[A Growing Darkness
**]

[The Power Of The Creep
**]

The bigot, the rapist, the common terrorist -

They all shame us with their undeniable humanity;

Reluctance to scorn the stupid, and bring them down,

Has wrought on the mild the scourges of the ages.

How do we hold back the hateful, while we send soldiers out

To kill the murderers?

How do we contain our leaders’ ambitions

To control all they survey?

How do we escape this darkness?

Desperation finds a way -

It is the mother of invention;

The earth quakes and we sway -

It is too late to prevent the past.

So, we know, there will be a tomorrow;

And, we feel, hope will spring once again;

But nightmares in Paris

Have brought this to a head:

We will not stop now,

Until the last murderer is dead.

[Misjudged
**]

A paper tiger, we have been called by the infamous one;

Did he still think so, as he died?

Our tolerance, our patient search for the more peaceful way,

Has come to an abrupt stop.

I can only plead, I can only pray,

For the honourable amongst us

Who look to Mecca -

That we send only the soldiers,

And keep the Tiger bound up in his cage.

The End

About Rori O’Keeffe

Rori was born in Cork, Ireland in 1975 and emigrated to Canada with her parents as a young child. She now resides in her cottage outside Perth, Ontario with her menagerie of cats and goldfish.

Emphasizing aggressive substance over style in her writing, Rori likes to think of herself as a “heavy-metal” poet: Her poetry and prose strive to be both sublime and engaging, and a little shocking at times, too.

Her point of view is laid bare for the reader, challenging people to consider things about life and the world that perhaps they have dismissed out of hand previously. She wants to spark contemplation in her readers rather than merely soothe the reader’s conscience and ego with what she refers to as “the obsequious manner of modern media.”

“Democracy doesn’t thrive by pandering to the public’s vanity, but by offering new, controversial and adaptive ideas,” she says. Whether you agree with her ideas or not, there is no denying that her work is memorable – and that is what she wants it to be, most of all.

A Growing Darkness

Friday the thirteenth earned its grisly reputation this November in France. As some leaders such as our own Justin Trudeau haven't woken up to the never-ending nature of this terrorist threat, others are starting to get real. Two poems, a paltry 200 words or so, is all I take to sum up my resolve to see these murderers destroyed, and, at the same time, to spare the innocent. A Tiger has awoken in the western world, I am certain, and let us hope it our soldiers that we send, and not the Tiger.
