeds of greatness.

On the inside of you is champion after champion. You are the seed of the Almighty God. You have His (God’s) royal blood flowing through your veins. This should be your number source of self-belief. You have got to believe in yourself and believe that you have something to offer this world that nobody else has. I don’t know about your natural bloodline. You might have come from a natural bloodline of losers, a natural bloodline of failures but it does not matter if you are in Christ.

As you know, the invisible controls the visible. *It is the invisible roots of a tree that holds the visible tree._ The spiritual controls the physical. So also does your spiritual bloodline control you natural bloodline. You may have to overcome some negative elements in your family’s natural bloodline, but always remember your spiritual bloodline is more powerful than your natural bloodline. Understand your value and shake off inferiority or insecurity. [[*The champion is in you; it is in your blood.]_]

“I believe that every person is born with talent.” – Maya Angelou

Talents are natural abilities, special endowments and God’s gifts to us. Talent is God-given skills a person easily performs without formal training. A person regardless of his belief in God is given a natural talent as a result of a combination of genetics (some have ability in music, art or mathematics) and surroundings (growing up in a musical family will aid one in developing a talent for music), or because God desired to endow all of us with certain talents.

When God created man and woman, He designed them to fulfill a certain function and gave them certain qualities and characteristics that enabled them to perform His intended purpose. These abilities (talents) are yours before birth. They do not come to you when you receive Jesus as your Lord and personal savior. These abilities are your natural talent. They dominate about 70% of you. When you ignore it, here is what it says “Can’t breathe! You are choking me”.

When talent is discussed, most people think about music, sports or movie stars. Why? Because this is what society celebrates? People find it hard to label certain things as a talent. Anything in which you are naturally above average is a talent. Thus, your natural abilities to socialize with people or to seek solitude, to think with your mind or to do things with your hands, to communicate with words or to express yourself through the various art forms, to come up with the ideas or to put them into action, to lead or to follow, to inspire or to manage, to calculate or to demonstrate, to be good at counseling people, helping people, making others laugh and happy.

Do you find it convenient bearing the burden of others; do you have the patience to listen to others while they unbar their heart and burden? Do you find it easy to pray for others and they are healed? Do you work with tools and you find it adventurous and pleasurable? Do you find it easy to organized people, events?

The list is endless. These are all talents given freely to us by God. They are all part of your makeup and your personality from the time God chose to make you and designed you in a particular way. They relate to your purpose, which is a natural, innate, intimate part of who you are. You are designed for your purpose, without accomplishing that purpose you will not be happy and you need to discover your talents to be able to accomplish that purpose.

If your answer to the question above is no or I don’t know. Am not really surprise, but then again, is that not why you are reading this book? Read on and am sure your answer will be different at the end of the book. Just make sure you get to the end, apply the principles and answer the questions.

[] Who said YOU are not MULTI-TALENTED?

One talent is too small for God to give to us”. – Alexander BusyBrain

People say some people are multi-talented and others are single-talented. But I personally don’t agree with them. We are all multi-talented, the problem is some people just discover only one of theirs and develop just that one, and get to think they have only one. One talent is too small for God to give to us.

David in the bible was multi-talented. He was a great king, one of the best that Israel ever had. In 1 Samuel 16:18 one of the attendants of King Saul called him a good musician (he must have been the best musician at that to be able to be chosen to attend to the king), a brave soldier (As a king he fought sixty-six battles and lost none), an able speaker and he was also a great shepherd.

Apostle Paul was also multi-talented. Paul or Saul as he was known even before he met Christ on the road to Damascus was a multi-talented person. Variety of talents was evident in his life.

Paul was an organizer. He both organized the systematic persecution of the church in Jerusalem and received letters of introduction from the Jewish high Priest that permitted him to persecute the followers of Jesus in Damascus (Arts 8:3, 9:1). He was a leader, as was evident in his role in the stoning of Stephen in (Acts 7:58, 8:1). Paul was a skilled tentmaker who liked to work with his hands. (Acts 18:3) Paul was a communicator. By speaking and by writing, Paul declared what he believed. Much of New Testament is the result of his communication skills.

Since these two great men of God above and countless others I did not mention are multi-talented, what makes you think you are not?

[] What is TALENT made of?

Sometimes we fight who we are, struggling against ourselves and our natures. But we must learn to accept who we are and appreciate who we become. We must love ourselves for what and who we are, and believe in our talents”. – Harley King

You must be wondering; what is talent made of, what are the characteristics of talent, what are those properties of talent that distinguishes it from skill, and how can you differentiate it from a skill? Hey! Wonder no more, you are not Alice neither are you in wonderland because below I have outlined and explained what talent is made of.

[] Talent is INHERENT

Inherent means being a part of something. It means dormant ability lying on the inside. The point here is that talent is in you. Talent is naturally a part of you from birth. You are not talented because you are a Christian, a Muslim, no matter your religion. God gave all of us talents even before birth. You don’t have to learn it from school, church or from parents. Simply put; your talent is in you and God gave it to you even before you were born.

It is in you; just like peak puts it. It is waiting to be manifested. It is waiting for you to unleash it. Not just you, others are waiting for that talent on the inside of you. Discover it and let it flow. If you have not discovered you own talent, just follow me to the proceeding chapters where I am going to be dropping all the tips that will help you discover that talent of yours.

[] Talent is INDIVIDUAL

Individual here means different or unique. Each person is an individual, with unique and special characteristics that makes him or her different from all other people. Each of us has different ideas, tastes, desires, hopes, dreams and expectations. Each person has had different experiences and developed different ways of seeing and dealing with the world around us.

You were made unique by God; no one has your finger-print, your personality or your particular combination of natural skills and talents. So your talent is unique also. If your talent is doing music for example, there is no way you can sing exactly like another musician; there must be a touch of difference in your own music. Yes, just as how your personality and character is different from others that is how your talents are. No one has your talent and for you and your talent there is no substitution.

Interdependent means reliance on one another. Our talent is dependent on the talents of other people. Your talents are connected to that of others in some way. So many lives and talents are connected to you discovering yours. For you to succeed with your talent, you need the talents of other people. For example as a public speaker you need the listening abilities of other people to succeed. As an actor you need the talent of a producer, director, make-up artist, a musician etc for the movie to be successful.

God gave us our unique talents to keep the world in balance. Imagine if all of us were musicians, who will listen to our music? If we were all authors, who will read the books written? If all of us were teachers, who will be the student that will sit in class and listen? So you see the world needs you and your talents. You also need the talents of other people in other to achieve your goals and fulfill your purpose in life. You are a necessary part of the world’s population and a vital link in this generation. We need your talents and you need ours.

[] Talent is PERMANENT

Permanent means lasting for an indefinite time or without end and God has given our talent this ability of permanence. Our talents have been put into us by our Manufacturer, our Creator, and Almighty God. Whether we use it or not, does not diminish it. The event of our past does not even reduce it. How somebody has treated you or what he or she said about you does not change it. Maybe you have been through some disappointments, or have had some unfair things happen in life.

None of that affects your talents. Nothing can remove it, nothing can kill it and nothing can change it; not weather, health, or even food can. It (Talent) has been put in you permanently by the creator of the universe. The manufacturer’s manual says that “The gifts, calling and talents of God are without repentance.”

The word repentance has been abused and misunderstood by contemporary Christians. To repent simply means “To change your mind”. Therefore, repentance is the act of changing your mind. The creator is telling us here that his gifts are without repentance. *This means God has no plans of changing His mind to take or withdraw it from you._][*Eccl 3:14] (AMP) says: [_Whatever God does (or gives you) endures forever. (Emphasis mine)

Please note that your inherent talent could be dormant but that does not mean it is not there or that it has been taken away. It means the talent is asleep and you need to wake it up. The problem is that most people don’t discover their talents because they don’t know how and where to find their talents, so they say I don’t think I have a talent, am not talented etc. That’s a lie that the devil is using to deceive them and the world. Am telling you right now that you have a unique talent deep down of you, it is permanent, it is waiting to be discovered by you and I will be showing you how to do just that in the proceeding chapters.

[] Talent is UNIVERSAL

Universal means common to all society, people and being world-wide. Talent is universal in the sense that we all have talents though unique in their different ways. Yes, everyone on the surface of this planet earth is talented. God did not create any person without putting something extremely valuable on the inside. Talent is universal because the man in Canada is talented. The young lady in Australia is talented. The young man in Nigeria is talented. Talent is universal. It is everywhere. It is not meant for some set of persons but for everybody irrespective of whom you are, the colour of your skin or where you come from.

When God made man, He gave him the breath of life that I said in the beginning of this book contains our talent. So, unless you were thrown down to earth from another planet like Clark Kent in Small Ville; if not then my friend you are talented. No matter how your life started or how bad it has been, you are not a mistake or an error. God has a purpose for you when He planted you in your mother’s womb. He would not have allowed you to be born if you were not included in His universal plan and purpose. Before I formed you inthe womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart (for a purpose).Jeremiah 1:5. (Emphasis mine)

You are necessary and your talent is essential for you to accomplish God’s purpose for your life. You are talented.

[] TALENT and SKILL are not the SAME

Talent you have naturally, skill is only developed by hours and hours and hours of beating on your craft” – Will Smith

These words are mostly used interchangeably but you should know that there is a big difference between talent and skill. Talent is that innate ability you were born with and it comes easily to you while skill is something that you learnt and practiced for. E.g. a talented singer would naturally flow, while one that is not talented or gifted will practice hard to even make any flow if at all. Talent is something we are born with. It is written in our genetic code.

A skill is something we learn overtime from practice and other means. Talent is usually an innate ability to do something while skill is learned ability to do something. Talent is the natural aspect that needs a little nudge to realize while skill requires investment of a lot of time. Skill is something you can loose if you don’t practice but talent stays with you forever.

[] Why have some people not DISCOVERED their TALENTS?

What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered”. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

With all the great benefits above of discovering your talent, some people have not even discovered talk more about developing their talents. And the reasons why it is so, is what we will talking about below.

Some people have not yet discovered their talents because they feel or perhaps think it is useless. After all they will not be using it to work or earn a living, so why will it be important to spend time trying to discover it. Mum, Dad and the society has told us to go school, read medicine and become a doctor, read law and become a lawyer or any other good course and you will get a good job immediately after graduation, become rich and successful. This seems to be enough reason not to discover your talents but this is not enough.

What about those that have become famous and quite rich just by using their talents. Mr. Bean who has once won the award for the funniest man in the world read Electrical Engineering to masters’ level in the university. You will agree with me that if he was practicing or working as an engineer, he will not be this famous.

I was amazed when I discovered from an article I read that Don Jazzy whose birth name is Michael Collins Ajereh studied Business Management at Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma in Edo state, Nigeria but today he is one of the best producers and musician in Nigeria Africa at large. He has also won for himself and his music label some national awards. He discovered that his talent was music at the age of four and went ahead to pursue it and it made him what he is today.

All I have been trying to tell you with is that your talent is very important. David’s musical talent took him from the bush to the palace. Just discover and develop your talent, then find where it is used or needed and apply it. Success will be yours for sure.

One of America’s most leading authorities on the development of human potential and personal effectiveness Brian Tracy said “Decide upon your major definite talent in life and then organize all your activities or life around it.

Most people don’t have a problem discovering theirs. When they do discover it, they begin to have this feeling that it is not good enough and that it won’t get them anywhere near success. They start belittling the talent saying things like “why will drawing be my talent, why is it not music, drawing will not fetch me enough money and fame like music, so they don’t bother developing it. They start comparing theirs with that of others. They forget that when you start comparing yourself with others, you are belittling yourself. You are in other words saying God you did not do a good job with you.

Peter my friend was one of these people I chatted with when he came to visit me. Our topic that day was on talent because this is the only sermon I preach. “Peter what are some of your talents?” I asked curiously. He replied me saying “Bro, I have never given that matter any serious thought before, but you are a talent discovering guru right?” I answered him with some confidence saying “Yes of course”. “You are the right person to help me out then”. And that was exactly what I did with him that very day.

Together we reviewed all the tips on discovering your talent that I have given out in the proceeding chapters of this book. For sure, we did discover some of his talents and teaching was one of them. After the discovery Peter was no longer smiling and curious as he was before we started the journey. He seems to have disappointment written all over his face which I noticed, so I asked him “what’s wrong bro, you seem not to be happy?” He replied me after a long hiss saying “Why will my own talent be teaching”.

Now I was surprised and I made it known to him by asking “What’s wrong with teaching as a talent?” He then replied me saying “Teaching will not make me popular neither will it make me rich; how many rich and popular teachers have you seen; why my talent can’t be singing, he continued, so I can be young, popular and rich like Justin Bieber.” Who told him so, who made it so and who said so? I spent the rest of that evening convincing him that teaching as a talent will take him places and make him whatever he wants to be in life.

The same goes out to everyone out there who has the same mindset or belief. Stop comparing your talent with those of others. Yours is unique and special. It has the power to make you whatever you want to be in life. If only you will discover and develop it to that extent and apply it. All you need have been provided in this great book. Remember there is no competition in destiny. Trying to be someone else is a waste of the person you are.

We must begin to celebrate our differences and uniqueness instead of comparing ourselves to others. *No matter how good a forgery is, it can never be the original._ A fake Monet will always be a fake Monet. William Botcher said [[“Never mind what others do; do better than yourself, beat your own record each and every day and you are a success.”*]_]

Most people have not discovered their talents because of their beliefs. Some say I am not talented, some say there is nothing special about me, while others say it is not needed in creating a life. They say all these things because some of them may have tried the wrong process of discovering their talents or probably they did not use it well or did not think it through. So they give up and end up telling themselves that they are not talented.

If you are one of these people, you have to give up that belief or better still change it now. You are not talentless, in fact no one created by God is. In the beginning of this book I told you how God designed us and breathe into us that talent inside of you right now. You are not worthless, you are not useless, and you are not talentless, no matter who has said it or probably made you believe so. You have special talents that can make you the greatest person or the best in the field you will apply them. You are talented.

[] Don’t know how to go ABOUT it

So many people have not yet discovered their talents because they don’t know how to go about it. They don’t know the right questions to ask themselves and others. Even if they do know the right questions to ask, they don’t know how to apply it to their life. Some have discovered and known theirs but don’t know how to develop it. They don’t know how to perfect it. They don’t know how to earn a living with it. They don’t know how to help others and impact lives with it. If any of the above is your reason for not discovering or developing your talent?

Some of those reasons and excuses above may be the reason why you have not discovered your talents. I want to tell you it is high time you drop them because it is making you miss out on the fun that is going on. It is time to move out from your closet and join the train of talent discovery.

This book is the answer to your problem and your problem was solved the very day you bought this book. In this great book, I have outlined all the tips you need to discover your talent and has also provided the processes you need to go through to harness your talent. How to make it perfect, how to work and earn a living with it, how to help others with it and of course how to make the world a better place with it, have all been provided in this book.

In the next chapter, you will understand why talent is the bomb – the main thing. You will also discover the place of Education as it relates to that talent of yours. You will see how your talents make room for you and many more.

[] Why should I discover my TALENTS?

According to this law [the law of Dharma], you have a unique talent and a unique way of expressing it. There is something that you can do better than anyone else in the whole world—and for every unique talent and unique expression of that talent, there are also unique needs. When these needs are matched with the creative expression of your talent, which is the spark that creates affluence. Expressing your talents to fulfill needs creates unlimited wealth and abundance”. – Deepak Chopra

I can picture you with your hand on your chin, pondering upon these questions; why should I even discover and develop my talents, what good will it do me, how much am I going to earn working with these talents, in an economy like ours, where would discovering and working with my talents get me?

The basic point is that it pays more to work with your talents. Working with your talents gives you a sense of purpose and satisfaction in life. You’ll definitely be happy when you impact and affect lives positively with your talents. That’s the essence of living. I have outlined below some of the benefits of discovering and working with your talents and you will also see reasons why you should not quit till you discover those precious talents of yours.

Have you ever wondered why do so many people today feel unfulfilled in their lives? Merely going to work at some mundane job, trying to earn a living, stuck in a career they don’t even like, return back home from work every day angry and frustrated? The answer is simple: they are not working with their talents. They are not pursuing the dreams and desires God has placed within their hearts. Research shows that the happiest people in the world are those who use their natural talents to the utmost.

John W. Gardner once said“True happiness involves the full use of one’s power and talents”. If you are doing what is not in harmony with your talents, it is always a struggle. You will try, train, practice, and push, and you still can’t get the skill down. But on the other hand, if you do things that are in harmony with your natural talents, life becomes much more enjoyable. It won’t be a struggle or a headache at all but rather a fun fare and it always feels right. When you get home at night, you would feel that you have accomplished something that you helped to make the world a better place. Create a life that feels good on the inside, not one that just looks good on the outside.

In fact, one of the ways of discovering your talent is looking for what makes you happy and brings you joy. If you are looking for happiness in your life, discover, develop and use your talent then you’ll see that happiness comes in a platter of gold.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said“The person born with a talent they are meant to use will find their greatest happiness in using it”. I have not yet seen anything that brings so much joy and happiness for a long time like discovering your talent and using it to impact lives; our purpose here on earth is to add value to the people of this generation and those that follow.

Since the day I discovered my talent, I have been a happy man, it made me stop feeling lonely and bored about life, it gave me direction and something to pursue with my life. Any time I am using my talent, my heart and spirit is filled with joy because I know I am doing what I am made and born to do. Truly discovering your talent brings you joy, satisfaction and happiness.

Creativity is the quality or ability to create or invent something in a unique way and using your talent ignites this creativity in you. One of the ways of discovering your talent is looking for what makes you very creative. Since the day I discovered that I was a born motivational speaker and writer, I have been very creative in these areas, even my friends know you can’t challenge me here. I have floored my Facebook page with so many inspirational articles and quotes, written books and spoken in many conferences to many people in different creative ways.

Haruki Murakami wrote“If you’re young and talented, it’s like you have wings”*.*This is what discovering your talent will do for you, it will make you do much in less time, it will give you something to be a master of, it will unleash your creativity, make you popular and proud of yourself. God wants us to share in His creative power, planning, designing and creating with our talents. Creativity is yours when you discover and use your talents.

Discovering, developing and using your talents will bring you fulfillment. You must accept the fact that you were born for a reason, your birth was not a mistake or an error, you were not born into this world to just come and eat, grow fat, go to school, get married, give birth to children, train them for them to take care of you when you get old, advance up the corporate ladder, plan for your retirement, live off your pension and die of a rare disease….

No, God has a purpose that is bigger than that for your life. When God was done with creating you in your mother’s womb, He shot you like an arrow into this world. He shot the arrow with a purpose. He sent you on a mission. Every child born into the world comes with the palms closed. This is so because God put a message in there and closed them. That is the destiny you came to fulfill. You did not come empty handed. You are here on a special mission, a very unique one at that.

It is said that there are over seven billion people in the world today. Have you not wondered why you were still born not minding the population? *It is because there is something the whole others can never do like the way you will._ There is something you were born to do that no one else can do with your particular expertise. Your existence is evidence that this generation needs something that your life contains. [[*This assignment is God’s purpose for your life and your purpose is that dream, vision, deep desire or life-long idea that you hunger to accomplish.]_]

Whatever you were born to do, whatever God purposed for your life, you are equipped with all the ability, talents, gifts, capacities and potential you need to fulfill it. This God’s given purpose can only be accomplished with your talents and until that purpose is discovered and fulfilled, existence has no meaning. Purpose is the source of fulfillment. Fulfilling purpose should be the primary goal of every man. On completion of your assignment can you find true success, for the fulfillment of purpose is God’s measure of success.

Using your talents to the utmost will fulfill God’s purpose for your life which will result into a life filled with internal peace, blessings from God, satisfaction and a happy life. Using talents fulfills God’s purpose. Talent is given by God; our gift to him is fulfilling it.

Yes, discovering and using your talents to work as a full or part time job will bring you wealth. Using and working with your talents will move you from your current financial level to the next one. 1 Samuel 16:14-23 tells a story of Saul who was tormented by an evil spirit because the Lord’s spirit left him. His servants said to him “We know that an evil spirit sent by God is tormenting you. So give us the order, sir, and we will look for a man who knows how to play the harp.

Then when the evil spirit comes on you, the man can play his harp, and you will be alright again”. Saul ordered them “Find me a man who plays well and bring him to me”. One of his attendants said “Jesse, of the town of Bethlehem, has a son who is a good musician. He is also a brave and handsome man, a good soldier, and also an able speaker. The Lord is with him”. So Saul sent messengers to Jesse to say “Send me your son David, the one who takes care of the sheep”. That was it, David left the bush where he was taking care of sheep and went to the palace, from where later He became king.

David’s musical talent took him to the palace, brought him fame, gave him wealth and gave him the crown. The same is true for you, your talents will take you places, bring you fame and give you wealth. For David to have been chosen in the whole of Israel to sing for King Saul, that shows that he was the best and for him to have been the best, it shows that he developed his musical talent till he became the best.

The same is also true for you, before your talent will take you places and bring you wealth; you have to develop it until you become the oga at the top of your game. Most rich and wealthy people in the world today are men and women who discovered their talents and build their lives around their talents, using it to make money and impact the world with it positively. Dr. Ben Carson is a great example among many others. Your talent surely will bring you wealth if you discover and use it.

I will like to begin this with the words of the great man of God; Joel Osteen “I believe that God has put gifts, talents and abilities on the inside of every one of us. When you develop that and you believe in yourself and you believe that you’re a person of Influence and a person of purpose, I believe you can rise up out of any situation”. The dictionary defines an opportunity as a chance for advancement, progress or profit.

There are two ways you can get opportunities – by creating them yourself with your talents and gifts, and by using the ones created by others. It is easy getting opportunities with your talents, be it job opportunities or any other kind of opportunity. When I discovered my talents, getting opportunities to speak and use them was not a problem at all.

I discovered it’s even harder to discover your talents than to get opportunities to showcase and use them. Proverbs 18:16 says “A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before greatmen”. Put in other words a man’s talent will create opportunities for him that will take him to great heights. I am convinced that if you discover and develop your talents, no matter where you are, you won’t have any problem getting a job or getting happy. You won’t have any problem finding friends or opportunities.

In fact, if you focus on your talents and do what you are gifted to do, you will probably have to turn down some opportunities because they will be too many. Sure!

In the words of Floyd Mayweather“Everybody is blessed with a certain talent, you have to know what your talent is… you have to maximize it and push it to its limit”.

Discovering and developing your talent will also bring you;

Confidence is the quality of trusting oneself. Put in another word, it is self-assurance. Discovering, developing and working with your talents gives you confidence. It assures you that you are doing the right thing. It assures you that your work is not in vain. It assures you of greatness and success. When you discover and develop your talent, you can be confident and persuaded that you will succeed. This confidence will also inspire the trust of others. Talent surely will bring you confidence.

Perseverance has been defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as the quality that allows someone to continue trying to do something even though it is difficult. In other words it is the ability to try to do or continue doing something in a determined way, despite having problems.

Talent empowers perseverance. Once you discover that you have a particular talent and decide to use it for something meaningful in life, there is nothing that can stop you. Using your talent gives you passion and enthusiasm which fuels perseverance. Talent when discovered and developed can motivate us to keep on going no matter what, no matter the troubles, no matter the mistakes and no matter the challenges. Talent gives us the enthusiasm and perseverance to overcome our everyday disappointments and trials that would hinder our progress toward the desired end. If you are convinced that you are working with your talent then perseverance is yours for free.

Focus is concentration of one’s attention on something without looking sideways at distractions. Discovering your talent gives you focus. It helps you set goals and follow them to the end flexibly. For example, if you discover that your talent is singing; you automatically start singing to yourself every time, you start going for voice training to make your voice better, you join singing groups like church choirs, school choir etc.

Discovering your talent gave you a goal of becoming a musician and helped you focus on just doing that. In essence, talent protects you from being distracted by other people’s assignments, fun activities, unrelated works, wrong and negative company. Talent keeps you focused.

If you recognize your talents, use them appropriately, and choose a field that uses those talents, you will rise to the top of your field rapidly” – Ben Carson

We all have something we can do better than ten thousand people in this world and that is our talent. There is something you can do better than the average person and you can do it better than average. It is your talent. Your talent will make you excel where even education will not. Consider these:

p<>{color:#000;}. Sixty five percent of all U.S senators came from the button half of their school classes.

p<>{color:#000;}. Seventy five percent of U.S presidents were in the lower-half club in school.

p<>{color:#000;}. More than fifty percent of all C.E.Os of fortune 500 companies had C or C average in university.

p<>{color:#000;}. More than fifty percent of millionaire entrepreneurs never finished college.

Clearly from the facts above you will agree with me that talent and passion made mostof these men great, successful and rich not education. Imagine if Mikel Obi (of Chelsea) was to be an accountant, imagine Chris Brown on a wig in a law court defending someone, 2face was to be working in a bank etc, you will agree with me that they will not be where they are today. Talent made these men great and successful where education would not have made them. Be who you were created to be and you will set the world on fire.

[] Working with your GOD’S GIVEN TALENT

Commit yourself to lifelong learning. The most valuable asset you will ever have is your mind and what you put into it….especially in the area of your talent”. – Brian Tracy

Think about using both education and your God given talent. Think about discovering your talent now and going to the university to read a course that is related to your talent. Even if you are in the university now, think about developing your talent now and later using it to work and impact lives, then the sky will be your stepping stone.

If you are out of the university, high school or college, think about finding where your talent is needed and work there, I assure you getting to the top will be easy and smooth.

Your talent gives you an edge in life. A career is where most people will end up using their developed talent. Can you imagine graduating with a degree in a course that engages your talent? You would be passionate and fully engaged at work because you’d love what you do. Why get a job just to earn a paycheck when you go to work to make a difference? When you are not in your talent zone, you are most likely not passionate about your job.

The people who grow fastest and get the most done at work are those who love what they do and are good at what they do. This is their talent zone. If you know what your natural talents are, you can focus on developing them into strength. Any of you can devote your life to work that is congruent or in harmony with your natural talents and strengths.

Most likely, this will be a much better use of your time and generally will make you happier, more effective and more successful. In case you don’t know what your God given talent is, don’t worry that is what this book is about. Helping you discover and develop those talents of yours.

[] Your TALENTS make ROOM for YOU

Your God given talents will get you further than any gift man can give you. Use your talent. Believe in yourself. Be unstoppable. – Alexander BusyBrain

Education is a life process of learning. It is quite different from schooling. The creator’s manual says in Proverbs 18:16 that “A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings himbefore great men”. This scripture is so significant. It never said that your education will give you a place (room) in this earth. It boldly said your gifts and talents will.

Wonder why some people joke with what is going to enlist them for greatness and give them a place of influence on earth. A place where you can exercise your God-given talent and provide leadership for others. An area where you are gifted and talented and you are greatly needed. Now, this is it. Education was meant to beautify the room that your talent will make for you. It is important to note that education is what fine tunes and refines you in tune with your talents.

It is a tragedy when someone acquires education outside his/her area of gifting. Hope comes when such person re-traces his or her bearing to discover and develop his talent. Acquiring Education outside your talent only translates to a waste of time. Believe me; you will never get fulfilled because you are not in the right environment.

Everyone was gifted in an area. We are expected to function in that area/environment of our talent. There will our fulfillment be made manifest and off course, you will be providing leadership to others. Life becomes sweet when you discover your talents so early and acquire education in that area.

Our parents deserve our honor and respect for giving us life itself. Beyond this they almost always made countless sacrifices as they cared for and nurtured us through our infancy and childhood, provided us with the necessities of life, and nursed us through physical illnesses and the emotional stresses of growing up”. – Ezra Taft

BensonBob Keeshan said “Parents are the ultimate role models for children. All of their word, movement and action have effect on their children. No other person or outside force has a greaterinfluence on a child than the parent”*.* Parenting plays a vital role in the lives of everyone. We all have or had parents in one time or the other.

In discovering talents early, parentshave a role to play. They are there to train up and guide a child in the way he should go.This means there is a way the child should go, not the way the parents wants the child togo.A lot of parents never settle down to discover the gift of their children. They are so busywith other things forgetting their primary function or assignment. They end up forcing andcompelling their children to study medicine, law etc. funny enough, some parentsactually wished they studied a particular course which they admired but just becausethey were not able to study it.

They believe it is now the responsibility of their children tostudy their dream course. This should not be so. The destiny of parents and their children differ. These parents were just a means or a vehicle for bringing the child to this world. Everyone has got to discover their talent and impact the world with it. Africa is really guilty of this and it is time we stop it.

[]PART 2

“Artistic talent is a gift from God and whoever discovers it in himself has certain obligation: to know that he cannot waste this talent, but must develop it.”- Pope John Paul II.

Talent is a natural ability or set of abilities that we are born with. We don’t acquire talent, we are born with them. We only need to harness it into greatness. And like gold, diamond and other precious mineral in the ground, we must discover our talents. And just like it takes some work and time to discover these precious minerals, we have to put some work into the Talent Discovery process. Emilie Zola wrote“The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work”.

Right from the beginning of this book I have been explaining to you that you are talented. I have been telling you that there are talents, gifts and abilities in every man and woman in this very world and that God has given us these gifts right from birth; but you could waste a great deal of your life struggling to succeed with things that are not in harmony with your natural talents and strengths.

Apostle Paul urged young Timothy to “stir up the gift within him”. Similarly you need to discover and stir up your own gifts and talents. Maybe these gifts and talents are buried beneath depression and discouragement, negative voices of people telling you that you are worthless and that you are not gifted; beneath weaknesses and beneath fear and failures.

In part two of this book I have provided you with all the great principles that will help you discover and stir up your talents. Just read them carefully and make sure you understand them and apply them to your life. Walt Disney wrote“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing”. So, let’s quit talking and explaining and move directly into discovering those great talents of yours.

[] You need to PRAY ABOUT IT

If you can’t pray, you will become a prey”. – Prophet Kingsley Ibe

Prayer is a means of contact with God. Prayer is speaking, thinking or feeling with the belief that there is somebody who hears, cares and will respond. “To pray is to let go and let God take over” (Phil. 4:6-7). Prayer is a two way thing. It’s a communication process between you and the creator. It’s not about speaking and speaking all day. There is a place of listening so that your creator will respond, reply or speak to you in return. Most of us just talk during prayer time and don’t wait to listen for God to respond in our spirit.

The most important principle to discovering your talents is to go back to your creator, you originator and your source in prayers. The truth is; you cannot discover your talents outside your creator. The creator formed you in your mother’s womb. He knew you before you were born.

He already planned your life and all that you are required to do on earth. He gave you tools, equipment, facilities and resources (which are your gifts) to carry out your life assignment and navigate the earth successfully. You have to go to Him because He designed you, He molded you, and He created you according to His will and purpose.

Wesley L. Duewel said“God waits for you to communicate with Him. You have instant, direct access to God. God loves mankind so much, and in a very special sense His children, that He has made Himself available to you at all times”. So if you have not discovered that great talent of yours, you sure can ask God in prayers to reveal it to you. God is never more than a prayer away from us. Prayer may not change all things for you but it sure changes you for all things.

Martin Luther knew the importance of prayers that’s why he said this “I have so much to do today that I shall spend the first three hours in prayers”*.* Don’t think that only Christians or people without sins are the ones that pray and receive answers because it is not true. Don’t think that asking God to reveal your talent to you is something too small, please it is not, after all everything is small before God.

Matthew 7:7-8: says

*7._ [[*Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:]_]

8. for every one that askethreceiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. (KJV)

Jesus is telling you here to ask Him anything and it shall be given unto you, seek Him and you shall find Him and knock on the door of heaven and it shall be open unto you. What a privilege!!

Mark 11:24-26 says

24. Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

25. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

26. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. (KJV)

Here Jesus is telling you that whenever you ask Him of anything you should believe that you have received it and it shall be yours. He is also telling you to forgive all the people that have offended you before you go down on your knees to pray, so your father in heaven will forgive you and answer your prayers. I love the way the message bible explains it. It says:

Mark 11:24

That’s why I urge you to pray for absolutely everything, ranging from small to large. Include everything as you embrace this God-life, and you’ll get God’s everything. (MSG)

Lastly, John 14:14 says“If ye shall askany thing in my name, I will do it”. (KJV)

Jesus is telling you to ask His father anything in His name and His father will surely do it. Remember He said in His name not through His name, not by His name, not inside His name and definitely not outside His name.

Your prayers should began and end with in the Name of Jesus. So whenever you want to ask God for anything, make sure you have forgiven everyone that has offended you, believe that you have received it, ask in the Name of Jesus and it is yours forever. When you read God’s word, God talks to you. When you pray you talk to God. The devil smiles when we make plans. He laughs when we get too busy but he trembles when we pray.

Philippians 4:6 says “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer andsupplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God”. (KJV)

[* "We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls." - *] Mother Teresa

Quiet time is a point during each day when you remove yourself from the busyness of school-work, work, and the ever increasing demands of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, BBM and so on to spend time with yourself and God, reading God’s word, praying and listening to what God has to say to you. Quiet time is a sacred, special date with God in which you study His word, worship Him, thank Him, pour out your heart to Him, and just sit down quietly, allowing Him to speak to your heart.

Quiet times are essentially times of fellowship with God and for personal development. Adrian Rogers said“The quiet time we spend with God and ourselves in the morning are the keys that unlock the doors of heaven for us that day”. Any athlete knows that it is the beginning that ensures a good finish.

The time you spend alone with God will transform your character and increase your devotion, wisdom and talent. In moments alone with God, He will give you a vision of where you need to go, what you need to do, how you can impact lives, He will make you a success and of course, He will reveal that great talent of yours to you. You just need to be free of distractions and interruptions.

There are few things you should consider for this time.

p<>{color:#000;}. First, be physically alert. Find a time when the cobwebs are out of your mind and you can think clearly.

p<>{color:#000;}. Secondly, be mentally aware. Be focused and know God is there with you.

p<>{color:#000;}. Third, be morally pure; make sure your conscience is clear. Make sure you are not worried.

p<>{color:#000;}. Forth, find a quiet place, a place free from noise. Where you can think and meditate.

We have to get alone with God and listen. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God”.To get a vision from God, turn off the television. Get quiet. Let God talk to you. Paul spent three years in the desert listening to God before he began his ministry. That was his seminary education. He said: “God, what is the overarching, all-consuming passion of my life? What will I do until I die?” Once he discovered his dream, he lived an extraordinary life.

Give yourself some time and space to get away from the expectations, the conversations, the noise, the media, and the pressure. Take some time each day to go for a long walk and think. Plant yourself on a park bench and look. Take a long, thoughtful road trip. Whatever you do, move away from anything that distracts you from contemplating your life and where you want it to go. In solitude, you should feel independent and self-sufficient, not lonely, needy or afraid.

[] Can YOU set aside 20 – 30minutes EACH DAY?

The starting point of discovering, who you are, your gifts, your talents, your dreams, isbeing comfortable with yourself. Spend time alone. Write in a journal. Take long walks inthe woods”. – Robin S. Sharma

Each day, set aside 20-30minutes of quiet time to contemplate a project or idea you are working on and for now discovering your talent should be one of them. Give yourself space and time to do this, if you get distracted easily write a note.

Go to a quiet place or maybe your room. Turn off the television, computer, put off your phone, tab, iPod and just think. Think about new ideas, think of what you love, think of what comes to you easily, think of your childhood dreams etc. The idea here is to let your mind wander about anything and I have come to understand that our best ideas pop into our heads when we are in quiet places thinking about nothing in particular. Your bathroom and toilet are great places to let your mind wander on random thoughts in the morning.

Every person needs time alone, whether they’re introverted or extroverted, single or in a relationship, young or old. Solitude is time for rejuvenation and self-talks, for utter peace and for realizing that purposeful “loneliness” is not a bad place to be but rather, a liberating part of your overall existence. If you are a creative person, you may find that alone-time will help stoke your creativity.

While it’s nice to collaborate with other people sometimes, it’s hard to be truly creative when you’re always surrounded by other people. Step back and tap into your creativity. So sit, be quiet and just let you mind wander, you will find wild, wacky and creative ideas that you can later develop or reject but which might just give you a whole new way to look at your world and properly help you discover that hidden talent of yours.

[] When last did YOU SHARPEN your AXE?

If I am given ten hours to cut down a tree, I will spend the eight hours sharpening my cutlass”. – Abraham Lincoln

Once upon a time, a very strong woodcutter asked for a job in a timber merchant and he got it. The pay was really good and so was the work condition. For those reasons, the woodcutter was determined to do his best. His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he supposed to work. The first day, the woodcutter brought 18 trees. “Congratulations,” the boss said. “Go on that way!” Very motivated by the boss words, the woodcutter tried harder the next day, but he could only bring 15 trees.

The third day he tried even harder, but he could only bring 10 trees. Day after day he was bringing less and less trees. “I must be losing my strength”, the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on. “When was the last time you sharpened your axe?” the boss asked. “Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees…”

Our lives are like that. We sometimes get so busy that we don’t take time to sharpen the “axe”. In today’s world, it seems that everyone is busier than ever, but less happy that ever. Why is that? Could it be that we have forgotten how to stay “sharp”? There’s nothing wrong with activity and hard work. But we should not get so busy that we neglect the truly important things in life, like our personal life, taking time to get close to our Creator, giving more time for our family, taking time to read etc. We all need time to relax, to think and meditate, to learn and grow.

If we don’t take the time to sharpen the “axe”, we will become dull and lose our effectiveness.

[] THINK of what YOU LOVE

When you start doing what you love to do, you will never work another day in your life”. – Brian Tracy

The things that bring you the greatest joy are in alignment with your purpose. Once you are clear about what brings you the greatest joy, you will have a major insight into your purpose on earth. The best way to discover a hidden talent is to think about what you love to do and can even do for free or without money. What have you always wanted to try but haven’t yet? What do you see others doing that you wish you were doing? What is that thing that you see yourself doing in your dream? What is that thing that you do that makes people around you happy and thankful?

Think about what you do that makes you burst into a genuinely happy mood. What are the things you are doing that you lose track of time. Think about that which you can talk about for hours. You may not consider them to be gifts or talents; but if you enjoy them that much, chances are there is something there that could lead you to your talents.

What generates passion and zeal in you is a clue to revealing your destiny. What you love is a clue to something you contain. Pay attention to those things outside your day-to-day activities when you feel the happiest, the most joyous, the most fully engaged, the most acknowledged and appreciated, and the most connected to yourself and others. What were you doing those times? What were you experiencing? Those events are indicators of what you contain and what you contain is your talent. Your talent will bring you joy and success. Figure out what you love to do as young as you can, and then organize your life around it figuring out how to make a living at it. Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.

There are many things that will catch my eyes, but there are only a very few that catch my heart. It is those I consider to pursue(Tim Redmond). You should think or be like this man, pursue those things that got your heart. That is: things we have passion for. Pursue your talent or dreams with enthusiasm because nothing significant was ever achieved without enthusiasm. Even Jesus was a passionate man. He died for us because He loved His father and us passionately.

Howard Thurman said“Don’t worry about what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

[] What about WHAT YOU HATE

You hate something because you can do something about it.” – Alexander BusyBrain

The dictionary defines hate as to dislike something or someone intensely or greatly due to envy and other reasons. Just as what you love catches your attention, so it is with what you hate. Hate is said to be the opposite of love. But the truth is, most of the time you hate something because you can do something about it, you hate something because you know the way out of it.

You hate seeing people suffer because you can help them, you hate our corrupt leaders because you can be a better one, you hate the way music is done in your church because you can do better music, you hate the way your teacher or lecturer teaches you because you know how to teach better. You hate those things because it touches you and because it touches you, you will want to do something about it. Anthony D’Angelo said “Realize that if you have time to whine and complain about something then you have time to do something about it”.

In discovering your talents you should also consider the things you hate or things that when you see them it touches your heart e.g. I hate seeing people underutilizing their potentials, I hate seeing people angry and not enjoying their jobs, I hate seeing people not using their talents in making the world a better place for us all and that has given me a clue to my talents and purpose in life.Use your eyes to see the needs, and use your talents to meet them.

[] What is EASY FOR YOU?

There is something you can do easier and better than 10000 people in this world”. – Alexander BusyBrain

A lot of persons are carried away with the big things around them that they overlook what they are good at. They feel it’s too small or rather insignificant enough to be recognized as a talent. They ask: How can little things like being a good listener, a good teacher etc be my talent? If it is not dancing, rapping, playing football, the popular things we know, then it can’t be my talent.

In life, we get carried away with the big things that we trivialize the little things. Someone once said “Maturity is not doing big things but taking note of the small things and being responsible for them”. Begin to look inward and around you, your environment more intensively and carefully to notice the little things you can do for people that you are good at and you have over looked.

If something comes easy to you, chances are you are good at it and it is part of what you contain. So what are those things that come easily to you, what are those things that take you five minutes to do and take your friends and others 30 minutes? What are you better than anyone you know? What are those things that are fun for you and work for others? What do people say you are naturally good at?

That is, what do people tend to give you compliments on without you even expecting it? What are those things that you do and hear things like “men you are so good with this”, “I wish I can be good at this thing like you”, woo, how did you do it because it was just too easy for you” etc. What things do you normally excel in without it seeming to be much effort at all? What things, when you do them, you totally lose track of time, and before you know it, a few hours have gone past without you even realizing it?

Have you ever heard great singers, their performance sounds effortless. Why is that, because they are doing what they are naturally good at. You need to be aware of your natural strength as well and use them to your best advantage and to the benefit of others.

Romans 12:6 say“God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well”*.* You can’t do everything well, but you can do something well. And that thing is your talent. Think of those things that come easily to you. Think of those things that you are naturally good at. To you, it is not a big deal but to others it is incredible.

What are those things that others come to you for to help them out with? For you, it is as easy as breathing and you did it for fun not minding whether you are paid or not. What is that particular thing that you do with effortless ease? You might not even realize you are doing it because of how well you did it.

We all think that the things we are good at are easy, so we tend to discount their value and value the things that we find difficult which other people find easy. But I am here to tell you that things that come easily to you are your talents, so develop them and often the people for whom it is not easy for will pay you to do it. Katharine Whitehorn said “Find out what you like doing best and get someone to pay you for it”.

[] What is your INTEREST and PASSION?

Real success is finding your life work in the work that you love”. – David McCullough

Interest is the feeling of wanting to give your attention to something or of wanting to be involved with and to discover more about something. Your interests are the activities that you enjoy doing and the subjects that you like to spend your time learning about. Passion is gotten from the Latin verb “Pati” which means to suffer.

Passion is a term applied to a very strong feeling about a person or thing. Passion is an intense emotion, compelling feeling, enthusiasm, or desire for something. So think about the subjects and activities you are most comfortable discussing about.

Is there something that someone is doing that trills you? What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail? If you could do one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? What makes you feel like nothing else exist? What activity makes you feel completely in your element? The answers to these questions have a way of leading you to your talent. What topics can you talk to someone else about for hours without getting tired or bored of it?

What kinds of topics do you like researching or finding about more, without being forced to do it? What topic do you think you could write about every day, knowing that there will be no reward? Think about something that you do or perhaps you used to do that brings total peace to you when you do it.

Peace is happiness, happiness is passion and passion leads to talent. Following what make you happy is a wonderful way to figuring out what you were put on earth for. What is your area of interest in a newspaper or magazines, which areas do you go to first in a magazine? Movie reviews, travel, sports, health, religion, kiss and tell, politics?

What kinds of books do you like reading aside your school books? Novels, comics, motivational books, love magazines, romantic novels, quotes etc? Which kind of Television shows and channels do you like watching? MTV base, fashion TV, E entertainment, super sports, African magic, CNN etc?

The newspaper page you love reading, the kind of books you love reading and the channel you love watching has something that relates to your interest and talents. Take your time to describe what you want your life to look like in a day, month or year. By doing this, it brings out how you would like to spend your time and therefore can reveal some ideas of what you truly are passionate about.

There are things you enjoy experiencing; things you enjoy watching, observing, listening to, smelling, and taking in various ways. The key here is to realize that it doesn’t matter what it is. It could be preventing child hunger or it could be painting. There is no scale when it comes to passion. You either feel it or you don’t; none is better than any other.

*When you find something that zaps you out of bed in the morning, cling onto it._ You’ll only bloom from there and they can lead you to your talents. Anthony Robbins is asking you to [[“Live with passion”.*]_]

I can live for two months on a good compliment” – Mark Twain

Compliment is a straight forward expression, one clearly designed for the express purpose of making someone smile and feel better about him or herself. A compliment is an expression of praise, admiration or congratulation said to someone to make him or her feel loved and happy. Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. Making one person smile can change the world – maybe not the whole world, but their world.

It is always helpful to take a moment out of our busy lives to reflect on the compliments we receive from colleagues, friends, family, customers, roommates, course mates etc. You should take time to reflect on compliments like “woo! I love your voice; I think you will make a good musician”, “Men! That’s great, I love your creativity”, “I love your write up, have you ever thought about becoming an author”, “You are a good dancer, why don’t you take your dancing a little further” etc. you should really take your time to reflect on compliments like the ones above and stop thinking that these people are deceiving you.

Other people often recognize what we are good at while we are taking it for granted and we fail to notice it. Notice what people tell you about yourself. Do they notice that you light up when you explain something? Does everybody seem to compliment you on your writing, your physical coordination, your voice, your drawings, your football skills, your mathematics ability, your ideas, your dance steps, your make-up style, your cooking, your swag etc?

Sometimes, it takes outside objectivity to see what we have simply taken for granted. Listen to people that know you. You may not be that aware of the things you do best but people who know you do.

I do receive compliments from friends like “Alexander, you will make a great author” but I never took them serious because I thought they were pulling my legs. When I started considering their compliments, I discovered that I was really a good writer and since then I have written many books including this one you are reading. So next time someone says something good to you or gives you a good compliment, don’t blow it off, follow it up instead and it will just lead you to discovering that talent of yours.

It is very inexpensive to give compliments” – Joyce Mayer

If you are like: but, hey I don’t get compliments” well that means you have not been giving others compliments. When you do or say things that make other people feel good about themselves, they will want to reciprocate and make you feel good about yourself as well. Smile to that police officer on your way back home and see whether he will not smile back at you. Tell that customer you love his cloth and see whether he will not tell you something sweet back. Give that girl a nice compliment and see her responses.

The people that you like most in your life are the ones who make you feel the best about yourself when you are with them. So, if you want to be an important person in the life of that boy, man, woman or girl, give them compliments and make them feel better whenever they are with you. Jackson Brown said“we should complement three people every day”.

People like other people that can make them laugh, people who have positive things to say and not people who are good at throwing negativity around and make sure everyone gets from it. You can become the most loved person in you class, office or home by seeing the good in everyone and making sure you say something about it.

A simple hello could lead to a million things.Truly complimenting people will get you far in life. Remember, everyone loves a compliment. So don’t just receive compliments from people but also give out too. Tell someone they matter.Tell people how great their skill is, how beautiful or handsome they are, how you love their skill and talent etc. Make them feel better about themselves. You might just be making the world a better place. How you make others feel about themselves, says a lot about you.

Let me close this chapter with a story I love so much. I know you’ll enjoy it.

[] How can ONE MAN save NEW YORK?

Complimenting people will get you far in life, but always make sure you compliment nonphysical features.” – Alexander BusyBrain

I was in New York the other day and rode with a friend in a taxi. When we got out, my friend said to the driver, “Thank you for the ride. You did a superb job of driving.” The taxi driver was stunned for a second. Then he said, “Are you a wise guy or something?”

“No, my dear man, and I’m not putting you on. I admire the way you keep cool in heavy traffic.”

“Yeah, thanks” the driver said and drove off.

“What was that all about?” I asked.

“I am trying to bring love back to New York,” he said. “I believe it’s the only thing that can save the city.”

“How can one man save New York?”

“It’s not one man. I believe I have made that taxi driver’s day. Suppose he has 20 fares. He’s going to be nice to those 20 fares because someone was nice to him. Those fares in turn will also be kind to their employees or shopkeepers or waiters or even their own families. Eventually the goodwill could spread to at least 1,000 people. Now that isn’t bad, is it?”

“But you’re depending on that taxi driver to pass your goodwill to others.”

“I’m not depending on it,” my friend said. “I’m aware that the system isn’t foolproof so I might deal with ten different people today. If out of ten I can make three happy, then eventually I can indirectly influence the attitudes of 3,000 more.”

‘It sounds good on paper,” I admitted, “but I’m not sure it works in practice.”

“Nothing is lost if it doesn’t. It didn’t take any of my time to tell that man he was doing a good job. He neither received a larger tip nor a smaller tip. If it fell on deaf ears so what? Tomorrow there will be another taxi driver I can try to make happy.”

“You’re some kind of a nut,” I said.

“That shows how cynical you have become. I have made a study on this. The thing that seems to be lacking, besides money of course, for our postal employees, is that no one tells people who work for the post office what a good job they’re doing.”

“But they’re not doing a good job.” “They’re not doing a good job because they feel no one cares if they do or not. Why shouldn’t someone say a kind word to them?”

We were walking past a structure in the process of being built and passed five workmen eating their lunch. My friend stopped. “That’s a magnificent job you men have done. It must be difficult and dangerous work.”

The workmen eyed my friend suspiciously.

“When will it be finished?”

“June,” a man grunted.

“Ah. That really is impressive. You must all be very proud.”

We walked away. I said to him, “I haven’t seen anyone like you since Man of La Mancha.”

“When those men digest my words, they will feel better for it. Somehow the city will benefit from their happiness.”

“But you can’t do this all alone!” I protested. “You’re just one man.”

“The most important thing is not to get discouraged. Making people in the city become kind again is not an easy job, but if I can enlist other people in my campaign …”

“You just winked at a very plain-looking woman,” I said.

“Yes, I know,” he replied. “And if she’s a schoolteacher, her class will be in for a fantastic day.”

(Gotten from “Chicken Soup for the Soul” by Jack Canfield and Mark Hansen)

So, can one man save New York? I leave you to answer that question.

When you think you can’t… Revisit a previous triumph”. – Jack Canfield

Most people underestimate and under appreciate the number of success they have had in relation to the number of failures they have experienced. They tend not to remember their successes in the past because when you were a child, your parents left you alone when you were playing and getting alone with friends, and they lock you up, shout at you and even abuse you with strong words when you made too much noise, were a nuisance, or got in trouble.

Your father called you “Omekanna ya” (A son like his father) with a broad smile on his face and even gave you a beer hug when you came first in class or got an A in mathematics but asked your mother in a harsh voice “Are you sure this is my son” or even punish you for getting an F in mathematics or God forbid you came last in class. In school, most of your teachers marked the answers you got wrong with an X rather than marking the ones you got right with a check mark. In sports, your coach and mates yelled at you when you missed the goal, drop the ball or did not do what you were supposed to do and also celebrated the goals you got.

Your first love broke your heart and you forgot that finding love in the first place is something to celebrate. There was always more emotional intensity around your errors, mistakes and failure than there was around your successes. And the brain easily remembers events that were accompanied by strong emotions like anger, hunger, hate, failure etc but the sad truth is that we all have many more victories and successes than failures in our lives. It is just that we set the bar too high for what we call success.

Research has shown over and over again that the more you acknowledge your past successes, the more confident you become in taking on and successfully accomplishing new ones. Knowing that you have had successes in the past will give you the self-confidence that you can have more successes in the future.Think about and write down the best accomplishments, achievements and successes you are most proud of even back to childhood. Talking about our problems is our greatest addiction. Break the habit. Talk about your joys.Reflect on them for a while and patterns will emerge that can lead you to finding your talents and it will also motivate you to do more and beat your old records.

Can you remember who you were before the world told you who you should be?” – Alexander BusyBrain

Go down your memory lane and play back your childhood dreams. Reflect on your childhood and remember what activities truly gave you joy and satisfaction. You may remember that you loved to work with your hands on the sand building houses or making cars. You could spend hours cooking with mom in the kitchen.

You were always drawing and painting beautiful things everywhere. You were excited when given the chance to explore your neighborhood. You had the most fun entertaining, singing, dancing or creating your own shows with your family and friends. You were happy when you could spend the day reading every book in sight. Maybe you enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together. You enjoyed gathering younger kids and teaching them. You enjoyed math or any other subject in college.

When Oprah Winfrey was 6, she entertained herself by interviewing crows and corncob dolls on her poor grandma’s farm. She hasn’t stopped interviewing; her audience has just changed slightly. What did you do well as a child? Give this some thought, and ask your family members. Write as many things as you hear and can remember. Do you still do any of these things today?

As a child I remember gathering children that were bigger than me and the ones I was bigger than and my mates to teach them and tell them stories. I can still remember how they paid undivided attention to my stories and teachings, and I also remember it gave me great joy. Today am a graduate of Educational Management and Economics from the great University of Benin and of course am still teaching but different students now.

Figuring out the themes of what activities made you happy when you were young and what skills you used in pursuing those joyful activities can help you uncover the skills and talents that come naturally to you with that you can use to help shape and define your future and better our world.

[] FACE those little FEARS of YOURS

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing that you think you cannot do”. – Eleanor Roosevelt

Fear is to be worried or frightened that something bad might happen or might have happened. In the definition you will discover that “might” was the word used which means something will or will not happen. So why worry about something that is under probability. Fear is natural. Whenever you start a new project, take a new venture, or put yourself out there, there is usually fear. In fact, if you don’t feel afraid the first time you are doing something, then that thing is not big enough and will not bring much into your life.

Unfortunately, most people let fear stop them from taking the necessary steps to achieve their dreams. Successful people, on the other hand, feel the fear along with the rest of us but they don’t let it keep them from doing what they want to do. They understand that fear is something to be acknowledged, experienced, and taking alone for the ride. They have learned to feel the fear and do it anyway. You should always do the same whenever you face any challenge that is fearful – feel the fear and do it anyway. Jack Canfield said“Everything you want is on the other side of fear.”

Fear wants you to run from things that are not after you. Fear can keep you from going where you could have won. So, do like the old saying “Feed you fear and watch your fear starve to death”. Fear is not unusual it is just part of the process. Do not see considerations, fears and roadblocks as stop signs but rather as a normal part of the process that will always appear to take you higher in life.

[] Do you know YOU were BORN without FEAR?

Have courageous thoughts during your most feared moments. Overcoming your fears will leave you unafraid and strong-minded.”– Alexander BusyBrain

You were born without fear. We are all afraid as a result of our childhood conditioning. When we were born, we had two wonderful qualities. First, you were completely unafraid. The infant has no natural fears, except for the fears of falling and loud noises. Second, we were completely spontaneous.

The infant expresses himself freely and openly, without any thought or concern about what anyone else has to say or think. But, as you grew up, your parents and the people around you began teaching you to be afraid. They began programming the fears into you that held you back for the rest of your life. When you began growing up and started exploring the world around you, they told you things like “stop!”, “get away from there”, “you can’t do that”, “get out of there”, “that will hurt you” and so on.

As a result of this early conditioning, you developed the belief that you were too small and too weak to do anything new or different. You feel “I am not good enough”. Soon you began to develop the first signs of fear, which is expressed in words “I can’t”. So as an adult, your first reaction to anything new, different and challenging is to think of ways and reason why it could not be possible.

[] What made AGU so SCARED?

Expose yourself to your deepest fear; after that, fear has no power and the fear of freedom shrinks and vanishes. You are free”. – Jim Morrison

Legend has it that Agu was walking alone at night when he saw a group of people approaching in the far distance. Instantly, his imagination began to toy with him: “They are surely robbers!” he thought. “No, why just robbers? Murderers, cutthroats! About to set upon me, a lonely traveler, leave me for dead and steal all my possessions!

How are my wife and children going to cope without me?!“Agu heart began to pound. His mouth became as dry as his palms became wet. He shook from head to toe and found himself breathing like an unfit man running to the finishing line of his first marathon. Having thoroughly terrified himself, he stumbled into a nearby graveyard and cowered shaking inside an open tomb, awaiting his fate. Meanwhile, the harmless strangers, worried by his dramatic behavior, approached him and looked with concern down into the tomb.

“What are you doing down there?” they asked.

Nasr din, calming down quickly, said: “Well, put it this way: I am here because of you and you are here because of me!”

[] FEAR is just in the HEAD

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain”. – Frank Herbert

Imagination is a tool to be used, but how many people misuse it to torment themselves? Imagination and emotionality are closely linked and what we imagine can feel very real to us (even when it isn’t at all). We frighten ourselves by fantasizing negative outcomes to any activity we might pursue or experience. Luckily, because we are the ones doing the fantasizing, we are also the ones who can stop the fear and bring ourselves into a state of clarity and peace by facing the actually facts, rather than giving in to our imaginations.

We can choose to be sensible. Psychologists say fear means Fantasized Experiences Appearing Real. So, one way to disappear your fear is to ask yourself: what you are imagining that is scary to you, then replace that image with its positive opposite. Don’t be afraid of any false evidence and just do it.

Another way to also deal with fear is to do the things you are afraid of. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote“Do the thing you fear and the death of fear is sure. If you do not do the things you fear, the fear controls your life. Break out of you comfort zone, do the things you fear every day and you might be surprised what gets waked up in you”. Eminem said“Am not afraid to take a stand, am standing up to face my demons”. Fear has two meanings: Forget Everything And Run or Face Everything And Rise. The choice is yours.

The best way to explore hidden talent is to try completely new scary things every day. Don’t be afraid to sing, rap and dance in that church, school and show of yours. Don’t be afraid to do that sport of your dreams and become an athlete. Don’t be afraid to start writing that book, journal etc. Don’t be afraid to start that business and job. Don’t be afraid to start that thing in your mind right now, just trust and have faith in God. “Even when you’re afraid, keep trusting”. -Psalm 56:3

Look at what Marianne Williamson has to say “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us”. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. Remember that fear is just in your head.

[] What FEARS YOU need to FACE?

The first duty of man is to conquer fear; he must get rid of it, he cannot act till then”. -Thomas Carlyle

One day, on the plains of Africa, a young buffalo named Walter approached his dad and asked him if there was anything that he should be afraid of.

“Only lions my son,” his dad responded.

“Oh yes, I’ve heard about lions. If I ever see one, I’ll turn and run as fast as I can,” said Walter.

“No, that’s the worst thing you can do,” said the large male.

“Why? They are scary and will try to kill me.”

The dad smiled and explained, “Walter, if you run away, the lions will chase you and catch you. And when they do, they will jump on your unprotected back and bring you down.”

“So what should I do?” asked Walter.

“If you ever see a lion, stand your ground to show him that you’re not afraid. If he doesn’t move away, show him your sharp horns and stomp the ground with your hooves. If that doesn’t work, move slowly towards him. If that doesn’t work, charge him and hit him with everything you’ve got!”

“That’s crazy; I’ll be too scared to do that.

What if he attacks me back?” said the startled young buffalo.

“Look around, Walter. What do you see?”

Walter looked around at the rest of his herd. There were about 200 massive beasts all armed with sharp horns and huge shoulders. “If ever you’re afraid, know that we are here. If you panic and run from your fears, we can’t save you, but if you charge towards them, we’ll be right behind you.”

The young buffalo breathed deeply and nodded. “Thanks dad, I think I understand.”

We all have lions in our worlds. There are aspects of life that scare us and make us want to run, but if we do, they will chase us down and take over our lives. Our thoughts will become dominated by the things that we are afraid of and our actions will become timid and cautious, not allowing us to reach our full potential.

So face your fears. Show them that you’re not afraid. Show them how powerful you really are. And run towards them with courage and boldness, knowing that we are supporting you and cheering you on. May you always do what you are afraid to do.

What fears do you need to face at the moment?

[] Who YOU should FEAR

Never let your fears be the boundaries of your dreams”. – Nike

Another way to deal with your fears is to leave it in the hands of God. Corrine Ten Boom said “You should never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God”*.] So let God have all your worries and cares for He is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you. Let Him take the wheel. [[“The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom should I beafraid”](Psalm 27:1). Yes, the Lord is your strength why fear anything or anyone. Fear not tomorrow God is already there. I like Lil Wayne’s advice in “Roman revenge” with Nicki Minaj when he said [“If you’re scared, go to Church, say your prayers and read the Bible”].*

There is only one person that you should fear and that person is God. The book of Luke 12:4-5 gives us a good reason why we should fear only Him.

4 And I say unto you my friends, be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.

5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. (KJV)

[] Who are your FRIENDS and FAMILY?

In dwelling, live close to the ground. In thinking, keep to the simple. In conflict, be fair and generous. In governing, don’t try to control. In work, do what you enjoy. In family life, be completely present”. – Lao Tzu

I can still picture myself reciting the definition of a family in primary school as “the smallest unit of a community which consists of a father, mother and children”. This is the simplest definition of a family, but family is more than a father, mother and children. A family is two or more people who share the same goals and values, have a long term commitment to one another and reside usually in the same dwelling.

It does not really need to be made of people who are related by blood. Remember the saying “Family is what you make it”*.* Whether made of blood relatives, friends or pets, or a combination of these, your family offers you all the support, care, love and affection that you need to thrive in life. Family is usually made of the people who accept you no matter who you are, where you have been and what you did.Family is where you can be your worst and still feel cool about it. It is where you get lots of love, laughter and feel safe.

The love of a family should be unconditional and everyone should try their best to provide all they can for the people in their family. It does not matter if they are your blood relatives, if they have been there for you all their life, and will be there for you unconditionally for the rest of your life, then they are your family.

Friendship is a deep relation tied with a particular closeness based on love and sharing of common interest. An African proverb says “A friend is a brother that one chose”. A friend is a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically exclusive of sexual or family relations. A friend is someone who accepts your past, supports your present and encourages your future. They are the ones who have nice things to say behind your back and will always want to bring out the best in you. We all have friends. I have not seen or had of someone who does not have a friend.

[] Why not ask your FRIENDS and FAMILY?

*“You don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.“[*– Desmond Tutu]

These two groups of people (your family members and friends) know a lot about you. They see you every day. They are always with you. You stay in the same house and share the same bed with them. They know some of your secrets. You spend more time with them than any other group of people in your life. Some of your family members have known you since you were a child. They know when you are angry, happy or sad. So since you have spent more time with them than any other group of people, they know you better than any other group of people too. They probably know some of the things about you that you don’t even know about yourself.

They notice some of the things you do without telling you. The topics of conversation we have can definitely tell what we are interested in, and this is a good way to find out what we really enjoy in life. Most of the time, we aren’t totally aware of this. This is why, a very good way to figure out your talent properly, is to ask your friends and family members. So in order to find your hidden talent you should ask other people like your friends and family questions such as:

p<>{color:#000;}. What makes them love you?

p<>{color:#000;}. What do you do that makes them happy?

p<>{color:#000;}. Which part of you that makes you unique?

p<>{color:#000;}. What do you do uniquely well that offers significant benefit to others?

p<>{color:#000;}. What are those things that you are great at?

p<>{color:#000;}. Ask them what makes you special?

p<>{color:#000;}. Ask them what they believe you like to talk about the most?

p<>{color:#000;}. Ask them what are the things you love to do?

p<>{color:#000;}. Ask them what topic makes your eyes brighten up, and changes your entire behavior?

The talent is hidden because you have not found it on your own. Pick up your phone this very minute and start calling, texting and e-mailing your friends asking them those questions above. I can guarantee you that some of their answers will be surprising to you.

Their answers to these questions will definitely provide you with clues to what your talents are and clues to what you are put here on earth to do. Some of these things weren’t that clear to you, but your friends can see the reaction on your face that you can’t see yourself. You should ask as many of your friends that you can remember and as many family members that you know. Remember your friends are those who bring out the best in you and your family is those who want to see you be the best.

[] Do YOU have a FRIEND like BILL?

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him”. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Horror gripped the heart of the World War I soldier as he saw his lifelong friend fall in battle. Caught in a trench with continuous gunfire whizzing over his head, the soldier asked his lieutenant if he might go out into the “no man’s land” between the trenches to bring his fallen comrade back. “You can go,” said the lieutenant, “but I don’t think it will be worth it. Your friend is probably dead and you may throw your life away.”

The lieutenant’s advice didn’t matter, and the soldier went anyway. Miraculously he managed to reach his friend, hoist him onto his shoulder and brought him back to their company’s trench. As the two of them tumbled together to the bottom of the trench, the officer checked the wounded soldier, and then looked kindly at his friend.

“I told you it wouldn’t be worth it,” he said.

“Your friend is dead and you are mortally wounded.”

“It was worth it, though, sir,” said the soldier.

“What do you mean; worth it?” responded the Lieutenant. “Your friend is dead.”

“Yes, Sir” the private answered. “But it was worth it because when I got to him, he was still alive and I had the satisfaction of hearing him saying, “Bill…, I knew you’d come.”

And that’s true friendship. Do you have friends like Bill? Or can you be like Bill to your friends? If you don’t have friends like that, drop the old ones and go get yourself new ones. If you are not like Bill to your friends, you better change before they drop you and find themselves new friends.

[] What are YOU still doing in your COMFORT ZONE?

Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new”. – Ziad K. Abdelnour

Comfort zone is a large self-created prison which consists of cant’s, musts, must not’s and other unfounded beliefs formed from all the negative thoughts and decisions you have accumulated and reinforced during your life. Comfort zone is a situation or position in which a person feels secured; comfortable and in control.

Your comfort zone is comfortable because it is where you know what to expect. We are ruled by habits. We do things the same old way because it is comfortable. The risk in staying firmly inside our comfort zones is that it creates psychological barriers that can lead to real limitations. But, if you really want to discover those talents of yours, you need to break out of your comfort zone. You have to be comfortable doing things that you are not currently comfortable with you.

I’ve learned in my life that it’s important to be able to step outside your comfort zone and be challenged with something you’re not familiar or accustomed to. That challenge will allow you to see what you can do”. – J. R. Martinez

Comfort is easy. We fear uncertainty, loss, and pain and so we seek to cushion ourselves against the rawness of life by spending our lives in artificial climate-controlled boxes safe from unwanted intrusion. *Fear of failure and fear of what people will say keeps us in our comfort zone._ Ashton Kutcher said [[“I’m continually trying to make choices that put me against my own comfort zone. As long as you’re uncomfortable, it means you’re growing”.*]_]

We stay in our comfort zone trying to please our family members, friends and the people around us. The truth of the matter is that people that care don’t matter and people that matter don’t care*.* So don’t stay in that comfort zone of yours trying to please people that don’t matter, not even yourself.

When you are 18, you worry about what everybody is thinking of you. When you are 40, you don’t give a dam what anybody is saying. When you are 60, you realize nobody’s been thinking about you at all. If you keep on doing what you have always done, you will keep on getting what you have always got. You want a change and to discover your talents, then you need to move out from comfort zone.

If we stay where we are, where we’re stuck, where we’re comfortable and safe, we die there… When nothing new can get in, that’s death”. – Anne Lamott

A baby feels safe, warm and secure in its mother’s womb. However, to stay there much longer than the gestation period would mean certain death for both the mother and child. Life began for all of us as we left the comfort and security of the worm of our mothers and faced the strange and unfamiliar world outside. Our first breath is often a painful experience, a cry of protest at temporary discomfort. Yet without this experience, our life would be fleetingly short.

Moses uses an interesting illustration in Deuteronomy 32:11, where he describes the mother eagle forcing her young to leave the nest and fly. The eaglet wants to stay in the nest and be fed, but if he remains there, he will never use his great wings or enjoy the great heights for which he was created. So his mother has to knock him out of the nest, catch him on her wings when he falls too far and repeat the process until he learns to fly on his own.

James Bryant Conant said“Just like a turtle, we only make progress if we stick our neck out.” If you don’t step out of your comfort zone and face your fears, the number of situations that make you uncomfortable will keep growing. If you want to move to a new level in your life, you must break through your comfort zone and practice doing things that are not comfortable. *The only time you are actually growing is when you are uncomfortable._ If you want to be rich and successful, you had better get comfortable with being uncomfortable. [[*The more comfort becomes your priority; the more contracted you become with fear.]_]Benedict Cumber batch said it all“The further you get away from yourself, the more challenging it is. Not to be in your comfort zone is great fun”*.*

You and I enjoy our little nests, and we have worked hard to build them. This explains why we are comfortable in it and don’t want to leave it. But to achieve your dreams and discover your hidden talent you must break out of your current comfort zone and become comfortable with the unfamiliar and the unknown. Brian Tracy advised“Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new”.

If we stay where we are, where we’re stuck, where we’re comfortable and safe, we die there… When nothing new can get in, that’s death”. – Anne Lamott

A man was passing some elephants, when he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at any time, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not. He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away.

“Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grew up, they were conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.” The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, does this describe you – still trapped in a comfort zone by something as little and weak as the small rope and stake that controls the elephant, except your rope is made up of the limiting beliefs and images that you received and took on when you were young? How many of us go through life hanging onto our cant’s, musts, must not’s and other unfounded beliefs formed from all the negative thoughts and decisions we have made.

A belief, that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before? I love what Joel Osteen said“I want to challenge you today to get out of your comfort zone. You have so much incredible potential on the inside. God has put gifts and talents in you that you probably don’t know anything about”.

[] QUESTIONS that will get YOU OUT

If we’re growing, we’re always going to be out of our comfort zone”. – John Maxwell

A question will be going on; on your mind right now like am I in a comfort zone, where is my comfort zone and if those are your questions? Answering the following questions will provide you with an answer:

p<>{color:#000;}. Do I keep doing what’s always been done, or challenge old assumptions and try newapproaches to problems?

p<>{color:#000;}. Do I proactively seek new challenges or just manage those I already have?

p<>{color:#000;}. Do I risk being exposed and vulnerable, or act to protect my pride and patch of power?

p<>{color:#000;}. Do I ask for what I really want, or just for what I think others want to give me?

p<>{color:#000;}. Do I ‘toot my horn’ to ensure others know what I’m capable of, or just hope my efforts will be noticed?

p<>{color:#000;}. Do I speak my mind or bite my lip, lest I ruffle feathers or subject myself to criticism?

If your answers to these questions indicate that you are in a comfort zone, Stan Dale has this to say to you. “Comfort zone are plush lined coffins. When you stay in your plush lined coffins, you die.

The following suggestion should get you out of your comfort zone, so read them carefully:

p<>{color:#000;}. Change your frame of mind. View your comfort zone not as a shelter but a prison.

p<>{color:#000;}. Embrace constructive discomfort. Don’t take the safe, known path. Choose challenge over comfort, and set goals that force you to get out of your comfort zone. Learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.

p<>{color:#000;}. Gradually expand the perimeter of your comfort zone. Lean into the discomfort.

p<>{color:#000;}. Don’t sprint out of your comfort zone, take small but frequent steps. Push the walls out; don’t try to knock them down.

p<>{color:#000;}. Periodically check your progress to confirm that you’re going further out over time.

I wish you good luck getting out of that comfort zone of yours, and discovering that talent of yours. Remember the words of Neale Donald Walsch“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”.

[]PART 3

I was blessed with certain gifts and talents and God gave them to me to be the best person I can be and to have a positive impact on other people”. – Bryan Clay

[] Who said YOU CAN’T?

To be a champion, you have to believe in yourself when nobody else will”. – Sugar Ray Robinson

Back in the Garden of Eden, when the world was still very young, just after our father Adam and our mother Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they hid themselves from God. In the cool of the day, God came to them and said, “Adam, Eve, where are you?” They said, “God, we are hiding because we are naked.” God immediately knew that the enemy the devil has been talking to them. So He said, “Adam, who told you that you are naked?”

God is asking the same to you right now, who said you can’t be great, who said you can’t be successful, who said you can’t be rich, who said you can’t be a blessing to this generation, who said you can’t achieve that goal, who said you can’t find true love, who said you can’t be the best father or mother and husband or wife in the world?

Who said you can’t discover and develop your talent, who said you can’t preach the gospel, who said you can’t heal the sick, who said you can’t help the poor, who said you can’t give scholarship to a community of children, who said you can’t love your neighbor as yourself, who said you can’t impact lives in a positive way, who said you can’t drop those bad habits of yours?

Who said you can’t write your name in the sand of time, who said you can’t live a righteous life, who said you are not beautiful or handsome; who said you can’t graduate with first class, who said you can’t overcome that challenge, who said you were born a mistake or an error?

who said you won’t travel to places or tour the world, who said you are lonely, who said you are suffering, who said you are sick, who said you are going to die, who said you can’t be a hero, who said you can’t be the best child or parent in the world and who said you are a failure? Who! Who! Who said it? If it is anyone, your father, teacher, pastor, doctor, friend, sibling, boss etc then it is a big lie from the pit of hell.

If it is you that said it then, am sorry my friend because it might just be true. Brian Tracy wrote“You are the architect of your own destiny; you are the master of your own fate; you are behind the steering wheel of your life. There are no limitations to what you can do, have, or be. Except the limitations you place on yourself by your own thinking.” You are confined only by the walls you build yourself. Accept no one’s definition of your life; define yourself.

If you are going to be successful, you need to give up the phrase “I can’t” and it’s family members like “I wish I were able to”, “People like me don’t do it”, “Can I really do this?” etc. The words I can’t actually disempower you. They make you weaker than you were when you said it. Remember Success comes in cans’. Failures come in cants’.

[] DROP the EXCUSES holding YOU BACK

Ninety-nine percent of all failure comes from people who have a habit of making excuses.” – George Washington Carver

If you want to create the life of your dreams, develop your talents and manifest with it, then you must take full responsibility for your life. This means giving up all your excuses. Excuses like am too young, am too old, I can’t, I will try, not now, I don’t have enough money, am not talented, my family will think I am crazy, it is too hard etc. You also have to give up all your victim stories, all the reasons why you can’t and why you have not until now and all your blaming others and outside circumstances. You have to give them all up now and forever.

O. J. Simpson wrote“The day you start taking complete responsibility for yourself and the day you stop making any excuses. That’s the day you start to the top”.We all love to talk about all the reasons why we can’t do something. We can find so many excuses to stop us from doing so many things. There are always enough reasons and excuses that can prevent us from reaching for our dreams. Before I started writing this book, there were so many excuses that I could have given to prevent me from writing and publishing it.

Excuses like I was not having enough money for publishing it at that particular time, I was not having a laptop to do the typing. I was too young to write a book like this, books like this don’t sell in this country, I was supposed to be working and looking for money instead of wasting time writing this book etc.

Yes, at the time of writing this book, all the above excuses were visible. It would have been reasonable to give and hold on to these excuses but at the same time it would have prevented me from achieving my dream. And it could not have helped you and countless others in discovering and developing their talents. Whatever you want to do? Do it now. There are only so many tomorrows.

William Arthur Ward said“It is wise to direct your anger towards problems – not people; to focus your energies on answers – not excuses”. So you see, I had to overlook those unimportant excuses, I had to wipe them away from my heart and mind. I had to free myself from its hold. I made a decision not to let them hold me back.

That’s the reason why you are reading this book right now. You have to wake up to the fact that life is precious, so are your talents, and they cannot be wasted on excuses. Excuses are just excuses. Benjamin Franklin wrote“He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else”*.* They mask our fears and the doubt we feel within. All our excuses can ever achieve is to prevent you from achieving your dreams, developing your talents and helping us not to reach our full potentials.

It is said that if you want something badly, you will find a way else, you will find an excuse. If you really want to achieve your dream and develop your talents then you will need to stop making excuses and start making plans and progress. If you want something bad enough, nothing will stop you. Particularly excuses.

Accept that your excuses are your worst enemy if you really want to live your dreams and achieve your goals in life. You need to stop making excuses. You have to find the courage to follow your dreams. Don’t let your excuses hold you back. Go with courage and go for your dreams with everything you have got.

Remember, when you are stopped by an obstacle, find a way, not an excuse. It is you who can decide not to take the necessary steps to develop your talents and reach for your dreams. You have nobody to blame but yourself.

Just let the excuses drop, in fact drop them yourself and take massive action towards developing your talents and reaching for your dreams; so that in the future you will be proud of your achievements. You can either be an excuse merchant and achieve nothing or you can be successful in achieving your dreams and developing your talents. It is really up to you. The choice is yours.

If I shoot at the sun, I may hit a star”. – P. T. Barnum

In discovering your talent you’ve got to think and dream big. You should begin the process of dreaming big by first knowing that the bigger your thoughts, the bigger the dreams you dream, the bigger the goals you will achieve. Think and dream about the great and big things you will do with your talents, lives you will impact it with, places it will take you to and the great life you will have. Allow your minds to continually float freely when they think about what is possible for you. See the blue sky as the only limit to everything and anything that you could possibly be, or have or do.

Project your mind into the future several years from now and imagine what you want your life to look like. See the kind of house you want to live in, see the kind of wife or husband you want to marry, see the kind of work or job you want to do, see yourself in the place you want to spend your holidays, see how you will like to spend every day, every week and every month of your life and see the perfect life you want for yourself. See the great end of your life, career and dreams from the beginning.

*Reach for the moon. If you fall short at least you’ll be among the stars. You can never dream too big, but you can think too little._ Success comes from having dreams that are bigger than your fears. Thomas J. Vilord said[[“If you are not going to think big, don’t bother thinking at all”.]_] When you think big, your results are big”. And Victor Hugo warns[“Dream no small dreams, for they have no power to stir the souls of men”.*]

Your dreams should and must involve other people, it must affect lives. Your dream is not a personal thing; it should be for all humanity if possible. It should be about making the world a better place and it should be about impacting lives.

To create a balanced life, your dream should include the following areas of your life: work and career, finances, free time, health and fitness, relationships and family, personal goals and it should contribute in making the world a better place. *Make sure you have dreams that are high enough to inspire you and low enough to encourage you._ And never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. If you believe you can, then you will. Have confidence in your abilities, and then follow through with them. The time will pass anyway. Remember the words of Donald Trump [[“Think BIG! You are going to be thinking anyway, so think BIG!”*]_]

If I can dream, I can act and if I can act, I can become”. – Poh Yu Khing

Steven jobs and Steven Wozniak were a couple of blue-jeans-wearing guys from California, ages twenty one and twenty six. They were not rich, they had absolutely no business training, and they were hoping to get started in an industry that barely existed at the time. The year was 1976, before most people ever thought about buying computers for their homes.

In those days the entire home computer business added up to just a few brainy hobbyists, the original “Computer nerds”. So when Jobs and Wozniak scraped together thirteen hundred dollars by selling a van and two calculators then used the money to open Apple Computer, Inc. In Mr. Job’s garage, the odds against their smashing success seemed awfully long.

These two young entrepreneurs had a vision and a dream, a clear idea of what they believed they could achieve “Computers aren’t just for nerds anymore”, they announced “Computers are going to be the bicycles of the mind; low-cost computers are for everyone”.

From day one the Apple founders kept their vision and dreams intact, and they communicated it at every turn. They hired people who understood the dream and vision and let them share in its rewards. They lived and breathed and talked the dream. Even when the company got stalled, when the manufacturing people said no way, when the bankers said no more, Apple’s visionary leaders never backed down.

*Eventually because their dream was for everyone, the world came around._ Six years after Apple’s founding, the company was selling 650,000 personal computers a year. Wozniak and Jobs were dynamic leaders, years ahead of their time. They had a big dream and did everything possible to make it come to pass. Eleanor Roosevelt said [[“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”.*]_]

Climb high, climb far, and your goal: the sky, your aim: the stars. Harriet Tubman wrote“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world”.

[] What to do with those TALENTS

Leo Buscaglia wrote “Our talents are the gift that God gives to us… What we make of our talents is our gift back to God”.

You’ve got to have this at the front of your mind every time. All of us came to this earth with natural talents, things we are just naturally good at. These gifts were given to you for a reason: to use and share with others*.* Part of your mission in life is to share your gifts and value with as many people as possible. Which means being willing to play big.

The purpose of our lives is to add value to the people of this generation and those that follow. So your talent should be used in glorifying God, winning souls for Him, impacting lives, helping others and not just about making money. The by-product is that the more people you help, the richer you become, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and definitely financially. Happiness doesn’t result from what we get, but from what we give. Make no mistake, every person on this planet has a mission and you can only fulfill that mission with your talent.

You have never really lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.My friend, make use of your gifts, talents and abilities to serve others. Use them in making the world a better place, use it in helping the sick and poor, use it in writing your name in the hearts of men and use it to leave an everlasting impact in the world. So if you are living right now, there is a reason for it. If you are asking “How will I know when am done with my mission here on earth?” The answer is “If you are still breathing, you are not done”.

Your service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth. Service is your action key to unlimited successes. Marianne Williamson wrote“Success means we go to sleep at night knowing that our talents and abilities were used in a way that served others”.Erma Bombeck also once said“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, “I used everything you gave me”. This should be your story for God too on the day you stand before Him.

[] You need to GROW GOOD CORN

Our prime purpose in life is to help others. And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them”. – Dalai Larne

There was a farmer who grew award-winning corn. Each year he entered his corn in the state fair where it won a blue ribbon. One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors. “How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year?” the reporter asked. “Why sir,” said the farmer, “didn’t you know?

The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbors grow inferior corn, cross pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbors grow good corn.”

He is very much aware of the connectedness of life. His corn cannot improve unless his neighbor’s corn also improves. So it is with our lives. Those who choose to live in peace must help their neighbors to live in peace. Those who choose to be successful must help others to be successful. Those who choose to be great must help others to be great. Those who choose to live well must help others to live well, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches. Those who choose to be happy must help others to find happiness, for the welfare of each is bound up with the welfare of all.

The master motivator, Zig Ziglar said“You will always have everything you want in life if you will help others get what they want”.There is an old saying “find something you like to do so much that you’d gladly do it for nothing, and if you learn to do it well, someday people will be happy to pay you for it”. This should be our mind-set. Get to do things for people with your talent, inspire other people, touch lives because when you do these things free for people, you master your talent and you get attention and notice from these people. When you have become popular or famous with it, people will be happy to pay you for your services.

The race is not won by the most talented but by the one whom, in spite of trials and missteps, hardship and discouragement, remains steadfast in the work of developing their talent. For they understand that the gift is not for them alone, but for the world through them. Madeline Bridges wrote “Give the world the best you have and the best will come back to you”.

[] Is this the CONCLUSION?

Be a teacher to those below you, a student to those above you and a fellow traveler and helpmate to those on the same level”. – Alexander BusyBrain

I want to encourage you to read this book over and over again several times. Underline or circle the things that are most important to you and re-read what you have underlined or circled. You will discover that with each re-reading; you will not only reinforce what you already know but you will also discover something new, some concept that perhaps did not register during the first time. It takes a while to absorb and assimilate some or all the principles in this book; give yourself some time.

The greatest gift you can give anyone is the gift of empowerment, love and improvement. What could be more loving than helping people you care about to discover their talents which will help them fulfill their purpose, make them happy and empower them to create the life they truly want from the depths of their soul?

I also want to suggest and encourage you to give several copies of this great book to your family members, friends, course mates, employees, employers, spouse etc. you will be amazed at how radically you can change a family and a life. You were born with the ability to change someone’s life, don’t waste it.

We all have the power within us to create the life we want, the life we dream about and the life we were born to live. We all deserve to fulfill our full potential and manifest our true destiny. It is our birth right and our destiny but it must be earned through hard work and part of that work is first discovering your talent, and then developing them before manifesting them. Jeremy Kitson wrote“Destiny is not a matter of chance; it’s a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved”.

Phil Collins said“In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn”*.* One of the most powerful ways to learn anything is to teach it to others. It forces you to clarify your ideas, confront inconsistencies in your own thinking and more closely walk your talk. Most importantly, it requires you to read study and speak the information over and over again. The resulting repetition reinforces and improves your own learning.

Another major benefit of teaching is this – the more you help other people succeed in life, the more they will want to help you succeed. People naturally support those who have supported them. It also keeps you motivated. The same will be true for you, if from today you finish reading this book, you will start looking for others to teach and discuss the tips and principles in this book with. You are free to teach it in your church, in your school, in any social gathering, in a seminar or workshop etc.

An old Chinese proverb says“If your vision is for a year, plant wheat. If your vision is for ten years, plant trees. If your vision if for a lifetime, plant people”*.* I have a vision of a world where all people have discovered, developed and are using their talents in making the world a better place for us all. A world where all people are inspired to believe in themselves and their abilities and are empowered to reach their full potential and realize all their dreams. A world where everyone is happy working with their talents. This world is very possible but it begins with you and me.
