Two Hearts Break

Copyright 4-27-2017

Steve Lake

In age our cycle reverses

From strong mind to weak we grow

A thousand reasons why

But still today they don’t know

It starts slowly

Sneaking up to surprise

Starting with forgetting a name

Stealing your memories like a game

Robbing you of the precious

Memories that help you survive

By the time you realize you have it

No longer do you remember why

You still live and breathe

Eating and sleeping like nature meant it to be

Nature doesn’t change because of lost memories

Just because your heart beckons why

The child you raised from helpless

Growing strong in body and mind

Offsetting your age by 30 years

A grand plan God has supplied

Your heart breaks upon your destiny

Knowing helpless you will become before you die

You will become dependent upon another

Another to help you survive

Slowly each day another heart breaks

You don’t remember their name though your name sake

They are becoming a stranger

Now two heart breaking from lost memories the danger

One memory weak

One memory strong

The disease just drags out

Though you beckon heaven that this is wrong

I see only one silver lining

From the storms dark cloud

Your memory of the past now forgotten

Not just who but how

Your parent won’t remember

No difference between good and bad

No longer will they be plagued

What in their past life that made them sad

A broken heart now passed

A broken heart on the mend

Time will heal all of your wounds

Before you forget your end
