It’s Easy

It’s Easy to Write an Ebook. You can do it yourself!

What Do You Need To Have In Order to Begin?

You need three things stored in your computer before you begin publishing. They are:

1. Information at the top of the book that describes the book. I call this Front Matter.

2. The text of your book. You write this. This is what you want to say.

3. A picture that is to be used as the front cover. This needs the title of your book and your name.

What Do You Need to Know?

You need to know a modest amount of how to use a personal computer. You don’t need to be a computer guru. Here is what I feel you should know.

1. What a JPEG file is.

2. How to open a web site.

3. What is meant by cropping.

4. How to store pictures and files in your computer for easy retrieval.

Let’s Begin

If you don’t know the meanings of these term, talk to someone who knows a little more about computers than you do. That person does not need to be a computer guru either so long as the person uses computers a lot and knows the basic.

Do you feel you’re ready to begin? Yes, then here is the way can create your own Ebook. This will a simple book. At this time don’t plan on tabbing, putting pictures in your book, putting charts and graphs in your book, etc. Remember, this is to be a simple book. The things I’m asking you not to use can be done, but let’s go simple first. Getting the first book done is a major step in learning how to do Ebooks. You can learn how to do the other things later when you need to know.

You’ll need to write text using Microsoft Word. This text can use letters, numbers, bolding, italicizing, and centering. Don’t try anything else now. If you stick with what I’m saying in this paragraph, you should be OK.

Write Your Text

Now write your text. Say what you want to say. Use my HELM filter. That is ask yourself, Is what I want to say healthful? Is it ethical? Is it legal? Is it moral? The first amendment does not protect you about all you might want to say! Be sure what you want to say is originated by you. There are penalties for plagiarism.

Write, at least three pages of material. I think even one page will work for an Ebook, but I’m three does. I’ve done Ebooks with only three pages.

Save your file. Save it in a place where you’ll be able to find it. Your publisher will ask for this file.

The Front matter.

Put the Front Matter at the front of your text. This tells what the title of your book is and who you are. It will also tell who your publisher is. The publisher I recommend for this beginning book is www.Shakespir.com.

Following is the front matter I use for all my books. You can use this as a model for the first book you do.

Whenever I do another Ebook, I use this same front matter with the only change being the title of the book. Look me up in Shakespir. I’ve done many Ebooks and I can do one a day if I want to This book was started at 9:00 a.m. on April 13, 2016. Whatever I’m doing in this book, you can do because it’s all simple stuff!

The Cover

Your cover needs to be a picture that has a larger height than width. You can take your own picture or you can use a free picture from the Internet. Make sure the picture is truly free. You can get into trouble by using a copyrighted picture. One place where you can find free pictures is www.pixabay.com. Search for a picture that suits what you want to say. The picture I’m using for this book is from this web site.

Crop the picture if you have to. Remember is has to be higher than it is wide. Use your photograph processor to type the name of the of your book on the picture and your name. Make sure the words on the cover match the name of your book and your name. Shakespir will not complain if they are different.

There are many good photo processors that allow typing on your picture. Photoshop is one. If you don’t have Photoshop, download a package from GIMP. This is free. Use the web site www.gimp.org. for this purpose.

Store the picture in your computer in a folder where you’ll find it easily when you want it. Shakespir will ask for it.

Now Publish

To publish open www.Shakespir.com. (You may need to enroll. If so, do so; it’s free).

At the very top, you’ll see the word, Publish in a blue bar. Click on this word.

Shakespir will ask what is the Title of your book. Type it in and scroll forward.

Shakespir will ask for a long description of your book. Tell what your book is about. I use about half a dozen lines to do this.

Shakespir will ask for a short description. Tell a little about your book is 400 characters or less.

Shakespir will ask for the language of your book. English may already be filled in.

Shakespir will want to know what you want to charge for your book. The least you an ask in money is ninety-nine cents. You can also make yours free. I suggest you make your first one free. You’ll get more takers this way.

Shakespir will ask in what category you wish to place your book and give you achoices. Choose a category.

Shakespir will ask if what subcategory you wish to place your book and give you choics. Choos a subcategory.

Shakespir will want you to supply tags. These are words and/or phrases your readers may search for when they want to read a book like yours. Provide as many as you wish hitting the Enter Key after each one. Don’t use a comma in a tag word or phrase. This will act like a the Enter Key.

Shakespir will want the name of your cover. Provide this information.

Shakespir will want the name of your text file. Provide this information.

Shakespir will ask you to agree to terms. Do so.

Click on Publish.

Wait

Now wait to see what happens. Shakespir will do some processing. If it finds mistakes you’ve made or something you’ve left out, it will tell you. If you understand any error message you may get, fix the problem. If you get an error message you don’t understand, please contact me at the e-mail address above. I don’t promise anything but may be able to assist.

More Coming. Check again in a few minutes. It’s 11:10 a.m. 0413/16.
