Once, through my window,
Nature weakened my sight.
It blinded my heart with admiration.
My ears cheered by the whisper of trees.
The fluttering of the birds gave breath to my mouth.
In spring, there is the bloom of flowers:
Azaleas, daffodils and orchids of vivid colors.
Embers of hope over the branches!
The birds sing; their bodies dance.
Silk plumage more beautiful than jewels.
Raindrops slowly descend stems.
Teardrops descend my cheeks.
My heart, without a doubt, grew. It strongly grew.
“Don’t let this beauty fade away,” I implored.
I hit with my fist the window frame.
“Do not leave us! Do not go away!”
The singing bird replied
With its morning melody:
“No moment departs, no moment is lost.
Now my song magnifies your heart,
and your soul with happiness delights.”
The night arrived and my dream faded.
Through the window, I saw.
It was a dark morning.
Damned men and their sleight of hand!
In a sea of ashes, my hope wrecked.
There were no trees, nor the singing bird,
Only the icy whisper of death.
My eyes wept chilling tears of blood.
“Greedy man is the great debtor!”
shouted a swirl of ashes.
This my view of what would happen if we lose our most precious treasure: Nature.
