Cindy’s Christmas Gift

By Anita Hasch and Heidi Nel

Cindy was a lively little girl of ten years old. She had lovely shining black hair and even though she was only ten years old, she had a passion for dancing. She wanted to dance and dance and dance some more. She was ten months old when she took her first careful steps, and learned to walk, and when she turned two years old, she learned to dance. Oh, the wonderful joy it brought her.

Her mother soon came to realize that her daughter was a born dancer, and that it was her special gift that she could share with the whole world. She encouraged her daughter to dance, but she was also strict with her daughter. When Cindy was old enough to go to school, she always had to do her homework first, right after she got home from school. Homework took quite a while, and after it was done, Cindy spent the rest of the afternoon practicing her dancing. She practiced with such dedication and discipline. She loved to dance. Whenever she danced, she felt a sense of freedom. She had a sister, Jenny who was one year older than her, and a brother Jonathan, who was three years younger.

At the age of seven, Cindy’s parents thought that she was ready to perform on stage. She was going to dance with her sister who looked just like her. Her mother made two identical yellow dresses for them to wear. At first, the mere thought of performing in front of an audience made the two sisters feel nervous. So they practiced harder to perfect their dancing. With their first performance on stage, they forgot about their audience. They knew in their hearts that if they did their best, everything would be fine.

Soon, they let go of their nervousness, because they were enjoying themselves so much. and they danced with such marvelous grace. They enchanted their audience, and at the end of the dance, when they bowed humbly to them, they received a standing ovation. It was one of the best moments of their lives. Joy nestled in their hearts, and they smiled radiantly.

After their first performance on stage, many more performances followed, and soon, Cindy and Jenny were dancing everywhere in the United States. The two sisters usually wore identical dresses. They looked so cute, and they enjoyed their dancing such a whole lot.

Cindy and Jenny loved the lovely dresses their mother made for their shows. In one of the shows they danced with a friend. The girls felt like princesses in the lovely dresses, and when they danced, they felt such great joy in their hearts. It was simply wonderful.

Dancing made their spirit soar, and it brought them such delight. With their gift of dancing, they touched people’s hearts

in such a special way. Everybody loved the two sisters, and the two sisters kept on dreaming of dancing on stages all over the world. That’s what they wanted to do most of all. They knew that they had a special talent for dancing, and they felt grateful that they could use their talent to enchant people and to make people smile with happiness.

Snow White Christmas Pantomime

By Anita Hasch and Heidi Nel

Angela Richards was having so much fun while ice skating on the frozen lake. Her brother Julian was with her, as well as their neighbour’s two children Leon and Gina Bennett. It was chilly outside, but the lively children were so busy enjoying themselves, that they hardly felt the cold. They were dressed warmly, and they skated on the frozen lake with so much eagerness, and so much energy. Ice skating on the frozen lake had become their favorite hobby. It felt great. They were on holiday for a glorious couple of weeks, and then it was back to school for them. Angela put all thoughts of school firmly from her mind. She just knew that she was going to enjoy her holiday. She and her brother wanted to skate on the frozen lake as often as possible, because it was just so exciting.

“Come on Julian, let’s go to the lake. Leon and Gina have already left.”

Angela and Julian join their friends on the lake.

There were other children on the lake as well. It was a huge lake, and it was one of many. All the children were having a very good time. Everyone was smiling happily, and there were cheerful laughter everywhere. Everyone felt light hearted. Angela experienced such a wonderful sense of freedom while skating on the frozen lake. It felt absolutely wonderful. As she skated, she felt extra excited, because their parents had promised to take them to the Christmas Pantomime of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Leon and Gina had gotten permission from their parents to go with them. They lived in a small village, so the drive into the City took quite a while, so they were going to have to leave quite early if they wanted to get to the Christmas Pantomime on time. Angela could hardly wait. She loved the moving story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and just knowing that she was going to see the Christmas Pantomime soon, filled her with such great joy. It was an annual event, and it was very special.

When Angela and Julian got home after their adventurous ice skating, they took their Labrador dog, Chico for a long walk. That was fun too. It was a different kind of fun, and they, as well as Chico had a very pleasurable time. Afterwards Chico licked them on their hands to show them both how much he appreciated the walk, and how much he loved them. Julian and Angela laughed happily, and patted their dog on his neck.

When Angela and Gina entered their house through the front door, it was time to get ready for the Pantomime. They painted each other’s nails in a light pink color, and their mother even allowed them to wear some of her light pink lipstick for the happy occasion. the two sisters felt very pretty indeed.

When they were finally ready, they met up again with Leon and Gina who were waiting for them outside in the garden. They all climbed into the vehicle, and they were all eagerly looking forward to the drive into the City.

When they got to the ice skating rink, they felt so excited. Angela and Gina, Leon and Julian all sat down in their seats, and each of them had a soda and some popcorn which Angela and Julian’s father had bought. He also bought a whole lot of chocolate which was Angela’s absolute favorite. As she sat there with stars in her blue eyes, she looked around her and saw that there were quite a lot of people who had come to see the Christmas Pantomime, which was to be performed on ice skates in the ice skating rink.

The seven dwarfs make their appearance before the start of the show.

Then suddenly the bright spotlights came on, and the Pantomime started, and Angela, as well as everyone else watched in awe as the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs unfolded beautifully on ice. Oh, it was spectacular and totally breathtaking. Angela knew that the performer who acted out the character of Snow White was so fortunate. To be lucky enough to be chosen to act out the character of Snow White…now that was a perfect example of what dreams were made of. As Angela watched, her love for Snow White deepened.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the story of a Prince’s daughter who lived in a castle and who grew up happy. Her jealous stepmother tried to kill her after her magic mirror told her that Snow White was the loveliest in the land. Her plan to kill Snow White failed, so she crossed the swamp at the edge of the trees, and went straight to the cottage of the seven dwarfs where Snow White was staying. She gave her a poisoned apple to eat, and when Snow White took a bite out of the apple, she fainted and became lifeless. Her cruel and nasty stepmother ran back across the dreadful swamp, tripped, and fell into the terrifying quicksand. She disappeared without a trace, because there wasn’t anybody to help her, so she didn’t stand a chance. She died all alone.

The seven dwarfs found Snow White’s lifeless body when they came back from work. They all wept for her, and froze her lifeless body. One day a handsome Prince came by, and admired Snow White’s frozen face. He listened carefully when the seven dwarfs told him what had happened to Snow White. Then he kissed Snow White, and his kiss broke the spell. Snow White magically came back to life. When the Prince asked her to marry him, Snow White agreed. She married the Prince, and they went and lived happily in a great

castle. Snow White didn’t forget about the dwarfs. She visited them in their cottage in the forest on a regular basis…

As Angela sat watching the Pantomime, she knew that her favorite part was when the handsome Prince kissed Snow White, and his kiss broke the awful spell, causing Snow White to come back to life magically. It was just so amazing. In her heart Angela felt glad that she was not at all like Snow White’s wicked stepmother. She would much rather try to be more like Snow White, because Snow White was just so beautiful and sweet and wonderful, and she didn’t have any wickedness in her, and that was exactly why Angela loved her so much. Snow White was most definitely her most favorite character of all times, and maybe one day she would be lucky enough to get a chance to perform the character of Snow White on ice skates. It would be like a dream come true. Watching the Christmas Pantomime with her parents, her brother and her friends felt so wonderful and truly special and she would always remember it. It was one of the most wonderful moments of her life.
