In my horror fantasy novel STONE KNIVES & EXTRA LIVES, a romantic excursion in the Welsh countryside and a botched marriage proposal escalate quickly into a battle for survival against forces far greater than “will-she or won’t-she.” When Chris whisks his far more successful girlfriend Jules away for a romantic weekend in the hills, she’s surprised to find that their three best childhood friends are along for the ride. Amidst evenings full of unhealthy snacks and hours of Dungeons and Dragons Chris finally realizes that Jules is annoyed with him. But the cave he picks out to pop the question turns out to be a rather unfortunate choice. Once monsters start crawling out of the earth and devouring his loved ones Chris has to face witches, learn magic, travel through time, and maybe even give his own life before he can hope to save the day. A cross between The Descent, Evil Dead, and just a pinch of Stranger Things, STONE KNIVES & EXTRA LIVES draws on my own adolescent experiences of spending days underground in the mystical country of Wales, as well as my unwavering love for the horror genre that I discovered at the age of fifteen.
