Are you Just a Nurse or Much More?

Read more Nursing Courses articles: http://j.mp/29Nv6H8

Using the term ‘Just a nurse; to refer to a nurse is demeaning and a blow to the wonderful job they do to help the sick and the injured. But sadly, this is the one question that an average nurse would hear a million times during the course of her practice. This question sometimes comes from within (father, mother, brother, sister) or from the outside (friends and patients).

Nursing – a serious profession indeed

Nurses and the nursing profession should be taken seriously because of their importance in the society. Already, the pay packages of nurses are usually very attractive – sometimes equal to or more than that of the doctors.

Nurses should be highly tolerant and sympathetic

As a nurse, there are times when you may feel like calling it a quit, times like when you have a terrible fight with a psychiatric patient, times when patients call you names, times when you stick catheter into various openings or times when a patient may try to get an infectious disease on you.

At such times, it is normal for a nurse to wish they had been something else, something like a medical doctor who doesn’t have to do all the messy jobs, something like owning a spa where you will have time and space to share juicy gossip with several other girls or better still owning a restaurant down the road.

Nurses have to be sacrificing and dedicated

The singular factor that makes nursing to be different from all other profession is that nurses put the life of others before theirs. This means they have to endure emotional and physical pains of mind and body. For example, nurses have to give up their comfort and time to be by the side of patients, hence miss important appointments with friends.

No matter how empathetic you may be towards your patients, there are times when a nurse has to be brutal with the truth. Though what every patient wants to hear is that they are getting better but when the patients are never going to get better (like a case of malignant cancer), it will be in the best interest of the nurse to let them know.

Nurses often share in the emotions of their patients, some shed tears because of the pain their patients are going through and others find joy in watching the recovery process of their sick patients. The life of a nurse can be frustrating, challenging and exciting but at the end, it is always rewarding.

They might have other identities too

Nurses are often believed to have a boring lifestyle and grounded by their career which makes them just a nurse. However, a nurse can stand herself out of the pack by investing more time into her hobbies.

How will it sound to have a nurse who is also a bestselling author, a nurse who plays soccer, a nurse who is an Olympic gold medal winner or maybe a nurse who is just fun to be around? You would agree that these are rare occurrences and people will like you for the extra effort you put in to build your hobby besides your career.

Colleges That Serve as Best Option for Nursing Major

Read more Nursing Courses articles: http://j.mp/29Nv6H8

Nursing is one of the noble professions that deal with the care for human life. Their duty is vital in medical history because without them, the doctors cannot function properly. Nurses also are in charge of keeping proper medical records.

In the hospital for example, they make the necessary tools needed during surgery handy, more like a ball boy in a football. They also walk round the wards routinely and at stipulated times to administer injections and drugs either as tablets or infusions to patients where needed.

However, nursing profession needs critical training and this sort of training does not easily come by. If you happen to reside in Canada or have interest in any of the Canadian nursing college, there are a whole lot of options to choose from but there are certain qualities that makes a few of them stand out of the pack.

Progress/transformation of the nursing profession

The nursing profession has had a lot of transformation over the years beginning with the likes of Florence Nightingale. Majority of the transformation has been changed in policy and linked to either government intervention or resolutions reached by health associations. Most of the recent advances have focused on ways of improving the services nurses render to patients.

University of Toronto Faculty of Nursing

One of the foremost colleges of nursing is the Bloomberg faculty of nursing situated in the University of Toronto. The faculty which dates back its existence to 1920 has grown to become one of the leading channels for training of nurses and was also the first to offer a 4 years program in Bachelor of Science in the whole of Canada.

University of Western Ontario Faculty of Health Science

The University of Ontario is one of the great institutions that offer Nursing training to many strata of learning. Undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D. students can enroll into the college’s health science and gain the required experience through the process.

Mount Royal College of Medicine and Midwifery

This college appears to be the only university that offers a midwifery program for undergraduates and graduates in the whole of Alberta. The university is located in Calgary in Alberta and one of the top in the country.

University of British Columbia

The inauguration of this institution was done in the year 1919 and the institution offers international standard training on nursing to both undergraduates and postgraduates in Canada. The institution also doubles as the first nursing college to be established in Canada.

Factors to consider in picking a college option

The diverse nursing institutions can prove to be a distraction or make it even more difficult for a prospective nursing student to make up their mind on an option. To make things easier as a prospective student, you will need to be certain of the type of nursing program you want. One could decide to go for midwifery or a nursing degree. There are various advantages that come with either option and it is paramount to carry out an in-depth research in the various options so as to avoid making a wrong decision.

Best Nursing Institutes in Bangalore, India, Recognized By INC

Read more Nursing Courses articles: http://j.mp/29Nv6H8

Nursing institutes are special training centers where nurses are trained. The variety of training to be received will depend on the branch of nursing you would like to practice. There is the general care and the midwifery.

The general care is those that administer drugs to patients and help doctors out during surgical processes while the midwives are narrowed to providing care for pregnant women. Some midwives can mature to the point where they will be able to help pregnant women deliver their babies.

Requirements vary to get into a nursing institute

The requirements to gain admission into a nursing institute are not static. It strongly varies from one institution to another. However, the interested candidates, in most cases, are required to write screening exams. Those that make it pass the required mark are also sometimes required to present some documents that show they have passed through some other forms of education.

There are two types of nursing courses in Bangalore

Bangalore, one of the big cities in India runs two major types of nursing courses; the basic and the post basic nursing courses. These two courses have been recognized by the INC in India. Below is a brief analysis of what the two different courses mean.

1. Basic B.Sc. in nursing

This is a four years program and is equivalent to an undergraduate degree. To qualify, the student must have obtained a pass in a combination of Physics, Chemistry and Biology with English. The minimum pass requirement is about forty percent. Basic B.Sc. program runs for four years.

2. Post Basic B.Sc. in nursing

The post Basic B.Sc. program in nursing is equivalent to a post graduate degree. To enroll for a Post Basic B.Sc. in nursing, one must have successfully concluded the Basic program with a good grade. The Post Basic B.Sc. in nursing usually runs for two years and it is often accomplished through distant learning.

What nursing means to many people in Bangalore

Nursing,to many families, means a job security and for this reason, many families opt for it as a way of securing their future, considering that in India, jobs can be very volatile and highly competitive because of the burst in population.

Though there is an increasing number of males and females going into nursing, the increasing population in the country is a source of concern because the current population of nurses doesn’t match the current influx of patients. That means that the nurses on ground are currently overworked, requiring that more hands should be allowed to come into the field.

As earlier mentioned however, because of the strict regulation on the training of nurses and nursing institution by INCexpansion and licensing of nursing institutes takes a whole lot of time and efforts should be made to lighten up the process and expand the slots allotted to nursing training in the best interest of the nation. But in doing this, care should be taken not to jeopardize the standard for admittance into nursing institute and the training process because this will spell doom for the nation.

How to Build a Career As a Nurse

Read more Nursing Courses articles: http://j.mp/29Nv6H8

As children, we always have different dreams and aspirations. Some of those dreams are short-lived while others follow us into adulthood. If you have a vision of becoming a nurse – no matter how early or late in life the dream came up – there are a few things you need to know.

Patience, humility, empathy and self-control are the basics of nursing

The first step is to ask yourself, “what do nurses do and why will I want to be a nurse?” Nurses are more than the white gown you see them with. If the white gown is the only draw which attracted you to be a nurse, then you should better consider fashion designing. Nurses are health care providers and play a major role in hospitals where they assist the doctors to function effectively.

There are some qualities that you need to have as a nurse and they include patience, humility and empathy and self-control. No matter how good you are as a nurse, you will at one point in your career come across patients that are either unruly or abusive and that is the point where self-control comes in. If you have these qualities, then you have a strong case to argue if anyone should disprove your wanting to become a nurse.

The other requirements to nursing institution

If you want to be a nurse, then, from your high school, you must choose the study of sciences over arts because nursing is a science.Of all the subjects, pay close attention to your Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and probably English.

Though the requirement in terms of subjects you must pass to be allowed to train as a nurse may vary, they are most certainly going to focus on the aforementioned subjects – that is not to say that you do not need to take all your subjects seriously anyways.

Biology

This is the study of life. Most of what you would learn here has to do with living and non-living things, their morphology and physiology and characteristics. Biology is usually a voluminous subject to handle.

Chemistry

This subject has to do with chemical reactions in nature and mostly, you would be working with acid and bases.

Physics

Physics is the study of objects in motion. You should expect lots of calculations and formulas in this subject and your knowledge of mathematics will come in handy.

English language

Depending on the language of instruction in your country or the country you are aiming to get,English language may be a requirement or various other language may be required.

Learn from your mentor to be a better nurse

The best way to make yourselves better at anything is to learn by observation or from someone very experienced in the field who can serve as a mentor. On the other hand, you can apply openly to become an intern. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to learn from the inside what makes a nurse a nurse.

Nursing profession has strong job security

Because of the expanding national population, you are bound to have a decent job as soon as you are done with your training. Also, there is a more job security in nursing that many other career choices.

Why Education of Nurses should be Taken Seriously

Read more Nursing Courses articles: http://j.mp/29Nv6H8

The current rot in the education of nurses is worrisome considering the delicate nature of the nursing profession. For any profession to strive, it needs good and dedicated educators to carry on the profession and continue training of the younger generation. Though nursing in the United States is of high standard, the current shortage of nurses is worrisome.

Evidence of this shortage is glaring when you look at the number of job adverts placed online which requires the services of nurses in various areas. Sadly, only few people are available take up these jobs. However, some educators think this can be changed in a few years.

Shocking report! 42% nurses are 55+ year-old

In May 2015, the Oregon Center for Nursing released an infographic which threw further light to the research they have been conducting about the state of nursing education. The nurse workforce in Oregon is placed at 720 and of this number; a whooping forty two percent has ages between 55 and 64.

More nurses are retiring than the new nurses

As of now, the field of nursing is experiencing shortage. Looking at the statistics, it is evident that retirement is already catching up with a good proportion of the nursing workforce. One would be tempted to ask what would then happen when a large proportion of the workforce are retired.

Obviously, if nothing is done, the current gap of staff requirement would only be made wider. If nothing is urgently done to increase the training of nurses. Not only nurses are threatened by retirements but also the educators.

Other industries facing the problem of staff shortage

Nurses are not the only ones faced with the problem of shortage of staff, reports also show that the trucking industry requires between thirty and forty thousand ne drivers. The industry is currently aiming to hire up to one hundred thousand new drivers within the coming years to fill the vacuum. The industry is currently working hard to get new drivers to fill the vacant positions.

The government and parents can be of help

Parents always have strong influences on their wards hence parents and government can work together to rekindle the passion of the younger generation to pursue a career in sciences, laws and other sectors where manpower is in dire need.

There is a wrong impression that nursing is for a certain category of underperforming people who cannot do better. Such an attitude and reasoning is also coming in the way of many jobs by limiting the willingness of people to go for them.

Students should have a career coach who would help them from a tender age to grow their passion for certain fields and government can throw incentives – like scholarships – to serve as a bait to help draw individuals to particular fields where they are most needed. The services of nurses will always be needed as long as there are still sick people to be attended to – one of the reasons nursing will never go out of fashion. However, if nursing education doesn’t receive urgent attention in five to ten years’ time, we may pay dearly for it.

Read more Nursing Courses articles: http://j.mp/29Nv6H8

There is a popular saying that learning never ends and as humans, we keep learning something new every day. This is in contrast to what many people believe – that learning is only achieved within the four walls of a school. Not everyone is privileged to achieve their childhood dream career at the time they want it. Some keep nursing these dreams to the older years of their life.

Age however does not deter some people from chasing such dreams, as long as they have all it takes to achieve it. Having this realization, the Brooklyn Adult Learning Center located in Bedford-Stuyvesant has received and accreditation of her practical nursing training program with a full license of operation.

There is a huge competition in this program and it is evident in the results of the NCLEX-PN examination. This brings the percentage pass to around eighty nine percent.

Read more Nursing Courses articles: http://j.mp/29Nv6H8

Once China is mentioned, myriads of people will only think of Chinese as the major – if not only – language that can be used for teaching. However, that is not true. There are still lots of courses that are offered in China using other languages as a medium of communication and if you are a prospective medical student or have interest in health sciences then what you are about to read will interest you.

Overseas students need to take up Chinese language course

If you intend going to China to study, you may be required to take up a Chinese language course for six months to a year but also, you may also be required to take a test of English – that is, if you are coming from a country that doesn’t have English as their first language.

A peek into the Chinese school of health

Chinese universities offer well taught courses in the best international standard and surprisingly, some of these courses are taught in English Language. Some of the courses you can receive in China includes[* Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Nursing (BSN) and Stomatology (BDS), and ofcourse the therapeutic medicine (MBBS).*]

International students pursue Chinese medical courses

China has become the choice destination of many international students who are seeking for high-quality medical education. The various choice courses have varying years of study. For example, BDS is very competitive and lasts for a minimum of five years which also incorporates a one year to a year and half compulsory internship.

Chinese universities for health study stand out from all

There are various reasons that makes Chinese health institutes stand out from what is obtainable in the West and some of those reasons are so glaring that one needs not to be told about them.

1. Relatively cheaper cost

Studying in China is relatively cheaper when you compare the tuition with what is obtainable in America and other European countries. This for example has made it a choice destination for students from developing and impoverished nations of the world.

2. Intense practical studies

Medical studies in China are more practical oriented than theoretical. For example, it is on record that Asia has the highest number of organ transplants which means there is a higher chance of you as a student to witness this procedure being carried out when in China than other parts of the world.

Also, there are medical practices that are peculiar to the Chinese – that originated from there. A good example is the acupuncture. This practice which dates back to traditional Chinese culture uses needle piercings on nerves to cure certain ailments. Till date, this practice is almost exclusively practiced in China.

3. A friendly study environment

Chinese people are very hospitable that you will soon forget that you are in a foreign land. The weather is also a bit friendly and can easily be adapted to by both the Western people and Africans.

Chinese certification is globally accepted

The school certificate awarded by the Chinese upon graduation from any of her health courses is widely accepted worldwide and that means that after studying in China, you are eligible to practice in various regions of the world – another good reason to get a Chinese certificate.

Expansion in the Institutions Offering Bachelor of Nursing

Read more Nursing Courses articles: http://j.mp/29Nv6H8

Nursing is one profession that requires student in high quantity because as the population of the world continues to grow, more nursing services would be required to take care of the sick and the vulnerable. The growing violence in the world is also putting a strain on the number of nurses required to cater for the injured.

Sadly, the number of students willing to take up nursing courses continues to decline at a fast rate. Added to this, there is a burdening regulation on nursing institutes that makes expansion of nursing schools almost impossible.

Regulation in nursing training should be flexible

Though it is good to regulate nursing training and practices to be sure that only the best are churned out into the society – owing to the sensitivity of the services they render – but a balance has to be created to make sure those willing to take up nursing are not denied as a result of proximity or availability of nursing institutes.

The arrival of a sort of palliative

It is on this note that Mt. San Antonio College partnered with Mount Saint Mary’s University to launch a Bachelor of Science program in nursing. The program which already started on the 24 of August 2015 had 30 students in its 2015/2016 pilot session.

Structure of the program

The program will be handled through the Los Angeles based University and teaching would be both off campus (online) an on campus (offline). It is a full time study of three continuous semesters and consists of 35 units.

However, the program seems to have a strong restriction on membership. According to a professor, Lance Wilcher, only Mt. SAC students who graduated with associate degree in nursing (ASN) will be allowed to take up the Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN). As of now, only 19 students are enrolled in the Bachelor’s program.

Positive reaction of the students to the program

As would be expected of any new development, people will definitely have their varying views. However, for this decision of a Bachelor of Science in nursing, the enrolled students have continued to share their appreciation for the program. It has all been a positive reaction on the part of the students.

Justin Villegas, a nursing student enrolled in the program said the program was a good opportunity for students – and it really is, for those in the vicinity. He stated that having the chance to further his studies in nursing while remaining in his local community was highly commendable.

Another nursing student, Evelyn Chamorro, had a slightly divergent opinion. She allayed her fears on the challenges that lie in the course. She further spoke on the accelerated speed of the classes (which sometimes holds only once a week) and the time consuming nature.

Unprecedented growth of the college

Though the program is only but a baby, the exploits it is already making in the teaching of nursing is unprecedented. Just last year, the program was ranked 13th out of all nursing programs in the western United States community and this was published in a survey by NurseJournal.org. The program covers 240 students who have recorded 91 percent pass in nursing board exam.

Nursing institutes offer diversified programs

There are various nursing institutes offering one program or the other in nursing and the requirements all differ depending on the type of program you are aiming at.
