Written by Pat Hawkins

Dedication

I would like to dedicate Mary’s Not a Virgin Anymore to my husband, Gerald and our two sons, Aaron and Alexander. Gerald, we have been through many, many things and praise God, we are still standing. I praise God for you each and every day. I thank God that you are an awesome husband, father and best friend. Aaron and Alex, I enjoy being your mother and I thank God daily for blessing me with the two of you. Both of you are a very special part of my life. And although Miss Ossie Collins is no longer with us, I want to thank her for everything she has done for me. If it were not for her, I would not be the wife, mother and person I am today. Mom, I miss you, our talks and your wisdom. But I thank God for the years I did have to sit under your guidance and your excellent spirit…

Forward

This book is not intended to attack anyone or any religion. However, it is a tool to enlighten those who have been taught traditions on the life of the “Virgin Mary”. There are many belief systems in the world today. Although much has been written about Mary, there are many misconceptions about her. There are many beliefs and traditions. However, what is the truth? How do we find the truth? The truth is there; only we must search for it. That brings us to the purpose of this book. Using the Holy Bible, we will biblically prove why the title of “Virgin Mary” is no longer adequate for Mary. This is not being disrespectful; nor am I denouncing the virgin birth. She is the mother of Jesus. As a born again Christian, by faith, I believe the Word of God. Therefore, I believe in the virgin birth. It is the virgin birth of Jesus that makes Him different. And God has a reason for doing it that way. We will explore those reasons as well. Because of her faith, Mary was able to do the impossible in the natural. Through Mary, Jesus came into this world and gave mankind the access to the creator of Heaven and Earth. This book will contradict many traditions that have plagued the church for over 2,000 years. But with the Bible, the Word of God, we can clear them up quickly. Please have a Bible handy. It doesn’t matter which version. You need to see the written Word for yourself. If you don’t have access to a Bible, go online. WARNING: This book will challenge your tradition but the book of all books, The Bible, will replace tradition with the truth.

Why the Virgin Birth?

It Started with Adam and Eve

To answer this question, we must go back to the Garden of Eden. Most of us think we know the story with Adam, Eve and the serpent. However, there is more to it than meets the eye. And the more you study the Word of God you will find this is true for the Bible itself. There is constant revelation knowledge in the Word of God. Meaning the Word of God is constantly teaching and revealing things to the one who will spend time in it. From my own experience, I can read and know a verse for twenty years and one day, twenty years later, see something I never saw before.

Eve Did Not Give Adam an Apple

We know or have heard how Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate of the one tree He had asked them not too. And for the record, Eve did not eat an apple. We do not know what type of fruit they ate because the Bible does not tell us.

Genesis 2:16-17:

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest there of thou shalt surely die.

These verses never mention an apple. As far as we know, it could have been a tree with mangos, bananas or pears. We simply do not know what type of fruit was eaten. The Bible doesn’t mention it because it does not matter what they ate. The outcome would still be the same. Adam committed high treason against God through his disobedience. Adam had a free will and willfully chose to disobey God. Because of his disobedience, he died spiritually. And that has impacted the whole human race.

God Can’t Make You

God told Adam not to eat the fruit from one certain tree. Therefore, Adam was given free will to choose to obey God or disobey. God did not make Adam do anything because he would have violated Adam’s free will. Neither God nor the devil can make you do anything either. People use that excuse but it’s not true. Human beings have free will to choose right from wrong. We can learn to make right choices. The Bible influences and helps us to make the right choice because it tells us God’s way of doing things. The devil will try to tempt you to do wrong. But it’s your will that matters. Both God and Satan can only suggest; you make the decision to do good or evil.

Jesus is the Last Adam

Now there are many lessons that can be learned with Adam and Eve. However, where do Mary and Jesus come in? God already had a plan because He knew Adam would mess up. God the Father was speaking to Satan in the garden about His plan in the following verse.

Genesis 3:15 says: He will crush your head and you will strike his heel. (NIV)

This is referring to the crucifixion of Jesus on the cross which is where Jesus defeated Satan. God’s plan for redeeming mankind was Jesus. The following scripture tells us Jesus is called the last Adam.

I Corinthians 15:45: And so it is written, the first man Adam was made a living soul; The last Adam was made a life giving spirit.

God needed someone pure as Adam. You see, Adam came from the earth. But when he committed high treason and transferred dominion to Satan in the garden, the earth became contaminated. So God could not start over and make another Adam like the first. According to 1 Corinthians 15:47, “the second man is the Lord from heaven”. That would be Jesus. The second Adam, Jesus, was God’s plan mentioned in the Garden of Eden to redeem man, but through a woman (Genesis 3:15). This is how the last Adam [Jesus] would receive flesh and blood.

Why Joseph Could Not Be Jesus’ Father….Jesus needed a body to come into the earth realm through the birth process. Mary gave him flesh, but the Holy Spirit gave Jesus His sinless nature. If any man were Jesus’ father, Jesus would have the same blood line as Adam and needed a Savior Himself. Now keep an open mind. If God created the universe, galaxies and planets, not to mention a man from dirt and a woman from his rib, certainly He can create a child in a woman without help from a man. Scientists do it in labs every day. So is that so hard for God? The Holy Spirit did not have to do anything weird. God creates things into existence by speaking. The book of Genesis starts off with “And God said”. In the first chapter of Genesis, you will find this phrase ten times. Hebrews 11:3 tells us the worlds were framed by the Word of God. When God speaks, it is so. God can not lie according to Numbers 23:19. Therefore God can only tell the truth. Mary was able to receive supernaturally by faith or refuse because of doubt with her words also.

John 1:1 tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. Read that scripture again and substitute Word for Jesus. Therefore, Jesus was here in the beginning and was with God. John 1:14 says, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth”. Jesus was the Word in the flesh. See why the Word of God is so important? God and His Word are the same. In Mark 10:27, Jesus said, “With men it is impossible but not with God, for with God all things are possible”. That leaves no room for discussion when He used the words all and nothing. Stop trying to figure out how. I do not know how the sun rises in the east and sets in the west every day. Man can not duplicate that. God does it daily and has been doing it with the same sun for millions of years. A lot of people get hung up on the things of God because they are unable to figure it out. If Joseph or any other man were the biological father of Jesus, Jesus Himself would have needed a Savior. The virgin birth separates Jesus from all the rest. Jesus came into the world, legally, through a woman and was God and man.

Galatians 4:4: But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his son made of a woman, made under the law.

Chapter II – Mary Had Faith in God’s Word

Mary Knew God’s Word

Little is written about Mary in the Bible. However, prophets spoke of the virgin birth centuries before Mary was born. No one knew when or who, but throughout the ages, the story was told of a virgin giving birth to the Messiah. Because God had said it, the prophecy had no choice but to come to pass. The Bible tells us Mary was a very young Jewish girl engaged to be married. We also know that Mary was a virgin and she lived in Galilee.

Luke 1:26-27: And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

Mary had to be a person of faith. We can tell by her answer to the angel Gabriel when he told her she would conceive Jesus although she had never known or had sex with a man. Let’s see what Mary said.

Luke 1:38: And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word

According to Thy Word

Mary knew the prophecy of the Messiah. Now here was an angel telling her that she was the one chosen to bring this precious gift into the world. She had to be a person of faith. How else could she do what no one else had done before? Mary asked the angel Gabriel how she could conceive a child without a man (vs. 34). After Gabriel answered her, he told Mary of another miraculous pregnancy (vs. 36). Mary’s barren cousin, Elisabeth, was in her sixth month of pregnancy in her old age with John the Baptist. The ball was now in Mary’s court. Her words would determine whether she would be the mother of Jesus. Praise God she answered with faith filled words and with those words, the angel Gabriel departed from her. However, God didn’t force Mary to do anything. All Mary knew was an angel of the Lord was telling her she was the one chosen to bring the Messiah into the world. In Luke 1:38, Mary said, “Be it unto me according to thy Word”. That is spiritual maturity, God said it and that settles it. It does not matter what it looks like or how you feel. We can know what He said by looking His Word. We receive from God by saying what His Word says. Mary supernaturally conceived because she took God at His Word. This is called faith. One of my favorite scriptures is Luke 1:37,For with God nothing shall be impossible”. Those words were said to Mary by the angel Gabriel. If you are a born again Christian, this is a great scripture for your arsenal. It’s not just for Mary. God is calling for you to step out, trust Him and do the impossible. He’s calling the ordinary to believe Him and do the extraordinary. Who do we trust? What do we believe? We are to trust and believe God’s Word. Because when you trust His Word, you trust God. For many people, this is hard to fathom because again they cannot figure it out with their finite minds. If they cannot explain or justify something, to them it’s not plausible. For many, the virgin birth falls into this category and they get hung up on it. This is what we call a miracle. According to Webster’s Dictionary, a miracle is defined as an action or event that contradicts scientific laws and is considered to be an act of God. The virgin birth is obviously considered a miracle. This event is still being debated today. However, for a Christian, there is no debate. God said in His Word Jesus was conceived by a virgin and that settles it. We take God at His Word. God was not Mary’s husband in order to conceive Jesus. (Yes there are those who believe that one). God creates with Words and Jesus was the Word made flesh. Notice Matthew 1:18 says Mary was pregnant before she and Joseph came together.

Matthew 1:18: Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place under these circumstances: When His mother Mary had been promised in marriage to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be pregnant [through the power] of the Holy Spirit. [Amplified]

The Bible tells us Mary left quickly to go see her pregnant cousin Elisabeth (Luke 1:39). When Mary reached Elisabeth’s house, she was pregnant. Elisabeth’s baby leaped in her womb when she greeted Mary (Luke 1:40-43). Mary remained with Elisabeth for three months (Luke 1:56). Elisabeth’s son, John the Baptist, was a harbinger for Jesus. However, Elisabeth’s pregnancy in her old age was a blessing for Mary also. Both had miraculous pregnancies at the same time, and the same angel, Gabriel, had paid a visit to Elisabeth’s husband, Zacharias. Everything the angel Gabriel had said so far had come to pass. Conceiving the Messiah was the easy part. When she returned, Mary still had to tell her fiancé Joseph. Just imagine being a young Mary and having to tell your fiancé you’re pregnant by the Holy Ghost.

Chapter III Joseph Married a Pregnant Mary

Joseph Has a Dream

Telling Joseph about the pregnancy was not an easy thing for Mary to do. I’m sure it wasn’t easy for Joseph to hear. We know Joseph loved and cared for her because he wanted to put Mary away privately instead of making a public spectacle of her. Joseph, however, was reassured in a dream that Mary was telling the truth.

Matthew 1:20: But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

Joseph married Mary and took on the responsibility of raising the Son of God. However, Mary was a flesh and blood parent and Joseph was Jesus’ foster parent. What an honor to be chosen for such an awesome task; however, it was not an easy one. People were aware of when Joseph and Mary were married and when she was due to give birth. Although God used angels and a dream in this instance, do not look for visitations of angels or depend on dreams. God has given us His Word and we call it the Bible. To walk by faith we must stand on the Word of God otherwise it will not be faith. Now I’m not saying you can’t receive a visitation from an angel or have a dream; I am saying not to depend on them because this is not faith. Later in the book, we will discuss what faith is.

Virgin Is Not a Dirty Word

Be Like Mary

It’s amazing how so many people reverence Mary but ignore the reasons why she was chosen by God. Now mind you, God can use anyone. However, God was not going to let His son come through just anybody living any old kind of way. Many people today strive to be like a celebrity or an athlete. What if men and women, boys and girls strived to be more like Mary who is reverenced by so many around the world? Most people reverence Mary because of the virgin birth and her so called perpetual virginity. It’s strange that most people have added the word virgin to the dirty word list. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if people would think more highly of themselves? If they only knew how God sees them, they wouldn’t be so quick to give it up. If that ship has sailed, it’s not too late. God is a forgiving God. He doesn’t expect us to do what we do not know. Some people do not know it’s wrong. Others know but don’t care. The Bible even speaks of a prostitute in Jericho named Rahab who was willing to change because she heard of the mighty things God had done (Joshua 2:10, 11). In verse 11, Rahab confessed the Lord as the God in heaven above, and in earth beneath. Because of her willingness to help the children of Israel and receive their God, her life and the lives of her family were saved during the invasion of the city of Jericho. Rahab says something awesome in Joshua 2:21, “According unto your words, so be it”. Rahab also received by faith because she believed God and said so in verse nine. Although Mary and Rahab’s disposition in life are completely opposite, they both spoke similar faith-filled words, “according to thy word”. It pleases God when we take Him at His Word. It is our faith that causes God to move on our behalf. Although Rahab was a prostitute, God didn’t dismiss her. She is mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1:5. Hebrews 11:31 speaks of Rahab’s faith. Her good works are mentioned in James 2:25. This does not give the green light to be a prostitute. However, it does tell us God is a forgiving God and He is for whoever will believe and follow Him. Rahab proves it’s never too late to change. Rahab became sold out to God. According to Matthew 18:11, Jesus came to save that which is lost. Jesus did not come to earth and die a horrible death on the cross for people who are perfect, beautiful and have no faults. He came for “whoever” would believe in Him (John 3:16). The Bible is full of people with many great qualities to emulate. It also contains information to live by daily. Some didn’t start out good but finished well such as Rahab. Some started out well and finished badly such as Samson (Judges 16:21). Mary and Joseph started well and finished well. However, it was not without obstacles. Once Mary got over the hurdle of telling Joseph, you would think all would be a breeze. After all, Mary was carrying the Son of God. Wrong!

Chapter V – We’ve Got To Go Where and Do What?

The Not So Cute Christmas Story

When reading the Christmas story, you should take time and think about what Mary and Joseph endured. In chapter two of Luke, the Roman government issued a mandatory census for everyone which required every citizen to make his way to his own home town to be registered. There were no exceptions including for Joseph and a very pregnant Mary. We know this because the Bible tells us she was great with child. This meant a sixty to seventy mile road trip from Nazareth to the city of Bethlehem. Mary and Joseph had to have some mode of transportation. The average transportation of the day was a donkey, horse or camel. Out of the three, the donkey is the best choice. You can use your imagination especially if you’ve been nine months pregnant or you know of someone who has been very pregnant. I’m sure it wasn’t easy getting Mary on that donkey either. Joseph had to stay close to her so she wouldn’t fall and walking that distance wasn’t easy on Joseph either. Tradition tells us Joseph walked all the way to Bethlehem. None the less, Joseph and Mary obeyed the law and made the trip. This is some of what they endured a little over two thousand years ago. This was not an easy trip. Even God’s chosen did not have a walk in the park although they were bringing an important gift into the world, the Messiah. The Bible tells us there was no room at the inn. After the long trip, they had nowhere to stay except in a stable with smelly animals. How many moms-to-be would like to experience that? The Bible doesn’t say, but I’m sure Joseph and Mary had their doubts. After the baby Jesus was born, the angels of God announced the birth of Jesus to some shepherds who went to see and worship the Christ child. Please note, the wise men were not present the night Jesus was born according to scripture (Luke 2:8-20). The shepherds were reassuring to the couple since they had already endured quite a bit of hardship. The wise men enter the picture almost two years later. When the wise men found Jesus, Mary and Joseph, He was a Child. If you read chapter two of Matthew, it does tell us how many wise men came to see Jesus. We can estimate there were two or more men. However, the exact number of men present is unknown. The Bible does not say. There could have been three, three hundred, more or less. Because the Bible mentions the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh, people have assumed there were three men. I only know there were at least two. The actual number of wise men is unknown. Matthew 2:11 tells us the wise men went into a “house” and saw the “Child”. When the wise men found Jesus, He was no longer a baby and was living in a house. There is a difference between and baby and a child. There is no biblical proof the wise men saw Jesus as a baby. According to the Bible, the wise men were never present the night He was born. God had given Mary and Joseph a major task and it was not without controversy nor was it easy. Even after the birth of Jesus, Joseph was directed by God not to take Mary and Jesus back to Galilee. Herod the King wanted the child dead. Herod decided if he killed all the male children two years and younger, he would kill the Christ child. Like Joseph and Mary, we too can believe God to see us through the hard times. Hard times will come. Jesus Himself said, “In this life you will have tribulation [trouble], but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world(John 16:33). Psalms 34:17 tells us God has promised to deliver His people from all trouble and in Psalms 34:19, He has promised to deliver His children out of all afflictions. He never said you would not have any trouble. But when trouble comes, remind Him and thank Him for what He has promised you.

Even with the many obstacles Mary and Joseph faced, God’s plan to bring Jesus into this world came to pass. However, if we study the scriptures and let that Word get into us, we will learn to be strong during time of trials. And we believe God to go through the trial and come out winners. Regardless of the circumstances they faced, God was on Mary, Joseph and Jesus’ side. If you’re in the family of God, He’s on your side too. It may not look like He is. However, things are not always as they seem. Mary and Joseph had to endure and we will have to endure also. We will also see victory if we don’t cave in and quit.

Satan’s Plan or God’s Plan – Your Choice

God has called us all to do something. Maybe it’s raising a hard headed child or a child with special needs. Anointed parents can raise a “special needs” child into a normal, above average adult. Maybe it’s starting a business. It could be an invention that will be life saving for millions. God’s will is not for His children to be sick, poor and living in lack. I can’t do much for God or anyone else if I’m sick and broke. Whatever it is, God has a plan for your life and he has invested in your success. That investment was Jesus Christ. Jeremiah 29:11 in the Amplified says, “For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.” We are not accidents. We are a part of God’s divine plan. I quote that scripture often everyday. My birth date appears on the clock twice a day. And when I see it, I remind God of what He has said in Jeremiah 29:11, and I thank Him everyday for the plan He has for my life. At the time I’m writing this, it doesn’t look like much of a plan to say the least. But I believe His Word by faith. I take God at His Word. If it wasn’t true, He should not have put it in the Bible for me to see it. I believe to have a testimony and not a test and just the monies. Satan also has a plan for your life and he does not want God’s plan to come to pass. Satan will fight you tooth and nail to keep God’s plan from coming to pass in your life. But if you stay consistent through the storms of life by trusting and seeking God, His plan will come to fruition in your life. My mother use to tell me “storms don’t last always”. Notice hurricanes are not constant and fizzle out regardless of how strong their winds. No one said it would be easy. The system has been set up for you to fail. However, once you’re in the family of God, you’re under a different system. Satan wants you to fail. God wants you to win! Joshua 1:8 tells us not to let the Word of God depart from out of our mouth. Keep saying what God says day and night and do what is written in the Word of God. Then we will have good success. That tells me I have a lot to do with my success or failure. It also tells me not all success is good. There must be some bad success as well. God wants you to be successful and have good success. It’s important to watch your words because with your mouth you choose your destiny. According to the Word of God, you can have what you say (Mark 11:23). We release our faith by saying.

God Wants You to Have Victory Too

If you are a believer, learn to confess the Word of God daily. Say what God says about you and your situation regardless of what it looks like. Most people confess the negative or what they have. Instead confess Jesus is Lord, not your circumstances. If you are breathing, trouble will come but trouble doesn’t have to overcome. The Bible tells us we are overcomers and God always causes us to triumph in Christ (II Corinthians 2:14). Therefore, develop the mindset of an overcomer. For example, when you get on an elevator you punch the button for the floor you want to go to because you want to change floors. I remember getting on an elevator at work and wanting to go the third floor, but I hit one by mistake. The elevator would not move. Why should it when I was already there. But to get different results, I needed to change the button I pushed. I wanted to go to the third floor. Until I pushed the button for a floor other than the first floor, the elevator would not budge. It is the same with our words. We should be saying what we want to see not how it looks. The Bible tells us in Romans 4:17 to call things that be not as though they were. In other words, if what you have is not what you want, start calling it the way you would like to see it. If my dog Sparky is right next to me, why would I call the dog? However, if I want my dog to come to me, I would call Sparky. If you want favor, call it. If you want healing, call it. If you want a mate, call them in through prayer and confession. Find the answer in scripture and that is what you say. I got married by faith. According to the statistics of the day, women my age and color would most likely not marry. However, I found scripture that said otherwise. I took God at His Word and not the statistics. Everyday I would thank God for my mate wherever he was. Before I left home in the morning to go to work, I would say, “Today could be the day I meet my husband”. I went to many wedding showers and baby showers. I prayed for other’s happy marriages and families and continued to believe mine was on the way. I even made a list of the top ten things I was looking for in a husband. (To my surprise my husband also had a list and we later compared them. They were quite similar). After a little over two years of confessing it, manifestation came to pass. A young man that passed by daily and spoke during our lunch break stopped one day. I should note that I was studying my Sunday school lesson in my car under a nice shady tree in the humid July heat during my lunch break in a Kennedy Space Center parking lot. He introduced himself and we got married four months later. When we experience the victory, it gives God the glory and increases our faith. Once you start getting victories under your belt, you become sold out to God. When others see your impossible situation turn around in your favor, it gets their attention.

[+ Chapter VI -Mary Did Not Remain a Virgin +]

Mary Had More Children

Contrary to popular belief, Mary was not a perpetual virgin. If we search the Bible, we find biblical proof Mary did not remain a virgin. The following scriptures will prove Mary had several more children. Jesus was not the only child Mary gave birth to. However, He was the only child conceived by God and not by man. Jesus’ birth was a virgin birth.

Mark 3:31-35: There came then his brethren and his mother, and standing without, sent unto him, calling him. And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy Mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brothers. For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

In this chapter, Jesus was having a discussion with some scribes that were accusing Jesus of being the devil because He was casting out demons (Mark 3:22, 23). That’s dumb, why would the devil be casting out demons? If Jesus was the devil, wouldn’t he be recruiting? While He was having this discussion, the crowd sitting around Jesus told Him His mother and brothers were looking for Him. Now some have said that they were His cousins’ not actual brothers. However, the Bible differentiates between the two terms. Luke 1:36 mentions the term cousin. John the Baptist was Jesus’ cousin. John the Baptist’s mother, Elisabeth, was Mary’s cousin. The people described in Mark 3:31-35 were his half brothers because Jesus’ mother Mary was their mother too. In Mark 6:3 we learn more about the immediate family of Jesus.”Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him”.

This verse gives us names of His four brothers. It also tells us Jesus had sisters. However, it does not give us the names of His sisters. Because the Bible says sisters, there had to be at least two girls. So Mary had a minimum of seven children. Yes, scripture proves Jesus had both brothers and sisters because Mary gave birth to them also. These brothers and sisters were conceived the usual way. Mary was their mother and they came into the earth the regular way. This is more biblical proof that Mary did not remain a virgin. Joseph Knew Mary For many people, it’s unthinkable that Mary did not stay a virgin. However, Joseph knew Mary eventually. The word knew has a biblical definition which is much different from the meaning we have today. According to Webster’s New World Dictionary, the words knew or know in the King James Version means to have sexual intercourse with. Again, the Word of God proves Mary did not remain a virgin all of her life.

Matthew 1:25 say, And [Joseph] knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus. [King James Version]

Matthew 1:25 tells us Joseph did not know Mary until after she gave birth to Jesus. If we take a look at this same verse in the Amplified translation, they tell us Joseph had no union with Mary as her husband until after Jesus was born. After the birth of Jesus, Joseph and Mary were sexually intimate with each other which resulted in Jesus’ brothers and sisters.

Matthew 1:25: But he had no union with her as her husband until she had borne her firstborn Son; and he called His name Jesus. [Amplified Version]

Some try to explain away the word “till” or the word “until”. God does not make things hard. He wants you to know the truth. Joseph knew that he and Mary were chosen in that particular season to bring forth the Christ child. However, he was also Mary’s husband.

Mary’s Firstborn Son

If we look again at Matthew 1:25, it tells us Jesus was Mary’s firstborn son. A firstborn indicates a woman who has more than one child and there is at least a second child born. Otherwise, an only child would suffice. This does not take anything away from Mary. However, people have been taught that Mary remained a virgin. This is not biblical. Many have worshipped and revered Mary for this very reason. The plan God had for Mary’s life included the seemingly impossible and the unimaginable. First she conceived supernaturally and had a virgin birth. Then she had to watch Him die a gruesome death on the cross for mankind. Mary only had Him for a short period of time. His Heavenly Father had sent Him into the earth for one reason – redeem mankind.

Mary and Joseph Were Legal

For nine months, Mary was literally the Virgin Mary. However, she did not remain a virgin all of her life as we are led to believe. Studying the Bible, we have many scriptures that tell us Mary had other children the regular way. Therefore, Mary had sex. I repeat Mary had sex. There is nothing dirty about it. God created it in the beginning and said, “Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth…” (Genesis 1:28). Mary was a married woman and she had the legal right according to the Word of God. Hebrews 13:4 says, “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled…”

It’s amazing how people consider it okay to have sex before marriage, but detest the fact that Mary, who was legally married to Joseph, was having sex with her husband. There was nothing sinful about Mary and Joseph having sex after Jesus was born. There was nothing wrong with them having a family. After all, that is the way God designed it. People have read things into the life of Mary that are not true. Not only that, they have made a religion around it as well. Had the angel Gabriel not visited Mary prior to her marrying Joseph, Joseph and Mary would have married and had a family anyway. God did not require Mary or Joseph to be celibate martyrs. However, He did need Mary to give Jesus a physical body. Just think of the testimonies Mary had to tell. If anyone knew Jesus, it should have been His mother. Mary may not have seen everything He did; however, she was a witness to many things. Everything Jesus did is not written in the Bible. John 21:24 in the New Living Translation says, “Jesus also did many other things. If they were all written down, I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written”. Although we do not know all He did while here on earth, we should pay much attention to the Word we have.

[+ Chapter VII -Mary and Joseph Endured +]

A Solider Mentality

The Word of God says we are to be as soldiers. Soldiers don’t have it easy and think different from civilians. II Timothy 2:3 says, “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” Most people think of Christians as weak. However, believers who have strong faith in the integrity of God’s Word know how to endure. We don’t have to suffer for Jesus. We do however have to be strong and consistent even during the hard times. If we couldn’t handle it, God wouldn’t allow us to go through it. He knows you can handle it! (I Corinthians 10:13) If Joseph and Mary had obstacles to overcome and Jesus had to endure, how much more will we have to endure? When God gives you an assignment, don’t expect it to be easy. If it were easy, you wouldn’t need God. Read the Old and New Testament. All had to endure something (Moses, Daniel, Joseph, Peter, Paul, David, Jesus). Everyone in the Bible dealt with something. But faith in God’s Word promises manifestation if we don’t quit (Galatians 6:9). Mary had to give birth to the Son of God in a barn with a bunch of smelly animals. She laid Him in a manager. (That’s a nice word for a trough that animals eat out of).

Luke 2:7: And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. They were not in a cave or barn because Joseph could not afford some place decent to stay. With so many people in Bethlehem, the inn had run out of room. But this shows us the King of Kings and Lord of Lords humbled Himself because He is for all mankind. Jesus did not come for a selected few. The world system would have you believe that you are worthless and insignificant. However, if that were true, why would God send His Son Jesus to die for you? This is personal. It’s nice to know Jesus died for all mankind. However, it becomes personal when I recognize and receive what He did on the cross for me. He endured the cross for me. He went through hell for me. How could I not love a God who would do that for me? Jesus did not do all of this so you or I could fail. And He didn’t do it so people would worship someone else.

Chapter Trust God, Not Mary!

You’re a “whosoever”….

John 3:16: He so loved the world that whosoever would believe in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Jesus is for whosoever will believe in Him. Anyone can qualify for whosoever. It’s not God’s will for anyone to perish, but it’s not up to God. To become a part of the family of God, all you have to do is first call on the Lord (Acts 2:21) and ask Jesus to come into your heart and be Lord of your life according to Romans 10:9-10. Confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead. Done. He and His Word are one. You can not separate God from His Word. That’s why when the Ten Commandments are considered “offensive” and placed into a dark room, being God is His Word, we have pushed God away because we pushed His Word away. It’s not about the Ten Commandments. That is elementary to the believer. We are talking fellowship and relationship with Almighty God, the creator of Heaven and Earth. Jesus died for all mankind to have and enjoy life; not live a life of misery, poverty and sickness.

John 10:10: The thief [Satan] comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I [Jesus] came so that they [you who believe] may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows). [Amplified Version]

If you don’t know what the Word of God says, how will you know what God has promised you? God’s Word, the Bible, is our instruction manual and not a book of do’s and don’ts. There are many who ignore the instruction manuals when assembly is necessary. My husband once told me the BIBLE stands for asic nstructions efore eaving arth. My husband and I were married right before the Thanksgiving holidays. Our first couple of Christmas’ together, we were not concerned about purchasing a Christmas tree. After our first child was born, we decided it was time to buy a Christmas tree. We purchased an artificial tree that was approximately six feet tall. My husband did not think he needed the instructions to put up a simple Christmas tree. After he was done, something was not quite right. The tree was half the size it was supposed to be. It qualified as a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. He decided he did need the instructions and discovered his mistake. After making a few corrections, the tree was ready for the lights and decorations. That is exactly what the Bible does; it shows us where we need to make corrections in our hearts, in our minds and in our everyday lives.

Have Confidence in the Word of God

Those who trust, rely and have full confidence in the Word of God are living at another level that is far above the Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer and a few Hail Mary’s. When the doctor comes at you with a bad report, you need to remember your authority as a believer and what God has promised you in His Word. Don’t drop your lip to the ground and drag home and repeat the doctor’s negative words of sickness, disease and death. Instead, the Believer knows healing is one of the many promises from God. They listen to the doctor’s report, but they don’t have to receive his or her negative diagnosis of sickness and death. The believer knows this is not of God and looks up scripture on healing. They remember I Peter 2:24 which says by His stripes I am healed. They remember Matthew 8:17 which says [Jesus] Himself took our infirmities and bare our sickness. If Jesus already bore it, then they don’t have to. You really need to get a revelation of this and kiss your sick day’s good bye. There are many ministries that have these scriptures and confessions listed on their websites. All you have to do is print them out and confess them over yourself and family daily. They’ve done the research for you. A child of God starts declaring the report of the Lord. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”. The doctor may say surgery is needed. Or a certain medication is necessary. But the believer declares God’s Word over the situation or circumstance. They’re smart and listen to their doctor. But they continue to apply and confess they are healed. It may take fasting along with prayer. You may need to call another believer to stand in agreement with you. However, you keep saying the Word of God on healing. You don’t say you’re not sick, but you repeat and confess what God has said about the situation. Plead your case with God. Remind Him what His Word says. “Lord your Word says I am healed. Jesus already bore this sickness, so I don’t have to. You sent your Word and healed me. Jesus redeemed me from the curse of the law. Jesus was never sick on the earth. As Jesus was in the world, so am I”. Remind Him of what Jesus has done. Remind Him what you have done (Isaiah 43:26). Tell the devil too – because God did not put sickness and disease on you. Sometimes we do foolish things and they catch up to us. There are other times when things try to attack us. A believer who knows their rightful place is a threat to darkness. Don’t be a victim, fight because healing belongs to you. Remember you cannot do anything for God dead or on your sick bed. And Jesus doesn’t need you to suffer for Him either. Listen to the testimonies of other people who have been healed. It will stir up your faith.

Sickness Doesn’t Come From God!

I Peter 3:18 in the Amplified states: For Christ [the Messiah Himself] died for sins once for all, the Righteous for the unrighteous (the Just for the unjust, the Innocent for the guilty), that He might bring us to God. In His human body He was put to death, but He was made alive in the spirit,

We do not bring God any glory and honor by suffering. Instead, it says God can not take care of His children and that is contrary to the Word of God. Unfortunately, this has become part of the belief system of many. Renew your mind to the truth because this is not scriptural. Learn to walk in the victory Jesus died for you to have which includes your health.

Ever Increasing Faith in God

II Corinthians 5:7 tells us to walk by faith, not by sight. We could exchange the word faith with “the Word of God” and exchange word sight with “the five physical senses. It would read walk by the Word of God and not by our senses (sight, feel, touch, hearing and taste). Now I will be the first to say, this is not easy. So don’t start with a tumor if you don’t know how to believe God for relief from a headache. You must grow in faith! God has given every one the same measure of faith (Romans 12:3). For example, we all have the same muscles. However, some are more developed than others. You develop your muscles by applying pressure or weights much heavier to them. It works the same way with faith. I started working out with three pound weights. Soon that didn’t cut it anymore and I started lifting five pound weights. Then I increased to eight pounds and so on. It works the same way with faith. Start with something small and work at increasing your faith on bigger things. This is how I increase in faith. And my faith is ever increasing because I continue to exercise it for bigger things. I was always a healthy child. But my children had issues from birth. It perplexed me because I thought I did all the right things. They threw ADD, ADHD, autism, leucopenia, neutropenia (white blood cell disorders) and Meckel’s diverticulum at us just to name a few. I had to grow in faith for healing and everything else. Yes, my children have had surgery; three between the two of them. The year of 1999 was a very tumultuous year for my family. At the beginning of that year, our oldest son had a hearing test. We discovered he could only hear sixty percent in one ear and forty percent in the other. We were advised to get him surgery for ear tubes and have his adenoids removed. Up until that point, I had never heard of ear tubes or adenoids. A few months later, my mom passed away after a long illness. When sickness started plaguing my mother years earlier, I was a baby Christian and did not know what I know now. So she and I took a beating from cancer and Alzheimer’s. A few months later, our youngest son, who had already been diagnosed with leucopenia and neutropenia and required blood to be drawn daily for testing, abruptly lost a large amount of blood from his rear end. After several x-rays, tests, two hospitals and many doctors poking at him, it was discovered he had a gap in his intestine that had ulcerated and bled. This is known as Meckel’s Diverticulum. The surgeons advised emergency surgery to close the gap because it would rupture again. My son had just turned two years old. To top it all off, I had foot surgery and my husband’s grandfather was loosing his battle with cancer. In every situation we must use wisdom. In both cases with my young children, surgery was necessary. Yes, I believe God could heal them. However, my faith was not there yet. While riding in the ambulance to the children’s hospital in another county with my youngest son, all I could remember was “have the God kind of faith” or “have faith in God”. I never did panic. However, I did put my faith in God for the best surgeons with steady hands and not to make any mistakes. We also believed the same for the anesthesiologists. My son’s Godmother had to remind me to do this. So my husband and I did just that; we prayed in the middle of the parking lot at the hospital. Both children came through their surgeries well and healed quickly. Praise God we overcame all of the above and my children are whole and healed from the crown of their heads to the soles of their feet. My oldest hears fine now and is a geography whiz. My youngest is thirteen years old and is one of the roughest, athletic kids I know. Now when my kids tell me their tummy hurts, my reaction is to declare I Peter 2:24 over them immediately. I confess healing over my family every day. A tummy ache is nothing compared to what they have already been through. However, God did not put the tummy ache, ADD, Meckel’s or anything else on them. The Word says Jesus went to the cross and bore it already. So why should I receive it? It’s in your best interest to be in a church where people are like minded and know the Word of God. All churches are not good for you. Some can help you die early. My old church always told me God heals in His own good time if it is His will. Well I have scripture that says healing is His will. I wish I had known this earlier. I believe my mom would not have had to suffer the way she did if we had known. But praise God I heard the truth in time for my children. I had to grow in faith for healing and everything else, and I am still growing. Because of my limited faith, I could not believe any higher at the time. So I believed God for where my faith was. There are times when a doctor is necessary. However, there are times when the doctors have no answers and do not know what to do. In the case of neutropenia and leucopenia, my youngest son’s test would always come back with a low white blood cell count and low neutrofils. This meant his immune system was not working properly. But he was never sick. I was speaking the Word of God over him continuously. The doctors did not have an answer and I refused to believe he was doomed to be sickly. On paper he was sick, but in the natural he was fine. The doctors did not understand that. I took every precaution, but I decided to work the Word of God for my son’s healing. Because he was never sick, the doctor himself made the statement at his last appointment, “God must be watching over him”. He released him from the blood testing and advised us to take him immediately to the hospital if he ever got a temperature of 100 degrees. Praise God my children do not live in doctors’ offices anymore. They go for physicals when necessary. Other than that, they are walking in divine health. And divine health is God’s will for all of His children. When you begin to see your prayers answered, there is no way you can go back to your old way of thinking and doing things. We can even believe God for our protection, favor, wisdom, prosperity, a spouse, children and anything else you can find scripture on and are willing to stand for. We can believe God because of what Jesus did for us at Calvary – not Mary. Mary did not bare my sickness for me. She didn’t suffer the crucifixion for me. Everything I have is in Christ Jesus, not Mary.

[+ Chapter IX -The Queen of Heaven +]

Never Worship Mary

Mary has been given many names. One of which is the Queen of Heaven. There are many people who call her by this name. However, this is not biblical. Jeremiah 7:18-20 tells us how God was provoked to anger because His people were worshipping “The Queen of Heaven”. The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the Queen of Heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger. Do they provoke me to anger? Saith the Lord: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces? Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn and shall be quenched.

God became extremely angry with His people that were worshipping the Queen of Heaven. This was before Mary’s time. However, the Bible clearly tells us this provoked God to anger. And God does not change. Malachi 3:6 says, “For I am the LORD, I change not.” If God didn’t like it then, He doesn’t like it now. Not only were they provoking God, they were also provoking themselves to their own confusion. Who wants to be confused? I Corinthians 14:33 says, “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.” God doesn’t want you to be confused either. The very first commandment God gave to Moses is given in Exodus 20:3 in which God said, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me”. Anything or anyone that has a position before God Almighty in our lives violates the above verse. We are not to worship anyone or anything other than God and Him alone. We are not to worship angels, apostles, people, things, or Mary. Mary is not deserving of our worship. Thank God for Mary, but we are not to worship her. Matthew 2:11 tells us the wise men found the house where Mary, Jesus and Joseph were staying. It says, “…they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him…” It’s important to note the wise men knew Jesus was born of a virgin birth, but they worshipped Jesus and not His mother Mary. Why didn’t they worship Mary so we would know it’s alright to worship her too? Nowhere in the Bible do we find Mary being worshipped by anyone. And there are no verses that tell us to worship her. The Bible never says she stayed a virgin. Even if she did, it would be wrong to worship her. Although, there are many instances in the Bible where people fell down and worshipped Jesus. You can not do what you do not know. However, truth is being revealed to you in this book. Just take the Word of God, study it for yourself and renew your mind. Continue to seek out the truth. Don’t take my word for it. I can be sincere, but I can also be sincerely wrong. Seek and know the truth for yourself. Once you learn the truth, you have a choice to accept it or not.

Mary’s Assumption Is Not Biblical

The Assumption is Irrelevant

After Pentecost, nothing more is mentioned of Mary. The Bible says nothing about the Assumption of Mary. It’s not written in the Word of God; therefore, we should not perpetuate this man made belief. The Assumption is not biblical and is therefore a false doctrine. Even if the Assumption of Mary did take place, it has nothing to do with the purpose Jesus was born, crucified and resurrected. However, Jesus did ascend into heaven. It is documented in the Bible and what happened afterward is very important. Jesus made a promise to send the Holy Spirit in the book of John and again in Acts 1:4-8 before He ascended. The Holy Spirit is essential to the believer. Once you receive Jesus Christ into your life, the next step is to learn about and get filled with the Holy Spirit. Mary and one hundred and nineteen other followers all waited to be filled with the Holy Spirit in Acts 1:13-15. On the day of Pentecost, all one hundred and twenty, including Mary, were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues according to Acts 2:4.

John 14:26 says, But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Some belief systems focus so much on Mary and ignore God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. It’s not what Mary did that will benefit you but what Jesus did. Jesus said, in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” There are those who say you can get to God many ways, but not according to John 14:6. Jesus is the only way to God. Jesus did not say to choose between Him and His mother. Jesus said He was the only way to God the Father.

Chapter XI – Are The Apparitions of God?

Two Ladies Called Fatima

Those who believe in the Apparitions of Mary, honor Our Lady of Fatima. But here is the tricky part; Mary is not the only lady called Fatima. The apparitions supposedly took place in Fatima, Portugal which was named after the Prophet Mohammed’s daughter. Because Mary is believed to have appeared several times to three shepherd children at Fatima, she has been given the name, Our Lady of Fatima. Surprisingly, Muslims also revere Mary very highly because of their belief that she was a perpetual virgin and is therefore without sin. The Blessed Virgin Mary is mentioned many times in the Koran and it even mentions the virgin birth of Jesus; however, it differs greatly from the Holy Bible. You can not straddle the fence and believe a little bit of this and a little bit of that. You have to choose whom you will believe. No one can make the choice for you. The prophet Elijah said in 1 Kings 18:21, “How long will you be between two opinions? If the Lord be God, follow him”. However, you have to seek the true and living God for yourself. No one can do it for you. Not your mother, father, grandmother or anyone else – only you.

The Many Sightings of Mary

Many other sightings and visions have been reported of Mary in the strangest places. People flock in droves to see them. I believe these people saw something. However, whatever they saw, their faith should not be based upon it. Anyone serious about the things of God should not be dependent on visions, sightings or apparitions. Visions are not a form of faith. Faith causes things to be seen. If you can see it or feel it, you do not need faith.

The Two Kinds of Faith

There are two kinds of faith. There is the Abraham kind of faith and there is the Thomas kind of faith. A person who has the Abraham kind of faith takes God at His Word regardless of what they see or feel (Romans 4:18-20). In other words, they are fully persuaded and believe it before they see it. However a person with the Thomas kind of faith has to see it before they believe it. Mary had the Abraham kind of faith because she took God at His Word before she saw anything. Jesus disciples had seen Jesus after His resurrection. Thomas was not present and refused to believe Jesus was raised from the dead until he saw Jesus for himself and put his finger into the holes in Jesus’ hands and thrust his hand into his side. In John 20:26-29, Jesus appeared and Thomas saw Him for himself. Now Thomas only believes because he has seen Jesus. However, this is not faith.

We Walk By Faith, Not By Sightings

II Corinthians 5:7: For we walk by faith, not by sight.

As I mentioned in an earlier chapter, another way to say it would be we walk by the Word of God and not by our five physical senses. Regardless or what we see or feel, the Word of God is final authority. In order to do that, one must spend time in the Word. Otherwise a person will remain ignorant of the things of God. Hosea 4:6 says, My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge……Do not remain ignorant. We should not be looking for any signs. I’m not disputing people have seen visions of Mary. The question is why? What purpose did it serve? I have seen the images that look like Mary. As interesting as this is, this is not how a child of God should live their life – looking for signs, images and visions.

Hebrews 11:6: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Maybe, just maybe these visions are not from God. He has already sent His Son who suffered and died on the cross only to be raised the third day. If this was not necessary, Jesus would never have had to come into the world and suffer the crucifixion. If it had not been for Jesus, Mary would have faced damnation along with the rest of mankind. Even Mary called Jesus her Saviour in Luke 1:47. It says, “And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour”. We must stop walking by sightings and our feelings. We are to diligently seek after Jesus and not anyone else, including Mary. We are also to grow up spiritually as well as physically. Ephesians 4:15 tells us, “We are to grow up into him [Jesus] in all things”. To grow up spiritually, we must get to know the Word and learn to walk by faith [the Word of God] regardless of the circumstances. Getting to know the Word is the same as getting know God Himself. God never said to follow signs. Mark 16:17 says signs would follow them that believe.

[+ Chapter XII -What Is Faith? +]

Faith and Religion Are Not the Same

There is confusion on what faith is and what it is not. First let’s look at what faith is not. Faith is not your denomination or your religion. In the United Sates and around the world, there are many religions and many denominations within each. Each has their own way of doing things. The key phrase here is “their own way”. Tradition starts and continues until someone gets a hold of the truth and learns to do it God’s way. People will ask what faith are you? In Ephesians 4:5, the Bible says there is only “one faith”. People are taught to believe their faith is Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Mormon, Baptist, etc. But that is not faith. People confuse religion with a relationship with Jesus Christ. It’s not the same thing. Faith is equal to the Word of God. The more Word I have, the more faith I have. Mark 16:20 tells us God only confirms the word – not denominations, churches, theology or religion.

Beware of What You are Hearing

Jesus tells us in Mark 4:24, “Be careful what you are hearing”. Why? Because according to Romans 10:17,Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God”. You will have faith for whatever you are hearing. If you are hearing words from the evening news, the news is what you will have faith for. If the people around you are negative and you continue to listen, you will faith for what they are saying. So be careful what you hear. Remember you are getting faith by hearing and hearing and hearing. Faith does not come from having heard. Because faith comes from hearing, whatever it is that you are hearing you will have faith for. Advertisers are aware of this and that is why they play commercials over and over and over again. But to have the faith of God, you have to hear God’s Word. Remember Rahab heard about God and Mary heard Gabriel’s words? There are many ways you can hear it including from your own mouth. You hear the words you speak and faith comes by hearing. Once you start changing your speech and watching what you say, you will also start to sound strange to other people. For example, a friend may say they are “catching a cold”. In the old days I would say “I’ll probably get it too because something is going around.” Now that I know better and watch what I say, I respond much differently. I would respond, “Not me. If something is going around, it won’t come nigh me and my family”. I take authority over (whatever it is) in Jesus Name. Jesus already bore it so I don’t have to. I also have scripture to back up every statement I make. Sounds crazy, but it works. Sickness use to plague our family, but not anymore. We have learned to use our authority as believers to bind sickness and disease. It’s not something you do once; daily I must speak God’s Word of healing over myself and my family. I’m responsible for my children now, but they are being trained to do it for themselves. And this goes pass getting healed. If you can find scripture for it, make a confession and say it for your finances, protection, children, marriage, finding a mate, etc. Its not magic its finding out what God has said about the situation and working towards that goal of seeing it come to fruition.

It’s All or Nothing!

People will often ask how do I know the Bible is God’s Word and not some other book. I counter that with another question, how do they know its not? However we must realize God is a God of order and His ways are higher than our ways. We see so much havoc in the world because people are doing the exact opposite. Obviously there has to be a better way. The way most people are doing things now is not working. The God of the Bible says to love those who curse you, pray for those who use you and pray for your enemies. How many people do you know who are saying or doing that? The world says to have sex with whomever, whenever. God says one man and one woman. Many say if they steal and don’t get caught, it’s no big deal. God says it’s stealing whether someone sees you or not. God knows. God says to forgive. Jesus gave us a great example in the Bible while He was on the cross. Jesus forgave them who crucified Him. Wow! Regardless of what you were taught, it’s your responsibility to seek the truth. Once you learn the truth, your responsibilities increase because more will be required of you (Luke 12:48). We don’t get to pick and choose which parts of the Bible we will believe and ignore the rest. Joshua 1:8 says to do according to all that is written in the Book of the Law or the Bible. It’s all or nothing.

Fight the Good Fight of Faith

Now for what faith is. Faith is trusting, relying and having full confidence in the integrity of God’s Word. It is the title deed of what I am believing God for. If I am believing God for healing, I find the title deed in the Bible that promises me healing. I Peter 2:24 is a good one to stand on. It’s not the only one, but it’s a good one. It may not happen overnight, but keep standing. Listen to your doctor, but stand on the Word also. You can not separate God from His Word. The Word of God is equal to faith. So if I have faith, I am saying what God’s Word says regardless of what I see or feel. Faith says I believe I have it before I see it. That’s the Abraham kind of faith. That’s the kind of faith God recognizes. God said it and that settles it. That is why the Bible is so important. I need to know what God has said. Also realize God has an enemy called Satan; therefore, he is your enemy also. Just as you can not separate God from His Word, you can not separate Satan from sin. The Bible calls him the god of this world. That is why things are in such a mess. People want to blame God for everything. Adam committed high treason against God and turned his dominion over to Satan. Satan has had the lease for a long time. However, his days are numbered. Know that he recognizes your faith as well and he will aim at stealing the Word from you. II Corinthians 4:4 tells us Satan wants to keep unbelievers ignorant and blind to the truth. But Paul wrote, “Fight the good fight of faith” (I Timothy 6:12). It’s a good fight because we win! Mary is a perfect example of someone with faith in God. She took the words of the angel Gabriel and received what he said. She had no evidence and no idea how she could conceive a child without being with a man. However, she said to the angel, “Be it unto me according to thy word.” The angel of the Lord said it was so; therefore, that settled it for Mary. She would somehow conceive a child without help from a man. She took God at His Word even though it seemed impossible. Because she believed she received, Mary gave birth to Jesus by a virgin birth. Now don’t get the idea you can believe God for a virgin birth. Jesus was the only one and for good reason. However, a woman who is married and is told she is barren can believe God to have a child or children. You can find women in the Bible such as Sarah, Hannah, Rebecca and Elisabeth who were all barren. But they all eventually had a child and some had several children. Believers who were in the same position have believed God and had children. The Bible is for us today to help us overcome obstacles in our lives. So never ask someone what faith they are. If you are a Baptist, Catholic, Buddhist, Hindu, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Seventh Day Adventist, Methodist, that is not your faith; that is your religion. Numerous people are associated with a specific religion, but neither know or have any faith in their God. Be sure of what and who you believe because your very life depends on it.

Chapter XIII – No Need for Hail Mary’s

Never Pray to Mary

Exodus 20:3-4 (Amplified): You shall have no other gods before or besides Me. You shall not make yourself any graven image [to worship] or any likeness of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

We are not to pray to anyone other than God. We can, but its ineffective prayer. I don’t know about you, but I want results. I want manifestation of what I believe God for. You may say “that’s our tradition”. Bump tradition – it may sound good but does it get results? The “tradition of men” has made the Word of God of non-effect. I like the Darby translation of Mark 7:13 which says, “making void the word of God by your traditional teaching which ye have delivered; and many such like things ye do.”

In other words, traditions are of men and have watered down and made the Word of God non-effective and powerless. If your tradition teaches you to pray to any saint or other religious icon, just find out from the Bible on how to pray correctly and do it God’s way. So how and who should we pray to? Let’s look at Philippians 2:9 in the Amplified Bible. “God bestowed on Him the name that is above every name.” Philippians 2:10 tell us that name is JESUS.

Pray In the Name of Jesus Only

People have come under fire for praying in the name of Jesus. They seem to have no problem with any other name. However, there is something about the name of Jesus. Jesus bridged the gap between God and man. The only way to God the Father is through Jesus Christ. John 14:6 says, “Jesus said, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except by me.” Praise God for Mary and her obedience and faith, but she is not a god to be praised, worshipped or prayed to. Even Mary recognized she needed to praise God. Luke 1:46 says, “And Mary said, my soul doth praise [magnify] the Lord”. To magnify the Lord God is to make Him bigger then all others. We are not to place anyone or anything above the Lord God Almighty. Therefore, there is a correct way to pray. And of course the Bible tells us how.

John 15:16 says: Whatsoever you shall ask of the Father in My name, He may give it you.

Therefore, we are to pray to God the Father in Jesus Name. Never will you find in the Bible to direct your prayers to anyone or anything else. The resurrection power is not in the name of Mary; it is only in the name of Jesus.

An Example of How to Pray and Get Results

For example, let’s say I have a very bad headache. I have my healing scriptures that I have memorized so I don’t have to go run and find my Bible when trouble comes. You should get in the habit of memorizing scripture. There are many translations of the Bible. You will notice I use several in this book. I personally believe the regular King James Version is the best for reading and memorization. I do not have a healing prayer. I just pray the Word that I know. I will not repeat it exactly the same way every time. However, I pray the Word of God for healing every time. “Heavenly Father, Your Word says that you sent Your Word and healed me. So I send Your Word to my head and command the pain to leave my body now. I thank you that I was healed by the stripes of Jesus. Jesus already bore this headache so I don’t have to. I thank you Lord that I am whole and healed from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet. It’s in the authority of Jesus Name I pray.” (Scripture Reference: Psalms 107:20, I Peter 2:24, Matthew 8:17, Job 2:7, Isaiah 1:6). I did not have to pray to Mary or even mention her name. I didn’t have to hold anything in my hand not even my Bible. Authority and resurrection power is in the name of Jesus only. Once the Word of God is in me that is what should come out when I am faced with a situation or trial. I never pray for anything twice. In the case of the headache, I thank God for my healing. “Thank you Father, I believe I’m healed.” The first time was a prayer of petition. Ongoing, I say a prayer of thanksgiving until the results manifest. I continue to say “I believe I’m healed” until manifestation comes.

Chapter XIV – Mary Said Do As Jesus Says

Feed Your Faith and Starve Your Doubts

Jesus obeyed His mother Mary at the wedding at Cana of Galilee. The wine had run out and Mary asked Jesus to do something. Jesus performed His first miracle (John 2:11). Mary said something awesome here to the servants. In John 2:5 she said, “Whatsoever he [Jesus] saith unto you, do it.” Believers in the one true God should always do what He says to do also. But how can you do what He says if you don’t know what He has said? To do this, it is important to open the book, the Bible, daily. There is life in the Word of God. This is another way to help feed your faith. The Word of God is spiritual food. You are a spirit with a body and a soul. Your spirit needs to be fed just as your physical body needs to be fed. The Bible is spiritual food. This is how you learn God’s way of doing things. In today’s world, right is wrong and wrong is right. Isaiah 5:20 speaks of this very thing. However, you wouldn’t eat one meal a week and not eat physical food again for an entire week would you? We need to learn to feed our faith and starve our doubts by feeding on the Word of God daily. Don’t just read a verse or two and leave it at that. Give the Word attention and time. Meditate on it by thinking on it over and over until it becomes a part of you. Make time for God each day for reading your Bible and prayer. Set aside a specific time each day and keep it. Wake up or go to bed thirty minutes earlier. Use your lunch break to get away and read. I like to get up before everyone else does. Its dark, quiet and I’m rarely interrupted. It’s not a bad thing for your children to see you at these times. They usually will join in with their Bibles, get on their knees to pray or go to read alone.

John 15:7 says: If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Notice He said “my words”. The word “abide” means to conform, comply, to remain in a place or to dwell. We are to comply and conform to the Word of God. It also says we can then ask what we will and it will be done for us if we abide. It’s conditional. We have to do it God’s way and not any other way. Only God’s way will work. That means we will have to relearn some things and change. Religion may please people; however, I would rather please God. But it’s a win/win situation. Because God wants me to be satisfied as well (Psalm 91:16, Psalm 103:3-5). He wants me to be happy and not miserable. He wants me to be blessed and enjoy life.

Chapter XV – Why Jesus Entrusted His Mother to John

The Disciple Whom He Loved

This is one scripture that leaves people wondering why. Why did Jesus entrust his disciple John with his mother Mary especially with surviving brothers and sisters? Of course we will find the answer in the Word of God.

John 19:25-27 [The Darby Translation] And by the cross of Jesus stood his mother, and the sister of his mother, Mary the [wife] of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. Jesus therefore, seeing his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, says to his mother, Woman, behold thy son. Then he says unto the disciple, Behold thy mother. And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.

We have found, through the Word, Jesus had brothers and sisters. Usually one of her other sons would care for her at the death of her oldest son. We even learn that Mary had a sister. However, notice Jesus called John “the disciple whom he loved”. John is referenced several times in the Bible as “the disciple whom he loved”. Jesus had several disciples. However, He had a close relationship with Peter, James and John.

Proverbs 18:24: A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

There are those who can relate to having a friend who is closer and more trusted than an actual flesh and blood relative. Jesus did not always take every disciple with Him. There are several instances where Jesus only took a few. They were usually Peter, James and John. John was the first man at the tomb after the resurrection (John 20:4, 5). John was invited to the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1). John was one of the few invited to witness Jairus’ dead daughter brought back to life (Mark 5:37). John was also near Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:37).

He Saw Their Faith

At one time Jesus had seventy other disciples (Luke 10:1). Somehow that number diminished to twelve. The remaining disciples went into hiding after Jesus was arrested. There is no mention of His siblings at the foot of the cross either. John 7:5 says, not even Jesus’ brothers believed in Him. Only those who put their love for Jesus ahead of their fears witnessed the crucifixion. Jesus saw his mother and He saw John at the foot of the cross. He saw their faith. So it only makes sense for Him to entrust His loving mother to “the disciple whom he loved”, and that was John.

Chapter XVI – Don’t Trust in a Lie

Don’t Take My Word for It

Everything written in this book is based upon scripture in the Holy Bible. It is not my opinion nor is it someone else’s opinion. For centuries, there have been religious teachings about Mary and millions have believed and passed that teaching along to the next generation. A lot of those teachings have been false. Anything that is taught about the Bible should have scripture to support it. Otherwise, how would we know fact from fiction or the truth from a lie? God does not want you to live on lies. That’s like eating food with empty calories. It does nothing for you except help wear you down and make you sick. The Bible has endured for many centuries. There are many versions of Mary, the mother of Jesus. However, only one is the truth. Which one will you believe?

Continue to Seek Out the Truth

The Bible warns us to beware of false prophets. They come with something that sounds good but is still a fake. If you buy a brand new Toyota but stick a Rolls Royce emblem on the hood, you will have a nice car but it will still be a fake Rolls Royce. I have seen people with Honda Civics and they have Lamborghini doors on the sides. It’s still a fake. They are fine with driving a fake. I don’t know about you, but I want the real thing. I want to know the truth. The truth usually doesn’t fall into your lap. It takes work to search it out. And that was the whole purpose of this book. Test what you hear with the Word of God to see if what you believe is the truth or a lie. Jeremiah 28:15 speaks of what happened when a false prophet named Hananiah was pushing false teaching to the people and making them to trust in a lie. In Jeremiah 29:8, the Lord says, “Let not your prophets and your diviners that be in the midst of you deceive you”. This scripture tells us not to be deceived by anyone. Find out the truth for yourself. A person may be sincere, but they can be sincerely wrong. How do we find out the truth? Easy, II Timothy 2:15 say, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God”. That means we are to search the scriptures for ourselves on a regular basis. A lie may endure for a season. However, the truth will always prevail over a lie.

Chapter XVII – God’s Not Religious

You Can Know the Truth

Regardless of your “religion” or lack of, you have heard of the “Virgin Mary”. Chances are whatever you have heard does not line up with the Bible. From my earliest childhood, I have heard many things regarding Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Some believe this and others believe that. I never thought much of the subject until fifteen year ago when a very well known minister of the gospel brought the subject up on his television broadcast. With one scripture, Dr. Fred Price proved Mary had other children. He told his congregation and the television audience to stop calling Mary a virgin and biblically proved why we should. With one scripture, I saw the truth. As the years went by, I would hear of more sightings of Mary. People were seeing her in an underpass, a building window and even on a grilled cheese sandwich. People were coming in droves to see the “Virgin Mary”. There are even churches built in her honor. If Dr. Price could use one scripture to biblically prove Mary did not remain a virgin, how much more was revealed in the Bible about her. I wanted to know the truth for myself. I have prayed that this book will make clear the truth about Mary to everyone that reads it. People need to realize the Bible is not for religion but for living. Also, there is a God who loves you and wants you to succeed. However, the only way to Him is through Jesus Christ and none other. God the Father is not looking for “the religious”. He wants children that will trust and obey His Word. Mary took God at his Word. You can do the same. The choice is yours.

Outro

People around the world worship and pray to Mary, the Mother of Jesus. It is also believed Mary remained a virgin all of her life. However, there are many misconceptions about Mary. In this book Patricia Hawkins will biblically prove that Mary did not remain a virgin and that she gave birth to more children. You will also learn why and how to redirect your adoration to the one true and living God. It will also help you to renew your mind, understand what faith really is, overcome circumstances and speak faith filled prayers that get results. Traditions have kept people in bondage. These Biblical principles will help you to experience God’s best for your life!!
