In my youth
No excuses made
If you had difference
You would turn it about into an advantage that pays
My mind would travel
Six directions at a time
Other people would say focus
I would laugh and cry
It took a while to conquer
A weakness turned into strength
When others could only do one job at a time
I laughed thinking they were weak
Yes school was a problem
They couldn’t catch up to my mind
They would scream focus
I would scream why?
In age I entered the work force
Here is where my advantage would pay
What they thought was a productive employee
I would show them a new way
I advanced through the levels
My one year to their five
Then I got a manager
He knew I suffered inside
One day he laid upon me a list
Six task but short of time
I smiled when my mind ingested
Saying I will be back in a dime
Upon the completion of these tasks
I returned to no surprise
He was drawing a rose, talking on the phone and rearranging his desk
You may ask why?
Those alike gather
Within themselves in others they recognize
He also was A.D.D.
He knew my mind was spry
He was older and wiser
Already walking a mile in my shoes
Giving me one task would cause my mind to stray
It always did better with two
He taught me a lot in silence
Never did he judge
He just gave me list with multiple tasks
It was the challenge that I loved
So upon a day full of task
I added one more to the list
I stopped by his office
I just asked him what gives
He explained that others around him
Could only focus on one task
So he needed me more
Because I could multi task so fast
A lifetime friendship was made that day
But we don’t often talk
Neither one of us can focus
In two directions we are off
In age of five decades now past
My body slows but my mind is still fast
I reflect upon my younger days
Those that preached to me to focus
My pants are drawn so they can kiss my ass
I am sure at the last moment of my last breath
Just before my body takes its final rest
My mind to settle its final task
No not to focus
But to do one more
Multi task my memories
My actions
My sins
My deeds
My short comings
My family
My values
My differences
My choices
My beliefs
My morals
And my love of God
And to finally let my mind rest
Oh yeah
To re-check my funeral arrangements
My music
My pictures
My chapel seating
My flowers
My after party food and drink
And to rest in peace at last
