Misunderstood Rain Dance

From a distance

Purely by consequence

Others correlate by their sight

A man that danced

Happening more often than not

Upon arid plains

Those that wish for rain

Grasping blindly at hope sustained

The rumor started eons ago

Within an Indian moon

One with magic powers

Dancing so rain would fall soon

Then across the plains

In a distance a man chanting for rain

Hopping around on one foot left then right

Others that had seen him said it was a sight

Each with the end result

Rain by the buckets fulfilling hope

When all was seen from a distance

The true story

The only story

Was a misunderstood rain dance

The Indian resided high upon mountain clouds

Seen from a distance screaming out loud

The truth was an ant pile that he had riled

Biting relentlessly

Leaving him to dance so wild

Among the plains white men settled

In rustic tents and food simmering in kettles

Crops failing and cows showing their bones

At a distance on a hill begins a show

A single man yelling in dance

Barely clothed not wearing any pants

The truth is a snake keeping warm at night

Causing a dance mostly from fright

We believe sometimes from blind faith

No question asked when seen with eyes so straight

Never do we question a rain dance with results

But when it didn’t rain

Trickery and deception got our goat

In truth a misunderstood rain dance

A reputation out of consequence

Dancing never brought us rain

But dancing did relieve us from our arid pains
