We support people with disability to access print materials for learning, work or leisure. Help us ensure information is fully accessible to everyone in the community.
VisAbility’s library service makes books and published titles accessible to people in their preferred format, such as talking books, Braille or large print.
· More than 70,000 searchable titles
· Easy to use online catalogue
· One-on-one assistance at the Dr Geoff Gallop Resource Centre
· Convenient and long-standing postal lending service.
Our digital books are produced in a special audio book format known as DAISY, which is a worldwide standard developed specifically for people who have a print disability.
The accessible media production service converts materials into Braille, audio or large print. We convert items for individuals as well as businesses, community groups, government departments, educational institutions and members of the public.
Items commonly requested include texts and examination papers, government reports, vocational materials, bus and train timetables, greeting cards and children’s story books. We can also produce tactile maps, diagrams, and adhesive Braille labels. Contact us to see what we can do for you.
The Cisco Academy for the Vision Impaired (CAVI) empowers people to learn anytime, anywhere, at their own pace, and with more targeted assessments and accountability than traditional classroom settings. CAVI instructors are former students and are vision impaired, giving them a unique insight into individual needs. Students can study externally or onsite at VisAbility’s Perron Centre, supported by a qualified Cisco instructor.
VisAbility offers Braille classes where individuals can learn Braille, improve their Braille skills or join a reading group. Our Braille for the Sighted course is developed specifically for sighted people who would like to learn Braille, such as:
· People who have family members or friends with a vision impairment
· Employees who provide services to people with a vision impairment
· Education assistants
· People who want to become volunteer Braille transcribers.
