Gravy the Wonderful Dog (Sept. 2007 to December 27, 2015)
He came into our lives a little bitty fellow just a few weeks old when my brother brought him home on my father’s sixty-first birthday in November 2007. He was sweet, loving and kind from the beginning.
He rarely needed any discipline and none at all as he got older. Through it all, Gravy remained a big loving puppy for all of his eight plus years of life. And he was BIG! He became a 140 pound bundle of pure Great Dane/Bulldog mix joy. He stood no less than five feet-tall when he reared up. He did not have as much height as a full-blooded Dane, but he was proportionally even thicker and wider. My happy-go-lucky, yet protective, best friend passed away suddenly just after Christmas 2015 of the heart complications that all very large dogs have that leads to their shorter lifespans. But I still feel as though I was bereaved of him way too soon! And I wish that I could have another day with him for every big, wet, sloppy tongue kiss that he had ever proffered me up until that point. Believe me – that would have been years more!
See you on the other side my sweetest friend! Or, as my mom would always say before leaving “See you later, Gravy Pertater”! His name was Gravy, but we often called him just “Baby”.
