Escape

Rita lies face up on the concrete floor in a dark, crowded basement. Her body shudders as if ice trapped her spine. Her legs penciled straight. Rita wakes with a sudden jolt. She slowly rolls her eyes, viewing the unfamiliar surroundings. Black decayed brick walls with dusty old storage and broken furniture occupy the room. Cobwebs cling to each corner of the ceiling. Narrow lights shoot through the basement shining from a single window. Ropes tightly grip onto Rita’s ankles. Her arms are bent and wrapped close to her chest. Her mouth opens, but her nerves keep her silent.

Her voice shakes as she cries out for help, “Somebody, get me out of here?”

Rita anxiously tries to scuffle her body out of the ropes, but the rough battle to get loose weakens her legs. Heavy footsteps from above tremble the ceiling. She looks around for any chance to escape. Rita squirmed. She tensed the muscles in her ankles and then released, but the rope didn’t give. She had no wiggle room at all. The ceiling trembled above her under the weight of someone’s footsteps. Dirt and dust showered over her. She took a deep breath and strained against her bindings. Blood rushed to her face, her heartbeat pounded in her ears. A small whimper escaped her lips. A soft-spoken voice abruptly comes from the dark hallway.

“Where am I?”

Rita stops moving instantly. “Hello, who was that?” Rita turns her body toward the dark hallway. “Is there someone else in here?”

“Yes, help me please!”

“Are you okay?” says Rita.

“No, I… I can’t feel my legs,” she cries. “I can’t see anything.”

“What’s your name?”

“Lisa!” she says

Rita takes a deep breath and steadily answers, “Ok, Lisa, I’m stuck too, but I’ll try my hardest to get us out of here today. I just need you to stay calm, can you do that?”

“Ok, I will.”

A bright reflection from the metal tools cleared Rita’s sight. The edged of each spear points straight up facing the light. She rolls her way towards an old ripped up sofa by the metal tools. She pushes her entire weight up against the couch to pull herself up. The heavy footsteps from above tremble the ceiling, sending dust particles to the ground. Light sweat damps hair on the edge of her forehead. Rita’s heart races as the footsteps become louder. She quickly rolls over.

“I’m scared.” Says Lisa.

Rita whispers, “Lisa, listen to me. I’m afraid too, but for us to get out of here, we’ll have to fight.”

In a shaky voice, Lisa answers, “Ok, I’ll try.”

Lisa pulls herself from the dark hallway; she peeks her head out to the light. Footsteps emerge down the stairs towards the basement door. Rita quickly jumps from the couch and onto the ground. She uses her elbows to drag herself behind the sofa. A deep, loud, raspy voice mumbles through the cracks.

The door suddenly burst open. A tall and muscular hairy man with a white tank top comes pushing his way through the pitch-black hallway. As he comes close to the light, Rita catches a glimpse of his scratched-up face with an eye patch wrapped over his eye. She stares at him for a moment; everything gets silent around her. She is instantly taking back to herself stabbing him in the right eye and brutally scratching him the night before. Rita’s come back to herself and watches him pass through the hallway. He grabs Lisa by her neck and throws her on the cold hard floor. Lisa yells in pain.

“You better keep quiet, or you’re dead.”

Lisa nods her head as tears roll down her face. He turns over to look for Rita and notices she is gone. Behind the sofa lies her shoes next to loosen ropes.

“There you are—I see you tried to get away huh!”

He reaches his arms to push the sofa aside; Rita’s shoes lie there along with the cut-up ropes.

Rita stands behind him pointing the sharp spear to his neck. “Hey buddy, you listen to me, alright!”

He turns around and faces Rita.

“Well, look at you: all grown up and beautiful as ever.”

Rita points the spear up to his left eye. “Let her go now!”

The deep stare into to Rita’s eye trapped him down; with one flinch, she could stab him. But without hesitation, he attempted to tackle her from the floor reaching for her ankles.

Rita’s quickly stabs him in his left eye. He tumbles to the ground fluttering in pain. Rita pulls Lisa from the floor, gives him one last look and hurriedly escapes the basement.

Unable to recall anything from the previous night, Rita grasps a deep breath and fights with brutal aggression. Her frightened pale face quickly turns to a desperate raging, hot red.

A soft-spoken voice abruptly comes from the dark hallway.

A young girl cries, “Where am I?”

Rita stops moving instantly. “Hello, who was that?” Rita turns her body toward the dark hallway. “Is there someone else in here?”

“Yes, help me please!”

He smiles. “Just give me one more shot sweetie, I’ll take care of you both.”

“Ugh, you disgust me!”

Rita’s quickly stabs him in his left eye. He tumbles to the ground fluttering in pain. Rita pulls Lisa from the floor, gives him one last look and hurriedly escapes the basement.

Leaving Sharpstown

I was eighteen years old and decided to go back to a nearby city. Time was on my side and I needed to do whatever meant necessary to get where I was going. If that meant hitching a ride with a stranger, then that would be my only option. Weeks before this, I had done something very dangerous that possibly could have gotten me killed and now I was on a mission to get out of state before the Mafia could catch me. I grabbed my bags, some water bottles, a pepper spray, and a pocket knife. I was headed down Saums Rd. to get near the intersections of 59. I had to handle some important business before leaving town. My focus was on getting the money. I was determined to do what I promised and was fully prepared for what was coming my way.

It was 2 am and the road was clear. I stop and stoop under a street light next to the corner

of the street by the metro bus stop. I waited for the next car to pull up at the red light. About 10 minutes’ past, and I finally saw a black Chevy truck pulling up flashing its car lights at me. The driver came closer to me and rolled down his window. I saw a friendly looking guy probably in his mid-thirties. He kindly asks if I needed a ride.

“I’m going to Sharpstown, its about 45 minutes from here”. I replied.

He nodded raising his eyebrows, “Oh Sharpstown! that’s where I live, come on in I’ll take you there.”

He seemed like a nice, casual guy, so I step in the large truck and kept my things by my side.

“My name is Curtis, what yours”?

I told him my name was Shelby although it wasn’t, I never gave out my real name to strangers. And this time I was incredibly lucky I didn’t. He kept telling me during the ride that I look familiar and I resembled someone he knew. All I could do was fake a smile and change the subject. I didn’t want this guy to know anything about me. He was just doing me a favor by giving me a lift, and nothing more. And there he was, again asking me another question.

“So, why are you heading to Sharptown this time of night?”

I just told him basic lied to get him to shut up. I just wanted to get where I was going and leave already. We were about 15 minutes from Sharpstown and I was getting anxious, time was racing and at any moment I would be facing a dangerous situation that could possibly get me killed.

We finally arrived at Sharpstown; he stops can at a local gas station.

“I live near Bayou St., which part of the town are you going to”?

I found it ironic how he was going to the same street I was headed. Coincidentally, at the time we were both unaware that he was the same guy who tried to kill me when I fled a dangerous scene at a huge mob fight weeks earlier. Curtis was a part of the mafia at the same place I used to work: an underground mafia where I would handle thousands of dollars and help them transfer heavy pounds of drugs to various cities. Then it hit me, when Curtis lifted his sleeves, I notice the mafia Symbol tattooed on his arm. Right then and there I knew exactly who he was and had to think quick and make a move before Curtis noticed. So, when we made a stop at another red light I pulled out my pepper spray and pocket knife. I proceeded to spray and split his face. Although I was too afraid to kill him I knew I had to get rid of him to make it to the storage before he did. Repeatedly kicking him, he fell out the car. I jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off. My next stop was Bayou St.; I was still on my mission to get the money and head out of town before sunrise. When I got to Bayou St. I notice a gun at the back of the car. Using it to break into the mafia storage room, I quickly collected ten thousand dollars and was off to the train station. I never went back there again.

Saving GeMajesty

After a long season, Gemajesty has completed a full Gem year. Raising crystal gems vibrantly lights up the world of Gemajesty, as the strong growing energy awakes the gem creature, to an early raise of a new star, that sets every season. Deep orange breeze travels among the surface as kingdoms sit on light clouds. The new star, Garnet emerges in the world like a rising sun and revolving moon. Minerva, the goddess and mother of Gemajesty, gazes upon the new star as it sets in from her castle. The views from her window blaze up the entire room. The door shuts behind her as gem creatures fly up to the sky for unity of the next Gem star. Isolated in her castle, Minerva traces the patterns on her marble floor as light shines from her medieval windows. A knock from the window startles her. Waves of a glittery brightness cast onto the glossy stone floor, reflecting onto several objects in the room. She blinks a few times, to help her eyes, adjust to the illumination directed right at her exposed figure. A softly spoken voice is heard through the glass, humming a lovely melody to warm the heart of a worried queen. Ameth, who is Minerva trusted friend, floats by her window as her figure reflects through the shiny glass. In a cheery smile, words speak from her breath in a peaceful melody.

“It’s time, new season is here, so exciting!” Ameth says.

“I see,” says Minerva as she opens the window with her palm.

Ameth floats into the hallway meeting Minerva at her level. “Oh, but why the long face?”

“I can’t seem to get my mind together, I’m losing myself.” Minerva looks out the window, shaking her head as she looks down. “I’m no queen.”

“You are a queen; you’re my queen. The world looks up to you,” says Ameth as she glances at Minerva and tugs her hand. Minerva pulls away from Morgan and grips her head as she faintly wobbles around in the hallway. Ameth catches her before falling over and landing on her back. Minerva breaks away from Ameth’s arms and flies out the window.

“Minerva wait!” Ameth says as she follows her flying out the window.

Minerva super speeds away from Morgan and disappears through the thick clouds. Ameth floats in the air using her super visions to see through the empty clouds. The clouds are filled with nothing but air with Minerva nowhere in sight.

Minerva lands on the floor of a balcony. Standing on the edge of the wall, she tests inner power forces with her hands and aim towards the sky. Crystal minerals rapidly flash precious emerald colors reflecting the Garnet star from above. Minerva extends her arms out and faces her palm to the sky. Black particles of leak radiation in photon coming from outer space attach to her hands. Radiation of black photons send signals from light years away. Pulling her arms back, she clutches and balls her fist like catching a flying object. The black particles flew in like tiny magical minerals that glow. Her hands tremble and burst open, a stray of black radiation photons shoot out like fierce lightening. Losing control and swaying out of balance, she nearly trips out of the crystal stone balcony. Ruby, the king gem of GeMajesty, swings out his shielding power. He grabs Minerva from behind and extract her hands from the shooting photons. They both fall onto the ground. He continues to hold her still until it disappears. Minerva escapes from Ruby’s power shield flying straight up to the sky stretching her arms out once again. The shields evaporate leaving heavy dark smoke in the air above them. After an unsuccessful attempt to attract the photons, she returns to the balcony.

“What was that all about?” asks Ruby.

“I am still trying to figure it out. Thanks for ruining my plan once again!”

“But you could have fallen and injured yourself, Queen.”

“I know what I am doing. I don’t need you for gem-support!”

“Well, of course, you do! This is the fifth time I’ve had to save you this season!” said Ruby.

“I need to be alone just stay away. Everyone seems to be distracting my focus.” Minerva shoves ruby as she walks pass him.

Walking towards the door, Minerva loses her balance and faintly leans against the glass balcony walls. A slight tremor in her bones weakens her. Ruby bows forward to her as he catches her sparkling gold eyes from below.

“Just tell me what’s going on here,” says Ruby.

The sky forms a foaming dim orange red blend from the Garnet release. Minerva turns away.

“I’m still trying to figure out.”

Ameth arrives from in the castle. Her hands glow a dark violet color representing danger close by.

“Minerva, Minerva!” says Ameth as she sprints into the room with her purple crystal locks.

“The black holes are emerging into the world soon.”

“Black holes?” Said Ruby

Minerva rushes towards Ameth reaching her to the door.

“Ameth, what are the signs?”

Ameth presses her chest speaking in her weary shaken voice.

“The flying particles, they’re everywhere. When I close my eyes, I see them shooting out from massive black holes. We must hurry and evacuate, or the gems……. or will get attacked and sucked in.”

“Okay, Ameth how severe is this, I must know before we tell the rest of the leaders.”

“Oh, it’s bad Minerva, it’s dreadful.”

“So, this was what you were looking for?” Said Ruby.

Minerva closes her eye’s pressing her palms against Ameth’s head, they escape into a vivid vision.

A beaming blast of striking light zaps the Kingdom causing a corrupts within the land. Tall, giant terrestrial’s creature, the size of giraffes appears from the skies. They submerge in using their futuristic weapons, some flying out from the black holes at full speed. Their shapes resemble an odd robot figure with skinny limps and long shape heads. A ball of fire burst in mid sky causing the Garnet star to explode. Smoke collisions fill the air as the terrestrials from outer space accumulates the energy from the gem creature and their gem stones. The attack weakens the gem-creatures of the world.

Minerva’s eyes pop open wide, she drops down on the floor. Ruby and Ameth both assist her to the bed.

Minerva catches ruby’s sparking red eye’s. and opens her mouth to speak.

“Prepare for war.”
