[] Fluffy the Kitten is Afraid of a Shadow

Fluffy the Kitten was sitting in the kitchen eating her food peacefully when she looked up and saw a shadow on the wall beside her.

“Oh dear!” exclaimed Fluffy, her orange fur sticking out a mile wide. “I am afraid of shadows. Please go away. I don’t want to see you. I don’t want to be afraid.”

Fluffy took a bite of food and she looked at the wall again and the shadow was still there.

“I know I shouldn’t be afraid of a shadow,” said Fluffy. “But I just can’t help but be afraid.”

Fluffy sat there in the middle of the kitchen floor and she was shaking. Her best friend, Phillipo, had just walked into the kitchen.

“Fluffy,” said Phillipo, assessing the situation. “Why are you so afraid of everything? You know, you have to learn to be brave and not be so scared of everything.”

“How can I learn how to be brave?” asked Fluffy. “I don’t want to be scared of everything.”

“It is easy to be brave,” said Phillipo. “You must close your mind to all the things that scare you and concentrate hard on things that are important in life. I will show you what you can do to become brave.”

Phillipo and Fluffy went to the park. Fluffy saw a squirrel playing around in the tree. The squirrel was running around from limb to limb and as he went, he was dropping acorns on the ground. Fluffy tried very hard to not let the falling acorns scare her but when each acorn fell, she jumped ten feet in the air.

“Fluffy,” said Phillipo. “You are not being very brave. You need to stop being so scared.”

“I will try harder,” said Fluffy. “But it is very difficult.”

The next time Phillipo and Fluffy were at the park, Phillipo watched Fluffy as she played. Fluffy was watching a squirrel in the tree and the squirrel dropped an acorn. Fluffy jumped ten miles in the air. It just so happened that there was another squirrel close to where Fluffy was and Fluffy did not see it. That squirrel dropped an acorn onto the ground and Fluffy didn’t even flinch.

“Ah ha!” exclaimed Phillipo, knowing that he had uncovered the secret to Fluffy being so scared.

“What?” asked Fluffy.

“I have noticed that when you actually see something happen,” explained Phillipo. “That is when you get scared. If you don’t see something happen, you don’t even flinch.”

“Are you serious?” asked Fluffy.

“Yes,” said Phillipo. “I want you to try something.”

“Sure,” said Fluffy. “I will try just about anything to not be so scared.”

“Okay,” said Phillipo. “This is what I want you to try. When you see something and you think it might scare you, I want you to look away.”

“Okay,” said Fluffy. “I will try that.”

That night when Fluffy went home she saw a shadow on the wall. She glanced away from it and she found that she wasn’t scared of it. The next day Fluffy and Phillipo were at the park and Fluffy saw the squirrels up in the tree. Instead of looking directly at the squirrels, she looked away.

“I am so proud of you,” said Phillipo. “I think you have conquered your fear!”

Fluffy was so glad that she was not afraid of things anymore. She found that she could go and have fun instead of being worried all the time.

[] Phillipo Helps Fluffy Overcome Her Bashfulness

Fluffy the Kitten and her friend, Phillipo, were playing in the park. A new kitten moved into the neighborhood. The new kitten was very cute. Phillipo wanted to play with the new kitten. However, Fluffy was too bashful.

“Fluffy,” said Phillipo once the new kitten had gone inside. “Why don’t you want to play with the new kitten? He looks like he could be a lot of fun to play with.”

“I am very bashful,” said Fluffy, hanging her head down.

“Oh,” said Phillipo. “Well, it would be nice if you could get over being so bashful.”

“I would love that,” said Fluffy. “But I am not sure how I could do that.”

“I can show you how,” said Phillipo.

“That would be nice,” said Fluffy.

Fluffy and Phillipo went over to the new kitten’s house and they knocked on the door.

“We would like to play with the new kitten,” said Phillipo.

“Oh,” said the kitten’s owner. “That is so very kind of you. Frederick will enjoy having new friends to play with.”

Frederick came into the hallway and saw Phillipo and Fluffy at the doorway. Frederick invited the two cats into his bedroom. At first, Fluffy was very bashful. He saw that Phillipo and Frederick were having a lot of fun together.

“Come over here,” said Phillipo. “Come play with us.”

“That was so much fun,” said Fluffy, on their way home.

“Yes,” said Phillipo. “I am very proud of you for playing with Frederick.”

Phillipo and Fluffy went to the park the next day and there was an ice cream truck there. The ice cream truck was giving away free ice cream cones.

“Do you want an ice cream cone?” asked Phillipo.

“No,” said Fluffy. “I am still too bashful.”

“You know you have to stop being bashful,” said Phillipo. “You were getting along just fine with Frederick. Just put your bashfulness behind you and you will be fine.”

Fluffy did want an ice cream cone so she decided that he would put her bashfulness behind her and have an ice cream cone.

“I think I want an ice cream cone,” said Fluffy.

“I thought you might,” smiled Phillipo.

Phillipo and Fluffy went to the ice cream truck and the owner of the ice cream truck gave Fluffy and Phillipo an ice cream cone.

“Thank you,” said Fluffy. “Thank you very much for the ice cream cone.”

“You are most welcome,” said the owner.

“I am very proud of you,” said Phillipo.

Fluffy was very grateful that she was able to overcome her bashfulness. She found that she could go out and have so much fun and not have to worry so much about being bashful.

[] Fluffy the Kitten and the Monkeys

Fluffy the Kitten was at the zoo with her friend, Phillipo. Fluffy’s favorite animals to see at the zoo were the monkeys.

“I want to go see the monkeys,” said Fluffy.

“We will see them,” said Phillipo.

“Okay,” said Fluffy. “You know how much I love them! I can’t wait to see them!”

Fluffy was pacing up and down while she and Phillipo looked at the different animals.

“Fluffy,” said Phillipo. “You’d better have some patience. We are going to see the monkeys but we have to see the other animals first.”

As they went from one exhibit to another, Phillipo noticed that Fluffy was not going to settle down. She was pacing and she was very hyper.

“Fluffy,” said Phillipo. “You need to have patience.”

“Oh!” cried Fluffy. “I am trying so hard but I want to see the monkeys so bad. I don’t want to wait to see them. I want to see them now.”

Fluffy tried to have some patience. She tried to watch the other animals in their exhibits. She saw penguins and when she saw them walking the way penguins walk, she did want to smile at them but then her mind went racing back to the monkeys. She saw the polar bears and when she saw them dive into the icy cold water, she wanted to smile at them but her mind went racing back to the monkeys.

“I can’t stand it any longer,” said Fluffy. “I need to see the monkeys.”

“Fluffy,” said Phillipo. “You really have to have patience. We are almost at the monkey exhibit.”

Fluffy took a look at their surroundings and she saw that they were getting closer to the monkey exhibit but it just wasn’t close enough. She was getting very sad.

“Cheer up!” exclaimed Phillipo. “We will be at the monkey exhibit soon.”

Just as Fluffy and Phillipo got up to the front of the monkey exhibit, the zoo official was standing there.

“We have to close the monkey exhibit for about an hour,” said the zoo official.

“NO!” cried Fluffy. “I need to see the monkeys!”

“Fluffy,” said Phillipo. “An hour isn’t that long. We can go see the other animals and then come back.”

Phillipo knew that Fluffy was disappointed and nothing he was going to say to her was going to help. Phillipo felt really bad for Fluffy. Fluffy walked around the zoo with the saddest face.

Before the hour was up, the zoo official announced that the monkey exhibit was open. Fluffy started to run towards the monkey exhibit.

“Fluffy!” shouted Phillipo. “You need to slow down. You must have patience.”

Phillipo ran to catch up with Fluffy.

“Fluffy,” said Phillipo. “You must not run in the zoo. It isn’t safe for you or the other animals and it is certainly not safe for the monkeys.”

Fluffy thought about what Phillipo had said. She didn’t want to hurt the monkeys so she went to the back of the line and stood there quietly. Because Fluffy was so good standing in line and being so patient, the zoo officials let Fluffy play with the monkeys longer than they normally allowed.

“Thank you so much!” exclaimed Fluffy to the zoo official at the end of her zoo visit.

“I am very proud of you,” said Phillipo, later that evening. “You learned to have patience!”

[] Chasing Mice and Teasing Dogs

Fluffy the Kitten was sitting with her friend, Phillipo. Phillipo wanted to do something because he was bored. Fluffy, on the other hand, actually wanted to be on her best behavior.

Lately, Fluffy had been getting into quite a bit of trouble. She was getting quite tired of being yelled at and being grounded. She wanted to be a good kitten and she wanted to be on her best behavior.

“Come on!” exclaimed Phillipo. “I want to do something. I am so bored!”

“I want to be on my best behavior,” said Fluffy.

Phillipo thought that was odd for Fluffy. Fluffy was always the one encouraging him to do something.

“We can go to the park and chase mice and tease dogs,” said Phillipo.

“I don’t think so,” said Fluffy. “I really don’t think that would be a good idea.”

“Come on!” exclaimed Phillipo. “We can have a lot of fun!”

Phillipo coaxed Fluffy all day long to play with him. Fluffy would not budge.

“Please come with me,” said Phillipo, his one last attempt. “I don’t want to stay inside all day long. Come on!”

“Oh well,” said Fluffy, finally giving in. “Okay, let’s go to the park.”

Fluffy didn’t sound very enthusiastic but Phillipo didn’t care. He was glad that Fluffy agreed to come to the park with him.

“Fluffy,” a little voice said in Fluffy’s head. “I thought you were going to be on your best behavior.”

“I am trying,” said Fluffy to herself.

Once Fluffy and Phillipo were at the park, Phillipo went to search for some mice for him and Fluffy to chase. While Phillipo was searching, the voice in Fluffy’s head continued to talk to her.

“Fluffy,” said the voice. “You shouldn’t have come to the park with Phillipo. You said you were going to be on your best behavior. You know that when you and Phillipo are at the park that the two of you are going to cause trouble.”

“Seriously,” said Fluffy to the voice. “How do you think we are going to cause trouble by chasing around some mice and teasing some dogs?”

“Think of those poor little mice,” said the voice. “How would you like to be chased?”

Fluffy thought about what the voice was saying and she knew it was right. She knew that if she wanted to be on her best behavior that she must not stay at the park.

“Okay,” said Fluffy to the voice. “I am going to go home.”

“Where are you going?” asked Phillipo.

“I am going home,” said Fluffy. “I want to be on my best behavior.”

Phillipo wasn’t sure why Fluffy wanted to be on her best behavior. He was, however, very proud of Fluffy though for sticking to her decision.

[] Fluffy the Kitten is a Little Bit Silly

Fluffy was in the kitchen eating her breakfast. She thought about how serious her life has become. It seems that nobody around her including herself had time for laughter.

“I want people to laugh,” said Fluffy. “I miss hearing the sound of laughter.”

Fluffy the Kitten came out of the kitchen with an apron on.

“What are you doing with an apron on?” asked Fluffy’s best friend, Phillipo.

Phillipo couldn’t help but laugh at the fact that Fluffy had an apron on. It did look pretty silly. Fluffy started to laugh as well. She laughed at the fact that Phillipo was laughing at him.

“Laughter seems to be contagious,” said Phillipo, wiping tears from his eyes from all the laughter.

Fluffy liked the fact that Phillipo thought she was funny. She saw a pair of oven mitts on the counter. She decided that she would put those over her ears.

“Fluffy!” laughed Phillipo, even harder. “You are so funny!”

Fluffy realized that her silliness was making people laugh and it was making everyone around her happy and full of laughter. She noticed that when people were laughing they didn’t have time to be mean to each other.

“I have decided that I am going to be silly from now on,” said Fluffy to Phillipo one day. “It is nice how people laugh when I am around and how they seem to get along better.”

“It is nice how you can make people laugh,” said Phillipo. “It makes people forget about their problems and enjoy their life.”

Fluffy continued to do things that were silly. Fluffy found it was lots of fun making people laugh. The world seemed like it was so much better of a place to live in.

“Oh dear!” exclaimed Phillipo when he came into the house, after falling outside and scraping his knee. “I seemed to have hurt myself.”

Fluffy started to laugh at Phillipo and she hurt Phillipo’s feelings. A few weeks later, Fluffy noticed that Phillipo was not giving her the attention that she was getting earlier.

“Why aren’t you laughing at me?” asked Fluffy to Phillipo one afternoon. “Don’t you find me funny any longer?”

“Actually,” said Phillipo, being honest. “It does get a bit stale for you to be silly all the time. You need a balance of being both funny when needed and serious when needed.”

“Well,” said Fluffy. “I guess I need to be serious part of the time and funny the other part of the time.”

“Yes,” said Phillipo. “That would be perfect.”

Over the next few weeks, Fluffy learned when to be serious and when to be funny. She found the perfect balance between the two.

“I am very proud of you,” said Phillipo. “Your balance between silliness and seriousness is perfect.”
