I smoked for over 5 years. I tried to quit many times. Each time I failed to quit because I already had strong addiction to tobacco.
One day I asked myself: Do you really want to quit smoking? My answer was: Yes, I do. After I answered my question positively I came up with a way described below. I wrote it down so it could help someone else just like it helped me.
I realized I must understand the reason I smoke before I can quit. I must find the root of this habit and once I find it, cut it out. This is what my method is based on. I discovered three roots/reasons of my habit and was able to render one of them harmless. Once the root was disabled, my habit ceased to exist.
We all once started smoking for different reasons.
I knew I wanted to quit, but how can I do it?
I tried to quit smoking many times. I made attempts to quit smoking almost every week. I threw packs of cigarettes to trash swearing I would never smoke again, but after a while I ran to get more cigarettes again. I hated this habit yet I smoked one pack every day.
A question came to my mind: Do You Really Want To Quit Smoking?
Yes, I Do! Was my answer.
But how about the pleasure of inhaling smoke? How about smoking breaks when you enjoy your next cigarette while thinking about life situations?
All that is an imaginary pleasure. You inhale tobacco smoke and then cough because of the acrid smoke. I don’t need that.
Are you going to say good-bye to cigarettes? Are you going to throw away the pack of cigarettes that is in your pocket? They are your friends that have been there with you for those long 6 years. This was a very serious question and I realized I had to make a decision to deny smoking. Uncertainty is ahead of me; I have smoked for so long and even now I want to smoke. Won’t it be like before when I quit, but then returned back to smoking again? But I must make this decision and stop smoking. Cigarettes are evil, they undermine my health. I remembered how I smoked and came to understanding that I will never smoke again.
Yes, I really want to quit smoking! With both difficulty and freedom I made my decision.
