When I talk with others about the last days, some say, “It’s all too confusing.”
My goal in this little book is to break down the last days into the lowest common denominator as taught by Jesus in Matthew 24 and 25.
When Jesus taught about the last days, He didn’t go into long details about what was coming. Jesus’ teaching on the ordering and events of the last days was explained in only 28 verses (Matthew 24:4-31). When we look at prophecy from these verses alone, we have our road map for understanding the order of the last day events, where we are on the prophetic timeline, and how close we are to the appearing of the Antichrist, the return of Christ, and the rapture—all wrapped up in 28 short verses.
Jesus’ teaching was not hard for anyone to understand, even though it was brand new to His hearers. He pointed to events that were already part of everyday life (wars, rumors of wars, diseases, earthquakes, famines, etc.). He told His hearers that these events would increase in frequency and intensity until they became every day, frightful events. What He taught didn’t require higher education or special insight in order to understand—only the power of observation to distinguish between a few events and many events.
When Jesus taught about the last days, His goal was to give understanding, not to lay down the groundwork of developing elaborate theories about what we think might happen.
Once we understand Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 24, we will have the necessary outline to insert all prophetic events into their proper time period. Matthew’s timeline of events is also the ordering of events outlined in the books of Daniel and Revelation.
These events let us know how close we are to the appearing of the Antichrist, the return of Christ, the rapture, and the end of the world. As we move closer to the world’s end, these events will become more frequent and intense until they are almost unbearable.
Understanding the last days and how close we are to the world’s end was never meant to be complicated or a mystery. Jesus taught so that everyone—young and old, highly educated and the illiterate—would know how close we are to His return. All that is necessary is to observe how the events He spoke of were becoming more intense, more frequent, and more in number. The frequency, intensity, and quantity of these events let us know where we are on the prophetic timeline.
The gospels of Mark and Luke also record this same teaching with some added details, which will be added throughout this study.
Let’s now look at the short version of the last days given by Jesus in Matthew 24.

The last days do not have to be complicated or confusing. Jesus taught about the events that characterize the last days in 28 verses. When we follow the timeline He gave in Matthew 24, understanding the last days and where we are on the prophetic timeline is as simple as understanding the difference between one and many. When we look at prophecy from these verses alone, we have our road map for understanding the ordering of last day events. We can understand where we are on the prophetic timeline, and how close we are to the appearing of the Antichrist, the return of Christ, and the rapture.
