How Facebook can Help You Battle with Mesothelioma

Read more Mesothelioma Cancer articles: http://j.mp/29Nv3es

Facebook is one of the most popular social media apps that allow people to keep in touch with each other. It has over a billion subscribers and pages. The subscribers are allowed to post their thoughts and ideas on their timeline, on the timeline of others and on pages. Facebook have been used by many to support or remember those who are struggling with cancer.

Reading the stories of others can help you cope with yours

Navigating through the numerous stories of people showing their struggles with mesothelioma can provide solace for those who are newly diagnosed with the ailment. There are also pages on Facebook dedicated solely to mesothelioma patients where victims can connect with other victims and draw inspiration from their struggles.

New treatment options can be picked up from Facebook

Mesothelioma victims usually look for ways to manage the pains and other trauma that come with the disease because of lack of conclusive treatment. Victims usually share their struggles and how they are coping with the situation in such groups. Having been exposed to such information, you can try out a couple of them to pick out the one that works best for you.

Post updates on your timeline

Facebook has made it possible for people to post on their timeline. Mesothelioma victims can seize this opportunity to post about their challenges and attract comments from family and friends. You can adjust your privacy settings of your account to decide who sees your status. You can also post the stories of your family member or friends who are fighting the cancer with their consent.

Share the stories of friends

If a friend has posted their stories on Facebook, you can use the share button beneath the post to share it on your timeline or on other groups. Sharing their story can also increase their chances of getting help. When sharing the story, you can add a comment that will spur people to read them.

Pick your comments carefully

If someone has shared their mesothelioma struggle on Facebook, it is good to write an encouraging comment beneath. However, if you have a friend who is suffering from mesothelioma but has decided to keep their battle personal, it is not right to begin to talk openly about their situation. Instead, use generic comments like ‘Praying for you’, ‘Wish you well’ and so on when you comment on their posts.

Mesothelioma victims can have a private group

The mindset of everyone is not the same. There are mesothelioma victims that would not mind discussing about their struggles while there are others who would not want their condition to be made public. If you belong to the latter category, you can create a private group on Facebook. A private group can only be accessed by members who are added to the group by an admin.

Have a legacy contact

In the past, if a person dies, Facebook will disable their account. The updated Facebook policy allows loved ones to choose a legacy contact to keep managing their account long after they have died. The legacy contact will be able to update their page and upload pictures.

Living in isolation kills faster

People living with mesothelioma and other forms of cancer should be encouraged to share their stories and stay in touch with support groups. Living in isolation is bound to increase the level of depression and mental stress experienced by the victim. Sharing their stories will help them draw courage from other victims and know they are not alone in the struggle.

The Role of Facebook in Grieving the Loss of a Loved one to Cancer

Read more Mesothelioma Cancer articles: http://j.mp/29Nv3es

Cancer is one of the deadly ailments that take numerous lives – both young and old people – annually. The loved ones of the diseased are often left to mourn their dead in isolation or in the company of relatives and friends whose attempts fail to ease the pain they feel. A good number of those who are grieving the loss of a loved one now find a worthy companion in the social media.

Mesothelioma has many features of interest

Among the frequently recorded cancers in the United States, mesothelioma is one of them. Mesothelioma is a cancer of the mesothelium tissue lining the lungs, chest cavity and the abdomen. Years of study has isolated asbestos particles as the predisposing factor. People who are frequently exposed to asbestos dust usually come down with mesothelioma at the later years of their lives.

Mesothelioma destabilizes the patient physically

Persons that come down with mesothelioma usually experience fatigue and wobbly feet. Coupled with the normal symptoms of old age, this can affect the normal living of the patient by reducing the quality of their lives. The assistance of a caregiver sometimes becomes paramount for them to carry out their day to day activities.

There is no cure for mesothelioma and other forms of cancers

Medical professionals are still working hard to develop drugs that can target and kill cancerous cells or other therapies that can effectively eliminate the cancerous cells while doing minimal damage to the healthy cells. The great side effects and the damage to healthy cells caused by some of the newly develop therapies is the factor limiting their use.

Cancer patients are constantly seeking ways to manage their health

Those that have been diagnosed of one cancer form or the other often battle with the different symptoms in their struggle for survival. They constantly search for information anywhere they can on how to manage the condition. The social media is a great place where they often meet other victims and share experiences on how to manage their condition. Talking to someone else who is going through similar experience is also a source of relief.

Facebook is the largest social network

With over one billion users, Facebook is by far the largest social network in the world. Hate or love it, Facebook in one way or the other has been providing solace for those who have lost a loved one to cancer and several people have attested to how Facebook helped them get over the loss of their loved one.

Facebook preserves the memories of lost friends

It is sad that a few months or years after someone dies, they are forgotten. Those who have lost a loved one can always relive the memory of their presence each time they visit their wall or their page. A mom who lost a son to cancer opened a private group on Facebook where she posts pictures of her son on his anniversaries. Only the group members can see the posts.

Their picture archives on Facebook bring joy rather than pain

A lady who lost two of her friends to cancer suddenly found herself rummaging through their Facebook profile in search of their pictures. She said it has been over a year since she saw them before they lost the battle to cancer. She posted the pictures of her friends and tagged other friends to the pictures. The overwhelming messages friends posted as comments beneath the picture was a great source of comfort.

Green Tea has the Potential to Kill Cancer Cells

Read more Mesothelioma Cancer articles: http://j.mp/29Nv3es

The quest for the cure for cancer has been a raging battle for more than three decades. Medical and orthodox practices have been explored in an attempt to find an end to the menace caused by cancer. A study recently conducted by Penn State University’s food scientists has revealed that green tea can kill cancer cells.

Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) triggers death in cancer cells

Cancer cells are cells that have lost the normal inhibitory mechanism that controls cell division in the body thus the cells start dividing uncontrollably. Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is the primary compound found in green tea and they were shown to trigger a process in the mitochondria of cancer cells leading to apoptosis.

Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) induces death in five mesothelioma cell lines

It is assumed that Epigallocatechin-3-gallate causes formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cancer cells. This compound causes irreparable damage in the mitochondria and in response the mitochondria produces more reactive oxygen specie. Increased damage of mitochondria causes a lower defense in the cancer cell making it susceptible to early death.

Tannins and antioxidants slows spread of mesothelioma

Tannins and saponins are the major components of green leaves. Green leaves also have antioxidants which are good for mopping up free radicals from the body. Free radicals have been associated with cancer. Tannings and antioxidants have been shown to prevent or slow spread of mesothelioma cancer cells.

The test was carried out in the laboratory

The group from the Penn State University that studied the effect of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate on cancer harvested cancerous cells in a petri dish and exposed them to the compound in a concentration that is nearly as similar to that found in the saliva after an individual has chewed green-tea gum. Intermittently, they checked for oxidative stress in the cells.

Past studies have highlighted the effect of green tea

This is not the first time that researchers have tried to show the anti-cancer potentials of green tea. In 2002, the first study on the topic showed that there was a relationship between green tea and oral cancer. No further explanations were given until 2015 when scientists found the reason why green tea targets cancerous cells specially.

Further trials will need to be done

Given the success recorded in the laboratory trial, the next step would be to use animals and human subjects to try the process to see if the result found in the lab would be replicated in the models. One of the researchers working on the project, Lambert, said if success is achieved, then it would be possible for scientists to produce a cancer drug that lacks the numerous side effects of the current treatment options.

A large number of Americans are struggling with oral cancer

Statistics has put the number of Americans struggling with oral cancer at about forty-three thousand. Studies also show that about eight thousand lives are lost annually to oral cancer. The currently available treatment options are surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. However, these treatment options are marred by numerous side effects which are lacking with Epigallocatechin-3-gallate.

Green tea has other health benefits

Drinking of green tea is a practice that dates back to centuries. It has also become a part of the culture of many nations especially in Asia to take green tea every day. Drinking green tea is known to increase mental alertness, aid those who want to lose weight by speeding up the process of weight loss, lowers blood cholesterol level and protect the skin from damage caused by radiations from the sun.

What You Need to Know about Foods That Worsen Cancer

Read more Mesothelioma Cancer articles: http://j.mp/29Nv3es

People diagnosed of cancer often get conflicting information on what to eat and what not to eat. Doctors advise the mesothelioma patients certain food items that improve their condition and also forbid those that will worsen it. Sitting on top of the list of foods that should be taken with caution is sugar. Have you ever heard of the ‘sugar feeds cancer’ or wondered what it really meant? Here is the truth you need to know.

Sugar is the energy currency of the body

When you take in carbohydrates, your body will break it down into simpler form known as sugars. Examples of sugars that can be gotten from the breakdown of carbohydrates are glucose and galactose. Glucose is used by the body to produce energy.

The amount of glucose in the body is regulated by insulin

Consumption of foods that are rich in simple sugars will raise the level of your blood sugar. To keep this in check, the pancreas is stimulated to release insulin (a type of hormone). Research findings show that cancerous cells have more insulin receptors when compared to normal cells. This implies that increases of insulin can stimulate cancer cells to grow since insulin is a growth hormone.

Increased consumption can lead to diabetes

Heavy consumption of food rich in carbohydrate either stimulate the growth of cancer directly or lead to other health conditions that increases the risk of cancer. Diabetes is one of the debilitating illnesses caused by excess sugar in the body. This will result when the insulin is unable to mop the excess sugar from the blood. The other health condition that can arise from excess sugar in the body which predisposes one to cancer is obesity.

Insulin level can be controlled by moderate consumption of sugar

The body needs energy in the form of sugar (glucose to be precise). However, knowing that excess sugar will increase the level of insulin in the body which predisposes one to cancer, it is paramount to keep the level of glucose consumption low.

Reduce the amount of processed food consumption

Limiting the consumption of corn syrup and table sugars should be your first step in reducing your sugar consumption. Less emphasis is on foods such as rice, beans, oat, and wholegrain; because they contain complex carbohydrates, which release their sugars slowly during the digestion process thereby preventing a gush in insulin level.

Take carbohydrates with protein or fiber

When you take carbohydrate alone, it will be digested quickly and the sugars sent into your blood stream. To prevent this, always serve carbohydrates with protein, fat or fiber rich food. These other food contents will slow down the absorption of the sugar into the body. Read the label of what you buy carefully to make sure their sugar content is low.

Daily exercising is recommended

When you engage in rigorous exercise, your body uses up the excess glucose quickly to provide energy. This helps to keep the blood glucose level down. When the blood glucose level is down, less amount of insulin is released into the blood stream and less harm would be done. Taking a balanced diet alongside a good exercise regimen will have a far reaching effect.

Your nutritionist can give you food recommendations

Whole wheat crackers with peanut butter are a great food combination to try. Lots of fruits along with fat are also beneficial to the body. Getting this combinations right may be a little difficult and that is why you may need the services of a professional nutritionist. Your nutritionist should be able to point you in the right direction regarding what to eat.

Exercise can Improve the Quality of Life of Mesothelioma Patients

Read more Mesothelioma Cancer articles: http://j.mp/29Nv3es

The health benefits of rigorous physical exercise cannot be over emphasized. Exercise is currently recommended by health professionals for improved wellbeing of patients and for healthy individuals to prevent diseases. In the past, many health care professionals were oblivious on how exercise can improve the quality of life of cancer victims by labeling them as ‘too hard’.

Exercising can delay the manifestation of mesothelioma

It is a common knowledge that chronic and constant exposure to asbestos particles which have been rendered airborne by the rupture or damage of their parent material. When inhaled, these particles migrate to the lungs where they disrupt the normal cell division of the cells of the mesothelium. It has been recorded that the onset of this cancer is delayed in patients who are actively involved in aerobic exercise when compared to patients who have less than five hours of physical exercise a week.

Patients diagnosed of cancer are becoming happier because of exercise

Doctors are seeing better functions and higher quality life among cancer survivors who are actively exercising. Kathryn Schmitz, the lead author of the cancer recommendations highlighted the better functions and quality of life of cancer survivors. The success recorded among exercising patients have spurred other victims to give it a try. It is, however, recommended that you check with your doctor first before beginning an exercise routine.

American College of Sports Medicine has a guideline of exercise for cancer patients

The American College of Sports Medicine has recommended that patients going through cancer treatment should have 20 – 30 minutes of aerobic physical activity every day. The number of articles dictating that steady-state cardiovascular exercises tend to increase muscle mass is on the rise. A guideline of the appropriate exercises on particular cancer patients on the particular stage has been published with details of the exercises.

Exercise for cancer patients should be encompassing

The temptation will be high for cancer patients to focus only on the exercise that they love doing. This is not totally wrong but the effectiveness of an exercise regimen will depend largely on the diversity of the exercise carried out. Mesothelioma patients and survivors should not neglect the various other forms of training which can be highly beneficial to improving their cancer situation.

Resistance training caused a drop in fatigue

Mesothelioma victims are often overwhelmed by fatigue. A report in 2013 which was published by the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology showed that the amount of fatigue among cancer victims dropped during the time of the study as a result of the resistant training protocol. Strength training has also led to positive impact on functionality.

No single exercise is the ultimate

The basic function of exercise is to improve the rate at which blood is pumped round the body. Aerobic exercise helps the body to remove waste products that clog the blood vessels. There is no single exercise that will provide the body with all the benefits and this is why, exercises are used in combination.

Give yourself break from exercise

When planning your exercise regimen, there are prescribed days when your exercise will be heavy and days when your exercise will be light. Also, map out days when you will do absolutely nothing to give yourself time to recover. Different days should also have different exercises.

Be meticulous with your exercise plan

Doctors have recommended that healthy individuals, cancer survivors and those battling with the ailment should have a treatment plan. The fitness plan should have an underlying purpose which the person aims to achieve. The purpose should always be kept at the back of the mind as a motivation to help the individual stick with the plan.

Coping with Different Downsides of Mesothelioma

Read more Mesothelioma Cancer articles: http://j.mp/29Nv3es

Peritoneal mesothelioma is the most common form of the three types of mesothelioma although every type of cancer has its own downsides. Irrespective of the form of mesothelioma one has been diagnosed with, having in mind that there is no cure for cancer always leads to some psychological trauma. Oftentimes, the patient will have more trouble to battle with besides accepting the diagnosis. A few other downsides of mesothelioma the patient has to cope with are as follows:

1. Patients need support to cope with the rigorous treatment procedure

Cancer treatment often requires a rigorous chemotherapy or radiation therapy to contain. When the tumor is large or causes obstruction to the flow of blood and other organ functions, surgery may have to be employed to remove it or cut it down to size. Patients going through mesothelioma treatment would need support from family and friends to cope with the procedure.

2. Patients need to understand the changes in their body

Patients will have to deal with the transformation their body will go through within a short period of time. Some of these transformations will arise as a result of the progression of cancer and will include pain and fatigue. Other noticeable changes will arise from the side effect of the chemotherapy or radiation therapy treatment.

3. It is hard for patients to cope when they are deserted by their doctors

A patient may get used to a doctor’s expertise because they have been there from the point of diagnosis and probably helped them to get over some of the symptoms. It becomes really difficult for them when they learn that their doctor has been transferred or left the hospital. A patient once confirmed that the most difficult part was losing the specialist they trust.

Only a few doctors know about peritoneal cancer

There are not many oncologists around. Coming in contact with an oncologist who knows much about peritoneal cancer is even more difficult because this is a rare form of cancer. More than one session of radiation therapy may be required to finally contain the spread of the disease.

A good physician will be ready to fight with you till the end

Kasie Coleman narrated how she was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma. In her story she admitted that it was Dr. Samuel Bieligk of the Cancer treatment Center of America who had a great deal of experience in peritoneal cancer. He played one of the major roles in her treatment procedure and ultimate recovery. A good physician leaves no stone unturned to fight against the disease.

Kasie Coleman was a fighter

Unlike many peritoneal mesothelioma victims would reside to fate, Kasie was ready to fight for her life and Dr. Bieligk saw this in her. According to Cassie, it was a great delight that someone was willing to fight with her and it increased her zeal to keep fighting.

Three Heated Intraperitoneal chemoperfusion (HIPEC) was required

When Kasie was diagnosed with mesothelioma, Dr. Bieligk suggested a Heated Intraperitoneal chemoperfusion procedure. The procedure was effective in bringing her some relief but before long, the cancer was growing again. Within two years, she had undergone several chemotherapies and had one more Heated Intraperitoneal chemoperfusion procedure. The third became necessary when cancer continued to progress and overwhelm her body.

It is possible to survive mesothelioma

While still at the Cancer treatment Center of America, Kasie received a letter that Dr. Bieligk has left the faculty but that she would be paired with another specialist. According to her, this was the most trying moment. Kasie continued her treatment and is now a survivor. She owns a cupcake bakery in Louisiana, Baton Rouge to be precise.

Legal Rights and Limitations of Families with Mesothelioma Victim

Read more Mesothelioma Cancer articles: http://j.mp/29Nv3es

The financial burden of treatment of mesothelioma victims will ultimately fall back on the family of the victim. If the loved one dies in the process of treatment, more financial debt, loss of income and funeral expenses will arise. Mesothelioma is associated with asbestos exposure but what legal rights do the other members of the family have who have not been exposed?

Claims on asbestos are not limited to the exposed

Those who have lost their loved ones or a family member to mesothelioma or asbestos-related conditions can stand in as plaintiffs if their loved ones filed a lawsuit and the case was unresolved before their death. On the other hand, families can file a separate lawsuit on wrongful death and hope to get some monetary claims for their emotional torture.

McCarthy and Koczur families are examples of successful resolution of mesothelioma

Eugene McCarthy worked as a steamfitter and Walter Koczur as a mechanic and they were both exposed to asbestos as a result of asbestos-laced gasket manufactured by Goodyear Tire and Rubber and Goodyear Canada. They died of asbestos-linked cancer in 1997 and 1998. Their families filed a lawsuit shortly after. A court in New York City awarded $22 million in combination to both families because at a point similar cases were merged together irrespective of the fact that they were filled differently.

The success of the cases was due to the findings of the jury

Personal injury cases are hard to come to a conclusion unless substantial evidence showing neglect is presented. In the case of the McCarthy and Koczur families, both men were smokers (we all know that smoking is also linked to lung cancer) and they died of lung cancer. However, the jury was able to discover that exposure to asbestos was the partial cause of cancer that led to their death.

There are other families that were not so lucky

Mr. Clineff complained of chest cold before he died. An autopsy revealed that he died from cancer. The children assumed it must have been related to his history of smoking. His death certificate further elaborated the reason for his death as metastatic malignant mesothelioma. Mr. Clineff’s son learned from his father’s co-worker nine years later that several people who worked at the same place with his dad developed asbestos related diseases. The family filed a lawsuit in 2008 but it was too late.

Mr. Clineff’s children were restricted by the statute of limitation

According to the court in Delaware that heard the lawsuit, the statute of limitation had already begun to count as of 1997 when the family saw the death certificate. The family was not aware that asbestos could cause cancer and the court admonished that they should have made attempts to know the cause of their father’s death rather than assuming it was smoking. Like it is said in the court of law, ignorance is no defense.

Statute of limitation is a timeframe for a lawsuit to be filed

The statute of limitation under the personal injury legal sphere is that period within which an injured can file a lawsuit to address the situation. The statute of limitation varies among cases and states. It is important for the victim to file the case with the advice of the lawyer who can suggest the appropriate time that suits the case.

It is important to seek legal advice in the case of injury or death

Mr. Clineff’s case is an eye opener of how important it is to seek legal advice if the cause of the death of a loved one is not clear. McCarthy and Koczur families acted early and got the case resolved in their favor. Acting early is the key to beating the statute of limitation.

A Growing Access for Cancer Patients to Seeking Support

Read more Mesothelioma Cancer articles: http://j.mp/29Nv3es

Being handed a cancer diagnosis is like taking a trip to a lonely planet. The psychological trauma can equal or exceed the physical pain the patient goes through. So many people have made varying attempts to show their support for victims of cancer and some time ago, Karen Marshall, a legal blogger wrote a post he captioned ‘Picking Your Support Team’.

Supporting cancer victims can make all the difference

The primary duty of a support team should be that of providing care and information to those battling for their life with cancer. Having people who are willing to fight with you as a cancer patient is important to every cancer patient to enable them to fight off the psychological trauma associated with the condition.

Religious organizations used to be the leading source of support

Many of the religions believe that there is life beyond the current one. Prayer sessions and frequent visits from members of religious associations will help to drive away the feeling of depression and isolation while giving the victims a reason to keep up the struggle.

Family is the greatest source of support to cancer patients

Unless the cancer victim is not in good terms with their families, the family is usually the greatest source of support to those suffering from cancer. They will often handle the treatment bills and provide the patient with the information on how to improve the quality of their lives.

Support will help the cancer patient cope with the rigorous treatment procedure

The treatment options currently available for cancer (chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery) are very tedious. Often, patients will have to go through more than one session of treatment and a combination of treatments. A survey revealed that most mesothelioma patients are further exhausted by the treatment procedure. Having someone nudging them on always makes the difference.

Digital support for cancer patients is on the increase

The globalization of the world through computers and the power of the internet have made a remarkable difference to the lives of those living with mesothelioma. Cancer patients often resort to social media such as Facebook to seek support by linking up with people undergoing through similar challenges. For example, there are groups on Facebook dedicated to cancer patients where they come together to motivate each other.

There is a new digital support inspired by someone who was a victim of cancer

The inspiration to create a website, IHadCancer.com, struck Mailet Lopez after she was treated for type 2B breast cancer. Having gone through the feeling of isolation and confusion associated with cancer diagnoses, she looked for a way to link up those going through a similar situation to motivate each other and provide the information that will wipe out the confusion faced by those that are newly diagnosed.

IHadCancer.com is providing a social support to cancer victims

The website is a conglomeration of survivors, fighters, and supporters. It gives its members the power to filter their search by location, diagnosis, and age. This has made it easier for cancer victims to find close by victims who they can interact with or people of similar ages whose stories would better motivate them.

Sharing stories helps to ease the burden

Relief from anger or depression comes when people are given an avenue to pour out their heart. This is probably why IHadCancer.com has a built-in blog section where members can share their stories. A new section was added to the website. ‘Dear Cancer’, which allows victims to write a letter to cancer.

Mesothelioma has been reported more among those in the military and those in blue-collar professions. However, mesothelioma has been felt by the low and mighty alike across various other professions that should have been less likely. Reading the stories of these famous people can be a source of motivation to those battling with the ailment.

Mesothelioma is diagnosed among three thousand Americans

Cancer comes in different forms and would mostly take after the name of the part of the body they affect. Mesothelioma is among the rare forms of cancer with an estimated 3000 new diagnosis per annum. Exposure to asbestos has been identified as the common link between all the patients of mesothelioma.

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral

Asbestos fibers have been exploited in various industries including the automobile industries, in construction industries as roofing materials and sparsely in paint industries. This naturally occurring mineral is toxic and is released into the air to be inhaled when the material in which it is contained ruptures.

Mesothelioma has a long latency period

The manifestation of mesothelioma takes between fifteen and fifty years after exposure. The initial symptoms usually resemble those of common respiratory infections which are subjected to misdiagnosis. The majority of the cases are discovered among patients in their late fifties and above. Some of the most famous people that have battled mesothelioma are listed below.

1. Joe Sample (1939 – 2014)

Joe was born in Houston but made a name as a jazz musician. He was famous for redefining the boundary of jazz music by infusing it with influences of soul sound and blues. He went solo after his initial band Crusaders disbanded and worked with performers like Steely Dan, Jimmy Witherspoon, Eric Clapton and so on. He died of mesothelioma cancer at the age of 75 although his family did not report in detail about how he developed this asbestos based cancer.

2. Ed Lauter (1938 – 2013)

Lauter played mostly supporting role throughout his forty years reign in the television and film industry. He was diagnosed of pleural mesothelioma in 2013 and died in less than six months later. He has featured in more than two hundred movies where he played a variety of roles. He was most popular for his roles in crime movies.

3. Terry McCann (1934 – 2006)

Terry worked for two years in an oil refinery in Tulsa, Oklahoma, before he won a gold medal in the 1960 Olympics. It was there that he was exposed to a deadly dose of asbestos fibers. Forty years after the Olympics, he took up jobs as a career coach and also had a stint with fitness business. When he was later diagnosed with mesothelioma, he spoke out against the corporation producing the toxic product.

4. Warren Zevon (1947 – 2003)

‘Werewolves of London’, and ‘Lawyers, Guns and Money’ are some of the songs that brought Warren to the limelight. Soon after he was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2002, he produced his last album titled ‘The Wind’. He worked with legendary musicians and songwriters like himself and his son has been chairing the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO).

5. Sean Sasser (1968 – 2013)

Sasser with the help of Pedro Zamora helped erase the cultural barriers in America. He became famous running a program on television for MTV. He was the first gay and HIV-positive couple to openly declare his status on television. But, he was diagnosed of mesothelioma which is mainly the cause of his death. According to the medical report about his cancer growth, chronic immune-suppression enhances susceptibility to mesothelioma.

6. Admiral Elmo ZumwaltJr (1920 – 2000)

He was a highly decorated veteran and the youngest to serve as U.S Chief of Naval Operations. His exposure to asbestos was believed to be during his career in the Navy because the ships were often loaded with toxic substances. His son also died from cancer at the age of 42.

Significance of Communication between Attorney and Client in a Mesothelioma Case

Read more Mesothelioma Cancer articles: http://j.mp/29Nv3es

It is always emphasized that mesothelioma victims should go for very good attorneys with a track record in mesothelioma case handling. No matter how experienced the attorney is, they will never have a good client relationship if there is a communication gap between them. Hence, the client may not be properly represented.

Access the ease of communication between you and an attorney before hiring

While considering which attorney to hire to stand in for your mesothelioma case, always make sure you hire one that you can easily approach and talk to. If you do not feel comfortable talking with an attorney or they are not always disposed of you to talk to them, you should not bother hiring them in the first place.

You can determine the qualification of a lawyer by communicating with them

An attorney who is highly knowledgeable in his field will unconsciously radiate the knowledge and use terms relating to the field whenever you are communicating with them. Their choice of words and grammatical construct alone will have a great role to play in the court when they stand to convince the judge. There are some questions you need to ask your attorney on your first meeting. They are listed below:

1. Which type of cases takes more of your concentration?

Finding an attorney who concentrates more on asbestos litigation is a plus to your lawsuit because they are highly knowledgeable about the intricacies of the case. Also, they have the expertise on how to investigate the client’s asbestos exposure history which is the key to tracking asbestos manufacturers.

2. What percentage of mesothelioma cases do you address per annum?

It may not be easy to find a lawyer that deals with only asbestos litigation, but if the majority of their clients are those filing for mesothelioma, it is an indication that they are experienced and very familiar with the case. Some lawyers will only accept to represent those filing an asbestos lawsuit without having any sign of asbestos-related illness themselves.

Claims by people who are not sick are limiting the fund available for sick people

Some states have made it a law that plaintiffs who are not ill will be restricted from seeking a certain fraction of the money. This was a response to the outcry of critics who pointed out that giving out claims to those with an asbestos exposure that are not ill is depleting what is left in the reserve to take care of those who are ill.

Mesothelioma lawyers will help you bypass the new law

Lawyers who have good experience with mesothelioma know that the life expectancy of those who have been diagnosed is short. They also know that the prognosis is poor because of the way it can easily be mistaken for other infections. These and more points they will use to back up your claim to show that it is valid.

3. Ask them to describe their experience

Here, you can ask them to point out the number of cases they have successfully completed, you can also ask them about their most trial moments and the cases that challenged them the most. These questions which are directed to legal issues will also help you determine the level of communication of the attorney.

4. Possibility of filing your case in another state

If it seems appropriate, it is the duty of your mesothelioma attorney to file your case in another state. He/she will be your eyes and ears without having any need to travel.
